Finally, a video that does more than show one converter. Searching for videos of recommendations gave me the worst results. I had to sort by "recent" to find yours. Hopefully you can get more eyes on this one as it's the best comparison I've found.
Glad I could help, and appreciate your comment
As others have stated the Electron Sheppard adapter is not here, at least with that device the electronic component build quality is consistent unlike the chinese variants which can change the innards from time to time factory to factory. It's pot luck what you get.
@rightspritegaming bite the bullet get the Electron Sheppard as that is the gold standard currently or show us to be wrong.
Just got my Autoutlet HDMI adapter after using a Wii2HDMI for years. Definitely worth the upgrade as the colours are a lot more vibrant.
Great to hear!
I am thinking of doing the same. He should be on commission.
This is a lifesaver!!! I can barely find a lot of options rather than the cheap alternatives luckily the last one you reviewed was available to buy in my country. The autoutlet, It was a bit pricey but worth it!
Just for anyone interested, if you have a modded Wii with Priiloader, you can turn off deflicker for the entire console and not just USB Loader GX. This will work for disc based games, the system meni, and everything else! It's definitely worth it.
The priiloader toggle doesn't affect the games, unless something changed recently
@@Brodensson It does, it's for everything on the entire Wii. It removes the deflicker on the console, the option would be useless if it didn't work on games lol.
@@NottJoeyOfficial Unfortunately not. Check closed issue 332 on the official page for Priiloader. DacoTaco (the developer) responded and said, and I quote: "this is normal, the hack priiloader applies is only applied to system menu. priiloader can not patch any other content". So yes, the hack is basically useless.
@@NottJoeyOfficial Nope, it doesn't. It only works for the system menu and _ABSOLUTELY NOTHING_ else.
@@BrodenssonNot useless if it makes the menu look sharper
You should try Electron Shepherds adapter. It’s supposed to be the best of the bunch
I have a Portholic one. It's pretty decent, although some games have a little audio crackle. Interestingly enough, the casing has 480p written on it, not 1080p.
I’ve tested 5 Wii adapters and the best one for me has been electron shepherd. The only problem is there was an issue where some of the units had an over exposed image, but luckily mine came fine and I think they’ve since fixed the issue. Kacio would be my second choice, but the image is pretty dark, so you need to mess with tv settings. Third would be mayflash it’s just a pretty normal adapter. My setup at the moment is electron shepherd to mayflash then I daisy chain that to a photofast 4k gamer pro. The photofast does boost the image quality a bit making it sharper and more vibrant, but for almost 200 bucks it was definitely not worth it lol.
Wow $200, your keen.
Did any of them go black screen on you? I'm having issues where the screen will go black periodically, but I can still hear the audio. I'm not sure if I should be a different adapter yet again, or just buy a refurbished Wii console.
Just found my old wii and was looking for an hdmi adapter and found your channel great video and channel and great information
Thank you happy to help
Thank you for this super informative video
I have a Bitfunx for the GameCube and it's safe to say that the image quality is unbelievable good. I need one adapter for my Wii, but even watching this video I can't decide.
Need this for Original Xbox and PS2 next! This has been super informative!
I just got the Level Hike cable for PS1 and PS2, would thoroughly recommend.
I have a wiidual installed and use an mclassic as well. It looks really good
Personally I think the best Wii image you can get is via a Wii + Component + VGA adapter onto a VGA CRT. Much cheaper than a PVM while offering similar if not slightly superior video quality. They are so sharp at 480p. With a good component to HDMI adapter, not scaler, I think these are fine too. My personal setup is a Wii on a SD CRT with component which looks fantastic. Of course Retrotink 5X exists but that's out of the price range for most people
That is another great option , thanks for the information l, one method I personally have not used
Really informative video thanks for sharing.
From the video, i like the brighter Portholic, and its good price to performance too. It's only a shame it doesn't have an affiliate link 😉
Little addition: the first generation Xbox 360's (November 2005 - August 2007) did *not* have HDMI output.
The first Xbox 360's *with* HDMI output were the "Xbox 360 Elite"''s (May 2007) with the new "Zephyr" motherboard revision.
Very true, at least a 360 release came with a hdmi port.
I know theres cord adapters to convert to usb, is there a hdmi one?
What an amazing video, we need one for the ps2 DESPERATELY
i got the Hyperkin HD Cable for Wii, it has been good for me. would be interesting to see you compare it to these
The issue with using the tv to stretch the picture to fill, is that it usually adds a TON of lag because how slow its processing
Im green with envy of that jungle green wii shell.... I wish aliexpress still had those instead of only red and blue
What's the input lag with all these adapters? Will you notice any annoying input lag when playing games?
Hello, this morning I ordered the first adapter because I live in Portugal and it was the only one I could find. I ordered through Fnac and now I have to wait between 3-4 weeks, the reason I ordered the adapter is because I'm trying to record some PS1/2 Gameplays with good quality and right now I'm using the elgato video capture and it only records in 480p.
Be interesting to see a PCB level tear down between these
Thank you for the video my friend, I have a question, to obtain an image quality like 0:11 do you need the AUTOUTLET Wii to HDMI Converter + the upscaler?
A great video. First a Brit so we can see how this applies for PAL users AND for people who just want a decent picture but aren't obsessed with getting the most perfect picture (for cost or other reasons).
Great video, thanks!
Thanks appreciate your comment
Hi! Very good video it helped a lot! Btw, what are you using to store your games on a Wii? A usb drive or a sd card? What do you recommend?
I brought cheap wii to hdmi works great.
I have a Wii2HDMI, and it has very little input delay, especially when playing Monster Hunter Tri, it plays as if it's through component cables, the only thing I've noticed is the image is a bit saturated, but other than that it's fine! That official Wii component cable, reminds me of the chunky cable i have for more playstation, which outputs to scart, which was a bit expensive at the time, but definitely worth it for the older console!
Have had WII to HDMI for years & Idk which one it is. But with a TV upscaler built in its huge difference.
It looks better than when playing Wii games on the Wii U, which upscales them to 720 the TV says.
So the adapters don’t always upscale, but they give you an HDMI option.
But I was so happy when I first got an HDMI Wii adapter its a night and day difference.
The text, graphics, clarity are not 480 thats fer sure.
I cant speak on these adapters.
Can you make a tutorial on how to use the mclasic on the autolet adapter? I don’t really know how the mclasic works so far
After several tests for me the best one has been the Hyperkin Cable HD for the Wii. It would have been nice to have included it in the comparison with the ones on this video
What are your thoughts on the Mayflash and Electron Warp adaptors? They seem highly rated too.
I'll be honest, by the time I purchased a Wii again(I had one before with a failing disc drive), I already had a Retrotink 5X Pro. I ended up using HD Retrovision Component Cables plugged into the Retrotink, and it's easily the best video quality I can achieve natively on the Wii.
Would the internal hdmi mod be better?
On Amazon there's the autolet that you recommended, but also one without the extra tail. Do you think there's a difference in quality between them/ which is better?
I recently got the Portholic adapter for a friend and it worked pretty much as described in this video (even through an HDMI switcher). It definitely is more than good enough for my friend who is a casual gamer.
I will note that, while these adapters work well enough, they are the “quick and dirty” way to get your Wii running on modern displays. The BEST way is to use good quality, preferably shielded component cables (HD Retrovision, etc.) or RGB SCART cable (Retro Gaming Cables, etc.) and a scaler like the GBS-C, OSSC, or RetroTink 5X. Those three scalers are price order from lowest to highest.
I have a GBS-C from AliExpress with the blue case and it is fantastic on my 4K TV. Does it make GameCube and Wii look as clean as emulation does? No. But it upscales to 1080p and looks so much better than any HDMI adapter.
The HDMI mod is also a great option, again if you’re willing to shell out the money or if you have moderate to extensive soldering expertise.
A third option is to get a Wii U. It’s not the best quality for playing Wii games but it’ll get the job done and you’ll have native HDMI without any sketchy adapters or expensive mods.
the wii doesn't support 480p over rgb scart & the wii u vwii hdmi is worse than wii component
Retrotink 5x pro. And you need to disable the filters via custom rom.
Hi. congratulations for the video. I bought autlel HDMI converter and I had with common white adapter any artifacts in any letters and images with my mcable gaming, I haven't mclassic adapter. Do you have any artifacts?
Thanks
Your are so unrated ❤❤
Amazing video, I'm using right now component (was lucky enough to get OEM from Ebay) and same converter, if i found your video before i wasn't buying this bad Wii2HDMI adapters which were giving this write lines, i firstly thought my wii had a problem with video signal, but no, it was just bad hdmi
Great video, thanks for sharing! Really detailed and well thought out! Looking forward to getting one of my own :), I’m still deciding as to which one.. By the way, what games are you playing on 12:49 and 14:08?
That's why i love my wii u
Ótimo comparativo.
I have the firsr genaric wii2hdmi adapter you showed and a old crappy 720p tv and it does actually output 1080p bc the tv says “the signal is too high resolution” but when i use the component cables and 480p it works fine. I wanted to point this out bc you said it does not output 1080p
cool video but somehow I do prefer the component-5 setup. I got a 2018 50" Hisense TV and it supports component which is awesome. The clerk at the game store I got my Wii from recommended me a component cable with gold plated connectors and honestly I believe that it gets me the best possible image, never trusted these HDMI converters too much.
How do you get the sound on the tv with those adapters?
Why did you skip the mayflash? Everyone says it’s the best one :(
I'm using a component cable. But 1 made by Monster cables. Highest quality I've ever had for the Wii. But its hard to find
When you dont have the scanlines probably you will get extra input lag cos some chip has to clear those lines
This video is great. I recently got a new smart TV that has video and component inputs. I tried the Wii, and the video quality was not too great. I've used the Xbox 360 in video and the quality was pretty good. The Wii menu on the Wii U looked great. My Wii's quality is stuck on 480i, and I can't select 480p. I was hoping that an HDMI adapter would make it selectable somehow. I wouldn't mind using Autoutlet if it's available on American Amazon or eBay.
Right sprite does ship to the US
Appreciate the great comments aswell , all the best
I bought a portta component to hdmi converter and it has a lot of noise interference. Definitely gonna give the autoutlet converter a try.
they recently swapped out the components for cheaper parts it really sucks
@@sunspot5which got cheaper components? The port or autoutlet?
@@4selcuk portta
Yes porta sucks , i bought it and returned then bought a generic one and works great!
What Capture Card Do You Use? And Any Special Adapters I need for It?
I have the Portholic and the video noise you are getting is a QC problem. If you contact them within the first 30 days they will swap it out but you pay shipping yours to them. I bought mine from Amazon and did their return method. The current Autoutlet model being sold here in the States from Amazon is a rebranded Portholic unit.
Thanks for that great info , what is QC plz ?
@@rightspritegaming Quality control, I believe.
Is better using the adapter or the wii u?
funny how the wii creates a digital image, converts it to an analog signal, just for us to convert it back into digital.
does anyone know if any of these will run on a wii mini thats running homebrew and gx loader?
My go to for Wii has recently been using a Wii U, since that sends out 1080 through the HDMI cable in Wii mode.
But no GameCube support. That's a sad thing. Maybe it's worth buying a Wii U for the older Wii games!
@@cjeelde homebrew
meanwhile me on a Wii U still watching this for no reason
7:04 i have the same popping noise from my crt tv playing mario kart double dash
If I’m in the U.S., & I buy the Autolet from you, will it work with my American Wii? & is there nowhere else I can buy it cheaper in USD so I don’t have to convert that to Pounds & pay extra for shipping from the UK?
The best tv to use with the wii is the rca true flat tv (big back) tv from 2001... amazing picture
That would be great,
hello and thank you for your video!
I'm French and I bought the Wii 2 HDMI White Sheap, but haven't yet unboxed it since the beginning of 2022, because I very rarely play!
I would like to know if you made a video on the xbox classic, "the 1st xbox", or the PLAYSTATION 2 please?
Because of you, I bought the AUTOUTLET model this morning because the results are clear!
Thanks a lot.
Merci ray, appreciate the support, I have created one for the PS2 here is a link ruclips.net/video/CZ2GWKXxHCY/видео.html
I am in the process of making a Xbox one 😁
If y'all really want too play a Wii In HD I suggest a saving up for a Wii U or use the may flash on dolphin emulator
💯⚡👊
Why not use a Rad2x or Retrotink 2x with a Scart RGB cable? best image quality
Now what is the best one
ok, so i went throught several different rcs to hdmi converters, specifically for my sega genesis, i keep getting this issue where the audio will play, but nothing will show up on screen, and when display does show on screen, it's a washed out looking color and the actual gameplay looks yellow, sometimes the it will also flicker when it's trying to show display, but nothing comes up still, i even used levelhike (which is the most recommended brand I've seen) i even used the cheap ones, i used kaico, i used some other brands and kept having to send them back due to the display not showing up on my sony smart tv, my tv is a sony 185k Bravia smart tv, do you know a solution to the problem and what the cause may be?
I used a wii2hdmi adapter and put it to 4:3 and it looks amazing. The reason why it does it because the Wii outputs 640x480 and not 720x480. So with a unmodified console it just takes the 640x480 and stretches it across the screen. There is homebrew to fix this called “framebuffer” but 4:3 is the sharpest.
Could shoat , hopefully that was also covered in the video
I just wanted to say 4:3 is the sharpest but squishing it back to its original resolution in wide screen is another great option
That's probably because you have a 1st gen Wii. I accidentally figured out that different revisions handle video output differently when working on my Nephew's Wii. Mine is a launch console and his is newer. His is sharp and looks right in widescreen whereas mine doesn't and is like yours where it looks best in 4:3. Turns out that was a hardware bug fixed in newer revisions. So there's a new rabbit hole to jump down if you wish.
@@oblivieon1567 how would you tell if you have an older model or newer model?
@@rightspritegaming The motherboard revision number is where the coin battery is. You used a black Wii in your video so that one doesn't have the bug the original White 01 revision Wiis had.
Do the USBloader video settings change the whole console or just games run through the USBloader. I want it to change the whole console but I can't find anything to say if it does or not.
@ethantoll8147 I'm pretty sure its just for the games, but I could be mistaken 😅
Can you make a video testing a wii with the latest models of smart tvs with 4k upscale?
I will be doing so on my next review video
My personal favorite wii hdmi adapter is the wii u
Try Electron Shepherds Wii adapter
Do you guys ship to the US?
What about the Electron-Warp from Electron Shepherd? I have it, and it is better than any adapters I've tested. Thanks for the video and the deatails explaining. Hope to see an opinion about this one.
I would enjoy getting my hands on the electron shepherd but the postage price is higher than the price of the adapter to the UK . So unfortunately I am unable to do so
@@rightspritegaming so sad. Thanks for answering.
I've heard good things about the wii2hdmi from Electron Shepherd.
Did you notice any significant amount of lag with the Autoutlet one? Or was it a normal amount of lag? And also wanted to thank for your detailed video, was really helpful!
Thanks for you support, no visual lagg in my experience
How do you use it with elgato hd 60 s with a Wii hdmi adapter
good morning, I use the white wii2hdmi adapter and I notice that almost imperceptible lines move, I don't remember if they were visible even with the scart. I'm on a 4k uhd tv, maybe it's just the graphics of the wii which aren't very clean because it's an old console?
i have a white generic one and i dont get white specs or noise
Just get the Mayflash or Electron Sheppard converters. They’re cheap and give a better visual than any of these. Won’t be as good as a RetroTink 5x or properly setup OSSC, but they’re a lot cheaper
I tried the grey may flash but It was not compatible with my capture card the electron looks like a good one to test but I can only find it in us with $20 shipping on top. That a bit high for me
@@rightspritegamingyep I think the the Electron Shepherd is priced fine, but the shipping is just too much.
Which ones support all Virtual Console & WiiWare titles?
Well this video is covering the output of the Wii console, I have not heard of titles from the Wii ware to not support 480p
@@rightspritegaming Many virtual console games run at 240p. Quite a few modern televisions no longer support this resolution, so if the adapter simply passes through that signal, you won't get a display output.
Happy I still have a tv that accepts hdmi composite and AV
I've tried some of these but my virtual console games always just go blank. (Well I think N64 worked). I gave up and got a component cable because my tv still has that... but eventually I'm going to upgrade my tv and lose that... I know there's better probably easier ways to play these now (like probably wii mode on a wii u..)
But I dunno. It bothers me if they become inaccessible on my original wii.
Can you clarify if the Wii is inputting a component or composite signal into any of the adapters.
Only component cable is cable of outputting a 480p so the ones you saw in this were all component as my out settings on the Wii was 480p through this process
The best HDMI converter for the wii is a Wii U
I am finding that out as I bought one of those convertors and it fell apart. Then I found out I can play all my wii games on the wii u so now I am looking for a wii u. Unfortunately the ones I have found online they want to much.
I play on a 4K tv and I bought an rca to hdmi converter from GameStop. It makes the screen blurry will the wii2hdmi help that?
I recommend the auotolet adapter, as it handles a better quality picture,
whats the best ....?
Quick question if I get this autolet, do I need to to take the 3 composite plugs out of my tv, and how do I get the audio? Will it work with my Toshiba SmartTV? Will it work for Wii sports and Wii sports resorts?
Just plug in the Autoutlet into the wii and then connect a hdmi cable to it and your tv. It works with every game don't worry
So it becomes hd?
@@Ajperry007 no not 1080p but 480p
as someone who really cares about image quality and has hdmi modded a bunch of consoles i wouldnt buy any of these but i would recommend the 'electron warp' from electron shepard
they make great quality stuff and its a cheap and easy way to get hdmi on your wii
I would love to get my hands on one but that $20 shipping is pretty steep , do you any UK suppliers
I just use Wii2HDMI, it's cheap and gets the job done, for a stupid ass low af audio problem mine has I just lower the volume of the TV
thanks alot order one now those aliexpress ones are dirt cheap
You shoudl turn off the deflicker (via homebrew) so games wont have this wired blue around them
Which one do you recommend between mayflash and bitfunx?
Bitfunk
I had a Samsung 3d smart tv, the Wii image on it looked so sharp with the TV's built in upscaling... I would see many people say the best wii image is on a CRT but I think they'd change their minds if they saw what I had back then. Textures and images looked HD, basically. Even some of the games' aliasing were mitigated in the process.
I eventually upgraded to a better, 4k Samsung TV.
The issue is the upscaling on that TV sucked compared to the previous, resulting in an image that, even with sharpness on max, it would still look blurry. Colors were a bit better but the overall tradeoff was not at all worth it.
Maybe one day I can find another TV with good upscaling and set up my good old wii to mess with games, game mods, emulators and homebrew shenanigans again. Meanwhile, I don't have the time to do those things anymore.
Does any of these also work with the WII MINI Please ? If not then is there an item or anything that make the Wii MINI Working with HDMI ?
I have never got my hands on one yet sorry
Just buy a used proper size Wii
Search for wii mini component mod, since the wii mini doesn't support component output among other things
No Wii2HDMI adapter will solve this.
It looks like the gray Mayflash adapter is designed for SNES/SFC, N64, and GC. Not for Wii. You should get the white Mayflash adapter for Wii.
Wait so you can connect wavebird gamecube controller into wii ?
Yeah that's my main go to
You haven't lived until you've used a Wavebird on your Wii. ;-D
hmm 100 quid to play my wii. Maybe a mini pc with coin ops is now a better option
best wii2hdmi adapter is the one from electron-shepherd
ihad 2006 sylvania component flat screen tv.
God's work
