  • Here we use two simple delays in a feedback loop to create an incredibly powerful Ambient style live looping set.

    Using simple delay on it's longest delay setting, you can get almost endless delays or short "loops". In this case we have 2 audio tracks with a simple delay in each. The output of both track 1 and track 2 are fed back into each other via the "track in". The monitor for each track is set to "in". Now by creatively crossfading, we can "pass" audio back and fourth between the two delays essentially creating a short live looping setup. This is accomplished by using Ableton's crossfader where the feedback of each delay is all the way up cross faded to that particular side. Putting different audio effects on either side can create endless ambient loops. Try different effects out, its magic! There is also an independent reverb send for lush verby goodness.

    hey man, thanks for all your insightful tutorials. One thing I've noticed is your CPU is always well managed and idling low but when I try to follow the tutorial my CPU spikes badly. Have you done a tutorial on this already or can you shed some light/quick tips...I do know a bit about freezing tracks and working with audio instead of midi where possible but I think there must be something else I'm missing? ...thanks again:)

    • @kirklandish
      @kirklandish 4 года назад +3

      I've been trying to figure this out as well to run a similar set-up only using soft-synths and this is fairly close I think. The setup takes four channels, which I grouped for convenience.
      1. MIDI track, audio out to Looper 1
      2. Monitor, audio from MIDI track , audio to Group out
      3. Looper 1, Audio From Looper 2, audio to Group out
      4. Looper 2, audio from Looper 1, audio to Group out

    Can do this much easier with Augustus Loop (Expert Sleepers). Delay up to 3600 seconds, and more importantly, you can add VST effects directly into the feedback chain via feedback send/receive outputs/inputs. And honestly, Plogue Bidule is much more straightforward for this kind of setup rather than Ableton. This is how I've made almost all my ambient stuff over the years at quiethorn.com (sorry, self-plug).

      Hey no worries I just discovered August's loop and it's amazing.

      Interesting! I have Augustus loop and never knew it could do this, i could only find two videos on the web and they were not much help so stopped using it. When you say "much easier" can you please explain what button/slider i would have to move from side to side on Augustus loop in order to get the same effect in this video or, i would really appreciate it!

      @@deanivan3951 Hi. With August Loop, you can put effects directly in the feedback chain, so you don't need to pass audio back and forth between 2 loopers. You would just have a wet/dry knob on each effect in the feedback chain to apply however much of that effect you want.

    • @SeedtoStage
      @SeedtoStage  5 лет назад +3

      yeah im trying find the best way to do this. Here is where i am at at this point. Set the "track in" to the track with your vst on it. Once you catpure the sound, set the input back to "looper 2". Not very elegant, but thats what i have for now. lmk if you find a better way to do this, preferably using a midi controller.

    What is the advantage of this method instead of the original method, with the multiple Looper effects? From a leyman's point of view (mine), the old one seems to be more intuitive and versatile.

    • @SeedtoStage
      @SeedtoStage  4 года назад +1

      this is just fun and immediate and a totally different method for creation. No advantage at all, I find that different people want different solutions for different situations and for me this was just a fun little experiment to generate unique sounds really fast. The first 3 videos i did for looping are definitely be the most useful for common looping applications.
