I don't think you realise how much of an inspiration you are to us. I'm an Ableton gal on and off for about 7 years (still learning always) currently coming out of a music production rut, you reminded me of how much I really love this and and how important this really is to me. At some point I started to struggle trying to fit myself into one music genre/style box, as I always produced more experimental and mostly wrote for others but releasing for myself became a big question mark, with all the socials and etc and I burnt out eventually altogether. It's was not that easy to get out of this especially without an enthusiastic supportive team to help (yet). You actually helped me reignite my passion that I had for so long and reminded me that this can be genuine and beautiful, and this IS important. And I 100% agree with you on saying yes and embracing mistakes, one of the most valuable lessons applicable to life in general in my opinion Huge thank you to from the bottom of my heart ❤ Btw your improv is absolutely amazing. I'm re-listening for the 10th time 💪Huge Bravo, you are super talented & skilled and bring so much light with what you do! Even on rainy days, please remember how much value you bring to this community and what crazy positive impact you have with what you do 🙏
I’ve been doing this in front of random people like busking and at coffee gigs because all technical and foundational knowledge all seem to disappear in front of the awareness of people being in your creative space. Doing that often is helping so much
I've been practising improvising at home with my set up for a while and this was a question I had. I guess getting used to being "in the moment" in front of other people is different that doing it by yourself at home.
@@robinlee28 totally. There is a filter that is added simply by having people present if you’re not used to it. It’s been tough and over a year and I’ve only just started getting into real flows
I suspect I'll have to have a sort of half prepared set and make the solos and melodies the thing that is improvised at first, so I can get used to being really in the moment in front of an audience. I guess I'll also have to do some coffee shops etc before hitting the clubs@@elijahlucian
Hello. Love your enthusiasm and obvious expertise in music technology. You’re great. Just a quick observation. Electronic rock bands were improvising live on stage 50 years ago. A good example is Tangerine Dream, a German rock band. For the first ten or fifteen years of their career every concert went in different directions. I’m no worried that over dependency on midi sequencing with DAWs and repetitive looping has stifled creativity and live improvisation…. I am just getting back into performing and recording electronic music (just for fun) after a gap of more than forty years! Watching videos like these helps me understand modern music making tools better. A big thanks from Australia!

nice to see a different approach to the topic. One thing I often notice is, that the more simple things work better and create the better feeling at the end. Especially when layering, each layer should not be complicated, the magic is all the layers working together. I really like, how you create different tension in this performance and that pause in the middle, followed by a climax.This is often missing in modern music, it's often flat... I also like your happy nature... (not sure, how to say that most expressive in English, I"m not a native speaker, that relaxed feeling, when your brain is a unit with your feelings and you are radiating[?] that feeling to your audience)

This is great! I have a small but though. The thing I like most about improvisation in general is that the most magical things tend to not happen in making something perfect, it is the unexpected that makes the performance come alive. So maybe not focus too much on "perfect improvisations" (that's a lot of pressure to put on a person), but practise what to do with mistakes that inevitably happen instead. By mastering the mistakes they're not a problem, they become a natural part of the performance. That being said, following your timeline I still have 8 or 9 years to go before I'm ready for this, so take what you will from my comment. 🙃
I totally agree, there is no perfect improvisation. In electronic performance there is a level you can feel comfortable with your setup, but when it comes to creativity... there is no failure or "right" way to do it.
Also i had so many mix feelings about Ai music... But finally start using it as a creative tool for multimedia purposes...Im a using Udio, and me being a musician, i asked for scales and bpm... But this wont recognize like that the plots i asking for... However; chat gpt could give you chord progressions and song structures(obvioulsy writed down)...You should make a video on how you would use Ai as creative tool...or what do you think about it...
I would love to have a video tutorial on how to have a jam session with Ableton being the brain, and then having separate headphone mixs for each person jamming. Please!
Do you use midi learn with the monogram or do you have a special python script f.ex clyphx . That one is pretty good because I dont have push for fixed length recording . Great work youre good

So I liked the video but wanted more of an abelton live tutorial than a how to improv tutorial. I know how to improv but I don't understand how to setup a work station so I can do it easy. I have to use a mouse to click record and space bar to stop. I don't how to make the song flow easily through my setup

I think one of the biggest hindrances we have with this software is how open ended it is. A blank sheet can go so many places and it's up to you as an artist to channel it out of your mind into the daw. That's why there are so many ways to do the same thing in ableton.
