Playing this for my daughters to further inspire them. Seeing women who look like them create in excellence is encouraging in ways they may not understand until much later. Great work overall…your journey inspires me as well.🫡
Great explanation. Love that you’re genuinely trying to help other filmmakers and not sell yourself. This video helped boost my confidence in my creative abilities. Hope to see this channel grow, but never change this personal format! It works great for your audience.
9:35 - You're a true creative! Most people don't think like that.. And for me working at a publishing company, as a Video Producer, it's imperative that people think like this, and utilise their creative knowhow, to produce quick turns, as you reiterated, in 1 DAY!.
You’re exceptional at explaining the process and the purpose. Really appreciate your videos. They’ve helped me be more intentional in my own video productions.
Wow! This spot brought tears to me eyes. It took me back to my days at Alabama State University in Montgomery Alabama. The red brick. The Yard. You took me back.
Remember that time Nike purposely mis-translated that African tribe to make them say how much “loved it” when they were actually saying to leave and that they didn’t want the shoe. Now thats storytelling
Dope video and detailed breakdown. I think all of us go through this. That 20m breakdown to 2m is always a pain, so much you don't want to remove😅. Thanks for the transparency! Been doing this for years but always open to learn more from others.
This opened my eyes up to so many possibilities and new perspectives i can share through my art. You are truly inspirational and you broke down everything so well 💖! I hope to continue to see you create more amazing things for the culture and world 🌟🥰🤞🏿🤎#Blackgirlsrock !
You explain your process very good. I’ll send this to my daughter she’s a writer, and as a writer she should understand the filmmaking process to help with her writing. Happy New Year
@@BrittneyJanae Kind of. You are killing it and I have not started yet, haha. I have like 6 softly scripted ideas. Just going to get the time and courage to create. Thanks again for the support.
Hey, just a heads-up I just visited your channel and saw I was un-subscribed. I have heard RUclipsrs saying that their followers were being unsubscribed by RUclips. I subscribed again.
I love this! Any tips on storytelling for family documentaries? I want to interview some of the elders in my family and due to the nature of things they might not be able to come to a beautiful studio or anything like that so I have to do the best with what I have. I know you’ve done similar pieces with your own family and Kinloch so any tips or questions we should ask our elders to pull those stories out?
@@LivingFreeDaily yes I did this very thing with my family after my grandmother passed away! I never bring lights because I have to fly to them. So I try my best to utilize the lights given. Do they have lamps I could use, what’s the best room in their house for lighting, what room do you like more! That’s how I approach those. And just match my settings to make sure everything looks good! I always bring mics anyway so I just use those and even if it’s one camera you can just do a two shot or get creative and maybe focus on them more with you in a dirty shot. Question wise is different for everyone! For me I asked how my grandmother got to STL. I asked them about why we settled in Humboldt. I asked about the cotton as we drive to Tennessee, how the family traditions came about. Most times elders talk the most so you will get a lot that you really gotta cull through and cut down!
This was such a dope breakdown! And great job on the piece. Do you have a directors cut or a longer cut that you can share? I feel like there are so many other gems that you can make from what you captured!
We def cut out a lot of stuff to keep it close to two minutes! But I didn’t make a directors cut. I could go back into it and add more but it was a tough edit trying to find b roll that we could use to match! She has some things in the works so we’re gearing up for a bigger scale than this!
Do you capture b-roll after you're done with your main course of the shoot? Sometimes I wish I got more b-roll because sometimes you don't feel you needed it until you're editing and it's too late lol
@ Ok right on. I’ve been trying to decide which platform (Epidemic Sound, MusicBed, etc…) to use, and all I’ve been seeing on reviews of almost every platform, are copyright issues. Thanks for the feedback.
Get all the information up front and shoot everything correctly so it’s less work in post!! No time to fix it in post. So I make sure we think of everything while shooting! And I’m already thinking of the edit on set so I know how I want to edit it before I get to the editing table.
Thank you for explaining why the story telling is the most important and impactful part. Love your work!
Thank you so much!!
You do a really good job, articulating technical terms and points in a way that people outside the industry can understand.
Thank you so much!!

That Tinker Hatfield episode of Abstract is legendary!! I’ve shown that to my students before

Love you more! Thank you for pushing me even when you don’t know you are lol!! We in this thang forever they not ready! lol
Good video I loved the location and reasons why you went with such a location make so much sense
Appreciate it! Location is key to storytelling! And we both had shot there before individually and was like yep that’s it lol
This is a really good video to watch. Learnt much and enjoyed every bit of it.
Thank you so much! I appreciate that!
