Filmmaking is 50% problem solving. Glad things all worked out. Salute on sharing this process, especially seeing a sis like ya self in these spaces when theyre arent already many is inspiring. Respect!
Half the battle is putting out fires that just randomly start. Can't control some things but just have to adapt tp the situation! Thanks for this video!
A team is essential as you showed. The combined experience and skills comes in handy every time. When I ran into issues on a shoot, my team member was a lifesaver and came through in the clutch
Yeah I just did a Virtual Production set and LORD the technicalities that are prepared to fail… But I’m grateful that in spite of the obstacles you still made something amazing!
While I am tryin to break into the movie industry, I worked as a DJ and sound producer for 20 years, one lesson is consistent…ALWAYS have a back up. You don’t need to worry about budget or other constraints if you already own and have your own equipment. For me as a DJ, I already carried a mp3 player, and a cd player for backups. I know you live and die for your FX6. It is good to have it with you as a backup.
As a DP it’s different. Client give you budget. And most DPs don’t own their own cameras so while that may work in other fields it’s not as common as a DP.
Amazing lessons and huge shout to your team at crunch time. Did you guys have a producer that helped find location, coordinate rentals etc. loved the VR set (especially when the 4th wall is broken), felt modern.
Yes we did have a producer! We location scouted but unfortunately they didn’t have someone who knew how to use the VR at the location scout to do an in-depth with us. Not sure why. We also had a prep day but because of budget it was half day and not everything could get looked at with a half day prep day. So just overall odds were against us.
Honestly I understand! Last year I kept going back and forth on if I wanted to DP or just be a Cam Op! Many people don’t know the true role of a DP! It’s hard, it’s rewarding like all other roles but it is hard!
Dropping straight gems! Mild heart attacks be creating some crazy lessons haha. stuff be happening, first time using the canon r8on a wedding shoot, it overheated and I had to use my phone and my backup camera
Recent mistake I made on a shoot. Filmed a podcast and forgot to hit record on one of the cameras 😢 I also recorded them on Lav Mics. I have 2 of the DJI dual mic systems. I recorded all 4 signals into a Zoom F6 and I record on the transmitters as a back up. I was getting some weird interference on the mics but I thought I’d be good with the back ups. The audio drift between all of the mics was sooooooo bad. Like 5 minutes in and I was getting 1 second plus of drift already. I have to rerecord the podcast this weekend free of charge 😫
I had a plug socket on the set that did not work before, It was Lucky that Lee had extra V-mounts in his bag. Recently, I had one bolt well on my tripod completely snap on me I'm waiting for Neewer to email me back, and I hope they get back to me soon.
@@BrittneyJanae I shot a music video there, but I didn’t use the screen so I shot at the little Tokyo scene right behind you and use the convenience store. But I was wondering of using that on another project so I’m glad you’re sharing your experience on lighting it because now I’m literally going to go tell our talent let’s just do the first plan 😂
If you have an editor, as him/her to EQ your voice. The higher frequencies need to be brought down a little bit. I have been listening to your videos, and I noticed it is so for all the videos I have watched thus so far. Your voice is almost 100% mids, so it isn't filled out. In a sense your voice is EQ-ed like a car horn. Just a narrow part has almost all the volume going into it. Are you mixing two mics together, as I seem to hear shure, but also the bumping of a MIC, while I can see you are not bumping the MIC/Shure. Sounds like you have a lavier mic also.
Hey only the shure mic. I edit my own videos so no audio person. If it’s something I can do myself I don’t mind doing it but I’m not audio engineer so idk what to do.
This is just a reminder to keep a B cam because technology gone technology.... Either it can overheat, which I've had happen before, and you hate to tell a paying client to hold on while my camera cools off, or your battery might die which I've had to happen as the long-winded client is going on and on my battery light was flashing trying to capture the last bit of an interview lol...
True but as a DP that’s not a thing to tell client we need to rent another camera as a just in case unfortunately but as a one man band I def always have a couple cameras on me!
@@BrittneyJanae If it's not in the client-budgeted shoot is it bad to bring your own personal camera as long as the specs match the main camera being used?
We all crave that feeling of going on set and not running into any issues, but is that even possible really? 😅 Also, y'all use a whole Fx6 for BTS?? 👀 Must be nice🎉 💵😂
Ugh, felt! I had to prep a green screen shoot with Muppet Style Puppets that have lots of fur material in a 12x10 space using a teleprompter and no prep day. Nearly lost my mind as the producer, director, dp, editor on that project. Now I know how to work with professional puppeteers though and they loved the execution sooooo stress paid off? Also, would love to work BTS on your sets if you're even in NYC!

I hear ya! Virtual production is a whole different beast, def not something I. My bingo card to do again unless I absolutely have too lmbo
You are really becoming my favorite RUclips channel friend!!! Another banger!
I'm glad you came out of this with lessons learned. That is the only way to grow. Problem solving on set is for sure a test of someone's resolve!
For sure! That's what it's all about! Def grew a lot from that shoot in the soft skills area
Amazing how you held it together without freaking out under pressure. Great work for your first time doing a virtual production shoot!
I was def freaking out on the inside lol but not too much
Thank you for sharing these lessons!
Of course! Glad you liked it!

@ definitely storyboarding and pre production! Thats where I’m kinda struggling right now
I love your honesty

This happened to me on a shoot a few years back but I was the bts guy with the extra cam that saved the day.
Man I thank you for them! Lol.

I am going to go off topic and ask what brand of hat you had. It looked nice and comfy. also, good job with the pivot
probably my fav hat now!!! it's super comfortable.. Use my code B10 to get yours filmclothing.co/B10
everything you said was right on point. this happened to me as well .. must remain calm lol
Man and on the inside you're screaming lol
what was the troubleshooting process used to get thing back on track for the camera?
To be honest we unplugged everything that was connected and let it sit for a second and it finally came on. I can’t say exactly what my AC though
You’re so dang good. Sheesh. I need to shadow haha
Haha I need to shadow YOU!!

yea you have to light LED walls completely different then normal exteriors - its a whole different animal

lol I’ve never been this early for a video before
