Been crocheting for 69 years and this method is new to me - fab! Have to say you hold your hook the way I was taught was the only correct way and doesn’t it look so much more effortless than other methods I’ve seen on here?
@linwhitworth4794 my great- grandmother taught me to hold my hook that way, too. It's ever so much easier on the hands and better for maintaining consistent tension, too!
Oh my, whoever created this "turning-not" chain, he/she is a genius. That gives so much relief bc of that nice edge you get when next row ends. As someone said already, that gives a second chance to crocheting again for so many people. I even decided to repurpose one of my old unfinished sweaters just to enjoy that kind of turning 😄 Also, when combined with chainless foundation, that gives literally perfect knitted fabric. Gorgeous! Many thanks for sharing that 😊
I love doing this. Blossom Crochet Showed us how to do this. I do it with US single, double, and treble crochet. looks so much nicer. much better edges. Thanks for bringing it to all your followers.
Inexperienced crocheter here, and the most frustrating part of the turning chain is finding the right stitch at the end. This is what's so appealing to me in this video -- it appears that stitch will be much more identifiable -- but I also wonder how you adjust for single and half doubles. I struggle with tension also.
for a single you just do an extended single. which is just extending your loop longer and instead of chaining just put your first single crochet in the first stitch.@@robinmoore7202
For a half double you can just put one stitch instead of two. and you can put three for a triple. it works for just about all stitches.@@beckasmith6725
Learning this stacked single crochet is what convinced me to start crocheting again. I made a throw with some yarn I purchased several years ago and I love how easy it all was, and how the edges look. I also don't do the chain one turn for single crochets anymore either. Thank goodness for people like you who share the knowledge!
I began doing this stacked single crochet about a year ago, I won't go back to the old way, the look is nice. I've been croching for about 46 years and I do it for all of the reasons that you stated.
I just watched this video a few hours ago and tried using this turning method. Its a game changer for me!!! My stitch count has been perfect from row to row. My sides are now gorgeous in my eyes. Very straight. I was always dropping or gaining stitches trying to make the sides look decent, not anymore!!! All i can say is thank you!! I am left-handed and watched the right-handed video with no problems. Thanks for having a left-handed video out there.
This makes so much sense and always thought how is the 2 or 3 better than a proper treble stitch. I think even if you just manipulate a straight forward treble it still looks better. I've used a standing stitch before, but after crocheting for 50+ years I would not always remember to do a standing stick and do the chain, just because my brain is trained that way, and realise after I'd done a row or 2.
I just chain ONE (and turn) and then do a US double (UK treble) stitch in the very FIRST hole. It makes a VERY straight edge, HOWEVER, it also makes the first stitch identical to the others, which looks much neater.
I'm so glad you are sharing this with people Tracy. I have had the odd pattern (I'm in the U.S.), that instructed me to do this, and I really preferred it as well. I NEVER liked the 'chain business', as it looked SO unfinished! When I first was instructed to do it this way several years ago....I couldn't understand how it took me so long to come across this! Why was I chaining all this time!!! 🤦♀ I'm not the type to 'envision' things well, but I certainly can do as instructed....and I absolutely know what I prefer. I'm sure most people are really happy you have shared this and are as appreciative as I was when I first learned of it!! 👍 💕
I saw the video a while ago and wasn't making blankets yet because it was summer. Now the nights are getting colder it's time to make blankets again. I remembered this video refreshed my memory and started crocheting. This is amazing and makes it look beautiful on that edge. Thank you so much.
Thank you! You're right about it being a game changer. And it looks beautiful. Now I'm going to watch the "lefty" version. I learned to crochet from my grandmother in the early 1960's. She being right handed and me being left handed made this a bit of a struggle, but with her patience I finally learned. What I didn't realize until about a year ago was that for all of those years I was doing some strange Frankenstein of crochet. Part right, part left, but it worked. So now whenever I want to learn something new, it helps to have both versions; right and left. So thanks again and I have subscribed.
I just discovered your channel and absolutely love your content. Your tutorials are explanatory, yet very straightforward and to the point. Your voice is so calm, flowing and relaxed, which makes it such a joy to watch your videos!
I also love using this Stacked Single Crochet stitch. I've always has such a hard time keeping my side edges straight, but after I learned this stitch, it has helped so very much in straightening them out.
You have the best working technique there is! The pen hold and run yarn over left middle finger. Very high speed/output achievable like this. A pleasure to behold
Been crocheting for years and just found this video using your method instead of turning chains. So impressed with it! Going straight into my current project to give it a go. 😊
A totally , delightful hunt/hack/ TIP!!! easy to do at the end of a crochet and standing Don't pass this up!!! 🎉🎉🎉 I USE IT NOW crocheting making my crochet experience awesome!!! Thank you so very much 🎉❤
Hi...love this new way for turning chain. Although I watched your video when it came put, I am just now putting it to use. The sides of the blanket are so straight. Totally amazing!! Thank you!!!
I had seen this before, but totally forgot and I am almost done with my sweater BUT I will use it on the next one and I still put a note on the pattern😊
love dont crochet all that much but use on knit edges of blankets you did a great demo thanx so much I made a special playlist just for this so I dont lose it. Blessings!
I must say, from South Africa, you have made my day after pulling out unsightly work I tried this method. Beside counting wrong, it works perfectly, thank you so much❤
Hi Tracy, I have seen this on another video and I agree with you! I love it and agree the stitch is definitely a much more pleasing way to start rows! Thank you for doing this video!
I've been crocheting since I was 13 or 14. I am now 65. This is a complete game changer, for sure! Thank you, thank you! Without you & the web, I would never have learned this! Thank you!
Bless you - I am making a giant mesh granny square for part of a summer top and the turning chains were driving me bonkers. This is literally life changing! lol!
Way to go! I will alternate between traditional and this new way, since it’s really what’s comfortable for everyone. I prefer straight edges over lofty edges. It makes a whole lotta difference!
I found this method on another RUclips video and I absolutely agree with you, this method is a game changer and I am fairly new to crochet. Equally Ireally like the foundation chain and foundation row as one operation. No more tight foundation chains.
I’ve finally found someone who holds their crochet hook as I do with the yarn over the left middle finger. I learnt from my mum when I was about 12 and didn’t realise there was any other way till I discovered the internet about 9 years ago. You can go at warp speed holding your hook this way. 🌈🦘
Thank youuuuu!!!! I'm teaching myself to ceochet and I could NOT figure out why my edges were so bulgy and ugly 😂 I just practiced this and it's pretty!! Much much better, I'll only do this from now on. Big huge hugs to you ❤
thank you. When i did do turning chain i was just doing 2 for a UK treble (US double) a lot of tutorials said 3 that always bulged too much. I much prefer this way
I have been doing this! I didn’t think that anyone else did it, and I also just do a chain two if I was starting a new row like the old way. Thank you 🙏❤️🥰
I have been doing this for years and it’s the only way for me too. It does look better, to me, in the finished work. I’m glad you’re showing it to get the word out to more ppl who may be new to crochet or whatever. Cheers
Geez, after 55 years of crocheting, I love this new way . Thumbs up to whoever created it.. 👍
Thank u

ikr? I finally decided to check it out, and this poster made it SO EASY!! Looks fantastic! Thanks!

I whole heartedly agree!! 🎉❤
I used to struggle to find the last stitch in the row This gives a clean straight edge Thank you for this tip

Same here about a year ago! 👍🏼
How do you do this for a single? Wouldn’t this give you too much height?
Inexperienced crocheter here, and the most frustrating part of the turning chain is finding the right stitch at the end. Yes!! I'm also not confused about which stitch to go into at the start of rows!
What a nice edge! After 50 years of crocheting I am definitely switching to this technique and whole heartily thank you for sharing it!❤
Me, too! Over 50 years!
This makes so much sense and always thought how is the 2 or 3 better than a proper treble stitch. I think even if you just manipulate a straight forward treble it still looks better. I have crocheted for over 30 years and still learning. Thanks for sharing.
You are so welcome!

Yes, I agree !! I have started doing the same and you’re right it does resemble the other stitches.
I have seen that one…it works too
I love doing this. I've been crocheting 43 years and you are totally right when you say this is a game changer. It makes a more beautiful edge.
It really does. A much nicer finished edge! 👍
I've been crocheting for over 50 years and have recently learned this method and I love it.

I have done this "stacked single" technique for quite a while now. I love it!
Wonderful tip. Thank you!!
It makes all the difference!!!! Thanks a lot ❤
Well I'm never going back either now! It's amazing how much easier and nearer it is. Thank you so much!
and the 2 loops at the end stitch a godsend!
Thank you for such clear audio and visual presentation. Looking forward to more demonstrations.
You are welcome!

I love it!! Thank you for showing this!!! It looks great and it blends right in!! I absolutely love it!!🥰 🥰🥰🥰👍👍👍👍👏👏👏
Yes, I agree with you - the 'new way to go'. Thanks!!
THIs is the solution to the problem I have had with my projects. Thank you for posting the technique.
Thank you! You're right about it being a game changer. And it looks beautiful. Now I'm going to watch the "lefty" version.

thank you and welcome to my channel
Becausz you do a Frankenstein 'hybrid' you might enjoy 'freeform' crochet if you are creative or don't need patterns!
I love this technique. It also looks as though it prevents the gaps at the end that creates the holes in your projects. Thanks a lot for this.
I just discovered your channel and absolutely love your content. Your tutorials are explanatory, yet very straightforward and to the point. Your voice is so calm, flowing and relaxed, which makes it such a joy to watch your videos!

I saw 👀 someone else do this also, and ever since then, I have done it, too. It's the best thing. I won't go back ether. 😮❤👍
I still make the chain but go into that same "ignored" stitch the same you do beginning the new row. My edges are great!
This is what I do too
You have the best working technique there is! The pen hold and run yarn over left middle finger. Very high speed/output achievable like this. A pleasure to behold
Thank you 🤟🤟
That is a real game changer. I like that stitch. Thank you for sharing that. Diane Ernest

Thank uou for sharing. Valerie 😊
That excellent.. especially for a new crocheter the edge will be smooth not wonky..thanks tracy!!
You are a great teacher. Really. I have PTSD and I can’t remember anything. But I think I might be able to learn this. My blankets are always uneven
I love this! I've seen something like it on another channel, but this is so simple, and it really does make a nice edge. Thank you!!
I just learned this stitch and i"ve been crocheting over 50 yrs!!! It is a game changer and I'll never go back either!!!! THANK YOU!!!

Fantastic. I've seen shorts with these methods but couldn't quite grasp what they were doing. This is a most excellent tutorial.😊

How would this be done with US double or treble stitch? I’m loving the smoothness of it 😍
WOW, really nice edges this way, thanks for your very clear tutorial.
Very smart , I love that way and Wil try tomorrow. Thanks a lot for sharing ❤🎉
I had seen this before, but totally forgot and I am almost done with my sweater BUT I will use it on the next one and I still put a note on the pattern😊

Thank you Tracy. I hadn't seen this stitch before
I love this, too. I searched forever years ago so I wouldn't have to ever slip stitch in a chain ever again.
Very nice!!! I love it!! Thank you, Tracy!
You are so welcome!
I’m going to use this from now on.
It’s great. Thank you from Indiana USA.
I have been doing this for years. I discovered this on my own and didn't know that other people were doing it this way too. Thank you.

I like it because it ends the confusion of if the chain 3 is counted as the first stitch or not! 😊
Watching your way is so much better than the old way
.I am converted. Thank you
