Wow. I went vegan so many years ago for health reasons. I remember crying my eyes out because I couldn’t eat any of my Filipino food. I ran into your website so many times, and friends who would cook for me ran into your website and copied the recipes for my diet. I’ve never watched your vid so, but let me just tell you I am so blessed to be found your website and recipes. For many Filipinos, food is a symbol of love and family. So when you take that away from a Filipino... mannnn... I cried so hard finding out I couldn’t eat meat anymore lol. Thank you so much for everything you’ve done, and thank you so much for sharing. I would’ve never been able to make the first step without you.
Glad to see you're back! Authentic Filipino food has always seemed like the most challenging to veganize (compared to Thai, Indonesian, even Chinese etc). You have made it so easy! Looking forward to trying these out!
I'm so amazed how you're able to make literally every filipino dish into a vegan version. even the ones that are mostly meat that i thought would never be possible to be made vegan! I recently decided to transition to being vegan and your channel is a life saver from missing my moms traditional cuisines but in a healthier way! :)
Michelle Carr aww hi Michelle! So sorry for the late reply. Thank you for the kind words. I hope you’re enjoying your vegan journey. I’m glad to help with the recipes . Happy cooking!
I figured out how to do this while tossing random things into my hot wok full of oil one day I tried yuba, black fungus, rice paper and shiitakes the same way you did them. It was the first time i had yuba and I had no idea it would fry up like a pork rind.
I have never purchased bean curd in my life, didn't even know what it was until watching your video. I just fried it for the first time ever and I am absolutely blown away at how exact it taste just like the real thing. I don't how you ever found this out or who comes up with all these extremely brilliant vegan recipes but I am so amazed!!! I have recently been transitioning into a full Vegan lifestyle and all I can say is you guys are so creative! Ty for the video! My son's will love this and my Filipino sister n law will too. 😉
Hi! I'm glad you've discovered the magic of bean curd. Isn't it amazing? I'm looking forward to hear what your son and sister-in-law thinks. I hope they like it :)
The thing about the Beancurd is it doesnt really have taste inside. It is only salty on the surface. Hope you can develop a recipe that is tasty on the inside. The Shiitake Mushroom recipe is great as long as the mushrooms are good and it is prepared well.
Salamat! I have been a vegetarian for 31 years. I don't use garlic and onions for my cooking, but I find that all I have to do is use my usual substitute (hing) and your recipes turn out great for my household. Do us a favor: Carry on!
Hi! I'm new to veganism, and I'm so happy I found your channel. I can now make vegan Filipino favorites, and not hear my dad complaining that he can't "understand" the food. If I'm using an air fryer, how long should I fry the chicharon?
Thanks for sharing. I will absolutely share all your Fil vegan recipe with my Fil community in the Philippines. I didn't become a vegan for health purposes, but for the love of animals. Thank you for being compassionate.
I followed your technique in making mushroom chicharon from www.astigvegan.com/mushroom-chicharon/ except I used my homegrown King Stropharia Mushrooms aka wine caps and they turned out great. Thanks again, awesome video, hoping we can all share more recipes with one another!
I tried the bean curd. It may be crispy but it’s a bit bland and without the umami flavor. And the taste of salt doesn’t go beyond surface level. What’s the best thing to do?
Ni Mang Juan Chicharron and 1,5 L Red Horse was my go-to Snack during my time in the Philippines in 2018. I hope i can return soon to see all my friends again after the pandemic. TAGAY!
I finally tried this! deep fried bean curd skin was so good!!! it even had that umami flavor you get from fried chicken skin. Seriously I'm gonna do this more often it was the perfect fried treat without having to batter something!
Jacquelyn Yutuc hi! Sorry for the late reply . Sweet rice flour is widely available in the Philippines. We use it to make palutang, bilo bilo, etc. but if you still can't find it then I suggest using corn starch as substitution. Hope that helps!
I am wanting to do this for profit, like those in the supermarket marked with mushroom chicharon, but the big deal is preserving its crispiness. If anybody knows how to preserve the crispiness i am willing to pay if really proven. Please feel free to email me if you are one.
Really ‽‽... you're not going to taste it so we can hear the crunch ‽‽ 👎... im sure it's awesome. But the show is just Incomplete... like, everyone wants to know and see aanndd know what to exspect. 😥...
Sorry, but it's not chicharron if it's not fried pork, chicken, or beef rinds. Thanks for sharing. I am Puerto Rican and I grew up eating this. It is one of the things I miss since going plant based.
I made this today and must say definitely taste like chicharron!!! Omg ! Thank you!!!
Eliza Valdez success! I’m glad you enjoyed 😊
You made both or just one?
I'm so glad to see you back! My daughter will be so happy when I make these.
Aww your daughter is very lucky to have you :)
Bean curd sticks can soak in the shiitake liquid, dry then fry!
I figured out how to do this while tossing random things into my hot wok full of oil one day I tried yuba, black fungus, rice paper and shiitakes the same way you did them. It was the first time i had yuba and I had no idea it would fry up like a pork rind.
Nice! I’ll try frying the black fungus too and see how that works . Thanks for the tip 💕

Philipinos are also hispanic due to the fact that they were also a spanish colony for over 300 years.

SuziSays i just fried a wholw bag of bean curd up to try and find out the answer to that, i will let you know.
How about dried maitake mushrooms, will it still have that crispy crunch?
Haven't tried it yet. Maitake can be so hard to find sometimes.
Puwede ba to gamitin sa IP namin

Iba pa po ba yung beancurd sheet sa taope?

I'm so sorry for the late reply. You can try adding powdered mushroom seasoning which you can find at health food stores, vegan stores, and online.
i want to do all your recipe but i got no vegan places near me:(..
where do you live? I suggest checking our farmers markets.
Ni Mang Juan Chicharron and 1,5 L Red Horse was my go-to Snack during my time in the Philippines in 2018. I hope i can return soon to see all my friends again after the pandemic. TAGAY!
Mang Juan Chicharon was a game changer! And yes, hopefully this whole pandemic will go away so we can reunite with friends again. Cheers 🍻!

I finally tried this! deep fried bean curd skin was so good!!! it even had that umami flavor you get from fried chicken skin. Seriously I'm gonna do this more often it was the perfect fried treat without having to batter something!

Sometimes it's just called rice flour but it's in the bags for making various pastries and crepes. I've seen it called mochi flour, too.
My wife is a vegetarian. Shell definitely want to try this recipe..
Please try and make vegan Lechon Kawali. That will be the ultimate challenge.
I am wanting to do this for profit, like those in the supermarket marked with mushroom chicharon, but the big deal is preserving its crispiness. If anybody knows how to preserve the crispiness i am willing to pay if really proven. Please feel free to email me if you are one.
What the shelf life
Good for 3 days but best eaten right away for the perfect crunch.
So pretty
I just learned you can make vegan fried pork skin using gluten & spices/ herbs
Yum!

Paul Cascio you're annoying
And your fugly, so I'd rather be annoying.
