This is the new Peugeot 3008!
Now some of you may look at the 3008 and think it looks remarkably similar to the previous version. And to be fair, it does! But of course, it’s only a mid-life facelift, so wholesale changes to the design weren’t to be expected.
However, although there are a few noticeable styling updates, there’s one key area which has seen a big overhaul - the engines on offer! Along with your usual petrol and diesel options, there are now two plug-in hybrids to choose from, with the class-leader being 1.6-litre turbo petrol which comes with two electric motors to produce 300hp!
So it looks good, and the performance sounds great! But should you be choosing the 3008 over the likes of the SEAT Ateca or VW Tiguan? Stick with Mat to find out!

Im currently living in Japan and bought this SUV 2 years ago and it is the best purchase I've ever made. So true, I drove one about two years ago. It was lovely inside but it was a true gutless wonder when going up one of my local hills. My test for any car that I’m looking to buy is does the automatic hunt up and down the gearbox while going up the hill or does it pull smoothly and with no effort. In the 1600 diesel version it was bloody annoying.
In the end I went for a second hand A4 S-Line estate with the 211hp petrol engine. Lovely car but had the piston ring problem from the 2008-2011 model years. A litre of oil every 600 miles - Audi said that was acceptable.... I’ve got a GLA45 now, no suffering with a power deficit on that one 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Not sure how it is in USA but here in OZ there is just not enough of a dealer network to risk owning one.

Top Gear was a great show for comedy but their criticisms almost *never* made sense. They went as far as to say the problem with the Mclaren MP4-12c is that it 'lacks emotion'. Lol, and I always thought the exact opposite.
Nope credit where credit is due, after the halcyon days of the 205 and 405 of the 80's Peugeot went on a downward spiral of bland and boring cars. Id say Peugeot have got their mojo back. I owned a 1.9 205 GTI way back and only now would consider owning a Peugeot again. Bring on a new 208 GTI hybrid with 300bhp
Thanks for the really good test as always. You're the only one to talk about plastic quality not only on the upper dash (which every other car journalists caresse like if common drivers do it...). I just disagree with the "fog light good point". The point for fog lights is to place them as low as possible because there is less fog closer to the road ....

@@AndreiAndrei-rt4po probably not, but they are good!
I've owned one of these for the last 3 years (well the 1.6 turbo non face lifted version) and it's brilliant. Great design (especially the interior) and tech. I love the small steering wheel and find it easy to look over to view to instruments even though I'm not overly tall.
As for the engine start/stop button, it's not that you have to press it harder to shut the engine off, it's a time thing, like 1 second. If you quickly dab the button nothing happens but hold it down for a second and the engine shuts down.
Press lightly is for accessories. Hold it down for start or turn engine off. Simple once you get used to it. Agree re small steering wheel. My wife is 5ft2" and has no trouble.
You upload them, we watch them:)
Thank you and keep it going ...from Australia.
Love the review and 300hp. About time
I've owned the 3008 GT Line since June 2019 and LOVE it! The drive is the best I've ever experienced and level of comfort and spec is out of this world. I'm seriously considering the 2021 hybrid.
Update. I have purchased the 1.6 hybrid model. My only two gripes are the smaller fuel tank (to make room for the batteries) meaning I only had 35 miles remaining in the tank following a 272 mile journey. I have to say that as well as the engine being new, I did have my Halfords top box on. The other is the apparent removal of manual drive on the hybrid. The paddles are there but no 'M' button. 🤔 Great review Matt as usual.
I'm excited for the release of the 508 PSE 😂
Same!! 508 is the one for me
The extra boost doesn't last long enough. Most of the time you'll have a 225hp with the extra weight of the battery and the rear electric motors.
@@nikko1984 That’s actually a good thing if you think about it. Some people get a hybrid but never charge it, maybe it’ll encourage them.
£66,000 though.....who's gonna pay that.
@@yannickpeeters01 This kind of cars is made for homologation tests nothing more. Bringing with you all the time 2 or 3 passengers is nonsense for me. Just have a look now on modern cars (not even hybrid ones): more than 50% of the dust emissions are coming from the breaking systems and the tires. With the plug-in hybrid, it will get worse. Not even mentionning the production and the recycling from the battery cells.
Light is right, these modern technologies are doing the opposite.
I have a 2020 208 love the new design of it and seems like Peugeot’s interiors and exteriors are getting better and better! Compared to its previous models. I think I’ll either go for the new 2008 next or the 308, if they improve the interior (especially the steering wheel)
I expected final verdict Just Buy It after such positive review. The look of this car is amazing. Makes Tiguan, Karoq and Ateca very, very boring cars for grandparents. This is for young families with young souls. Anyway, another lovely review from Mat.

I have one of these, having driven BMW 5 Series and Audi A6's before and I really like it. Drives very well and easy, very comfortable, big boot, lots of technology, easy to park. By the way, the big storage between the front seats is fridge-like storage that you can keep food in when you shop or a bottle of wine in! I have the GT one.

Great editing and details. Love from Australia
Great review Matt. I hired a 1.6 diesel one of these a few weeks back for an airport run. Motorways and A roads.
Lovely car to drive, I'd always appreciate more power although for the majority of people the one I had is plenty sufficient.
I stand corrected. 1.5 diesel
The 2.0L diesel has plenty of power.
The most practical SUV with the best car design I've ever seen. Peugeot has done it again.
It was 2017 car of the year for a reason
I had one on hire for a week took It down to Devon and back It was really good to be honest , I thought the 1.2 engine would be gutless but it performed excellent.
Your enthusiasm & recommendation persuaded me to buy the previous 3008 - not enough changes to this version to make me want to upgrade. The 1.2L petrol engine is great, I think that I’ll be keeping my 3008 for the foreseeable future. Great review as usual though.
I think it's one of the best looking cross overs currently on the market. If it was a BMW or a Merc people would have been raving about it.

Peugeot are nailing it lately. We have had one for three years and no problems with daily use.
My sister has this car, but 2018 one. I love it, especially how comfortable the seats and suspension is and how quiet it is. 1.6 engine with 180 hp could be a little bit faster, but I find lack of 4x4 in this car mostly dissapointing.
Why would you like to add a 4x4 when the suv like this kind will never put a wheel on mud, dirt, or anything else ?

Matt: So then I’m a Peugeot fan
I am currently awaiting one of these as a new mobility car in April/May this year. A GT diesel in gorgeous celebes blue. A darker blue than you have here. Such a stunning beautiful car. It’s interior, the outside it certainly turns heads when it’s coming. I cannot wait to recieve mine. I currently have a 14 plate mk1 3008 which I will be trading in once I receive the new one. As old and dated as my 14 plate is - the reason I have stayed with the same make and model is because I love this car so much as a whole. It’s like driving in a favourite armchair I’m so comfortable in it. Hoping the new model is just as amazing to get used to driving wise
Damn, I just bought the non AWD 3008, six months ago. I love it, but ideally, I wanted AWD. I'll upgrade it in a year or two. You forgot to mention that the new infotainment screen is larger, but I agree that the interior is almost the same as the old version. Thankfully the interior is probably 5 years ahead of it's time. I love the interior, but my only single gripe is that it is not simple to dim the dash lights and the I cockpit is a lot brighter than the other lights, such as on the steering wheel or down by the volume dial. I also have the steering wheel set low and have a perfect view of the I cockpit.
We have Ultimate Red and it's a stunning car. Nice review again Matt, except I was certain you would say go ahead and buy it.
I have Peugeot 3008 GT 06/2017, and it's pretty fucking amazing car. Super nice, comfy and very well equipped. I agree with basically everything Matt said, as the car looks and feels exactly like this new model from the video. I can only recommend it.
