You go to Venice expecting to be amazed by the canals and bridges. And you are. But then you get lost in the alley ways and you think for sure you've travelled centuries in time. The place is just mesmerizing.
I have been to Venice several times while Dad was stationed with NATO years ago. But my favorite was Feb 2020. I went for the first time by myself. Got an airbnb, took a food tour, made friends on the tour, enjoyed Carnavale. But...Covid hit. Everyone scrambled out of the city. Though the reason for everyone's sudden departures was terrible, I stayed a few extra days. It was the most serene, magical and divine time I has ever spent there. The streets were quiet, the canals were quiet and you only heard Italian spoken. Only locals in that spectacular city. The most magical moments where it seemed that there were presences from the past around every corner. Looking forward to going back.
the first time I was in Venice it was off tourist season and besides the main attractions, the city was mostly empty. it was absolutely magical to walk at night through those empty narrow streets. at some point we reached a dead end and had to go back and so as we were leaving that corner we saw a girl in a beautiful long black dress just walk past us and after a few seconds disappearing into that dead end side alley. I was absolutely mesmerised.
@Italy by Italians I visit my family in Florence. Milan and my grandparents' home of Sicily. But Venice is on my list. I went to Rome, twice. I want to move there but my wife doesn't want to leave her Mexico.
I spent several days in Venice about 20 years ago, and it was magical! I spent one morning just wandering the little walkways between houses, seeing the rooftop gardens spilling over the sides of the houses, and soaking in the scenery. One of the highlights of my life! Great video, too.
Such a sensitive and well-curated list that embodies, beyond the popular and commercial stereotypes, the essential and timeless qualities that make Venezia unique and precious, a slowly fading but still beautiful dream of the splendor wrought by the generations that have gone before us. Thank you!
I have worked there for many years in Venice, and a beautiful city a magical city especially in winter when the fog falls over the city, it seems to be back in the year 1800 .. and it seems that suddenly some historical figure appears ... Which nation in the world has such beauty? or such fabulous architecture ... I have traveled around the world, I have lived in North America in Canada, but Italy is Italy ... Venice must be experienced .. in this video the island of Murano where they make glass sculptures is missing, the island of Burano and the island of Lido di Venice ... there is much more to see ..

We did the trip to the 3 islands. Watched glass blowing in Murano. The coloured houses is Burano are so pretty. The trip with a guide was just 25euros each. We also were given 50% off at the glass factory. An absolute bargain.

We spent 10 magical days in Venice in February 2019 and deliberately went off the beaten track. First day we just left our hotel as soon as we had breakfast and just walked till it was dark.We found fantastic restaurants and eateries out of the way and went to quite a few of the places you suggested. Can't wait to return.
Very very fine video. Lots of interesting things. I happen to like Castello and even when there is almost no room to walk in San Marco there are tourists there. Plus the beautiful church supposedly by Palladio. Venezia without doubt the most beautiful city on this planet. And no cars, almost no bikes and the perfect separation of pedestrian and transport. In my view this is what makes Venezia so wonderful. Other cities have intact ancient buildings (Siena, Vicenza, etc etc) but water in the streets and the serenity of all pedestrian makes it the jewel of our solar system.

We are currently in Venice on holiday in DT Zaccaria. I couldn't be asked to do a whole circle around Venice to get to Murano do we walked to Celestia. It was really beautiful. TOP TIP for Navigation: Canals are very good because if you know roughly where you are then you can follow the canals and they all lead to the gran canal. Also in Lido the beach is partially private so keep Walking north
I just subscribed ❣️ GREAT video. 🇮🇹❤️💚 I can’t wait to visit Venice again, I was last there 25 years ago. I was a single girl who stayed in a dormitory in a convent for cheap. This time I’ll bring my husband and our 18 yr old daughter.
Calle Varisco isn't the Narrowest street in Venice, Calle della Bessetta (near the station, santa croce side) is 10cm less and mabye more!!!!! Nice vid !!!!
Was there a few weeks ago, delighted to see St Mark's was dry this time every day! I stay at the Hotel Ala, because you can take a water taxi from the airport direct to the canal door in their lobby, much easier than dragging bags across bridges and plazas.
Hi Eri, I don't remember as we didn't try just one - to have a true Cicchetti experience you need to go from place to place, eating something in each one.
Wonderful video. Been to Venice several times but taking the whole family in May. We have some favorite restaurants and eating experiences but would like some recommendations that are not necessarily know by all. Thank you for this great video.
@@ItalybyItalians to be honest, just walking the streets exploring was the best… turning a corner and finding a little bridge… following a path and unexpectedly cross the grand canal… I only wish my wife and kids could have been there with me… next time for sure
@@ItalybyItalians The architecture is like being inside a fairytale, just having an expresso and watching the boats and gondolas go by on a side alley was lovely!
Churchies: San Sebastiano (with painting by Veronese), Gesuati, Gesuiti, San Salvador ("Annunciazione" by Tiziano, near Rialto Bridge), San Pantalon, San Nicolò dei Mendicoli, Madonna dell'orto, Miracoli, Scalzi (near the station), San Geremia, San Giacomo dell'orio, San Pietro di Castello, San Zulian. Very interesting, five minutes from Saint Mark, the school of San Giorgio degli Schiavoni, with masterpieces of Carpaccio. And obviously the most big churchies in Venice, Frari and San Giovanni e Paolo. And Ca' Rezzonico Santo Stefano. A lot of things to see. I love my Venice, anyway. My favorite place remains San Sebastian, after Zattere. But there are too beautiful Islands Like Sant'Erasmo (a sort of country in lagoon) and La Certosa. And food
Lake Garda is a great destination, full of things to do, you can check them out here: shorturl.at/gpDJ9 we would suggest to choose your preferred town based on what activities you want to do: if you are based on the northeast side it's not that easy to go all the way to the southwest. Lake Garda is the largest lake in Italy ✌️
@@ItalybyItalians thank you for the reply! We want a sleepier place where we can sit and read at cafes, see beautiful but authentic Italian buildings and neighborhoods, and meet Italians (not just other tourists). Maybe Lake Orta would give us that feel more than Garda as Garda is so populated with tourists? Or is there a Lake Garda town that's sleepy?

hi for someone coming for a few hours a.k.a. day tripper, what are the best places tovisit so that the view of water streets and perhaps coffee tea by the café next to the water? Due to overcrowding, are there any places similar to this in Murano or Burano? Or for the first time visitor is the Venice msin island itself is a must see?
Wonderful video. Thanks for sharing Lots of great tips. We are going to Venice in 2 weeks for 3 days. Can`t wait. We were told to go to the area Dorsoduro to eat. The locals should be there We were told?
Hey Niels, thanks! Yes, they told you right, if you are in Dorsoduro you can head to Campo Santa Margherita to find nice places to eat 😋 have a nice time and let us know your experience in Venice ❤️
I have been many times to the Taverna San Trovaso by the canal of the same name (it is on a fondamenta on the opposite side to the boat yard you see here, but at the other end, near the Grand Canal). I recommend it highly.
I've visited Venice twice, each time only for 2 nights. Hope to go back one day. But if I ever make it from New Zealand back to Europe I feel I should visit Spain or Greece, I have never been to either place. But Italy is my favourite so who knows... Maybe a big trip to combine several places. I want to visit Sicily too. Too much to see in this world, especially when you live so far away from most of it!
yes! don't stay on the island. avoid staying on the island at all costs. find a place that is on the mainland, near the station. everything is upstairs and carrying luggage is hard around the island. walk across the bridge to the island and enjoy the sites. navigating the water transport is tricky, you will see more walking. be a ware that what looks like a path to someone's door is actually a street. be careful where you eat, they have city taxes just to sit down. they have 2 menu's , one for the locals and one for the tourists. if you are going to eat a restaurant, do your home work on the establishment. it is not a case of if you will get ripped off, you will! it is a case of how much. if you follow this advise, you will enjoy the visit.
@@ItalybyItalians I have been a few times, this was my experience, would I go back? undecided. but I will advise anyone who plans to visit Venice what to expect.
Treviso is a great spot near Venice with airport as well. You can find a great apartment like "palazzina trevigiana" or "chiarano home" near the train station and then go by to Venice easily because are only 25 minute of train. Treviso is a super cool city as well, so I think is the best way to visit 2 great city in one trip 🎉
My suggestion: Just walk. We came across a lot of the items in this video by accident :) Oh, and try cicchetti! The bar owners may not speak much English but they were still welcoming and helpful. Red wine, nibbles. Sunshine. Bliss! ☺
I'm sorry but we do not recommend restaurants nor hotels 😊 Burano is a must-see destination so I would prioritize it. Lido is maybe more authentic as it's where Venetians go to the beach so if you manage, I would suggest to stop there too.
Amazing video! Loved all the local tips. Quick question: what are other locations you can get the traghetto gondola other than the one at santa sofia? And are they all 2€? Thanks! Subscribed!
Thanks Michal, we are glad you liked it ✌️ The Gondola-Traghetto stops along all the "stazi" (piers) on the Grand Canal, which are: - Fondamenta S. Lucia - Stazione - San Marcuola - Fóndaco dei Turchi - San Samuele - Cà Rezzónico - Campo Santa Maria del Giglio - Salute - San Tomà - Santo Stefano - Rialto Mercato - Cà D'Oro (the one you see in our video) - Riva del Carbòn - Fondamente del Vin Each trip costs 2€. Don't hesitate to ask if you have other questions!

Ciao Didier, we are glad you liked it! 🥰
@@ItalybyItalians Grazie I visited Venetia once time a week-end but I never saw all the typical landmarks you showed in you video. Only 2 days is not enough ! Esatto ?

We are currently in Venice on holiday in DT Zaccaria. I couldn't be asked to do a whole circle around Venice to get to Murano do we walked to Celestia. It was really beautiful. TOP TIP for Navigation: Canals are very good because if you know roughly where you are then you can follow the canals and they all lead to the gran canal. Also in Lido the beach is partially private so keep Walking north
Great tips, thanks for sharing 😉
What a wonderful video! Thank you for doing this. I will be there in 2 months. Recommendations for a tour guide?

🇮🇹❤️💚 I can’t wait to visit Venice again, I was last there 25 years ago. I was a single girl who stayed in a dormitory in a convent for cheap. This time I’ll bring my husband and our 18 yr old daughter.
That's amazing 😍 we are really curious to hear from you what your trip to Venice will be like, and we hope that our tips will make it memorable ❤️
Have lived for venice for three years this video is really helpful. Am currently working on a book about Venice
Calle Varisco isn't the Narrowest street in Venice, Calle della Bessetta (near the station, santa croce side) is 10cm less and mabye more!!!!! Nice vid !!!!
Thank you for this! I definitely saved it to my playlist

Was there a few weeks ago, delighted to see St Mark's was dry this time every day! I stay at the Hotel Ala, because you can take a water taxi from the airport direct to the canal door in their lobby, much easier than dragging bags across bridges and plazas.
That's lovely! What was your favorite highlight of Venice? 😍
I hope so too❤
Splendide !

Hi! Amazing video, thank you! One question, what is the name of that restaurant in cannaregio where you ate cicchetti?
Hi Eri, I don't remember as we didn't try just one - to have a true Cicchetti experience you need to go from place to place, eating something in each one.
Wonderful video. Been to Venice several times but taking the whole family in May. We have some favorite restaurants and eating experiences but would like some recommendations that are not necessarily know by all. Thank you for this great video.
Have fun with your family! We don't usually recommend restaurants but I'm sure you'll find plenty of good options 😉
Pretty happy I did 10 out of the 13 all by myself! :)

@@ItalybyItalians to be honest, just walking the streets exploring was the best… turning a corner and finding a little bridge… following a path and unexpectedly cross the grand canal… I only wish my wife and kids could have been there with me… next time for sure
Great work, Venice is enchanting, it is a special memory when we visited a few years ago, hope to come back again and see some of it.
Thank you! What did you like most in Venice when you came?
And food
Thanks for sharing your favorite places 😊
Am from India, visited Venice twice but ur video is really helpful I want to buy some old and new murano glass artifacts
Can u give some information Am visiting Venice on 4th October
Great ideas for Venice! We are going this Summer. Do you have any recommendations for not so touristy towns on Lake Garda?
@@michaelkirkpatrick9522 ah it sounds so nice ❤️ we found a nice article that briefly describes the most recommended places to sleep on Lake Garda: it's in Italian, but if you could google translate it in English you may find the information you're looking for 🤗 www.pimpmytrip.it/dove-dormire-lago-di-garda/#lombardia
We have arrived today in Venice, one nights transit, from Sirmione on Lake Garda. Absolutely stunning. Everywhere is spotless. Fabulous food in restaurants on the waters edge. All the lockdown, I've been dreaming of returning to Venice, and now I've booked for November 26. I have seen almost all the items in this video, but had forgotten some, will enjoy returning. Does anybody know if there is still a Gregorian chant Mass on San Giorgio Maggiore on Sunday mornings?

hi for someone coming for a few hours a.k.a. day tripper, what are the best places tovisit so that the view of water streets and perhaps coffee tea by the café next to the water? Due to overcrowding, are there any places similar to this in Murano or Burano? Or for the first time visitor is the Venice msin island itself is a must see?
Wonderful video. Thanks for sharing Lots of great tips. We are going to Venice in 2 weeks for 3 days. Can`t wait. We were told to go to the area Dorsoduro to eat. The locals should be there We were told?
We are staying 3 whole days.
Thanks for your comment Simon! We hope you can travel again to Europe and to Italy to see as many places as possible ❤️🇮🇹

Great video. Visiting In April some great ideas
Thank you, we hope you'll have a great time in April ❤️ you can find more tips about Venice here ruclips.net/video/M5tpuDa94_M/видео.html
yes! don't stay on the island.
avoid staying on the island at all costs.
find a place that is on the mainland, near the station.
everything is upstairs and carrying luggage is hard around the island.
walk across the bridge to the island and enjoy the sites.
navigating the water transport is tricky, you will see more walking.
be a ware that what looks like a path to someone's door is actually a street.
be careful where you eat, they have city taxes just to sit down.
they have 2 menu's , one for the locals and one for the tourists.
if you are going to eat a restaurant, do your home work on the establishment.
it is not a case of if you will get ripped off, you will! it is a case of how much.
if you follow this advise, you will enjoy the visit.
@@bwana-ma-coo-bah425 We didn't say everything you wrote but I must say that you'really prepared about your trip to Venice 😁

We came across a lot of the items in this video by accident :)
Oh, and try cicchetti! The bar owners may not speak much English but they were still welcoming and helpful. Red wine, nibbles. Sunshine. Bliss! ☺

any good fish restaurants?
i will visit murano but because only for two days do you think it’s better to see also lido or burano?
I'm sorry but we do not recommend restaurants nor hotels 😊
Burano is a must-see destination so I would prioritize it. Lido is maybe more authentic as it's where Venetians go to the beach so if you manage, I would suggest to stop there too.
Amazing video! Loved all the local tips. Quick question: what are other locations you can get the traghetto gondola other than the one at santa sofia? And are they all 2€? Thanks! Subscribed!
Thanks Michal, we are glad you liked it ✌️
The Gondola-Traghetto stops along all the "stazi" (piers) on the Grand Canal, which are:
- Fondamenta S. Lucia - Stazione
- San Marcuola - Fóndaco dei Turchi
- San Samuele - Cà Rezzónico
- Campo Santa Maria del Giglio - Salute
- San Tomà - Santo Stefano
- Rialto Mercato - Cà D'Oro (the one you see in our video)
- Riva del Carbòn - Fondamente del Vin
Each trip costs 2€.
Don't hesitate to ask if you have other questions!
@@ItalybyItalians thank you so much! Waiting for more videos :)
I read somewhere that the gondola traghetto services are between 9am and 2pm only. Is this so?
This is a fantastic video! It will be my first time visiting Europe next year. ( not a big fan of flying). So I made notes of all these places. I love old buildings. This will be overwhelmingly beautiful. Thanks, from Florida.🌺

Hi thank you for such a great video, what would you recommend for a cheap way to see the colourful Burano please.

Another cheap option is the boat tour: here some additional information about it ruclips.net/video/M5tpuDa94_M/видео.html
