My favorite, non touristy place, is the Bardini Gardens in the Oltrarno. Exquisite gardens, magnificent views and a lovely cafe at the top to enjoy views of Florence.
Great tip, thanks!
wow Giulia, that was so informative and well presented, thank you!
Florence is magistic city ❤ full of memory historical and Beautiful arts.
Thank you for making this video!! Def. has helped me a lot more than all the other typical ones. I'll try and see all of this exceptional places during my visit
love all of Florence
A great video!! Florence is such a beautiful city, and so many great things to visit. I'm glad that you recommended the Basilica San Salvatore al Monte, and the Piazza de Michelangelo. It's a little bit of a hike up the hill, but it's has the best view of Florence. thank you.
Yes, I agree with you! Thank you, I'm glad you liked the video 😉
Yay, fun video! I'm always curious how locals in super touristy areas actually live, wish we could expand on that more.
omg this video is full of artsy vibes.I actually didn't plan to visit Florence at first, but after watching this video, I think I should add it to my travel plans! I think I'll go with the train because I'll have a friend to help me get cheap train tickets without having to go to the airport and wait for a long time in advance. I can't wait to go and relax❤
Train is a great option, I love travelling by train!
I love your content! OMG it must be hard to live in such a touristic city and try to run your day in the crowds. But hey Florence deserves it. Really on my bucket list! ❤
Well, there is one secret place a little bit outside of Florence: the little city called Fiesole! Go there! You really won't regret!
That's true, great suggestion!
Fiesole is even older than Firenze, was a major city of the Etruschi civilization, way before the Romans!
thanks for that recommendation, Alexander :)
Great video, thank you 😊
not really a secret and quite well known, but it is amazing to walk up there!
OMG... Finally another episode. Love you! :)
Yeees, we finally made it! And we'll shoot another one in Easter.
Love you too!
Thank you for this video. Having lived in Firenze for many years I was happy to see so many of my favorites. Of my favorites there is also the gallery at San Salvi. The Last Supper of Andrea del Sarto is spectacular!!
Thank you so much for this! These spots are all going on my list for the future one day... I especially love the Medici chapels with the marbles
Great, happy to have helped! I'm telling you: the Medici Chapels were amazing, it's a triumph of marbles... Amazing!
What an amazing video! Thank you so much for this beautiful tips :))
Love to visit and explore Florence once again...
I hope you will soon!
Adorooo, brava!!!
Congrats!, this is one of the best videos of Florence so far. I was there in 2017, and want to return asap.
Thank you very much Stuart! Hope you can come back soon 😉
Great video. I spent a month in Florence last April while my daughter was studying abroad there. I saw many of the things you listed but missed a couple, so I guess I'll have to come back. Oltrano was one of my favorite parts of the city and I personally would say that's the #1 hidden gem.
Wow one month, that must have been cool!
@@ItalybyItalians Yes, it was great, I rented an AirBNB apt near the Arno, it wasn't even that expensive!
Thanks for the great content.
WoooW! Thank you for believing in our project 😍
maravilhoso
Well done, another excellent video❤
Thanks John! Have you been to Florence? 😍
waw 👍👍👍
Vielen Dank!
indeed an excellent clip
Thank you very much! Where are you from?
Love your videos, great content. You enthusiasm is sincere and it shows in your videos. Thank you!
Thank you Leonard, you are super kind!
Many thanks for your donation, we really appreciate it 💙💙💙
Thakyou!!!
I loved this video. While I have seen a few of them on your list there were several I had not heard of. I can hardly wait to go back to Firenze!!!!
Hey Brenda, thanks a lot for your comment 🥰 what's your favourite one from the list?
Love your videos Such a great content. Thank You for sharing this amazing video
Thank you very much Ricky!
I'm so happy I found your channel! I'm going to Italy in September and your information are great for me to plan the trip thanks!!!
Awwww thanks! I'm very happy that my videos are actually helping 😁
So Beautiful video my dear sweet friend
Thanks ❤️
Great video. I love Florence.
Going there was a dream coming true. My favorite place is the Uffizi because I was (am?) obsessed with Botticelli’s paintings.
Thanks for sharing this beautiful footage.
Sending the best wishes from Brazil 🇧🇷.
Thank you and hugs from Italy!
And would you believe I stumbled upon a Botticelli: Virgin and Child in the Yale Gallery in New Haven, CT just last week. Never knew it existed.
@@ikmarchini
How interesting. This is such a coincidence. Yesterday I was reading about Botticelli on Wikipedia.
There is a list of his paintings and the one you mentioned (in the Yale Gallery) is not mentioned.
Thanks for answering my comment and sharing your experience. 😁😍
My pleasure. Discoveries like this are one of life's small delights.
Great video! Haven't been to Florence for a while but it's possibly my favourite city in Italy
Thank you! Yeah, Florence is great.
Yes, I agree with you
Thank you!
You made a very helpful video for my upcoming trip! Thanks for sharing things that aren't normally on the usual guidebooks. Love it!
Happy to have helped! Have a lovely trip 😉
Great Video, grazzie
My Grandma was named Florence lovely woman. I plan to visit here as it looks lovely. Great work
Cool, say hi to your grandma from me 😎
Great video. Missed a few of these gems when we were there recently but we will be back!
Thank you and I hope you'll visit again soon!
Ogni angolo, Firenze e toccante 💙❤️.
I feel vaguely proud. I’ve only been to Florence 3 times but the wine windows were the only surprise on the list!
That's very good Jody, well-done!
Thank you for this wonderful video. The San Lorenzo Complex is easy to miss, but an absolute must see. One of my favorite spots is the Basilica di Santa Croce which contains the tombs of many notable Italians from the Renaissance, including Michelangelo, Galileo and Machiavelli. The locking mechanism on the interior of the main doors is incredible. The adjacent gardens are lovely and a beautiful spot to escape from the hustle and bustle of the city. For the energetic, a stroll over to the Oltrarno and up to the Piazzale Michelangelo to watch the sunset with absolutely spectacular views of the entire city of Florence. NOTE to viewers: The "Old Bridge" is more commonly known as the Ponte Vecchio.
Thanks for your comment 🥰
is is for free or you need to book in advance?
@@lucias1276 It is not free and best to book in advance.
I have been to the city of Florence twice and I still wonder if Galileo's daughter really is buried with him. No guided tour has been able to answer or have knowledge of the conundrum. I'll be back.
@@hilton8830 I've never heard this rumor.
Very nice Tour and Travel tips, Giulia. In a nutshell: get off the beaten tracks and you will get a glimpse of the true Florence which I totally agree with. Sad to hear that Orsanmichele is now only available by guided tours - this is really my favourite Florentine church. Loved that place so much.
Greetings from DE
J.
Well said!
Yeah, it's too bad because if you cannot manage to organise in advance you cannot see it 😔
You seem like a person who has visited Florence multiple times, right? 😉
@@ItalybyItalians😀
We have been not only in Florence, but in Tuscany multiple times - this year will be our 20th visit in Tuscany (now near Mte. Amiata)
wooooow! Amazing! Tuscany doesn't have secrets for you anymore 😉
@@ItalybyItalians yes, that's really true, Giulia. But always a lot of surprises and experiences - especially in the very small towns!
More please! Check out Sansepolcro on the Umbrian border. Great place with a rich art history too. Piero della Francesca! The Resurrection fresco. Great story.
Yeah, you're right!
Another great story as the Allies were getting ready to bombard the town in WW2 when a Brit remembered that the Resurrection of Piero was there. He grabbed a kid and asked: Tedeschi?, and the kid said: Sono andati. (Germans? They left). And so one of the great artworks of history was saved by a ragazzino.
I really loved the video, thank you! Just one tip, it would be really helpful if you could show a map of the city with a location marker for each of these places, would help to picture how far these places are to each other and what order to visit them in 😉❤️
Soooo, do your own research...go into any maps app on your phone or computer and most of the major attractions will appear. The city is very walkable and all major sites are within a mile or less of each other.
@@JoyceB-qv9xq I came back from Florence a week ago and it was indeed very walkable. Steep hills though in some parts… it was a memorable experience
Bridge damaged by German soldiers…? 😂😂😂😂 poor knowledge
Thank you for info
You're welcome!
ciao! When I lived in Firenze my apartment was on Borgo Santa Croce just a few meters from the Basilica and Piazza Santa Croce. I really loved Florence and made some great friends in my neighborhood! I am back in the US right now but I am moving back to Italy in May! This time I will be living in Castellammare del Golfo, Sicily and I cannot wait! Grazie, paul
Wow Paul, that's great! It must have been amazing living in Florence city centre! Are you moving to Italy for work?
Sicily will be another great adventure, I'm sure of it!
@@ItalybyItalians No not for work. I am partially disabled because of a spinal cord injury. I will be in Sicily for 90 days then to Montenegro for 90 and then back to Sicily. I'll do this until I'm able to get an Elective Residency visa.
@@paulfreitag7772 oh wow, so you're thinking about moving definitely to Italy! Good luck for you Visa 🤞
@@ItalybyItalians Grazie mille!
I celebrated my 50th birthday in the city of Florence 5 years ago. Fantastic. Thanks you for the tips. As a dutch person living in Switzerland, it is now only 8 our drives instead of 16 ;) Lunga vita alla bellissima regione Toscana, culla del Rinascimento !
Hi Ronnie, that must have been a great birthday!
Exploit the close proximity you have to Italy now 😉
Florence is my favorite city in the world. It is so beautiful. I do remember strolling past the Orsanmichele Church 6:59 and being interested in the various sculptures in the facade. Our guide did not even mention it as we walked by.
I'm happy you like Firenze. I live here 😊 ^^
@@bohemian-girl We are returning as part of another cruise on August 2nd. We have tickets to see the Basilica Santa Croce and the Cathedral Santa Maria del Fiero.
@@TravelTodd I hope that you have a great time here in beautiful Firenze. I recommend visiting outside the city in the Tuscan countryside if you have time. Take some of the local food and some wine tasting. 🙂 ^^
edoardo's gelato next to the duomo, fantastico!!!!
I love your video!!!!!!
I have visited florence 6 times and I didnt know half of this places. Thank you for sharing.
I'm soooo glad you found this video useful, now you have to go back and visit again!
Thank you for the fantastic video, I’m excited to see that sunset!
We are glad you liked it 😀 are you coming to Italy any time soon? 🇮🇹

@PC Disciple that's fantastic! We are looking forward to hearing your experience in Italy 🥰
Ciao da Lucca! Primo... lampredotto. Just gross! Niente trippa per me, grazie.
La mia preferita a Firenze è la bistecca alla fiorentina. È così buona!
Thanks for another great video.. I'm going to make it a point to get wine from that little window!
Hahahahahahaha, well, as Italians say: i gusti son gusti!
Favorite corner fo Florence? Gelateria Vivoli, which I visit every day that it's open when I visit Florence. After Vivoli, it's a coin toss between San Marco and San Miniato.
Awesome video for those who want to see more than just what everyone else wants to see. My wife and I really enjoyed watching your video.
We will be in Florence next May for our Anniversary. How long does it take to get to Firenze from the cruise port? Looking forward to more of your amazing videos.
Hi Rod, thank you!
If you will be on a cruise you mean the port of Livorno, right?
Florence is about an hour from Livorno.
Have a great anniversary!
@@ItalybyItalians thank you for that. Yes we'll be on a cruise. While we're in Naples I'll be visiting family that I have never met before and looking forward to it. My great grandparents were from Calabria and my grandfather always wanted to go back home to visit his family but never got to. My wife and I will be doing that for him.
Thank you again. Looking forward to more of your wonderful videos.
@@rodperez417 that's a great trip, good for you! We have something in common: my origins lie in Calabria too 😉
Thank you very much for your videos. I will visit Florence for the first time next month, so your video is very useful.
I'm glad you found useful info, have fun in Florence!
Buongiorno, Giulia. Thank you showing us the lovely Italy cities. Your videos are nicely presented and edited, not too fast speed which sometimes can cause headache😂 I was wondering if you can slip some Italian words or conversations or even mini lessons a bit here and there. That might mean more work for you, I'm sorry🙏 Somehow, I think, it seems the language and the building/scenery go perfectly together. ❤😊
Hello and thank you for your compliments and suggestion 😉
At the moment I do not have the time for videos of Italian lessons unfortunately but I will take your suggestion into account and use a little bit of Italian when possible!
There's a video entirely shot in Italian/Apulian dialect on my channel, check it out: it's about my grandparents' life during WWII.
Good job
Thank you!
I loved it. Now I have a porpoise to visit Florence.
Great! Florence is waiting for you 😉
Just back from (Milano-ParmeBilognaFlorence-pise and Majore lake. The kindness and beauty of the Italians made my trip magnificent ❤

@@ItalybyItalians will have to return, as I missed Assise and will make another tout until Cicîie♥️
My favourite is the ancient pharmacy of Santa Maria Novella - I read about it in a novel, and it was described so impressively that I wanted to know if it really exists - I found it on my last visit to Florence and it is really amazing
I agree with you Gertrud, the pharmacy was impressive!
Oh, what novel?
The name of the novel is "Die Galerie der Düfte" by Julia Fischer, I think it doesn't exist in English
@@gertrudmerseburger-saeed8536 very cool. Thank you. If I ever learn a second language, I would like to read a good novel!

there is only one place in the world where everyday life is so completely reflected in the sublime, in a wonderful mix of nature and culture........it is Tuscany.

@@ItalybyItalians I went with my family in 2022 and planing to go back June 2024
Trippa!
Great video. I am almost ready to try Lampredotto after watching this. I wonder which Lampredotto stand you recommend.
Ponte Vecchio Bridge is my favorite. In the morning when all the people aren't there yet.
Thanks a lot for this Giulia! I will soon be visiting Florence and will surely look into your recommendations. As a historian, I am also very interested in the Medici Family and will surely visit Palazzo Medici and 'Villa Medicea di Careggi' where Lorenzo de Medici was born and also had died. Best regards from Malta!
Well Christopher, we have a passion in common: history 😉
Hi, Christopher. Then you HAVE to visit the Palazzo Vecchio! It‘s really stunning and full of the family history. I recommend to you the Medici chapel in San Lorenzo as well. Have fun, it‘s a fantastic place full of history and art.

Another underrated location is the Florence Synagogue/jewish museum. Its the largest synagogue in Italy and has a lot of interesting history and artifacts.
Birthplace of the Renaissance and more. Florence is very important.
Lampredotto was amazing. I still have fond daydreams about that sandwich
Hahahahahaha so you agree with Florentines then!
Nice hi from lreland 😊
Hi Victoria, kisses from Italy 💋💋
Behind the Uffizi there's an olive tree in honour of those killed in the act which is not spoken, the terrorist strike om the Uffizi. There's also a golden statue on the adjacent building.
Truely enchanting.
Have you been?
how do you know how much is the glass of wine at the little windows ?
Thank You for this video! Headed to Florence soon. Staying at hotel grand Minerva. Is that where you are standing at the beginning of this video? Gratzie
Hi, thank you! At the beginning of the video I was in front of Santa Maria Novella Church 😉
Have a great trip! How long will you be staying?
Going in October. Are there any marketplaces in Florence that include local painters’ artwork? Thank you.
I love Fiesole, although it is not unknown to Italians, historians, academics, or authors, as it predates Florence by about a thousand years. And one caveat when catching the number 7 bus, ALWAYS validate you ticket, and always watch for pickpockets clocking the tourists. I've seen so many people shocked by having their pocketbooks and wallets disappear, and seen tourists with unvalidated tickets in their hands being fined (and/or arrested!) by perfectly multilingual transit inspectors. Claiming ignorance of the law and language is never an excuse.
Thanks Marguerite! ❤️
Thank you! I'm adding Cappelle Medicee to my itinerary but where to buy online ticket? The "official" website listed on google maps failed to load....

I always confuse Botticelli and Bruneleschi 😅😅😅
by the way, i'm going to Italy in June, so i'll re-watch all videos in your channel, Giulia, it's exactly what i need as a poor backpacker hehe.
Hahahaha so many Italian artists, it's easy to be confused 🤣
So cool, I'm glad you'll backpack though Italy! Do you have any ideas of where you want to stop?
@@ItalybyItalians I wanted to stop in many places, but due budget and time limitation, i had to choose: Roma, Firenze, Venezia, Milano and Torino.
Since i'm relying on cheap hostels availability and train/bus routes, visiting other places would be impossible right now. But i'd looooove to visit Bologna, Aosta, Matera, Napoli, Perugia, Palermo, etc... But hey, i'm trying to look on the bright side, at least i'm finally fulfilling the lifelong dream of visit Italy. Hello! New sub here…I have up coming trip to 🇮🇹 , all hidden 💎 places you mentioned are FREE ENTRANCE no need to buy and book for appointments to go inside. Hoping for your reply. My last visit in Schengen was 20yrs ago:)
Hi welcome to our channel! Yes, what you see in this video is all free entrance apart from the Medici Chapels, the cost is about 10€ but it's totally worth it! In the description of the video above you can find the link to buy tickets.
Have a wonderful trip!
🙏so much…pls give an advice what type of train ticket I will buy from Paris to Italy, we will stay in Italy for 3N4D, Florence, Rome, Naples.
There are two places you didb't mention that are secrets in Firenze, the Vasari Corridor and the Cenacolo di San Salvi.
This latter is the more important one.
In Florence now (April 2023). City streets are crowded, and galleries (like the Uffizi) are crowded, hot, and stale....with all the artwork coved by thick layers of plastic. Almafi coast traffic bumper to bumper - due to buses taking both lanes on curves and cars inexplicably allowed to park on the side of the road blocking one of the lanes. (Again, this is in the off season) Italy has turned into a tourist trap, and the locals do not like you being here (unless you are a potential customer). Good luck coming here this summer! ;)
Actually, I'm sorry to disappoint you but April is already considered high season here in Italy! (High season always starts with Easter).
I'm sorry you had a bad experience but I'm sure many Italians are happy to welcome you here 😉
And well... It's not a secret that Italy has many tourists, luckily it's a beautiful place, you have to find your ways to get away from the crowds!
Have a nice holiday 👋👋
The plastic/glass covers are absolutely needed to protect the priceless art from crazies who can cause huge damage. Only less than a year ago, two youth glued their hands, fortunately only to the protective piece, of one of the Boticelli paintings.
Italian Blood MUST MARRY Italian Blood.
Keeping our heritage 100% pure Italian.
I love being ITALIAN.
