Don Quixote is one of Marius Petipa's much-loved 19th-century classics - its story is drawn from Miguel de Cervantes's classic novel and set to Ludwig Minkus's score. The ballet has long been acclaimed for its virtuoso dancing, beautiful and technically demanding 'vision scene' and the famously bravura and breath-taking Act III pas de deux.
Carlos Acosta's production was created for The Royal Ballet in 2013, and brings the sunshine of Spain and the exuberance of the entire Company to the stage. Acosta created new choreography for the gypsy scene in Act II, and uniquely for this production of Don Quixote added on-stage musicians. Warmth, charm and entertainment abound in this energetic and witty ballet, reflected too in the characterful backdrops of Tim Hatley's vibrant designs.

I love how Akane brings a different dynamic to Kitri. We all know Kitri to be a vibrant, fierce and bold character. Akane has brought a more calmer, softer and almost teasing Kitri. I love the usual portrayal of Kitri but I also actually enjoy the softer side that Akane has brought.
Although I think Akane is an amazing dancer I have to disagree. Kitri is, and always will be a fiery, out-of-control teenager and although I think Akane's technique is a 10/10 I also think she needs to work on character
All personal opinion, needless to same Akane did amazing
Every one has their own character but Akanes techniques and balance is what gave it away the performance was amazing

Huh, I actually really like her in that role, it's a bit of a refreshing change from the usual casting of Kitri. And Akane Takada's technique is flawless. I personally also really enjoy her cheeky smile and the outstanding pointe work ♥️

She danced gorgeously! I cannot help but notice the man screaming "YEEEAAAHHHHHHH" during the applause at the end. A true enthusiastic hero.

Akane Takada is a joy to watch live at the ROH; she may not conform to the stereotype of the role, but her artistry is breathtaking and my family seeks out performances that include her. I am flying back early from a business trip in the USA ,so that I will not miss her performing this role.

She's got such talent as a ballerina. I am amazed at her skills. My mother was a ballerina herself a long time ago, and she's in awe at how great of a dancer Akane is. I have never watched a performance with her, but I hope to one day. I think that the Royal Ballet films their performances and sells them as a DVD, maybe I can find one of her performances that way.

Technically she is faultless Jut needs to grow in the role of Kitri as early days for her with the right coach preferably someone already well versed in the role Nunez Harvey or the such like
She reminds me of the ballerina I had in my music box as a child. So elegant, graceful, strong. She is a wonderful dancer.

I love the hand movements this dancer does just as much as the foot work. The little way she claps the fan into her hand brings me joy.
Her technique is so good! Especially her jumps and échappé!

how is no one talking about her roll-through? and those flying saut de chats? that's what makes her performance so special and satisfying to watch! you don't see any other ballerina roll through her shoes so satisfyingly, smoothly, and with no wobble like akane does. and how she seems to freeze midair in her saut de chats is absolutely gorgeous; to me, it's much more pretty to have that freeze moment in the leaps than to have a wobbly oversplit saut de chat. akane is wonderful!

I honestly don't know how some people commenting can be so negative! I went to the cinema screening last week and I thought the entire production was outstanding. My 82 year old grandmother (an ex- ballet dancer) told me she thought it was one of the most beautiful ballets she has ever watched. (High praise as she has seen countless!). This is supposed to be a ballet of pure fun and enjoyment and some of you critics need to lighten up!

I love this variation so much of being pretty simple but powerful, elegant and impressive.

そう!こんなに足先に目を奪われるダンサーに出会ったことないわ。高田さんは10台の頃見て、ただならない雰囲気で、これは絶対絶対トップへいく人だなと思った。あの頃と雰囲気はガラリと変わったけど、ご活躍うれしい限りです。彼女のような個性もまた良いねとロイヤルのファンに思ってもらえると良いなと思います。
完璧でポジションも正確だけど、キトリに見えないですね。表情が豊かになると良いですかね。

I’d love to see Akane perform this with Marianela Núñez. They both are excellent dancers and bring so many amazing, yet different, things to the Kitri role and both are beautiful! This is by far my favorite variation in general and that each of them perform! Much love to both💛💛

So impressed! Go on Akane-chan. Some people who don't know anything about what the ballet is and what a real hard work is would talk stupid behind you, but ignore them and believe what you believe is right. I love your Kitri so much!
I think that’s the most beautiful use of the fan I’ve seen by a ballerina in this solo.

Her technique and lines gorgeous, but she needs to work more on character. Her acting is more suited to the very innocent ingenue than the fiery Kitri. The choice to put her in a white costume instead of red also doesn't express the character so well.
Agreed. Asian girls have different skin tones and red is their color.

Just because Akane is Japanese doesn't make her any less pretty in white, and she certainly shouldn't be dressed differently to other dancers just because of her race! Please consider what you're saying before you generalize millions of girls and women who definitely look beautiful in whatever color they might be wearing. :) (also "Asian girls" include people of all different skin tones and nationalities, not just paler skinned East/Southeast Asian ppl, thx)
I believe Kitri always wears white in her wedding scene when the whole ballet is being staged, and dresses in red when the pas or variation in being performed outside of the story context, like in a gala or a competition
@@whatkindofnameisella682 exacty . You just have to find the fitting tone of white but this applies to everyone in the world
But there is no one way to play Kitri. Akane's take on the character subtly combines cheeky, passionate, and tender qualities, as opposed to the more full-on exuberance and fun displayed by Nunez, for example. It is good to allow different interpretations from different casts. And as pointed out by others the white costume in Act 3 represents her wedding dress and she suits it perfectly in my view.
I personally really love her Kitri. Usually, Kitri gives me the impression of a young, bubbly, extroverted girl who doesn't quite know what's happening and just enjoys wherever life takes her. Akane's Kitri, on the other hand, is much more mature, she knows about the difficulties of life. However, she also knows about her appeal to men and she decides to actively have fun with this, flirting and enjoying her youth and freedom.
I think that both interpretations of Kitri fit the choreography, the music etc. equally well and I love both of them.
Совсем нет образа Китри. Есть только чистое, но бездушное исполнение движений и техники. Поменяй пачку и не поймешь, кого она исполняла, тк это точно не Китри и не испанка.

She is literally gorgeous. A lot of people are saying they like Kitri this way, not the fierce and fiery one, but personally, since act 1 from Kitri is extremely fiery and dynamic, I think act 3 should also be similar. Also, I think Akane would absolutely would gorgeous in Aurora sleeping beauty act 3.

Yes she was trained in Bolshoi Academy as well from 2006 to 2008 :D

Fabulous!!! And I'm so happy to see the lovely Pas de Chevals!! I have been down the rabbit hole tonight, going through clips of Kitris Act III variation, trying to find them! I remember learning them in Pointe class when I was a kid, and our teacher putting on this music and showing us this variation... Thank you!

私は高田さんの繊細で端正でちょっと陰影のある感じのキトリ、好きだわ。ちょっと影のある色気というか。

なら見あきてますが。あと、東洋人＝テクニックはあるけど、みたいなのもね。ステレオタイプな感想ですこと。
同感です。それもAsianという括りが不思議です。だってAsianであっても、この国際時代ではひとくくりには出来ないですから。例えば、私の親戚はCanadianとGerman、JapaneseとNative Americanの4つが混ざってある意味、無国籍な風貌で誰も｢~人｣だとは当てられないです。確かに国籍はCanadianですが。もう国籍や生まれた国で、characteristicやskin toneを区別するのは、非常にbackwardで古くさい言い分かなと思います。また私の姪の親友はhalf Japanese and half Tanzanianで、国籍は日本人です。(お父様も現在日本国籍取得したから)だけど、浮世絵で見る｢日本人｣とも違えば、タンザニア人から見ると平均的なタンザニア人でもないと言われ、だからAsianといわれても、みんなそれぞれ違うというわけです。

So simple - if only the Fan is not so extra ordinary called huge like this.
Hold the Fan with on to your favourite hand (my hand as were to the right hand). Drop Fan. See if the fan automatically opens. If not , close fan from the little Finger (which with the enourmous fan might be heavier to do with it), tip to the downside of the fan.
Remember the steady side of the fan are like "knifes".
Let the fan run between you're fingers and also in rehearsals allow a fan to make part of your body.
Close the fan from your last finger, the smallest finger, unless you're allowed a Ring.
When your allowed a Ring, close fan from thumb and your ring finger.
Use "ugly" middle- finger for conduction, but only when you close the fan.
Fans are like knives - they do not make a sword or dagger but must be wearn under control and tell their own language.

@@stqrltt most important thing of course, when holding out a fan out, is - the thumb. It is a part of the hand wich has the strongest craft, even it's going out very strong over your ellbows, and sometimes people like to call it "stumb" or "stupid finger". It is one part of your ellbow and same as work like all to the other fingers.

Doing the movements is hard enough, but managing the fan at the same time? I can barely open and close one with 2 hands and feet and she’s over here doing ecchapes and attitudes and turns while opening and closing it 😮 fantastic job!
