      So how would that actually work? Gelding for just crimes of a sexual nature? Orrr … gelding as the penalty for EVERYTHING; just vary the likelihood of it being carried out according to the severity of the infraction? Or maybe adjust the anaesthetic dose?

      The reason why we don't have it is because it's a crime against human rights to do so.
      And such violations if caused injury can get you a $10,000.00 USD fine, and/or a decade in a federal prison.

Darrin looking away and squeezing his legs shut is a good indicator he may know to keep away when mom has the banding tool! Very informative Crystal. Thanks. Had to show my elderly mom Derek's bug control and it gave her a good hardy laugh. Blessings

    Lol, my hubby refused to help with the banding when we first started. 😂 Eventually he got past his squeamishness but he still cringes a little every time.
    Excellent demonstration Crystal, my vet was the one who first showed me how to do it. I’ve castrated pigs and I’ve got to say, I infinitely prefer banding to actual surgery. Unfortunately there’s some people out there that don’t understand the realities of farming and animal husbandry, but I hope this video and others like it out there perhaps help to lay to rest some of the misconceptions surrounding wethering a goat.
    Kudos to your awesome helper as well ❤️

      Blue Cactus Dairy Goats I honestly dread it every year. If we can, I get help with it from our vet...but this year I had no choice but to do it myself as she wasn’t able to come out due to the c19 restrictions, plus I’m having to stay isolated myself due to a iffy immune system due to a genetic disease. When compared to banding, it’s like night and day. Not at all the same experience, that’s for sure. Luckily I’ve gotten so I’m as quick as I can safely be with it, and the numbing topical spray my vet suggested I use seems to help the little guys quite a bit. I truly hate to cause anything pain, and It’s pretty scary the first time - but I have absolutely no doubt you will manage it without issues - it’s just a matter of knowing it’s got to be done, and you clearly have that same approach to reality that’s needed for it. 😉❤️
      (That said, if you can? Get either your vet or someone with lots of experience to show you how and then walk you step by step through how to do it when it comes time. I always find it easier to do when someone I trust is nearby to help if needed).

    The best lesson on band castration on RUclips. Simple, thorough step by step instructions how to do it properly, testicle drop time, what "things" look like afterwards, etc. It ain't rocket science, but nobody else has videos describing the process better than you.👍👍

    It's so much more difficult with calves. I call it extreme fishing with a lasso. Bless you for getting personal with them. Also dont forget that you can only do this at a certain age. It can kill them if you dont get them at a certain age.

    In Australia that's called an Elastrator and the band's are called rings. I always mark with the elastrator held with the prongs facing towards me, easier to get off. Never bothered with cleaning the area, when you mark 1000 lambs you don't get time 😂😂😂

    • @MBear3
      @MBear3 4 года назад +2

      My agriculture class (about 5 of us) only had to do 250 lambs. The idea of doing a thousand makes my hand cramp. The guys cringed away from the testicle removal so us girls took over most of that.

    Dude #2 said " No I'm Not!!" Loud n clear!!! ROTF!! LMFBO!! I have only been through 1 its uncomfortable for sure but they do get over it. I would still like to learn more about the Burdizzo method. I am guessing the wethers that can be shown are not supposed to have dried sacs. LOL.

    My husband is super anti castration, but we have to figure out what we are going to do properly with our buckling. He's our first and I think we are keeping him, I want to use a wether as a cart goat and train him properly. I think if I did it the way you do here, he wouldnt be bothered. I think it's just testicle sympathy.

    Your son looked a bit worried, i use those bands which are called elastrator bands and the tool is a elastrator we use exactly the same here in the uk for tail docking lambs and castrating bull calves
