I have also heard of heating the band in order to get the most stretch out of it just prior to banding. For those of us with a bit less strength, that was a great tip.

Yikes. Animal husbandry is no joke. I guess the subject matter hits close to home for the fellas. You're good with them. A balanced leader. Good series you guys have put together. Nicely done. It shows in your adult goats that you have a good comprehensive program.

Thank you Mark for this very thorough video and the follow up video on how to remove testicles once they are ready to be cut off. I wonder if flower essence would help calm or take away pain. Certainly helped the big cats as far as calming goes. Thanks for showing which and how the tools needed for the job are used.

I don't know if you have the time to answer questions but I'm wondering what are the pros/cons of the California Band versus a typical castration? I love your channel and also your awesome logo on your new merchandise.

My experience, not from goats but from calves:
Advantage is zero pain (with no oxygen the nerves go to sleep: he won't feel anything which is why he's walking funny, not from pain); negative is the chance of necrosis. And you still have to deal with the dried dead flesh afterwards
With the traditional method they suffer the pain of the cut, and chronic pain for a couple days afterwards (for which they're given an injection of painkiller: the pain is not what you'd imagine, it doesn't slow them down much), but then it's done, there's no fussing around afterwards.

I did a couple yearlings bucks a few days ago. For the first ten minutes afterward, they seemed okay, then they laid down and acted like they were in quite a bit of pain until it went numb. I think it goes numb faster with the California bander but it can be a bit hard on mature bucks.

I don't know if this is a joke, but since there are people who do, I'm going to tell you that if you're seriously considering this you need to find a doctor to help you with this: DO NOT attempt it yourself, as if it's done improperly you can die a very terrible death.
