You've seen FFVII Rebirth right? THAT game has impressive graphics for 2024, way beyond anything we see here!! These upgrades to FFXIV are minor QOL graphical improvements, nothing more.
So what's going on here exactly? Why do MMO players suddenly care so much about graphics when XIV is sooooooooooo much more than visuals?
@@3mileisland516 I think some of the changes are far from minor, particularly the skin, hair, and eyes, which will make my WoL even nicer looking than ever. The ground textures look better... better grass and environment interactions. But... my guess? Some people care about visuals. There are those types who are more visually attuned or whatever and any glow up is better than no glow up, so they are over the moon. There are people out there who are heavy into visual mods as well (I've got a few friends in game who I know run visual mods), and this will be a nice upgrade for them too. The gposers and socialites will like the upgrade as well, I'm guessing. It does make the game look better, which might draw certain people put off by older visuals. Others, like me, might not be so much into visuals, but appreciate the work that's gone into it and want to be positive. I know that I don't want my only responses to CBU3 to just be "fix this" "fix that", so I'm showering praise, where praise is due.

@@3mileisland516MMOs by their very nature have worse graphics than any single player game. And that will be that way until the end of time. Having to run entirely online, show many players at once.
For an MMO, these new graphics updates are really nice. I mean, WoW basically looks like a first gen Xbox game.

Did the test with my 2016 gaming pc. Im happy that it can still run the game. Everytime this happens i always say "Please pc one more expansion,let me enjoy my moments".
What graphics card do you have in yours? I have a 1060 6GB and I’m a bit worried lol.

The great thing about this update they did a lot to keep the specs from going to high cause it’ll cause issues for ps4 so your good I ran this benchmark and it ran better then my base

The Female Hrothgar face we didn't see (Number 2) is very cute, I had fun making mine, my PC scored High despite having old parts, can't wait. Voice 4, 8, 9, and 11 are the winners for me. I chose 11, but they all have great sounds for the emotes, while the other voices are kinda weak on the emotes.
I REALLY like how Female Hrothgar emotes turned out, especially that feral like scratch emote. So good. Very excited for this expansion, I can't wait!
That performance Score feels like the "Swift Completion" Bonus in Dungeons. I had like half your score and it still called it "high" xD

The thing I looked forward to the most was the ability to get some sneak peaks at Viper weapons
I've ran it so far twice w. Metian set and Moonward set and gotta say, I like the new swords so far
finally I can see how lip color looks with better graphics and it was better then I thought.
what I hate about the old lip color is that it looks good only 60% of times other times the light is reflected on the lips in a way that it's a different color entirely
but now it's so much better not too much shine on them which is what I want. still I need to see how it would look like in PS5
I spend hours with the benchmark now. And i already maked my fem horthgar and other characters. The graphical update is AMAZING! And watchin our own character in the benchmark trailer is so epic too!

Thanks for showing the Benchmark. There is one thing I noticed when going not the village as it is loading up. The art reminds me of the Village of Dali from Final Fantasy with a basalt mount that looks like the Devils Tower in Wyoming with in the United States.
Female Hrothgar here we come, I have a fanta saved on my alt ready for it ! I just finished customizing a Helion and Lost version for launch. I am in love with their design. I wish their was a muscle slider like their is with Roe's and Highlander's but it's cool to see they naturally have abs lol

I'm so confused, I want to test the benchmark so badly, but for some reason it's not giving me the option to load my character data from FFXIV? ;-;
Edit: figured out what happened. I changed the file location for the game, but it doesn’t take saved appearance data with it, lol. Just had to right click my character on login to re-save it.

well without changing anything other than the screen resolution to 5120x1440 and windowed borderless I came out with 10189, the benchmark ran pretty smooth all the way through with no stuttering or tearing. I will play with the settings and see if I can get it higher :)
Good to see performance scales appropriately without any major issues between hardware, which I didn't expect to happen, but you never know with a graphics update changing a lot behind the scenes. I've got basically your setup, except a 4080 instead of 4090 (The GPU I might be able to afford, but not the power bill for multiple years!) and got 32234, which is almost shockingly close to exactly 2,222 points less than yours, 12 points off! Or about 6.4% difference between our systems. Actually a smaller gap than it should be, but nothing out of the ordinary, as it varies from game to game. Weird running at 1080p for the benchmark, but had to match the settings, haha.
I really hope our character starts using many more animations.

The start of the Dungeon battle song in the mountains sounds so much like FFX.

Depending upon the results, the ending shot changes. The better your results, the more characters, including new minions (alpaca, Manatee, Bird)
Meoni looks great! I like how they smoothed out the face. I am disappointed they didn't smooth out the rest of the body.
One of my complaints was the hexagonal-shaped legs. Hopefully, they'll fix that eventually, but we're off to a good start.
so when i boot up the character creation the window is like...5 times the size of my screen, ALT Enter doesnt put it in full screen. When i click the settings on the launcher i cant move it and i dont see the tabs at the top.
EDIT: the benchmark test also is in the same massive window size
I was really expecting to fail but with my current settings I passed with a "Standard" score of 5689. Super low compared to everyone else I've seen hitting 5 digits, but I'm just happy I can still play the game with the below minimal requirements. For giggles ran with Maximum settings and though I was still able to get a 3200ish score, it wasn't a complete fail as it told me "Slightly Slow". I run on a i7-7600T with a GTX 960 which is below the minimum requirements given for Dawntrail.

Why is no one talking about the fact that Viper got Omega weapons..? Like you wouldn't expect Viper to get level 70 raid weapons. Eden weapons sure, but the way the cycle goes Endwalker jobs would have been the last to receive Omega weapons. Does that mean they are also going to get TOP weapons as well?
I think it's a similar case to the ShB/EW jobs getting Thordan weapons from DSR, they probably made the VIP/PIC weapons for TOP first, then just un-raid-effected them and made them O9-12-style.
Viper is looking like it may become my new main job after seeing more of it. I have been a MCH main since 3.0 due to no new job interesting me.
I have been looking for a more Assassin job style for a long time. Ninja fell out for me because they slowly removed everything Assassin job theme overtime because they wanted it more focus on Ninjutsu attacks.
I’m a little bit worried that my old PC just can’t handle the benchmark. Guess I’ll find out. 🤣 I did plan to upgrade to a better PC but no budget at this time. 😆 Thank you Meoni! 👍

I target 4k100 with a 3080.
I still see drops to the 80s in later game area's like elpis. So seeing a 4090 hit kid 100s at 1080p in combat makes me nervous lol
@@nighttimestalker Do not worry about the graphic card, it was a CPU bottleneck. At 4K my 4090 does not go below the 100s and go as high as the 250s

I'm running a i5-8600k w/ RX 6900 XT on a Odyssey G9 (5120 X 1440) and scored on Maximum a 10590(High).
This was the third test after starting on Standard(Desktop) to High(Desktop) then Maximum so I can't say this was a true warm-up but I am SLIGHTLY satisfied with what I got. There was a bit micro stuttering and frame tearing but over nothing I haven't experienced before.
I say "slightly" because while I am glad I know my PC could handle the next expansion, that urge to get a better score is there however I am caught in a dilemma...
Do I upgrade to what my motherboard can handle while knowing I'll have to build a new system since it probably won't pass the Windows 11 requirements or Do I build a new system(new MB, CPU, RAM)?
Is there a way to put my character/avatar in the benchmark?
Late question out of curiosity, but can you do this on ps5?
The amount of details the graphical update has added is quite impressive. More than I had expected.
I have major complaint though, which is that face 6 female midlander have way too thick eyeliners. My girl looks like she's going through a goth phase with that look, and I can't do anything about it. Hopefully they dial that back a bit for the release.

I'm using a 4060 Ti and a i5-13400F and I get a score of 11070 (pretty bad), but I also only run 1280x720 and can't for some reason set the resolution higher even if I use maximum settings and set resolution to my native res of 2560x1440. Why can't I raise it?
can run it perfectly @ 3840x1600 so happy I'll not need to turn settings down my AU RA looks so good
Is there a way to run the benchmark on console or is that pc only? If it’s the latter that’s disappointing since my laptop chugged on the last benchmark. I’m a PS5 player anyway
Only PC. Benchmarks have no practical use on consoles since they are optimised to run on settings predetermined by the devs

i9-12900K, 3080 Ti, 3840x2160 DLSS, max settings 12742 - very high. Got my GPU right when it launched, close to the end of the GPU shortage era, so I won't be upgrading until 5XXX launches at least, certainly not to eke out an extremely high versus a very high rating. I was glad to see how nicely rendered all the faces looked!
I've downloaded it, tried it, watched the benchmark preview a couple of times.
I like what I'm seeing so far. The events that they're showing remind me of the Nadaam from Stormblood. Which I am not against.
If the next expansion is at least on the level of Stormblood, I'll be happy. Let them cook.

10266, curiously it was 8k on with the sync fps option on and motion blur on. Shut those two off and worked fine.

one thing to note, if you have FF14 capped to 60fps via your graphics card control panel (cloth physics flap harder over 60fps) it will also apply to the benchmark. with maxed settings i went from 8000 score with high to almost 21200 at extremely high at 1440p borderless after removing the frame cap from my 144 fps monitor.
the graphics update looks fantastic but i have to admit i'm a little disappointed seeing my bun-girl in the new graphics because of the hair/ears and her lips... to clarify, it seems with dark hair there is a noticeable difference between the hair and ears even though they're meant to be the same color (my ears are a plain flat black whereas my hair has a slight blue tint to it)... and as for the lips (iirc i'm using face 4), her upper lip is a completely difference shape to what it is now, and i'm not sure why the change was made (and i prefer the current version). *shrug*
outside of that, omg, so hyped for DT (and my viper is def gonna be rocking the clive outfit for quite a while me thinks haha)... june/july can't come soon enough! :D
oh, i was so distracted by the issue i had with the hair/ears and lips, i totally missed the fact that her forehead gem is now shinyyyyyyy :D

Trial accounts can only be played on the device they were registered iirc. If you want to move your account details to PC, you'll need to buy the base game for PC first -- It'd be easier to just recreate your wol by hand on the benchmark 😊

What score did you get at your real resolution?
I have nearly his same rig except a 4080 instead of a 4090, and I got about 24,000 at 3440 x 1440. He plays at 2560 x 1440, accounting for that resolution difference and the power difference between cards, I'd estimate he'd be at 27,000-31,000.

What makes me laugh is your score when the title screen is shown at the start, is already higher than my score at the end :P I got about 4385, and you got that score in about 10 seconds XD

I scored 20430 on 2560x1440 (Maximum) with an average frame rate of 144. I must say the game looked stunning.
I can't download the benchmark. It always fails at 10%. I guess my computer is too old. :(

@@zairman Ran it 4 times with 4 differents characters, got 17000+ each times. I have 30Gb of RAM and used a SSD, maybe it is the difference ?

The update is AMAZING. Everything looks so good. However, I went from absolutely loving lalafell to fearing them x) They look TERRIFYING to me lol. Im so glad I will get a free fantasia :c They make me feel like my sleep paralysis demon is watching me through the pc screen.
I only got half your score (17588), but it's still "extremely high" performance. My bottle neck is my CPU (i5) since I've recently upgraded my GPU from RTX 2060 to 4060 -- I'm planning to upgrade to an i7 before the launch. The graphics is really pretty and the RUclips video doesn't do it justice.
RUclips video is defaulted at 480px of course it looks bad. You need to change the quality setting to higher to see how it looks exactly like on game.
@@k.vn.k It's not just the resolution. Even if the video is at 1080, it's not even close to what I'm seeing from the benchmark on my computer.
The CPU is pretty much going to be the bottleneck unless your GPU is a turd. This game is extremely well optimized for GPU. You want a CPU with as much IPS (instructions per second) as possible. Don't fall into the trap of getting a CPU with a ton of cores, it will not help you. a 6 or 8 core CPU will do you just fine.
Check passmark's single thread CPU benchmark list to find a CPU that runs well for gaming.
@@JathraDH Yeah, I'm not into that "tons of cores" CPU, I think that's a fad. I did my research and I found that the 8-core i7-11700K is the one that will work well with my RTX 4060.
@@EnzoVinZ Sounds good. High core CPU's absolutely have a use, just not for gaming really. They are good for video encoding, and other work related tasks for sure, but just don't benefit games that much.
Oh no bottlenecked with 4090, how can we survive that :P

Your pc scored higher in the first minute then mine did on the whole test, and I still still scored high lol

Scales and details on Au Ra looks amazing, eyes too no more dead fish eyes
they exagerated a bit with the minimum specs, i run a pc with lower specs and on high (desktop) rated 9k, on standard desktop rated 12k
Benchmark can be bugged. If you get screen tearing in full screen mode, try it in windowed or borderless windowed. More than doubled my wifes score.
I got extremely high and I didn't even hit 20k lol, Meoni's streaming pc may be overkill for this

Saddly I'm a ps5 player and my PC is truly terrible so I'm pretty sure it can't handle the newer graphics (it lag so much on current so im not even gunna bother) so ill have to wait and see my character in the new style haha
I'm worried about my score at 12500 at my settings and 4K. In the EW benchmark i got 25000+. So now i worry i can't play at the settings i have and get 120fps at 4K without swapping out my 1 year old RX6900XT for the 7900XT/XYX :/ and i cannot afford that now :/
So my enthusiasm for Dawntrail has taken a big hit :/
You bought a 4k 120hz monitor my dude. That is 8x the requirements of 1080p 60hz. You are out of the range of slacking on PC components. There is DLSS/FSR though so you can use that if needed.
@@JathraDHis not a monitor, but a 65 inch Sony oled tv xD. Pc monitors imo are not good for colour accuracy
@@ChandaniAranka Just get an IPS and you will have much better color accuracy than most TVs TBH. There is a reason artists use IPS monitors and not TV's for their work. OLED is probably going to be pretty good though either way.
At any rate you bought into big boy hardware territory with that TV so you should expect to have to pony up for a proper GPU if you want to hit 120 FPS on stuff. I personally would not try to run 4k/120 on anything less than a 4090.
5120x1440 @ max is yielding 16214. Good ol' 6900xt.

You know, I don't like Sword Art Online, but did anyone notice the similarity at the end with the boss fight? lol
The performance isn't the best on slightly older PC. At max settings I was getting a third of the rating that I had gotten in previous expansions. At high(desktop) it was about half of my previous settings.
I basically have my current settings at a slightly modified max as I do not like anti-aliasing and motion blur much.
Others might have to expect a big hit in performance as well.
My main conclusion is that unless you are upgrading already you won't see a big improvement because you'll be turning down the graphics to get better performance out of the game. I know I will be.
Someone on a lower end PC or laptop will probably be turning a lot of the options off for the graphical update. Which leaves them with only a small upgrade to how the game will look overall.
