Someone was trading in a never used Colt Competition Series 1911 in 9mm and stainless with blue grips, at the gun shop today. They offered him a low ball price and we got to talking. I made the purchase in the parking lot with him for $800. A truly beautiful gun.
I've been eyeing up a Colt 1911 for the last 2 years and fully pulled the trigger (no pun) on this exact piece. Absolutely love the look and feel- Going to the range to test it out this weekend.
I’ve got one, if you put it together that way again put the spring in the guide rod and let them hang out the front, it will keep the guide rod in place. But I agree doing it the other way is faster
I've got the 45acp competition 70 series, the 9mm rail gun and the 70 series gold cup trophy and they all have the dual recoil spring setup, they all shoot amazing and the only thing that the rail gun needs is the same fiber optic front sight and the blue g10s to be perfect
Good review and awesome pistol. I have both the 9mm and 45acp, the 45 was perfect out of the box, the 9mm not so much. Slide stop on 9mm would not hold the slide back on any magazine. Replaced it with a Fusion and now its fine. Also the thumb safety was not fit to the sear, had to file and stone it to make it a one thumb operation not a two thumb. Tab on thumb safety was to long where it contacted the sear and needed to be trimmed by file and stone, now it works as good as my 8 other Colt 1911's. Didn't want to send it back and wait weeks, easy fix and repaired myself. Also thinking about putting the blue lite pipes on the front sight also. Enjoy your videos!
You should have seen me get the barrel bushing stuck on mine when I rotated it the wrong way reassembling. Also, the guide rod should go back in before you put the slide on.
Dammit! I looked at this in the blued version for quite a while and am curious to see how it shoots but reviews and reports of things not working properly led to a situation where I now have a Sig 1911 Tacops 9mm waiting for me to pick up at my FFL when he reopens tomorrow. I very much hope this works for you and will be interested to see the shooting video. Also, I wanted the checkering on the front grip strap as I feel like it helps me quite a bit when shooting my Sig 1911 Tacops .45.
I was literally thinking that just as you said it haha XD, yes I absolutely love the look of the matte top contrasting the glossy side of the slide. Also, the value of this pistol is incredible, it's a handfit 1911, that's as the name suggests, competition-ready. I recommended the 45acp to a friend as his first handgun because its a gun he can pass on to his kids and shoot as an expert when he gets there. I think in the full size 5" this 1911 in 45acp is perfectly managable in terms of recoil, it gets a bad rep but really the dwell time and as you said, heft make it totally shootable, even for a beginner. Great pistol, great price, 'specially the 9mm, im happy for ya G
The same thing happened to me with a government caliber 38 super with holow point bullets it got stuck and with a jacketed bullet it worked well but I sold it because it was not reliable
I am current late in my 21st year and I finally decided to get a pistol. I love the M9 series but I really like the looks of the 1911 as well. I ended up purchasing this exact gun and im currently waiting for the permit/registration process in my state.
Damn! Another beauty! I am so envious. This one literally made me catch my breath when you opened the box, and I'm not even a 1911 aficionado. I seriously need more money for guns. I think I'm just gonna sell my car and walk to work. ; )
The smiley face is from the slide release scratching the frame during reassembly. If you're not careful when pushing the slide release back in it can swing down and scratch the finish.
Oh ok makes sense thank you. question if you push the slide release down once its already assembled to let the slide move forward after u have reinserted a fresh mag will it scratch it like that as well? or just when u reassemble it? just wondering :)
maravilloso pais los estados unidos de america tu puedes tener en tu casa todas las pistolas colt 9 mm o de otras marcas y diferentes calibres todas las que tu quieras ojala en mexico pudieramos tener armas como esas
I think you are talking about the gold cup trophy. Looks exactly the same except it has an extended magwell, checkered front strap and adjustable rear sight, this is off memory so I may be wrong but, these run around 900? And the nicer one is about 1500.
Welcome. Most of my videos are part of articles. Check pinned comments or video descriptions for the full details. We separate range from tabletop so you don't have to skip through the stuff you aren't interested in.
@e.tamplin8102 yes I had Dan wessons and yes I knew when I bought them cz owns them. I'm glad cz owns Dan Wesson. The quality is excellent. Colt will be better too
Recoil spring setup is interesting but probably overkill for 9mm. I think I'm forever biased because my gf talked me into getting a Dan Wesson for my first 1911. The modern production Colts don't do anything for me. I'm sure 9mm will shoot like a dream through this one. Look forward to the range video.
Fit & finish on Colt is not up to standards. I'll take a Dan Wesson or a number of Springfield 1911s over a Colt any-day for the same price-point. People live with nostalgia and not in reality. Colt is not what it use to be 100 years ago.
Beautiful 1911 😍 That stainless finish is really nice! Be a proud owner Sir.

I have one of these, and have made some adjustments to elevate the fit and finish. It’s a great shooter, but could definitely use some dehorning.
Great job on the 1911. And you have a great sense of humor .
I've been eyeing up a Colt 1911 for the last 2 years and fully pulled the trigger (no pun) on this exact piece. Absolutely love the look and feel- Going to the range to test it out this weekend.
Replace a few parts and finish off the edges (sharp all over the place) and they're nice
I’ve got one, if you put it together that way again put the spring in the guide rod and let them hang out the front, it will keep the guide rod in place. But I agree doing it the other way is faster
Own one. Best shooting gun I’ve ever shot. Goes exactly where you want it
One of my dream guns. Nice gun GB.
Best of luck with your Colt! My favorite Gun Company!
I've got the 45acp competition 70 series, the 9mm rail gun and the 70 series gold cup trophy and they all have the dual recoil spring setup, they all shoot amazing and the only thing that the rail gun needs is the same fiber optic front sight and the blue g10s to be perfect
Nice! Love the sights and grip panels.
This is a beautiful gun. I always love Colt 1911 especially their gold cup series.
Have several Govt models and a couple Gold Cups all in .45 acp. Dying to get a 9 mm now.
Good review and awesome pistol. I have both the 9mm and 45acp, the 45 was perfect out of the box, the 9mm not so much. Slide stop on 9mm would not hold the slide back on any magazine. Enjoy your videos!
It’s more beautiful in person! Colt still has a pice of art with the 1911. This model is very accurate and a wonderful gun.
Maybe not as refined or well-made as some of the Turkish options, but it carries the classic name.
It looks to be a crowned barrel? Very nice pistol!!😊
Beautiful piece, I'm jealous.
Always wanted a colt Delta Elite
You should have seen me get the barrel bushing stuck on mine when I rotated it the wrong way reassembling. Also, the guide rod should go back in before you put the slide on.
Just picked mine up from the original owner, with real low round count through it. Love your video!
Love mine got it for an anniversary gift
Now that CZ owns colt. I think the quality will improve. I'll wait before buying another colt. My 1st "american" made colt was a disappointment.
I just bought one in blued. It feels cheap and loose compared to my Dan Wesson and STI
Great job and great sense of humor. I learned a lot.thanks
I do believe that is Primus in the intro. Nice review!
It is indeed!
I am in Love with the design.
Beautiful pistol!
hi, great info and great gun thanks for sharing
Sharp!!! What can you say. 👍🏻👍🏻
Nice! I have the same exact one in 38super and love it! I got a stainless one piece mainspring/magwell and gray g10 grips plus a 10round Wilson mag🤘🏻
Nice I just bought my 1911 38 super as well looks very nice.
Taking the slide off before screwing with the bushing is smarter. Ignore the haters.
Super vidéo Merci pour votre aide

The slide to frame fit on mine was loose as a goose.
I looked at new one recently and yes, it was very loose. Pretty disappointed, it was the worst of all the different brands I was looking at.
Just bought one used for 800 bucks with 3 mags. Good deal?
Yes, it's a decent gun from a formerly American classic company
Great review. It’s between this gun and a Smith and Wesson 1911 E-series. Any thoughts on comparing the two for me?
Wow. Thanks. That colt made my day.

Colt still make these? I want one! Super nice looking! Very nice!
I have the Colt 1911 9mm Light Weight Commander and having issues with the feed ramp for defense ammo...FMJ no issue's.
Do you have the same issue???
The same thing happened to me with a government caliber 38 super with holow point bullets it got stuck and with a jacketed bullet it worked well but I sold it because it was not reliable
That has to do with the feed ramp,
I have a ss colt 2011 commander! Very similar
Whew that's a purty girl right that. Cant wait to see if it runs
Love my 38 super same model great gun
I'd like to meet the guy who gets this as his 1st gun were do you go from here
I am current late in my 21st year and I finally decided to get a pistol. I love the M9 series but I really like the looks of the 1911 as well. I ended up purchasing this exact gun and im currently waiting for the permit/registration process in my state.
Such a nice gun. Wish there were one of these with a hammer drop safety like C-75BD. Still, a very very nice gun there. Good video, mate.
whisperthis I believe the first generation was a series 80, which would make it drop safe.
She’s a beauty Graham.
MSRP a 1000$ now. I've seen places listing them up too 1800$ crazy.
Beautiful. I want one
What’s the difference between this one and the gold cup
Rear sight is different/more adjustable on the gold cup. And the logo on the side. I believe that is all.
Do they make a 10 round magazine for the colt gold cup?
Yes, it'll take any 9mm 1911 mag of equal or greater capacity.
Damn! Another beauty! I am so envious. This one literally made me catch my breath when you opened the box, and I'm not even a 1911 aficionado. I seriously need more money for guns. I think I'm just gonna sell my car and walk to work. ; )

Question, what causes the smiley face under the slide release that you mentioned? How can u avoid doing that to a new 1911? Thank you great video!
No problem. Just during reassembly.
oh ok cool thank you
Don’t you get 9mm as well as.45 acp barrel?
I was very disappointed with the fit and finish of the Colt. Bought a DW PM9 instead.
Too bad that this beauty is not available in any local Gun store in the place were I live..
Gunbroker buddy
NO MAGAZINES ? Ny $350 Tisas had 2 magazines!
my dads first firearm❕
Mr. Graham Baates.... I like your field stripping 1911 guns... you always are doing it - in another way ... hihi ... Coco Suri from Germany
maravilloso pais los estados unidos de america tu puedes tener en tu casa todas las pistolas colt 9 mm o de otras marcas y diferentes calibres todas las que tu quieras ojala en mexico pudieramos tener armas como esas
Love it
May be an American name but owned by CZ now...majority shareholder is Česká zbrojovka Partners SE holding.
Correct, but this video was filmed in 2018, before Colt's last bankruptcy.
How can i get this in Pakistan ?
This company went bankrupt. There is a new "Colt" owned by CZ, but I don't know if the guns are built the same.
Nice peice!
No rail!? Thank God!
That mushy looking trigger is bothering me... I haven't handled this 1911 but all the series 70s don't have the 2nd step to it.
...I need it.
VERY GOOD I WONT
COLT COMMANDER 38 SUPER
BECASUE IT STRONG
1911 baby. One love
Well, if anyone knows how to make a 1911,it's Colt. I've been eyeballing this same gun. For around $1000 it's hard to beat
How much this gun
Looks like your missing the beveled magazine well.
I think you are talking about the gold cup trophy. Looks exactly the same except it has an extended magwell, checkered front strap and adjustable rear sight, this is off memory so I may be wrong but, these run around 900? And the nicer one is about 1500.
Andres Nunez you are correct.
How many??
New sub✌🏽

u put dummy marks on such a nice 1911

COLT COMPETITION STAINLESS
38 SUPER @POLICE THAILAND
KIMBER 45 ACP
Colt quality is in the toilet! But maybe CZ will clear that up! I had a custom Gvmnt model and it was ok after the work but wasn't like a Dan Wesson!
@e.tamplin8102 yes I had Dan wessons and yes I knew when I bought them cz owns them. I'm glad cz owns Dan Wesson. The quality is excellent. Colt will be better too
Nice 😀 Pistol 🔫 For Sure the Matte On Top is Nice It Cuts Down on Glare When in The Sun 😀
Who does not have a dummy scratch. . .
Un sonajero

Looks great, but looks like a pain in the ass to work on.
Idiot scratches on Colts hurt my soul!
Tell me about it. I got it that way
Classic American name? Ya if it only had classic American quality! Think colt is bankrupt and going to be bought from CZ !
Reassembly was painful to watch.
is that a fucking frame scratch??????? jeez, I hate it when people don't assemble 1911's correctly
Jesus bless you
Fit & finish on Colt is not up to standards. I'll take a Dan Wesson or a number of Springfield 1911s over a Colt any-day for the same price-point.

9mm?? Sacrilegious!!!!
Hot
"Classic american brand" 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
