I am 72 and exercising with an 85 year old, who actually reminds me every day when it's time to go to the Gym. We do 25 minute treadmill walks , and then weights and strength training. We are in great shape and I plan on dying healthy. I take cold showers, have since I've been16. No drugs, just holistic living!
@ReligionAndMaterialismDebunked i was vegan for 2/almost 3 years and worked as a cook in a vegan restaurant but i have ankylosing spondylitis and i started working with a very respected clinical dietetitian and i got to know about how seeds and legumes are very pro-inflammatory and i tested it and honestly yes they are, i feel like a feather right now and i walk 15k steps daily, do yoga in the evening and some resistance training after dinner (which is one of my 2 meals a day, because i'm intermittent fasting and keeping a 18 hour break between last and the first meal) so yes, vegan is great, i wish i could be vegan like i was but it's clear to me now, it's not for everybody and sending messages like #govegan is very hurtful to me (i know me eating them hurts the animals and the planet more, but when it comes to the planet when i buy simple meat from an organic farm honeslty it's still better for the planet than your turbo processed vegan stuff, and i don't actually buy anything processed) edit: not actually arguing against vegan, if it works for you, great, just don't count everybody as one because tbh most people with inflamatory diseases shouldn't eat any legumes and seeds which kinda leaves them with animal sources of protein (which eggs and dairy for example are also not allowed on autoimmune protocol)
As a 67 year-old woman in pretty darn good shape, I can tell you I'm a different person if I miss strength training for one solid week! My energy drops and so does my sense of wellbeing! Strength train it or lose it! And here's a tip for you, breathe deeply with each repetition and you will find you actually enjoy it! Consider the number of deep breaths just as important as the number of repetitions! Go slow and complete the range of movement!⁹

This video helped me change my life, and I want to come back and say thank you to both doctors for this incredible conversation. When I came across this video three months ago, I was on a streak of feeling exhausted all the time and getting sick frequently. I was desperate to make a change, so went looking for information. I found this, watched it in its entirety, and changed my diet on the spot. No second thoughts, I just decided right then to cut out sugar, processed foods, and most grains, with some exceptions. I'm not totally rigid, but it was a complete and immediate transformation that has lasted since. Granted, I was not ill-informed with a terrible diet before. I was eating better than the vast majority of Americans. I grew up with well educated, nutrition-conscious parents. And yet, I thought I could pay little attention to what I eat and get away with it because I'm young and healthy. I came to realize watching this that I get to have vibrant good health. I don't have to tolerate illness and rapid aging. I can take phenomenal care of myself. I had a loaf of bread in my fridge when I watched this. I wasn't even tempted to finish it. I just left it in there for a couple weeks while I made myself meals from scratch using fresh produce and meat, and then eventually threw it away. I'm rarely tempted to eat outside of the new diet I've adopted, because I want to feel incredible. Cooking is now a beautiful part of my daily life that brings me so much joy. It used to seem like way too much work. I guess I had adopted a lot of unhealthy mentalities from the culture around me without even realizing it. I agree with Dr Hyman. I’m lacking social support/ friendships to help my aging journey. I’m 61 and my friendships are not quality. I’m on my own in this aging game. Dr Hyman believes in purpose and friendships….. genuine friendships
There are hundreds of places to meet people. Senior Citizens Center is probably the best place for you or volunteer somewhere. No one is going to knock on your door & ask if you want to be friends.
67 years old here. Day 90 of carnivore diet. Lost a stone and exercise 6 days a week strength training and stretches. I feel fantastic. Aiming for another 90 days adding some more fruit snd vegetables. ❤

I loved this podcast and the discussion about the effect on children. I made my three boys cook dinner one night a week, while they were growing up. They had to use at least three food groups (not including dessert), and they could use a cookbook or go online. It was great for them! Dinners got better as the competition for compliments increased. My husband and I each took a night, too. There were many ways it helped them, but this were some of the ways cooking at home impacted their futures. The oldest spent a few years training pilots in the National Guard, and was very vocal when his trainees ate junk food and became unfit. (He is still very fit, and eats well.) The middle son was the most timid about trying new things, and he became confident in cooking, and learned to eat different foods. When he married, his wife couldn't cook, so he was a coach and cooked some himself. (She is now a great cook.) The youngest son was the star in cooking. He loves to cook, especially the most challenging meals, he grows his vegetables and some fruit, canning and freezing, and is constantly in tune with nutritional aspects of cooking. He calls me often to ask about 'substitutes' in recipes. Now with a family of his own, he is very strict about their eating balanced meals and no junk food. At this point, the 6 and 3 year old are satisfied with what they eat, and do not hound their parents for ultra processed foods. So, does it matter if parents emphasize good eating at home, in different ways? You bet. They may not be chefs, but this is a life skill that keeps on giving...to future generations.
Dr. Hyman’s “10 day detox diet”. saved my life in my opinion. Stuck with his food plan for 6 months to reset my health and thinking and try very hard now to eat low carb, no sugar……eating healthy- lost 40 lbs kept it off 2 plus years 😊

I am a 64-year-young woman who just completed and placed second in a bikini fitness competition and 5th overall with women of all ages. I absolutely incorporate strength training routinely and am strong enough to accomplish most tasks by myself. I play with my great (yes great) grandchildren in the park and can carry them, catch them, and climb on the playground equipment. Separately, I attribute my regular consumption of ginger as a source of energy, vitality, and youthfulness.
Hi Sunnygirl, for starters I have not been sick for as long as I can remember. I started drinking ginger when I lived in San Francisco and would stop at the Farmers Market after my early morning run it perked me up and I noticed I wasn't as sore as I typically was the next morning so I was able to run further and more frequently. The running then led to regular workouts at Orange Theory where I incorporated strength training and mixed up my cardio. The more consistent I was with ginger in the morning the better I felt. I worked for a start-up which entailed very long hours and found I was more alert and energized. This was the beginning of what has now been a routine part of my daily supplements. The best thing you can do for longevity is to try some fasting! It increases NAD+ just like NMN and also repairs the immune system, which is required for your body to repair the damage of aging. Some benefits of doing occasional extended fasting: High blood pressure is lowered to normal levels very quickly while fasting. Fasting restores NAD+ to healthy levels. Vitamin D plasma levels are increased as fasting improves metabolic health, and vitamin D in turn increases autophagy. Fasting stimulates phagocytosis, the ingestion of bacteria, plaques and viruses by the immune system. It will also remove any 'foreign material' like spikes that are not supposed to be there. What breaks a fast? Anything with protein or carbohydrates in it will break a fast. Most teas and herbs are OK. Most supplements and meds will either break ketosis directly or contain a filler that will. Many meds are dangerous to take while fasting. Does fasting lower testosterone? No, it raises it when the fast is broken by increasing lutenizing hormone. Fasting also increases insulin sensitivity, which helps with muscle building. Senescent cells are responsible for many of the effects of aging and are a root cause of the development of cancer. A fasting mimicking diet for 3-5 days in a row also provides many of the same benefits as water fasting. FMD usually has 200-800 calories, under 18 g of protein and extremely low carbs. Exogenous ketones can aid with fasting, making it easier in healthy people and allowing some people with specific issues to fast in spite of them without worrying as much about hypoglycemia. Children, pregnant or nursing women should not fast for periods longer than 16 hours. People with pancreatic tumors or certain forms of hypoglycemia generally cannot fast at all. Hi Rangan, love your interviews. Felt I had to comment on your use of the word 'wars'. It's not wars. It is oppression, both of our food and our personal choices in life. Mark is saying the best things ever. Some of us have been studying all this since 1972, and food and agriculture industry has been the aggressor for all this time. Our Human Ecology just has to be understood by the health profession and governments. It's not too big a topic, when you embrace an holistic research approach rather than use a reductionist one. Real Life is not economics/growth (we don't have to believe Mrs Thatcher and Ronald Reagan). Real Life is the correct functioning of the ecosystems on which we depend for our health and happiness.
I am Italian and my grandparents lived 102 years long, surviving through years of restrictions, hard work, WWII and nazi deportation. But very often as I mention olive oil, mediterranean diet and unprocessed food to USA citizen, Germans or Britons ...I get disgusted reactions like "oil is gross" and "you can't eat pizza and pasta all day", "organic food is a scam", so I deduce that many people has very little idea about what are we talking about...

I’m a 58 year old travel MSN RN and at one phase in my life I was healthy, eating all great foods, exercising regularly, and looked and felt amazing. That was 3 years ago. Now, I’m on a very bad road…many sweets, carbs, junk food, but in another respect (perhaps 5%) I eat very healthy. I love your channel and I am really wanting to change my path. I want to feel the way I used to. I am free of any major health or organ issues, thank God. No major issues..yet, but I must change now. I am frequently told I don’t look my age. Ironic, because lately, especially due to working long shifts and night shift, I feel older than I am in many respects. Aching, fatigue, exhaustion, and just plain 40% feeling like a blob is my current status. 60% of the time I am deeply engaged in extensive yard work. Hi jms- you are 58 and I presume post menopausal so you may need to be more careful about your health- turn down those long shifts esp night shift. You are exhausted and looking for a quick fix from junk food. Suggest get checked for diabetes / prediabetes and get your thyroid checked. How is yoursleep?.I agr3 with the atomic habits suggestion.
As you said, you are stuck. Maybe the poor eating is the frustration with this phase of your career. Maybe it's time for a change. I get it, been there, had to do deep assesment because I was on a first name basis with potato chips and mountains of comfort food to dull the pain of my work. I am 57 I have had chronic fatigue and And ME for 3 years now And the only exercise I can do is swimming and still I struggle for a couple of days after but it is keeping me alive and mobile And feeling pretty darn good for someone with chronic fatigue❤ My grandparents have always taught us that you gotta keep moving because if you sit down for a long period of time you mean never get up

Iam highly qualified medical doctor don’t like gym and like out in nature. But the best money I spent is to go to gym and started to do weights , functional fitness classes , dancing for fitness.Ot is amazing how flexible, can cut my toes nails easily. To do resistance training is better with group. I have a big gym and sauna at home but it is better with others . Alone is bad and miserable.

Haven't tried carnivore, but i love the feeling of ketosis. I try to eat OMAD with healthy low carb, high fat, moderate protein.
@@makeadifference4allThat's true. I watched a video on Simon Hill's channel where this researcher emphasized to eat protein with every meal, especially after 50 because we absorb less and less nutrients. OMAD worked on mice, but its not proven to prolong life on humans or monkeys.

I believe that knowing why you are alive, your daily purpose for contributing to your community, helps you. Also, people were more deeply connected throughout their whole live, whereas in my life in America, I don't know anyone other then my children for their entire life. Dailey movement as a part of every day life, walking around instead of riding in a car, movement as a part of life instead of a gym membership. I'm 75 and eat real natural food, avoiding packaged or fast foods. I was trying to eat mostly plant based, very little meat. Recently I switched to more high quality animal protein. I'm trying to get more exercise by having a plot at a community garden, which also gives me another community to connect with.
While we are getting down to the cause of the problem… I think this is all good and wonderful/ but the average working woman is responsible for all that healthy cooking and shopping and preparing and chopping. She is worn out after her work day and now it is time for homework and clothes washing and everything else. I doubt that most women have the energy to cook healthy meals every day. That’s the real cause.

This is content which requires 1 to listen to this information more than 1 time and apply the information in real-time.
One thing I've noticed for me is having to watch my animal protein intake, which I've cut back on 😢 because of kidney issues. Protein in the urine tells me time to back off. What a lot of people don't know is animal protein cam be hard on the kidneys and I fully believe that down the road, carnivores will become aware of this, especially if diabetic. I've always loved veggies, even as a little kid but always loved meat as well. I ate a lot of both. But now it's mostly veggies and smaller amounts of meat. If I get carried away on the meat intake - and I do, the sudden protein in the urine, let's me know my kidneys are NOT happy and suffering so I have to back off. It clears up and I'm fine again. Just saying to not overload the kidneys with a loaded carnivore diet. It' could cost you down the road. The line up of human teeth are not the same as for true carnivores like lions and wolves but are in line with the herbivores and omnivores.
Is this a new conversation or one that Dr. Chatterjee did a couple of years ago and was just reposted? I'm wondering because Dr. Hyman seems to be totally oblivious to some of the newer research for example around resveratrol and the carnivore diet. I liked that Dr. Chatterjee seemed a little more critical of his guest for once - and I loved how he cloaked that fact with an abundance of diplomacy. Dr Chatterjee, if you're reading this: Please continue to do that. People like me who have followed you for a while notice the discrepancies between your guests and would love to know their arguments for their sometimes unconventional theses.
I went carnivore a year and a half ago and did great for the first 6 months and then my body broke out in never-ending eczema and I developed histamine issues which I still have to this day. I don't necessarily want to blame the diet, but having researched what I've been going through, it seems to happen to a lot of people who are unhealthy going into the carnivore diet. For me, I think my gut microbiome got very disrupted from the diet change, so I think people need to go SLOW if they start carnivore and REALLY SLOW if they're not healthy to begin with. I learned the hard way and I am now ketovore and healing. One thing that always struck me as odd is the rabid carnivores say plants are trying to kill you but they also save people's lives (medicine), it's a weird stance. I live in northern New Mexico where I'm blessed to have regenerative ag beef available and it's not too expensive and there is definitely no doubt about how much better it tastes than store bought factory farmed.

where you say “even you succumb” I was just saying to someone the other day how I fell off the wagon since the 4th of July festivities and a cookout where I had some sweet treats. Instead of just having some on that day, I let my guilt lead me for the entire month. Knowing how bad I feel after eating it. From bloat, intestinal issues, inflammation, joint pain, extra chins! I continued to ingest the garbage until yesterday . So essentially I’ll start over again for the month of August. I KNOW BETTER! Is it food addiction? Self sabotage? Human nature. I don’t know. But I’m looking forward to the detox in ten days. Thank you for these conversations. I love them.
You can strength train all you want and eat protein but both men and women need testosterone to build the muscle and have the energy to exercise. Doctors refuse to prescribe testosterone for menopausal women and low testosterone is men is widely overlooked
People can also get the wrong impression when you mentioned that they should stay away from starch and sugar - because WHOLE starches, and sugar that is bound to the rest of the plant food - is actually beneficial and very good for you

I would say that these issues are being passed down in pregnancy. My first kid has a learning disability and I am realizing I might have been insulin resistant when I was pregnant even though I was relatively healthy.

Evenly spread out protein feedings are superior for optimal muscle protein synthesis. Fasting ain't it. Autophagy happens in a calorie deficit. I look 28 at age 42. I bet if I fasted I'd look 12. Sure lol
You can buy whole foods with food stamps, but they are more expensive and you don't get usually very much assistance for a month. It helps. It doesn't come close to covering the food you need for a month. And the taxes you pay all your life helps pay for the food stamps you may later receive when old or disabled or just in a hard place maybe due to health etc.
Dr Chatterjee I have a daughter that has been labeled with adhd, severe anxiety, asd, pda, dyslexia and so the list goes on. She has been hospitalized due to self harm and so the list hoes on and she is only 13 now. As a parent that now for the last month stopped all sugar intake for my own body and started fasting for healing i need your help to show my kids what sugar and processed food do to then. She the animal produce they eat that was fed with hormones and antibiotics do to their bodies and by eliminating these items that they can get off all medications and take control of their own bodies. This has to be a visual and audio file that all parents can show their kids so that they themselves can make the choice as we can force as much as we want BUT it has to come from themselves or they will always turn to sugar and man made foods. Einstein never made that quote about bees disappearing from the Earth. The most likely source is a fellow called Maurice Maeterlinck in his work The Life of the Bee, written in the ‘20s. I know this only because I had to source it for an article on the honey bee. The quote was attributed to Einstein in the 60s and grew legs (possibly six of them). A great podcast however, after seeing Mark on a podcast interviewing some guy who was in partnership with him for flogging tartary buckwheat at greatly inflated cost, and letting everyone listen to all the supportive talk about healing the immune system before mentioning it, I was very put off.
Changing my diet saved me from debilitating back pain, nerve pain, joint pain, muscle pain, digestive issues, raised blood pressure, 20kg over weight. It took around 8 months for all these problems to resolve. Since 2020 I've been completely pain free and never felt and looked healthier. I'm only eating fatty meats, seafood, eggs and dairy. Prior to that I was eating the mainstream version of a healthy diet (lots of veggies, fruit, whole grains, low fat, eating the rainbow etc) for decades and watching my health slowly decline. I learnt lots watching videos by Dr Ken Berry, Dr Shawn Baker, Dr Gary Fettke, Dr Benjamin Bikman, Dr. Malcolm Kendrick, Dr Anthony Chaffee, Dr Paul Mason etc. And these authors videos Diana Rodgers, Robb Wolf, Lierre Keith.

That part where he talked about these old women put in a home with antique things that were part of their young years and began to feel young again, reminded me of a Twightlight Zone on TV ( I think it was the Twilight Zone) of this elderly home where the people all bent and frail would sneak out late at night onto the grounds and suddenly like magic they were young again, like, 10 to around 12 years old, running and jumping with eternal youth. I myself was a teen during these shows. Now I'm 77 come December in a few weeks, fighting against old age.😔😌

I am 72 and exercising with an 85 year old, who actually reminds me every day when it's time to go to the Gym. We do 25 minute treadmill walks , and then weights and strength training. We are in great shape and I plan on dying healthy. I take cold showers, have since I've been16. No drugs, just holistic living!

@ReligionAndMaterialismDebunked i was vegan for 2/almost 3 years and worked as a cook in a vegan restaurant but i have ankylosing spondylitis and i started working with a very respected clinical dietetitian and i got to know about how seeds and legumes are very pro-inflammatory and i tested it and honestly yes they are, i feel like a feather right now and i walk 15k steps daily, do yoga in the evening and some resistance training after dinner (which is one of my 2 meals a day, because i'm intermittent fasting and keeping a 18 hour break between last and the first meal)
so yes, vegan is great, i wish i could be vegan like i was but it's clear to me now, it's not for everybody and sending messages like #govegan is very hurtful to me (i know me eating them hurts the animals and the planet more, but when it comes to the planet when i buy simple meat from an organic farm honeslty it's still better for the planet than your turbo processed vegan stuff, and i don't actually buy anything processed)
edit: not actually arguing against vegan, if it works for you, great, just don't count everybody as one because tbh most people with inflamatory diseases shouldn't eat any legumes and seeds which kinda leaves them with animal sources of protein (which eggs and dairy for example are also not allowed on autoimmune protocol)

As a 67 year-old woman in pretty darn good shape, I can tell you I'm a different person if I miss strength training for one solid week! My energy drops and so does my sense of wellbeing! Strength train it or lose it! And here's a tip for you, breathe deeply with each repetition and you will find you actually enjoy it! Consider the number of deep breaths just as important as the number of repetitions! Go slow and complete the range of movement!⁹

This video helped me change my life, and I want to come back and say thank you to both doctors for this incredible conversation. When I came across this video three months ago, I was on a streak of feeling exhausted all the time and getting sick frequently. I was desperate to make a change, so went looking for information. I found this, watched it in its entirety, and changed my diet on the spot. No second thoughts, I just decided right then to cut out sugar, processed foods, and most grains, with some exceptions. I'm not totally rigid, but it was a complete and immediate transformation that has lasted since. Granted, I was not ill-informed with a terrible diet before. I was eating better than the vast majority of Americans. I grew up with well educated, nutrition-conscious parents. And yet, I thought I could pay little attention to what I eat and get away with it because I'm young and healthy. I came to realize watching this that I get to have vibrant good health. I don't have to tolerate illness and rapid aging. I can take phenomenal care of myself. I had a loaf of bread in my fridge when I watched this. I wasn't even tempted to finish it. I just left it in there for a couple weeks while I made myself meals from scratch using fresh produce and meat, and then eventually threw it away. I'm rarely tempted to eat outside of the new diet I've adopted, because I want to feel incredible. Cooking is now a beautiful part of my daily life that brings me so much joy. It used to seem like way too much work. I guess I had adopted a lot of unhealthy mentalities from the culture around me without even realizing it. This video exposed them to me and empowered me to choose a different path. Thank you, thank you.

67 years old here. Day 90 of carnivore diet. Lost a stone and exercise 6 days a week strength training and stretches. I feel fantastic. Aiming for another 90 days adding some more fruit snd vegetables. ❤

I loved this podcast and the discussion about the effect on children. I made my three boys cook dinner one night a week, while they were growing up. They had to use at least three food groups (not including dessert), and they could use a cookbook or go online. It was great for them! Dinners got better as the competition for compliments increased. My husband and I each took a night, too. There were many ways it helped them, but this were some of the ways cooking at home impacted their futures.
The oldest spent a few years training pilots in the National Guard, and was very vocal when his trainees ate junk food and became unfit. (He is still very fit, and eats well.) The middle son was the most timid about trying new things, and he became confident in cooking, and learned to eat different foods. When he married, his wife couldn't cook, so he was a coach and cooked some himself. (She is now a great cook.) The youngest son was the star in cooking. He loves to cook, especially the most challenging meals, he grows his vegetables and some fruit, canning and freezing, and is constantly in tune with nutritional aspects of cooking. He calls me often to ask about 'substitutes' in recipes. Now with a family of his own, he is very strict about their eating balanced meals and no junk food. At this point, the 6 and 3 year old are satisfied with what they eat, and do not hound their parents for ultra processed foods. So, does it matter if parents emphasize good eating at home, in different ways? You bet. They may not be chefs, but this is a life skill that keeps on giving...to future generations.
Dr. Hyman’s “10 day detox diet”. saved my life in my opinion. Stuck with his food plan for 6 months to reset my health and thinking and try very hard now to eat low carb, no sugar……eating healthy- lost 40 lbs kept it off 2 plus years 😊
To avoid falling we need balance exercises heel to toe , backward walking,step exercises,stand on one leg, sit on floor without help of hands, sit cross legged, get up without hands help, squatting.,push up. Planks, swan pose , Down dog, cat and cow pose, bridge.Infrared red light therapy.

I am a 64-year-young woman who just completed and placed second in a bikini fitness competition and 5th overall with women of all ages. I absolutely incorporate strength training routinely and am strong enough to accomplish most tasks by myself. I play with my great (yes great) grandchildren in the park and can carry them, catch them, and climb on the playground equipment. Separately, I attribute my regular consumption of ginger as a source of energy, vitality, and youthfulness.

Hi Sunnygirl, for starters I have not been sick for as long as I can remember. I started drinking ginger when I lived in San Francisco and would stop at the Farmers Market after my early morning run it perked me up and I noticed I wasn't as sore as I typically was the next morning so I was able to run further and more frequently. The running then led to regular workouts at Orange Theory where I incorporated strength training and mixed up my cardio. The more consistent I was with ginger in the morning the better I felt. I worked for a start-up which entailed very long hours and found I was more alert and energized. This was the beginning of what has now been a routine part of my daily supplements. I almost feel like I am reverse aging. Plus my doctor is blown away at my stats which are better than hers and she is nearly 30 years younger. @@sunnygirl9691
The best thing you can do for longevity is to try some fasting! It increases NAD+ just like NMN and also repairs the immune system, which is required for your body to repair the damage of aging. Some benefits of doing occasional extended fasting: High blood pressure is lowered to normal levels very quickly while fasting.
Fasting restores NAD+ to healthy levels.
Vitamin D plasma levels are increased as fasting improves metabolic health, and vitamin D in turn increases autophagy.

When you move out of MTOR your body shuts down the building blocks of the cell required for viruses to replicate.
What breaks a fast? Anything with protein or carbohydrates in it will break a fast. Most teas and herbs are OK. Most supplements and meds will either break ketosis directly or contain a filler that will. Many meds are dangerous to take while fasting.
Does fasting lower testosterone? No, it raises it when the fast is broken by increasing lutenizing hormone. Fasting also increases insulin sensitivity, which helps with muscle building.
Fasts of 36-96 will not affect short term female fertility or affect menstrual cycle. They also may increase long term fertility, especially in women with PCOS.
Fasting very quickly reduces leptin resistance, which impairs immune function. One day of fasting can cut your leptin levels in half and gets your immune system working properly again!
Stomach acid is reduced over time while fasting and can allow for the healing of treatment resistant ulcers. Some patients may need continued acid reduction medication while fasting.

Fasting releases BDNF and NGF in the blood which stimulates new nerve and brain cell growth. This can help a great deal with diseases like MS, peripheral neuropathy and Alzheimers.
When not in ketosis, the brain can only burn carbohydrate, which produces a great deal of damaging ROS the brain has to deal with.
When you fast, this stimulates apoptosis in senescent or genetically damaged cells, destroying them. Senescent cells are responsible for many of the effects of aging and are a root cause of the development of cancer.
A fasting mimicking diet for 3-5 days in a row also provides many of the same benefits as water fasting. FMD usually has 200-800 calories, under 18 g of protein and extremely low carbs.
Exogenous ketones can aid with fasting, making it easier in healthy people and allowing some people with specific issues to fast in spite of them without worrying as much about hypoglycemia.
Children, pregnant or nursing women should not fast for periods longer than 16 hours. People with pancreatic tumors or certain forms of hypoglycemia generally cannot fast at all. Type 1 diabetics can also fast but it is more complicated and should be approached with caution as it could lead to ketoacidosis. If you experience extreme symptoms of some kind, especially dizziness or tremors, then simply break the fast and seek advice.

Autophagy happens with any calorie deficit. Fasting isn't required or optimal for the goal of muscle building, quite the opposite.

Hi Rangan, love your interviews. Felt I had to comment on your use of the word 'wars'. It's not wars. It is oppression, both of our food and our personal choices in life. Mark is saying the best things ever. Some of us have been studying all this since 1972, and food and agriculture industry has been the aggressor for all this time. Our Human Ecology just has to be understood by the health profession and governments. It's not too big a topic, when you embrace an holistic research approach rather than use a reductionist one. Real Life is not economics/growth (we don't have to believe Mrs Thatcher and Ronald Reagan). Real Life is the correct functioning of the ecosystems on which we depend for our health and happiness.
I am Italian and my grandparents lived 102 years long, surviving through years of restrictions, hard work, WWII and nazi deportation. But very often as I mention olive oil, mediterranean diet and unprocessed food to USA citizen, Germans or Britons ...I get disgusted reactions like "oil is gross" and "you can't eat pizza and pasta all day", "organic food is a scam", so I deduce that many people has very little idea about what are we talking about...

I’m a 58 year old travel MSN RN and at one phase in my life I was healthy, eating all great foods, exercising regularly, and looked and felt amazing. That was 3 years ago. Now, I’m on a very bad road…many sweets, carbs, junk food, but in another respect (perhaps 5%) I eat very healthy. I love your channel and I am really wanting to change my path. I want to feel the way I used to. I am free of any major health or organ issues, thank God. No major issues..yet, but I must change now. I am frequently told I don’t look my age. Ironic, because lately, especially due to working long shifts and night shift, I feel older than I am in many respects. Hi jms- you are 58 and I presume post menopausal so you may need to be more careful about your health- turn down those long shifts esp night shift. You are exhausted and looking for a quick fix from junk food. Suggest get checked for diabetes / prediabetes and get your thyroid checked. How is yoursleep?.I agr3 with the atomic habits suggestion.
As you said, you are stuck. Maybe the poor eating is the frustration with this phase of your career. Maybe it's time for a change. I get it, been there, had to do deep assesment because I was on a first name basis with potato chips and mountains of comfort food to dull the pain of my work. I am 57 I have had chronic fatigue and And ME for 3 years now And the only exercise I can do is swimming and still I struggle for a couple of days after but it is keeping me alive and mobile And feeling pretty darn good for someone with chronic fatigue❤ My grandparents have always taught us that you gotta keep moving because if you sit down for a long period of time you mean never get up

Iam highly qualified medical doctor don’t like gym and like out in nature. But the best money I spent is to go to gym and started to do weights , functional fitness classes , dancing for fitness.Ot is amazing how flexible, can cut my toes nails easily. To do resistance training is better with group. I have a big gym and sauna at home but it is better with others . Alone is bad and miserable.

OMAD worked on mice, but its not proven to prolong life on humans or monkeys.

I believe that knowing why you are alive, your daily purpose for contributing to your community, helps you. Also, people were more deeply connected throughout their whole live, whereas in my life in America, I don't know anyone other then my children for their entire life. Dailey movement as a part of every day life, walking around instead of riding in a car, movement as a part of life instead of a gym membership. I'm 75 and eat real natural food, avoiding packaged or fast foods. I was trying to eat mostly plant based, very little meat. Recently I switched to more high quality animal protein. I'm trying to get more exercise by having a plot at a community garden, which also gives me another community to connect with.
While we are getting down to the cause of the problem… I think this is all good and wonderful/ but the average working woman is responsible for all that healthy cooking and shopping and preparing and chopping. She is worn out after her work day and now it is time for homework and clothes washing and everything else. I doubt that most women have the energy to cook healthy meals every day. That’s the real cause.

One thing I've noticed for me is having to watch my animal protein intake, which I've cut back on 😢 because of kidney issues. Protein in the urine tells me time to back off. What a lot of people don't know is animal protein cam be hard on the kidneys and I fully believe that down the road, carnivores will become aware of this, especially if diabetic. I've always loved veggies, even as a little kid but always loved meat as well. I ate a lot of both. But now it's mostly veggies and smaller amounts of meat. If I get carried away on the meat intake - and I do, the sudden protein in the urine, let's me know my kidneys are NOT happy and suffering so I have to back off. It clears up and I'm fine again. Just saying to not overload the kidneys with a loaded carnivore diet. It' could cost you down the road. The line up of human teeth are not the same as for true carnivores like lions and wolves but are in line with the herbivores and omnivores.

I went carnivore a year and a half ago and did great for the first 6 months and then my body broke out in never-ending eczema and I developed histamine issues which I still have to this day.
I don't necessarily want to blame the diet, but having researched what I've been going through, it seems to happen to a lot of people who are unhealthy going into the carnivore diet. For me, I think my gut microbiome got very disrupted from the diet change, so I think people need to go SLOW if they start carnivore and REALLY SLOW if they're not healthy to begin with. I learned the hard way and I am now ketovore and healing. One thing that always struck me as odd is the rabid carnivores say plants are trying to kill you but they also save people's lives (medicine), it's a weird stance.
I live in northern New Mexico where I'm blessed to have regenerative ag beef available and it's not too expensive and there is definitely no doubt about how much better it tastes than store bought factory farmed.
It was definitely this unhealthy diet. Moderation of all nutritious foods is optimal for health.

I was just saying to someone the other day how I fell off the wagon since the 4th of July festivities and a cookout where I had some sweet treats. Instead of just having some on that day, I let my guilt lead me for the entire month. Knowing how bad I feel after eating it. From bloat, intestinal issues, inflammation, joint pain, extra chins! I continued to ingest the garbage until yesterday . So essentially I’ll start over again for the month of August. I KNOW BETTER!
Is it food addiction? Self sabotage? Human nature.
I don’t know. But I’m looking forward to the detox in ten days.

You can strength train all you want and eat protein but both men and women need testosterone to build the muscle and have the energy to exercise. Doctors refuse to prescribe testosterone for menopausal women and low testosterone is men is widely overlooked
People can also get the wrong impression when you mentioned that they should stay away from starch and sugar - because WHOLE starches, and sugar that is bound to the rest of the plant food - is actually beneficial and very good for you

I would say that these issues are being passed down in pregnancy. My first kid has a learning disability and I am realizing I might have been insulin resistant when I was pregnant even though I was relatively healthy.

You can buy whole foods with food stamps, but they are more expensive and you don't get usually very much assistance for a month. It helps. It doesn't come close to covering the food you need for a month. And the taxes you pay all your life helps pay for the food stamps you may later receive when old or disabled or just in a hard place maybe due to health etc.

I have a daughter that has been labeled with adhd, severe anxiety, asd, pda, dyslexia and so the list goes on. She has been hospitalized due to self harm and so the list hoes on and she is only 13 now.
As a parent that now for the last month stopped all sugar intake for my own body and started fasting for healing i need your help to show my kids what sugar and processed food do to then. She the animal produce they eat that was fed with hormones and antibiotics do to their bodies and by eliminating these items that they can get off all medications and take control of their own bodies.
This has to be a visual and audio file that all parents can show their kids so that they themselves can make the choice as we can force as much as we want BUT it has to come from themselves or they will always turn to sugar and man made foods.

Einstein never made that quote about bees disappearing from the Earth. The most likely source is a fellow called Maurice Maeterlinck in his work The Life of the Bee, written in the ‘20s. I know this only because I had to source it for an article on the honey bee. The quote was attributed to Einstein in the 60s and grew legs (possibly six of them).
A great podcast however, after seeing Mark on a podcast interviewing some guy who was in partnership with him for flogging tartary buckwheat at greatly inflated cost, and letting everyone listen to all the supportive talk about healing the immune system before mentioning it, I was very put off.

Dr Rhonda says eat broccoli sprouts and do sauna. I say, eat every other day.
Changing my diet saved me from debilitating back pain, nerve pain, joint pain, muscle pain, digestive issues, raised blood pressure, 20kg over weight. It took around 8 months for all these problems to resolve. Since 2020 I've been completely pain free and never felt and looked healthier.
I'm only eating fatty meats, seafood, eggs and dairy.
Prior to that I was eating the mainstream version of a healthy diet (lots of veggies, fruit, whole grains, low fat, eating the rainbow etc) for decades and watching my health slowly decline.
I learnt lots watching videos by Dr Ken Berry, Dr Shawn Baker, Dr Gary Fettke, Dr Benjamin Bikman, Dr. Malcolm Kendrick, Dr Anthony Chaffee, Dr Paul Mason etc.
And these authors videos Diana Rodgers, Robb Wolf, Lierre Keith.

Good interview. I’m surprised about the protein comments. But I get that is something America has to obsess over. Science, the China study as well as other major studies in longevity just does not support the whey protein theory.

That part where he talked about these old women put in a home with antique things that were part of their young years and began to feel young again, reminded me of a Twightlight Zone on TV ( I think it was the Twilight Zone) of this elderly home where the people all bent and frail would sneak out late at night onto the grounds and suddenly like magic they were young again, like, 10 to around 12 years old, running and jumping with eternal youth. I myself was a teen during these shows. Now I'm 77 come December in a few weeks, fighting against old age.😔😌
