    Back in the day, I played a janky Azorius Mill deck propped up by Teferi. One game my opponent had a playset of Gaea’s Blessing, so I couldn’t Mill them out. I was going to concede, but they hit me with a “Good Game” so instead I got the Teferi Emblem and proceeded to Mill them out. One card at a time. Nexus of Fate is what ultimately got MtG to stop these exclusive cards. The fact they're rarely reprinted gets on everyone's nerves since players want to get cards.
    Again, this is when we give Yu-Gi-Oh! some credit. At least they know when to just reprint cards. Even if sporadic, their reprint policy is much better than Magic's. Pot of Prosperity was reprinted to less than ten USD. Those kind of cards would be secondary marketed in MtG by the company indirectly.

      @@ebEliminator that's what the rest of my control is for. creature decks typically had issues against me with Grixis Walker control. i'd run 2 unmoored mainboard, and 2 sideboard. if i read my opponent's deck, i can occasionally clip them out of the gates for random wins. my assembly didn't do particularly badly against the nexus deck, but if i failed to shut them down i was in for a slow death. The only deck i remember explicitly having a BAD matchup against around that time was when Eldraine brought in the mistake that was Broko. I sometimes struggled against Fields of the Dead decks since i had difficulties against them if they stuck a field. i didn't have land destruction in the deck.

    if they make a "take ex turn" cards, the card going to your grave only means u need ways to return it from the grave & protect your grave from being removed. Still very possible. The card going back in your deck is a little better but if your deck is too small it becomes a problem. So I think they need to remove the card from the game after it is used so it can only give u one ex turn. One use of the spell & then it should be gone from all ways of getting that copy again.

  • @MewtwoStruckBack

    Wow, they actually made the players proxy or have a judge shuffle. Here I was seeing that bend, having flashbacks to Yu-Gi-Oh's Hobby League Sangan (with similar levels of bend/possible maniuplation) which I'm sure was played specifically because it was tournament legal and players could claim ignorance when they could naturally stack it into their hand unless they had someone filming them doing it. The entire point of the card was legal cheating.

    I don't play Modern anymore as my local game store has long since ceased running Modern events, but Nikachu, do I have a story for you...
    The year was 2017, although I can't remember the month, but we had a Modern tournament at the original location at my local game store. I think I was running a Simic deck while my opponent was running a mono-blue deck. I was okay with that to start with because I thought our decks would be on a similar power level. Man, was I wrong.
    Something I noticed about my opponent's board state was that he had lands that utilized storage counters. I didn't think much of it at the time, but eventually he started casting Time Warp repeatedly and I literally felt trapped. That was the worst Modern match I ever played. Two years prior, I played a janky Modern Azorius deck I made from Modern Masters 2015 cards against a Turbo Fog/Maze's End deck (not at my local game store as it didn't exist yet, but at a place called Indigo Lounge) and got absolutely clobbered.
    I agree that Nexus of Fate is absurdly broken. I can't remember my Arena days very well, but I think I either played/played against somebody with the Teferi & Nexus of Fate combo. I believe it got so bad to the point where the Arena team had to code in a message for players going infinite that was something along the line of "Please take a different action."
    But yeah, taking infinite turns and locking your opponent out of the game is one of the most evil things you can do in a game of Magic: The Gathering. So don't be that guy.

      You mana empties passing through each step, but you can still add mana once you're in the end step. So Wilderness Reclamation triggers at the end step, in response you float as much mana as you can, then the trigger resolves and all lands untap. So long as you can play at instant speed at your end step you can use the floating mana.

    As someone only just getting back into Magic after playing Japanese TCGs for the past decade or so, it's absolutely shocking to me how awful Magic's foiling is, and how not only are people okay with it but most players actually like to have foils

    • @NikachuMTG
      @NikachuMTG  12 дней назад

      Wizards has experimented with a bunch of new foiling styles and techniques over the last 4 years. I think they are looking for something new that sticks with everyone. But most people are just happy with how things are right now; except tournament players of course :P

      What's even funnier with the last couple years of doing so many collectors and special treatments that the foil version is the cheaper version than the non foil version of the traditional MTG style.

    • @NikachuMTG
      @NikachuMTG  12 дней назад

      This might be partially true because foils are so heavily printed that they aren’t so rare and special like they used to.

    This is why I advocate the need for a time clock similar to chess. Because many control players will take about 5 min on their own turn then another 5 min on their opponents turn as well!!!! So while you are playing 2-3 min per turn they are using twice as much time...... and then the game runs out of time!!!!

      @@NikachuMTG I'd get really unlucky playing against it - one time my opponent only had one copy in their deck - they found it, cast it, then shuffled, and I cut the deck, putting the card right back on top for him.

    • @NikachuMTG
