Thanks for your video. I was interested in this for a mafunction that I experienced in one of these, namely the Sledge Hammer in Bobbejaanland.
In my experience, when the machine was supposed to slow down after 15 swings by electric control, it didn't. It did slow down very slowly powered by gravity alone. I think the electricity just didn't work for about 10 minutes, something as simple as that gives one big torture machine. Instead of swinging about 20 times it swung about 100 times for 8 minutes I estimate, atleast that's how I remeber it. When I got out alive without vomiting it ruined my day at the themepark ofcourse. I felt incredibly sick for half an hour, feeling nautious, sweating a lot, even my forearm muscles cramped up and I couldn't bend my fingers at all.
That's an interesting experience I wanted to share. I would still recommend this machine as it's really fun and I've never heard of it malfunctioning other than that time.
Nice video, but the air brakes are only to keep the pendulum at zero position while loading passengers, not to stop the ride. In order to bring it to a complete stop, the motors run backwards when the pendulum goes down, that's how they slow it down until it's safe to apply the brakes.

I work on one. There actually isn't a 3 minute sequence on Zamperla Giant Discoveries. They have a 2 min, sequence, a 4 minute sequence, a 5 minute sequence and a 6 minute sequence. Parks usually run the 4 minute sequence. The 6 minute one is banned in my home park because it is considered too brutal for guests. But we occasionally run it along with the 5 minute one.
Oh okay. This is an old video so I'm looking to eventually redo them in much higher quality than this and with corrections.
I just recently experienced one of these at Six Flags over Texas and am absolutely obsessed. It is by far my favorite ride at the park. I feel like I am flying on it. Ended up making another trip JUST so I could ride it again.
3:10 these are called "grade beams" because they run along at grade [ground level].

I love love love your videos. I have worked a lot in audio editing/recording professionally, I would love to be of help and offer some suggestions if I may, as sometimes there are things that make it hard to understand your videos dialogue. Again, if I may, try speaking a little farther away from the microphone. Give a little distance so it doesn’t distort, sounds not as professional if there is any kind of distorting going on or muffled audio. Invest if you can in a pop filter for your mic.
Also, I think I saw someone else mentioned this as well, but speaking clearly, smoothly, and possibly slower a little bit would help also as far as being able to hear and understand your concepts/dialogue, as it’s sometimes hard to understand what you are saying, sounds kinda rushed to get to the end of a line. Smooth, clear, and even paced. Not trying to be rude, overly critical, or just sound like a douche, I just found your channel and you speak my language for mech/electrical technology obsession :) and I love sharing helping people in audio, video and graphic design since it’s what I do for a living, and just wanted to be able to help if possible. Thanks so much for your videos(subscribed). It is the most detailed and well explained content on thrill rides/coaster tech I have come across yet!👌

I agree 100%. Your content is amazing! BUT, the delivery needs polishing. I also in the recent past did live presentations. I would ask my coworkers after each what I could improve.
My suggestions are Almost what is said above; slow down! What is the hurry? Doing this one action might clear the next two. Speak clearly. Speak up. You sound as if you just woke up. These videos are professional quality. Let's get the audio there also. I love your videos but struggle with what is said. I notice when I have the sub captions on it misses a lot of your words. Maybe in editing watch the sub captions and if it decodes a word wrong it is most likely because it cannot understand you. Then you can go back and edit it.

This Electro Mechanical system is widely adopted in many of the family and major rides.
1. The four Drive Ac Motors 480 volts 2 on each side attach to the reduction gear assembly via a serpentine belt , the gear system is basically a dual coupling epicyclic planetary gear assembly whereas the output is the planetary carier attached to the pinion gear that drives the ring gear of the axle. Note that the pneumatic cylinders engage at the input of the reduction process and not to the output.
The mid axle is fitted and coupled to an electrical Slip Ring and a Contact ball slewing bearing. The axle and shaft is hollow.
2. The rotating riders wheel is also connected to the middle shaft by an electrical slip ring and a Slewing ball bearing.
3. Passenger Hydraulic restrainters adopt a technique called the spool valve phenomenon. The restraints connected to a rotating hinge that in return connected to the hydraulic pistons. When the hydraulic piston is engaged the oil is directed to a check valve which redirects the oil to the back of the cylinder locking it in. the rest of the oil goes to somthing called the bladder accumulator that presses a balloon full of nitrogen gas to preserve the volume and pressure of the oil. When restraints are disengaged, a parallel connection to the check valve path, is connected to a spool valve. The spool valve opens and the oil pushes the piston back to its original position. That disengagment is only activated when the ride is a zero position , a proximity sensor will engage a solinoid that activates the actuator of the valve.

So-Cal Theme Park Fan I don't think it really matters what kind of mic it is, but the kind of room because of echo, reverb and wave dampening. Some parts were recorded in different rooms at different times.

From Zamperla the giant Discovery is about $7M, the giga discoverys are around $8-9M. Construction usually runs around $150,000-250,000 depending on location.

I've ridden this ride before but I think the restraints should have a better system like a second safety harness locking mechanism.
I'm pretty sure I experienced the optional 6-minute version...was definitely not the typical cycle. Typically I experienced 3 full height swings but on one particular visit, we had 12 full height swings. We all felt very sick after.

The one at Discovery Kingdom is actually a Moser.
I rode one in six flags over Georgia and it was a very smooth ride. I didn't even feel the breaks when we slowed down but am I the only one that noticed that the boom bounce as its reaching maximum hight?

I’ve been on Wonder Woman at six flags great adventure and Harley Quinn at six flags America. I would love to ride crazity at six flags magic mountain, riddlers revenge at six flags over Texas, and the joker at six flags fiesta Texas.

The phone charger comparison is not the best example since phone chargers are in DC. The higher the voltage is, the less amps are used. A typical 480V 3phase 3/4hp motor only draws around 2 amps. Also the more amp draw you have the more heat is produced. Basically this is a butt load of power and tons of scorching heat. I'm an electrical controls engineer.
