We did it boys, we have finally turned Beth into a metalhead!
Finally! Love you Beth but I was waiting for this. -like a 2 yr subscriber or something
Also Hi from Michigan, USA, end of 2020
That's exactly what I was just thinking. Thanks, Uncle Mark!!!
Yay! I have loved this song forever and when I was a baby my mum used to play it so I could sleep, I really enjoy metal, rock , hard rock , death metal, ect
Whait I always tought she was a metalhead!
Ive seen Iron Maiden 31 times, never...NEVER!.... have they or the fans let me down. Truly one of the most loyal and passionate fans in the world, and we welcome all.
Only 8 for me, but totally agree!
Once for me, but damn it was amazing. Not ashamed to say I teared up being there
@@piercerray My first show was Piece of Mind tour, just saw them 5 times on Legacy of the beast tour, was emotional each and every time.
Youre right.... you can always count on a passionate crowd of fans at a maiden concert.
To me, more than any other band, their concerts are basically a celebration of the bands existence and everyone is in on it. 90% of the people in the stadium are wearing their favorite maiden shirt, including the band. Anyone that knows any lyrics is singing them. Its almost cult like... and i mean that in the best way possible lol.
I need to see them live.
I saw them live in 2016. I was pregnant with my daughter and that was the first time I felt her kick. Bruce, the man who told throat cancer to sod off, still sounds as amazing as he always had, and still runs on the stage like maniac. How can you not love Maiden?
Metal - the genre that no one gives credit to.
Metal fans - we'll pack a 100,000 people into any venue.
Too good for a decadent time. |,,| |,,|
This new breed of reaction channels on youtube have opened up for a lot metal, and through them a lot of people see metal in a new light.
And i love it!
Metal, a genre of music that we just can subdivide into subgenres until anything is metal.
This crowd was 400,000!
Si!
The audience even sings along to the guitar solo! Now that's devotion to a band!
This is a Brazilian audience bro and that's what we do
Seeing someone enjoy Maiden as a relatively new listener like this brings me such genuine joy
Wow... I remember this concert, I was there... simply amazing! Greetings from Brazil!!
That's amazing. I tear up almost every single time I see this concert. It's the concert that really exploded my love for Iron Maiden when I was a teenager. And even Maiden themselves say that South America is where the best and most intense fans are. Love watching the Maiden shows from South America ^^
Just so you know, I envy you! Rock in Rio is one of the best live shows ever!
Wow, i envy you ☺🤩
Iron Maiden is and has been my all time favorite band ever for over thirty years. I was around seven years old when I first listened to Hallowed Be Thy Name and it changed my life forever!! I love every era from Iron Maiden. The Paul Dianno era, the first Bruce Dickinson era, the Blaze Bayley era, and the second Bruce Dickinson era in my opinion are all PHENOMENAL!!! Steve Harris in my eyes is the greatest songwriter ever. He has always surrounded himself with amazing musicians. I have been to hundreds of concerts these past twenty five years, and Iron Maiden is easily the greatest live band I have ever seen. There are still as amazing as they were 25 years ago when I first saw them . They are still having fun performing on stage because they love what they are doing. There is a reason why Iron Maiden has the fan base that it does. My second all time favorite band does not even come close to how amazing Iron Maiden is. Iron Maiden has never failed me ever. I even love the albums The X Factor and Virtual 11 which many fans don't care for. The X Factor to me is a MASTERPIECE! I love how dark it is. UP THE IRONS!!!!!
Gotta be honest, I am not even here for the analysis anymore.
At this point its just the pure, contagious enjoyment of it all ... when they pick up around 4:00 and you just so visibly love it, made me bounce in my chair after a dreary, tired day.
100% agreed. She feels it to her core, and it's immensely contagious. Wonderful to watch.
Yeah. Also it doesn't hurt that she's gorgeous and her smile can cure diseases.

Been in the audience twice (in the pit once) for Maiden when they did this song. I get goose bumps watching the crowd reliving my time experiencing it. Bruce trains by singing the entire set for the tour, front to back, while rollerblading around.
I was there, close to the stage, smashing myself against the fences, almost dying. But it was incredible. 🤘🏻😆
Bruce Dickinson is an outstanding fencer, so I'm sure that helps keep him fit.
I've heard he was asked to join the British Fencing team in 1988 (although I can't corroborate that), and apparently he was ranked 7th in the GB at some point.
He's also an excellent roofer. Pretty good stonemason too...
🧥 I'll see myself out...
@@arkadye Something like that yes. It was in his autobiography "What does this button do?", which is a great book by the way. He also told there that he was into theatre in school and he sees Iron Maiden shows as plays more than concerts. That's why he's running around etc. so much; he's acting. And his singing is also painting a picture and telling a story. All that combined with THAT voice...
Im pretty sure what keeps him fit is singing and running around for two hours every other night haha
Not to mention they all play soccer too!
Iron maidens song are such beautifully written stories. That’s what appeals so much. As you said. He is a story teller. That’s what is so amazing
Crowd participation 1000%, Iron Maiden have the biggest family!
Bruce is one of the best frontmen to ever take to the stage. And considering his age, I’m pretty sure they still play their songs in the original keys. So many other bands have had to drop down a couple of steps to compensate for their vocalist.
They still play their songs in the same key, but I feel like their more recent albums are in lower keys and heavier, maybe deliberately so, but Bruce still goes for the belted high notes.
He mentioned in an interview promoting The Book Of Souls that he wrote the opening song for his solo work, and the guitars were tuned to drop D, so when he played it to the Maiden lads, they were trying to work out what was going on, Steve Harris apparently said “that’s in drop D ain’t it? We’ve never done that before, maybe it’s about time we did”
I know Adrian plays a few older songs in drop D to add a new harmony to what Dave and Janick are playing.
So I think there is a natural progression for them to bring the key down in their newer material to compensate Bruce’s voice lowering slightly, but they do indeed play all their songs in their original keys.
@@CoffeeMatt10 - I would say his voice is 'deepening' in timbre more than lowering much in upper pitch range - Bruce almost sings better live than he did in 1990.
I'm an instrumentalist so when people say the singer didn't sing the notes they used to, well the math is easy and they can be quite wrong. Even Avril Lavigne has deepened as her voice has matured, but her pitch range is pretty similar on singing her older stuff.
@@CoffeeMatt10 Aye Bruce’s solo stuff often went lower (possibly just to be heavier?) but the majority of Maiden’s stuff is still in E.
Considering bands like Bon Jovi are having to drop a few steps down these days. It’s pretty awesome Bruce can still handle the original keys, but then Steve Harris wouldn’t be happy about changing them, which was the issue with Blaze.
I assume the increasing use Les Pauls indicates drop-D tuning etc.
I never really appreciated Maiden until I saw them live a few years ago. They are so good, and their community is amazing \m/
It’s definitely a family! Watching the flags of 10 countries flying in the crowd all together is wonderful to see! And they are second to none live! Always bring it.
It's crazy to see them up there making all this big sound together, so perfectly.
Where have you been???
Legacy of the beast tour??
@@albertrodriguez1923 it was the Book of Souls tour. Went to mainly see Ghost, but was super impressed with Maiden
In an interview after he recovered from Throat cancer, he said the way he builds up his stamina is to rollerblade and start singing the set.
Rollerblading has become the forgotten, underrated cardio thanks to its 'passé' generational stigma. It probably really protects the legs and joints and everything from all the abuse of Bruce's leaping around on stage. I say inline skating will soon come back!
@@j_freed rollerblading and rollerskating both got really popular during the summer and early fall! at least here in California. it's definitely under-appreciated as a cardio and full body strengthening exercise
The bass is so amazing because Steve Harris is one of the best bassists of all time

Iron Maiden - The Talisman live at en vivo. One of the best performances in my opinion.
^sounds exactly like the album
En Vivo actually means live...The Santiago, Chile performances are indeed great. I'd like to hear them play more deep cuts on a bigger collection of live recordings.
@@j_freed yes, but En Vivo IS the actual name of the concert.
When it hits the "Westwards the tide" part... he's just belting it.
From what I have seen, Rio has THE BEST audiences. They have UNLIMITED energy and they sing along and just love it.
Please thank Uncle Mark for us again. We appreciate his wise guidance and influence on your reaction choices.
Love this performance, goose bumps every time with the crowd joining in at the start also Bruce does workout to help his breathing, he's an international fencer
When there's 100,000+ people singing along with the bassline you know it's got to be good.
OMG!!!! This is my favorite version of Fear of the Dark, I love it!
Dave Murray (second guitar solo) has a beautiful tone live.
If you liked the theatrical aspect of this, you should check out The Sign of the Cross (also by Maiden). Idk of any other live versions but the one from this Rock In Rio a delight.
You haven't experienced Maiden till you've seen them live. My daughters took me along twice to be in the seated area with my grand-daughter. Bruce had the audience in the palm of his hand, and the fans are such an amazing bunch too. The best band I have seen live!
Singer, stage performer, fencer, airline pilot. A true Renaissance man.
Author and filmmaker
And he takes patronising, b*llsh*tting politicians apart on national radio.
They invariably have no idea how insanely sharp witted and intelligent the man is.
They always assume because they're suited toffs, and he's a singer in a heavy metal band, they've got the upper hand.
Oh, how utterly wrong they always prove themselves to be. :-) An abject lesson in never judging a man by how he dresses.
Iron maiden are one of the only bands that can take 100k people and make them another instrument in the band.
There arent many bands half their age who have anywhere near this energy. These guys are all in their 60s.
This has to be my favourite maiden song. First saw them tour with it in 93.
I love that you can see they joy on her face when she lisen to Maiden 🤘
Pity she doesn’t have the lyrics in front of her to educate herself..
Every time the crowd joins in it gives me chills down my spine. I am glad I was part of such an experience on three different occasions.
Beth, I’ve been a Maiden fan since I was 15 in 1984 when I first heard “The Number Of The Beast” album. Bruce’s vocal range floored me along with Dave and Adrian’s guitar abilities. So excited to see your age group along with my 15 year old son appreciate their talent. Maiden’s appeal to me is that it’s like a metal opera and most of the songs have a mythological or historical basis. Thank You!!!
love Iron Maiden.. been listening to them since the 80's... great video and analysis Beth.
This has been my favorite song ever for as long as I can remember. And this version, with the Rock in Rio's crowd, is one of the best.
Maiden is hands down THE best live performance I’ve ever seen. I love when Bruce says “or just a FEAR....” and the crowd goes absolutely fuckin nuts
love the pure joy on your face whenever you listen to music you really enjoy, i so rarely see such joy on people's faces nowadays

She's done this song already..but she thought Bruce was putting on a Scottish accent,so she wasn't to happy..she got ripped in the comments section, then deleted the video..
I am glad you used the Rock In Rio, most of their songs live are the best on that album if you ask me. First live album with Iron Maiden for me, but still the best versions of the songs
This has to be in the top 5 best ever live performances, any category! I'm not a huge Maiden fan, they aren't my favorite band, but this live concert is just insanity! Great stuff!
I was in this concert watching live, 2001, Rock in Rio, it was my first Iron Maiden concert, since then I've being in two more.
My absolute favorite moment is Bruce lying through his teeth yelling "I can't hear you!" at all the screaming people :D
He's flirting the hell out of the audience. It's Bruce's superpower.
I think something that's overlooked about these guys is that they still carry this energy onstage. These are men in their 40s, now in their 60s and they are EXACTLY as good now as they were here, it's unbelievable.
It´s a curious thing that i can be one of those guys t comment "I was on that concert, it was amazing!"
I was on that concert, it was amazing!
You are so fortunate! How the audience was singing along here was so haunting. Must've been a great experience.
I've only recently found the various "vocal reaction" videos. And I gotta say I love how much Beth seems to get so much pleasure listening to these. You can see her lose herself in the music. Always funny to see these more traditional vocal coaches find themselves headbanging away going "what have I been missing all these years"
2:01 That's the cutest "heh" i ever heard
I really don't have much else to say other than I find your channel, fascinating.
Keep doing what you do, Beth!
I’ve been privileged to see the band live and the iron maiden hooks are incredible, the melody after you spoke about ‘hooks’ happens every single time and it is magical.
If an entire body could smile-- It would look like Beth... Great energy! Iron Maiden is amazing because they have always done what ever they wanted to do-- Talent meets Freedom. I grew up listening to Maiden, and could hardly wait for new albums to come out-- They will always be a part of my life.
I've played in bands most of my life. I couldn't imagine playing in front of a crowd that size. The South American audiences are insane.
Me as well. I think I'd freeze up.

Any iron maiden you do warms my heart. Your reaction is so heartfelt and puts some more nuance on what us metal heads feel, but can’t explain haha. I love this
Omg lol within seconds I commented what I said. And then you repeated the word nuance. That is what makes iron maiden beautiful. The highest highs and the most beautiful lows.
I was at this show in 2001, in Rio de Janeiro. It was the best show of my life. Up the Irons!
Thanks Beth, metal has some of the most powerful singers. I'm glad you recognize it! Cheers
From watching Live Maiden shows (I have yet to actually see them in concert, hopefully someday), but from watching their live videos, looking at the audience, I feel like Iron Maiden is a religion. Bands like them and Metallica, people will travel all over the world to see them.

Bruce's vowel placement is spot on. His diction and elocution is great. He controls every aspect of his singing with methodical thought, down to how he stands to allow maximum control. Cool vid. Metal forever! 🤘🏻

I saw them live last year for their Legacy of the Beast tour! It looked to me like they had more fun than the audience did, which is something because I know me and my friends had an amazing time! This song was in the line up and it was great.

Yay! I have loved this song forever and when I was a baby my mum used to play it so I could sleep, I really enjoy metal, rock , hard rock , death metal, ect 🎸😁
Bruce is great singer. But more importantly, he's an amazing frontman.
The G.O.A.T.
He weirdly makes you feel SEEN as an audience member.
It's impossible, but that's what he creates, that total audience connection.
One thing that's useful to look at for the guitarists and writers: over the quiet intro the guitars are doing picked out bits, so there's always some motion and complexity in the sound, even though there's not much going on. Meanwhile, the vocal line is comparatively simple. When the tempo really kicks in the drums do a lot of the work carrying the complexity and the guitars drop back to just playing chords, without even strumming. Just hit the chord and hold it till you get to the next one (with touches of ornamentation now and then). They get more complex again at the chorus (adding the galloping rhythm that's so associated with Iron Maiden), and when they do this the vocal becomes much simpler, repeating the same lyric over and over again. The additional complexity in the guitars is counteracted by the reduced complexity of the vocals. When Bruce stops singing, the guitars come back playing more complex lines again. Once everyone has heard the various lines in the guitars and the vocals, then they start combining them. This is how they get more mileage out of the music and keep the interesting for longer, but also they can have musical complexity without it overloading the listener. Lots of Iron Maiden songs work this way, and it's a really good technique to take into your writing and guitar playing.
Also, the second chorus has a different rhythm and tempo than the first chorus, and that's where they start with the galloping… not the first chorus. And I thought that's pretty unique for a song to do that. Then the middle melody / instrumental section is more galloping, and there's a few key changes and this amazing melodic and vocal bridge before it mostly goes away from the gallop again.... but goes on to one more galloping chorus with the song slowing right down during the last few bars, before going to a whisper quiet coda. Quiet... and Dark.
Masterful. The minimalism in most of this track is perfect, they only add in these changes as needed but mostly maintain a great tension. They let the listener participate and interact with that tension and space.
Growing up, this was easily one of my most listened records, so this was a real treat! Thank you!
Its kind of fascinating to see such analytic videos about the music i listen to for over three decades.
Its a pleasure even to watch those, if the analyst is obviously enjoying the music so much.
I think “Blood Brothers” from the same show would be a great reaction. If you haven’t already.
You really took the best version to react to. I was there. It was just as impressive live. :)
