The thing is that recent live videos don't show that off. It's unfortunate but the poor guy does seem to be loosing range in his old age and he can't hold his notes as long. Nothing against him, Bruce is a legend and the kind of show he puts on would be difficult at any age but to hear him at his live best try a show from the mid 80s
Not only is Bruce a singer, he's a championship fencer, award winning author, a pilot, he also beat throat cancer, watch any of the songs off the "book of souls" tour & thats him singing after his bout with cancer
Welcome to Iron Maiden, one thing always struck me about them. Unlike other live perfomances and bands, these guys always look like they are having fun, the most important point about music.
"Would I go and pay money to experience it myself? Probably not." That's what Fratello Metallo thought. He was an Italian capucine monk who wanted to see for himself what was that devil's music. Then he went to see a Metallica concert, and following his experience, became a metal singer.
Hehehe ... the devil's tricks... I love them! There was a similar case in Greece. Father Panteleimon (πατήρ Παντελεήμων), he was member of a band formed of priests and monks with the name "Παπαροκάδες" (free translation: the rock-priests). They played "christian pop-rock" that praised God, orthodox christianity, and against the new world order and the RFID chips. Eventually he abandoned the priesthood to became a hardcore metal singer. Musically however, they had some interesting songs...for example song title: "Έμαθα Ελεύθερος Να Ζω" (translation: I learned to live free). Today you can hear the former priest Panteleimon as a singer for the Greek metal band "Diviner". Search on RUclips for "Diviner - Heaven Falls" ...devilishly funny title ha?? Hehehe!! \m/
He was also the singer for a band that made a tribute live for Ronnie James Dio for charitable purpose (Rock in Dio). Search it on RUclips if you like Dio...ex-father Panteleimon made an exellent job with the vocals. One of the best vocal cover singers of Dio... Title: "ROCK 'N' ROLL CHILDREN "Heaven and Hell" ROCK IN DIO Vol4 by METAL HAMMER" There are more songs of this live on RUclips. The band's name is "Rock N Roll Children".
There are reasons why this band has been one of the best live acts you can ever see for over 30 years. Their energy still, after all these years, the way they involve the audience and the fact that their audience consists of three generations all make it a very special experience. Live I have yet to experience better.
Cool reaction. For versatility in the music, check out Rhime of the Ancient Mariner, if you are interested in a little more Iron Maiden. It is based on the famous poem of the same title.
Maiden is all duelling leads!.. . makes my heart swell to see people understand and appreciate this music.. Maiden and others have sustained our souls for decades now.
I've seen this band 5 times. It's not just a concert. It's like a family reunion. They're really good at getting the crowd involved. See them if you get a chance.
If you haven’t already react to Nightwish. As an opener I would suggest Ghost Love Score live from Wacken 2013.Tuomas the keyboard player is the composer and songwriter for the band. They are Finnish with a Dutch powerhouse female singer called Floor Jansen and Symphonic Metal.
Try "Alexander the great" from the album somewhere in time or the song "to tame a land" from the album piece of mind from iron maiden. Cheers from Greece
Yes and those of us who have been listening to this music since it came out, get to live vicariously through new people and their first time hearing it and reacting to it. Thank You
Going to the beginning to see how things were back in the year 1. It seems like we owe Dan thanks for suggesting reaction videos - thanks, Dan! I also enjoy how your reactions have evolved over time. I think you would go see that concert now...
"Would I pay to see them? Certainly not." Poor man! I'd pay and go anywhere just to see IRON MAIDEN live again. To feel the vibes and attend the crowd. They get better by every concert for more than 35 years now. UP THE IRONS!
I just watched your Iron Maiden playlist in reverse order. I smiled when you said in this video that you wouldn’t pay to see them. Glad you have changed your mind. ❤️
I love how understanding you are with things that aren't your comfort zone, like reaction videos, or metal music. And also how you analyse them to find what's special about things that maybe you didn't consider special before
Man, your analysis at the beginning of why reaction vids are appealing is so spot on! I like them myself and i had a hard time figuring out why I liked them so much, but you hit the nail in the head. Thank you for this vid and your great insights!
Loved seeing your first reaction to Iron Maiden and loved how you picked a live version, Many metal bands conduct their audience in that manner, they have such a dedicated following and do it so well it is truly an experience to see and experience live! Love the Channel!
Any and all of the "LIFE AFTER DEATH" album. Absolutely epic live performances. My favourite is "hallowed be thy name" it was the first song I'd ever heard from maiden and still gives me goose bumps decades later!! An unsuspecting little boy, sat down by my dad, who was probably sick of the pop/chart music I was listening to, massive headphones put on me an he hit play... just WOW!
Btw, i started listening to JSBach, vivaldi and mozart BECAUSE i started listening to heavy metal. The music has alot of similarities in composition, and toccata and fugue is probably the 1st true heavy metal ever. Metallica also did exceptional work with classical influences in the 2-4th albums with cliff burtons bass standing out. Orion by metallica is a masterpiece instrumental on a bass.
Great reaction!! I've been a Maiden fan for as long as I can remember and it was fascinating to hear someone break down one of their tracks from a musically theoretical standpoint. Despite being a musician myself, albeit *very* amateur, I had never picked up on, for example, that there's a key change here for the guitar solos.
I used to listen to this song, walking through Balboa Park at 3:00 in the morning. I'm not afraid of the dark. Or anything in the dark. (maybe I Am the dark.)
One of the first bands I got into 30 odd years ago, seen a few times live, an amazing show always! Prob one of the best ones to react to, seeing how the fans get involved too. Good to see you can appreciate them even though not your cup of tea! Love your channel too!
Maiden live are the best group live on the planet. Being at a concert like that front row center is something you never forget. I saw monsters of rock 95, metallica headlined, i collapsed after metallica ended, i virtually crawled to the tent and slept. Next morning awoke so hyped i was bouncing, and that next evening was still same. That was the leftover adrenilin..
Fear of the Dark is not the most interesting song they have ever done, composition-wise. Something like Alexander the Great, Rime of the Ancient Mariner, To Tame a Land or Phantom of the Opera might be more to your liking. A solid live version though.
Have you ever listened to Nightwish? Symphonic metal band from Finland & they are awesome. I suspect you'll like their compositions. They're often likened to epic musicals from movies. Ghost Love Score from Wacken 2013 is probably their most popular track in youtubeland, but I adore their version of The Phantom of the Opera from the End of an Era concert.

Great insight on reaction videos. I find that I get caught up in the emotion and excitement of the person watching/listening to something I have many times. There are some songs that I never get tired of hearing though, this song is one of them (especially live).
There are so many 70's bands that would love to hear a classic music person interpret for us. Fool's Overture by Supertramp. Dancing with the Moonlit Night by Genesis, Awaken by yes. so many choices that sounds even better with an orchestra behind them.
I've seen the five times live both in the states and in Germany and they are always amazing. Listening to you react to them and break down their music was enlightening. Will be interesting to say you find something that moves you.
Maiden obviously has 3 guitarists, so because of that, they are panned specifically. Janik Gers (first solo) is panned one way, Dave Murray (second solo) is panned the opposite side. With their third guitarist (adrian smith) is panned equally in left and right.
I think most of their live albums are mixed that way. Live After Death from '85 was as I remember listening to it on a double cassette!! I think i wore the tapes out!
Its become mandatory to sing along to this song.. the crowd goes loudest for this song, this and Metallica's Memory Remains, cant best these two classics
I'm a life long Maiden fan, well since my early teens and I've seen them several times, the best tour has to be the recent Legacy of the Beast tour. I saw them in Manchester and Bruce had recovered from tongue/throat cancer, he was on fire. I took my Dad and Sister with me, my sis was never a Metal or Maiden fan but she respected their work ethic and musicianship, she called that gig the best she's ever seen.
As a long time Maiden fan...what I find fun and what made me click...is hearing what a composer thinks, of some awesome old school metal from a more technical perspective. Thumbs up!
We want professionals to technically analyze iron maiden music and vindicate their music so others can understand why we love this band so much..they are truly renaissance men.

You absolutely nailed the reason why watching reactors is so compelling. Even though it's vicareous, it's the closest it's possible to get to that first-time buzz and in these days when there are no gigs on, and so little new material in cinema or tv as a result of CV19, that little bit of the original wonder and joy is more valuable than ever.
