    The reason Iron Maiden and many classic metal bands are so often in Em is because it's conducive to a guitar in standard tuning. Many bands will downtune to Eb live, so you get Ebm. Lowest string on your normal guitar or bass is E, and you want that to hit heavy and hard. E ends up usually being the tonic so you're resolving to a high-impact place. Hence the most common key change is up to F# and back to the low E.

      Well said. That's exactly it

    • @jeffshafer9079
      @jeffshafer9079 3 года назад +4

      It’s also Steve’s bass setup. On the 4-string P-bass you can just slap the crap out of the A string, mid-fretboard, and get a nice, fat sound. He plays it low-action with heavy-gauge flatwounds and literally bounces the strings off the neck. It’s all I wanted to learn as a 17 year old and I can still do it today. Now if my left hand were as fast as my right hand, I’d be a millionaire!

    THIS was the song Maiden fans waited an eternity for. They were on top of the metal world in the late 80's. Then Adrian (white guitar) left the band. Then Bruce left. A few albums with a new singer. Bruce did a few solo albums, as did Adrian, but something was missing. When they reunited in 99, fans rejoiced. In 2000, they released Brave new world. Not an epic album, but they were all back together, so it was good enough. Then they released this album and song next. It was classic Maiden. The "horse gallop" beat, the changing tempo. Epic story-telling. It was what we were craving!
