Growing up in mexico, my grandma didn't really have the money to pay for hbo, so we just had it very sporadically whenever there was some kind of offer going on - but when we had it, oh boy, it came in a packet with nickelodeon, so i would watch tv ALL DAY, i was so happy. Maybe no the best outcome for a child now that i think of it, but i went on to study film so maybe it was fine idk
I was 10 years old and living in a foster home in '72. If I remember correctly, HBO wasn't around the clock when it first appeared for the masses. What grey cells I haven't demolished since then, tell me that a short cartoon of a woman putting her cat out for the evening signaled the end of that particular night's broadcast. At least that's the way I remember it 😎
The first time I watched something with that intro was March 5, 2023, on the first episode of the Last of Us adaptation. My parents never had HBO in any form, and I didn’t get around to getting a subscription until then, when my love for The Last of Us motivated me. Over the next several months, I binged many of HBO’s most noteworthy series; encompassing most of the best shows I have yet seen. When I heard that sound at the beginning of this video, Game of Thrones did come to mind, as it had far more episodes than any of the other shows I watched, but the Last of Us, being the first, also came strongly to mind.
clicked the video for the title, stayed for the editing and narration i feel like the art of the youtube video essay is suffering nowadays so it was refreshing to see this ^^
I hear the GoT intro, just like I hear the Star Wars theme every time I hear the 20th Century Fox fanfare. I love that kind of imprinting on our psyches. There's a great 20khz podcast episode about the history of HBO's audio branding. Might even be a two-parter?
This video is absolutely awesome. It makes me sad that it's your lowest viewed video. I guess you could do something with the thumbnail. I feel like the CTR maybe isn't that great?
This makes it all the more confusing why they recently decided to drop HBO from their brand. What are they thinking? Max? That's such a terrible brand, makes me think of... Cinemax.

Thanks mate. I’ll maybe have a mess around with some other thumbnail designs and see if that changes anything
As a Scandinavian: Sopranos. Not many HBO things before that was syndicated over here.
Entourage!
I remember this HBO theme intro from George Carlin Specials😂
I think of silicon valley
What a great show!

Definitely think of euphoria haha
I’ve literally just finished watching Euphoria for the first time. Might even make a video on it when the new season is out :)
Fantastic videos, very thoughtful and raising ideas that we never thought about before. Thanks! Wish you much more viewers.
