Watching you give all these helpful hints makes me wish I had many more years in my life to make all the projects you come up with. From folding the batting, slitting the folds, then using that bookbinder needle, a running stitch for ¼" seam before whip stitching the opening - - to the plastic bag for easier insertion and button/carpet thread for tying it - great instructions - as always :-) This one made a little bit bigger out of denim with a colorful print border would even be nice for a primary-age or middle school child to have in a tree house. My mind is wandering some more. . . I could see a young mother (or grandmother) taking a pre-school child with her to the fabric store and letting the child help choose the fabrics for the front and back of this cushion or even letting them watch as you assembled it a little each day. Then when it was reading time, ask the child which side they want to sit on today (either with you or by their self). And while we're at it, why not make two of them - so there's one for a friend to nap on at a play date afternoon or a sleepover? Momentary choices that train that child to make decisions - and making memories with them along the way. "Readers Are Leaders!"
Sure a tree house! I grew up in a large family in a small house, so I was always looking for ways to "get away from it all" even at a young age. A good Nancy Drew mystery to read in a tree house sitting on a cushion like yours would be like having your own bedroom all to yourself for an afternoon. Oh to be young again in the 1950's . . .
Oh, THANK YOU, Laura! This is yet Another GENIUS idea. My daughter has an old dog with arthritic hips. This is a PERFECT solution and one that I can manage to make for her without asking for her help!
I am a part-time child care provider. This is a great idea for those that need naps in playrooms that aren't nap-friendly. I think I'd make it a pillowcase with foam so parents can remove the cover and wash. You always have great ideas and fun projects.
I so love all you teach us. This is a wonderful beginner project for me to learn. As for a suggestion about storage and portability...I use old men’s leather belts with a buckle so you can use an awl to poke new holes for adjustments when rolling. In the house you can use those large bright colored plastic laundry baskets to store when not in use and easily accessible for kids when they need them. Please write a book of all your projects and keep those videos coming!
I was thinking you could do this for a dog bed or in a kennel. Newbeequilter you are so right about all your ideas. I will suggest those to my daughter. She has 2 little ones. :)
😍😍❤❤ oh I have been searching for months on how to make a nice large floor pillow, and I finally found your video!!! I'm so excited I can't wait to get started. Thank you for sharing!!!
Thanks. Another home run Laura! I have a first grandchild on the way and think this will be perfect for nap and play. I've had some very thick high loft batting taking up space for some time. Can't wait to put it to use. Maybe use some of my minky too! On another note, I brought the hanging door pockets to our sew club and everyone wanted your you tube site.
Lovely idea thanks, Laura . This is a must do . Have been trying to decide what to make for a friends new baby, gender unknown, so this is a great idea. Thanks foe always giving such clear and easy instructions to follow. Fond regards from South Africa.
I have been making pillow beds for my grand children, however I wish I had seen this first. I think this would work so well with a pillow bed. I have to make a new one this year since my youngest grand child is turning 2 and she really wants a pillow bed. Love this method. However I am going to make several of these for my home when my grand kids will get to come back over. It is so hard with the Covid not seeing them.
That's a really great idea! I'm definitely going to try this!!! Thank you for taking time out of your busy day to share this great tutorial with us here on RUclips!!!!
love, love, love this project! Perfect for little ones, and if like me, new babies outgrow some of the gifts I have purchased, I may make this my go-to baby gift!! thanks for all the great videos and ideas!
love this. gonna try and make this as a nap mat for my nephew and niece. they start school soon. also gonna try and attach a blanket to it. thank for the helpful video! - Nalei from Hawaii :)
Greetings, The cover for my baby mat is too loose. I need to take in each of the long sides one inch, therefore, should the corners be cut 3 inches instead of two? Thank you for all you do and all I have learned from you.
You never cease to amaze me! I was looking for a child or toddler's "Chase Lounge". Took a look on your channel to see what you may have listed. When I saw this I thought it would work! Have you seen the chaise lounges they have made!? Anyway... I have a feeling I'm going to be making one of these in the very near future for each of my three youngest grandchildren. The one on the way? He'll have to wait a while!
Laura I just love watching your videos you explain everything so detailed step by step do you have a sewing project book out there I would love to buy one cause I wanna make everything your a wonderful inspiration for sewing I enjoy it very much
I have been looking for hiw to make my own dog beds for my giant great pyrenees they want so much for them in the pet stores. I didnt want to use stuffing as it would end up lumpy and my girls would not like that. Iam going to change my size a little to make it a little shorter but I just know this will work perfect for them. Thank you so much .
Thank you for this easy to follow video! I made my first one yesterday!! I was wondering about 2 things: 1) I had a difficult time measuring and cutting such a large piece of fabric. Do you have any tips to make the perfect cut? 2) at the end you mention removing the basting. Can you elaborate on this a little bit please? I haven’t heard of that before. Thank you again! My son loves his giant pillow :)
Glad your son is enjoying is pillow:) and to make that perfect cut, if you have a large table it helps. Press and fold your fabric so that it fits flat on the table top. You can fold it more than once but keep all the folds straight and use the fold line as your guild. And I'm not sure what you mean about the basting! What is basting? Basting is big stitches that hold fabric together temporary, sort of like lots of pins! hope that helps:)
My only question is how would you wash this? It doesn't look like it would fit in a washing machine but I could be wrong. I would love to make it as a dog bed too. Thank you for your wonderful tutorials.
Is there a way to make this as to where it can be made to fold inside a easy clean waterproof pouch that is easy to pack on a road trip or onto a plane. As my husband and I travel quite a bit for work and we take our children with us when it allows. Thank you
this may be a silly question but can this be washable? 😊 i’m trying to figure out how to make one of these for my Wonderfold Wagon. it’s like a mini playpin on wheels lol literally!
Hi Laura. I'm from Surrey BC. I love the giraffe panels you've shown in this tutorial. Would you please share the manufacturer detains on the panels. Thanks so much and tutorial on. I always watch
Another great video Laura. I've always used Warm and Natural batting for my quilts and my son doesn't care for them. He would like a thick puffy quilt. My question is are high loft battings made to be machine quilted or used only in tie quilts? I would have to double up the layers and I think, you confirm, that would be impossible to quilt by machine. I have a Juki that can sew many layers of denim easily. I would be making at least a twin size. Thank you gal -- stay warm!
can u pls make me floor pillow cover.. so it ll b easy to wash it regularly when it gets dirty.. ur videos r really helpful ur doing a awesum wrk...👌👌👌 keep it up...👍👍👍
Laura, where do I purchase "big hole sharp point book binder needle"? Only ones I can find online are blunt needles and some reviews mention that eyes are not large. I enjoy watching and learning from all your videos. Thank you
that plastic bag trick........I learned that years ago when I washed my futon cushion cover and got soooooo frustrated getting things all back together
darling! I have a brand new 1 month old grand boy, and I have a 1 yr old great grand. I think I will need to make one that will be loved by both. My sons can have one at each house for their boys to sleep on while visiting. .
This is perfect for camping, picnics or even at the beach when the babies get tired open the wagon trunk door and Waller a bed👏👏👏
Just found this tutorial. Love it! It's so cute and easy to make. Thank you for the clear instructions. Take care and blessings to ya'll.

Exactly what I was looking for. For my grandbabies. The only thing I would add to it. Is a waterproof cover. Thank you for sharing

Great project Laura, this would be great to make for my grand baby. Thanks for sharing.
I know what you mean:)
I was looking for a tutorial just like this one!
Thank you so much Laura!
Greetings, The cover for my baby mat is too loose. I need to take in each of the long sides one inch, therefore, should the corners be cut 3 inches instead of two? Thank you for all you do and all I have learned from you.
I think putting in a zipper in the cover would be best so you can take it off to wash it.
I prefer to have one more cover so easy to take the second one to wash.

Love your ideas Laura.

That is so adorable. I might make this for my daughter.
Have fun!
Wow I wonder if she can make a wolf blanket for a two year-old same size and the same white fill or am I going to have to get crafty.
LOVE the project!! Needs a strap to roll it up with or a carrying case to put it away in.
good idea!
Laura I just love watching your videos you explain everything so detailed step by step do you have a sewing project book out there I would love to buy one cause I wanna make everything your a wonderful inspiration for sewing I enjoy it very much

Thank you Laura, Have a new GrandBaby on the way, this will be a great asset. Just in time for what I needed. I love your videos.
My only question is how would you wash this? It doesn't look like it would fit in a washing machine but I could be wrong. I would love to make it as a dog bed too. Thank you for your wonderful tutorials.
My daughter has this and washes it all the time. She just tosses it in the washer and dryer :)
I can see a variation of this would be extremely useful for me. Thanks for the inspiration

Hi Laura. I'm from Surrey BC. I love the giraffe panels you've shown in this tutorial. Would you please share the manufacturer detains on the panels. Thanks so much and tutorial on. I always watch
Yes it is Susybees www.worldofsusybee.com/textiles.html

it is not the thickness that is the trouble, it is the fabric shifting. You would have to baste very well
Stunning
can u pls make me floor pillow cover.. so it ll b easy to wash it regularly when it gets dirty..
ur videos r really helpful ur doing a awesum wrk...👌👌👌 keep it up...👍👍👍
Can an adult sleeping bag be made like this? What would be the measurement of the batting?
Love you Laura, you are really great.
Thank you and thank you for watching:)
I love this pillow. Is it possible to make it with yardage and if so how much yardage is needed. Thanks
you will need two pieces of fabric 36" x 45" for each side plus 1 yd for the sides
Thank you so much!
Very nice project!
thanks
Laura, thanks for this video!...how would you recommend washing it?
mayra minaca I would suggest going to a laundry mat to use their big washers.
big laundry mat machine
You are great. Thank you!!!
Laura, where do I purchase "big hole sharp point book binder needle"? Only ones I can find online are blunt needles and some reviews mention that eyes are not large. I enjoy watching and learning from all your videos. Thank you
I have found them in a package with other big needles, like doll making, book making, craft needles etc:)
that plastic bag trick........I learned that years ago when I washed my futon cushion cover and got soooooo frustrated getting things all back together
It is a life saver
Laura, so adorable
thanks
Now that's a cute idea.
thanks
How would you reccomend do this for an adult size?
I am loving all your tutorials!!
Yes, lay out your batting and measure the thickness and go with that measurement
Thank you!
darling! I have a brand new 1 month old grand boy, and I have a 1 yr old great grand. I think I will need to make one that will be loved by both. My sons can have one at each house for their boys to sleep on while visiting. .

Great video. My pups thank you.
haha I was wondering if someone would see that too:)
Great size❤🎉
Great idea! Thank you!
thanks for watching
Perfect!
hi there - did I miss week two of the Glorious and Free - Hope I didn't miss it.
No you are good, The last Thursday of Month, Feb 23
How would you compare using foam versus batting? I am wondering when you would choose one over the other.
Batting would make it soft but the foam gives it support, so it can stand on its own:)
Sorry, for this project I used the batting because It has a nice finish, You could use a thick foam.
Where can i buy that giraffe material from please
How hard would it be to close with a zipper?
