Great to see you back up on the Moors in a tent Chris. I always thoroughly enjoy a Chris JB video. I know where you are coming from with Winter Wild Camping. I went out last night on to The West Pennine Moors. Really enjoyed it, but I had spent all day considering excuses not to go. Too much gear to take, too long in the tent. Probably not sleep for being cold etc. In the event I had a great nights sleep and enjoyed sauagae, mash fried onions and gravy, washed down with a few double chocca mocca coffees, whilst star gazing in the middle of nowhere. Then listened to the footy on the radio. In winter I take my OEX Bobcat, tiny tent once it's ziped up but incredibely warm. In fact I had a thermometer outside and one in the inner tent. 8 degrees difference. Incredible really for two sheets of polyester or whatever they're made off. Anyway, It's rekindled my enthusiasm and I'll be back out next week. Looking forward to your next adventure. Hope your elbow doesn't cause you too much pain.
Many thanks Alan. For various reasons I've been a bit slack getting out and as a result not putting much on You Tube. I'm hoping as the days lengthen and the birds start singing my enthusiasm will start to blossom again. I like my Scarp and am very familiar with it but I have seen it described as a cold tent though I've nothing to compare it with. ATB, Chris
That sounded like a nasty fall Chris, but like you say people more attentive when older! But know the feeling dealing with sheet ice over footpaths. We' ve been up to BlackHill in warmer weather. Excellent filming techniques Chris, but rather you than me camping out in those conditions. Well done for tackling though up on Saddleworth Moor. Hope your elbow recovers !
Thanks Shanita. I was sore for a couple of days, but was fine afterwards. I was back on Saddleworth Moor, just walking, yesterday. It was thick with freezing fog. 🥶
Its always good to see one of your adventures Chris. Sorry to hear about your fall, I know exactly how you feel, I used to bounce when i fell, now I break!
Hi Chris, hopefully no lasting injuries from the tumble. I used to love snow and ice....now not so much! I've kept to local, lower ground during this last cold spell. Well done for getting out, it looked an inhospitable place. Thanks for filming, editing and sharing. ATB Alistair 👍
How do Alistair. Even though snow is good or a decent hoar frost, I do struggle a bit in the winter. I think it's the short days and lack of bird-song, flowers, etc. Saddleworth Moor is a cracking place and very handy being pretty local. Hope you are well. ATB, Chris
Love that walk up Issues road, did it couple weeks ago with wife and dog, blowing a reet gale at black hill do we nipped down to wrigleys cabin for a brew. Camped there couple times but never seem to get a flat spot, always rolling down hill🤣.Good to see you out again Chris👍

It's great to be out on the moors in the winter snow, but the chances of that are much rarer these days. Glad you had the opportunity. Time to look forward to warmer days now. Best wishes Chris.
I agree Michael. It's the grey wetness of the typical winters we get nowadays that I really struggle with. I am ready for spring too. Hope you and Shanita are well.
Great video - well done for getting out in the snow. My camping days are limited to the warmer months. Can see that the world looks different in the ice.

Hi Chris. First time seeing your video but enjoyed it. Shame you didn't get a shot of the mountain hare. They are fantastic though, have seen on Kinder before. Just wanted to ask though, what tent were you using? Cheers.
Hello Dave. A change of area probably would help, but the local hills are handy when you decide to go out at very short notice, or don't fancy a long drive. I have a bit of a funny relationship with the Lakes. I have a strong attachment to some parts, but others, for me are, dare I say it.....overrated 😬.
Hi Chris, That video was a true tonic, as I sit here dripping and sneezing from an un invited infestation by some sneaky virus. How many calories are there in paracetamol?
Lol... sheep are trixy, skittish buggers. You need to be mindful around lambing time; the odd one will push you to protect their young and beng heavy, and at knee height, it can end badly. I tend to give them a wide berth where possible. 🤣
These were very skittish, though spending a lot of time on my auntie and uncle's farm as a lad, they used to let me help out with various jobs with the animals so I'm pretty comfortable around them. I do remember a bloody big aggressive ram they had though.
I could not camp on Saddleworth Moor, there a children buried on that moor thanks to Hindley and Brady. You could be walking and pitching your tent were they lay.
Unfortunately, Saddleworth Moor will always be associated with those crimes from the 60s. However, there is so much more to the Moor than that. There are great walks, landscapes, wildlife, etc. As for the camp spot, it was several miles away from where the police focussed their searches.
@@ChrisJB The police had no idea where they were only what Hindley told them, they may have been buried miles away from the searches. Despite the great walks etc you could be where those children are laid. Your post made me physically sick but hey why let those poor children spoil your fun
@@janicejohnson6372 Most know that Saddleworth Moor has sad associations, but it is in a National Park, the Pennine Way crosses it and a large part of it is a nature reserve managed by the RSPB. It's a place of recreation for many. With that in mind, it is always going to be a popular place with folk who have a love for nature and the great outdoors. And so it should be. It is entirely possible to have a respectful awareness of the past, whilst still being able to enjoy the present.
@@ChrisJB As a nature reserve I have no problem with but otherwise I cannot think of s sadder place for recreation. I think the families of those children would agree with me,lets hope none of them come across the video like I did.
I think the areas the police searched were very close to the roads. Chris is miles away from the road areas. The moors are extremely beautiful and peaceful once you get away from the main tourist areas.
WOW another great adventure,I love it up there, the moors from Black Hill down to Crowden will be trudged when I head to hear the Longdendale Cuckoo(s) and then back to Marsden via Pennine Way.
ATB for 2025 Chris. 🍻👍⛺️
Read that again Dave🤣🤦♂️
@ lol 😂 🙏🍻
Thanks Dave, same to you.
WOW another great adventure,I love it up there, the moors from Black Hill down to Crowden will be trudged when I head to hear the Longdendale Cuckoo(s) and then back to Marsden via Pennine Way. Glad you had a fabulous time and managed to see Mountain Hare... HAPPY NEW YEAR. Cheers (was that Wrigley's Hut? Never actually seen it but bumped into a chap called Wrigley a couple of years ago in Black Hill area, from Manchester, distantly related to the Chewing Gum people.
@bobharrison4711 Thanks Bob. I initially planned to walk to Black Hill from Crowden but the blocked road ruined that. Wrigley is a Saddleworth name. I'm a big fan of the old Saddleworth author, Ammon Wrigley.
Brrrr!
It was chilly for sure Karen. 🥶
Thanks for the video Chris. A joy and an education to watch as always.
Thanks Paul. 🙂
