We should try to sneak into Amtrak yards in the middle of the night and clean out the K5LAs thoroughly so that they'll all sound this good. I know that's easier said than done.
I can picture it now. Amtrak's National Limited running the PRR between Richmond, IN and Indianapolis; or even Amtrak's Cardinal on C&O's Miami Subdivision. Definitely like the sound, sir!
She's sounds so beautiful 🥺
Fr it dose!
1:05 - 2:07 is my favorite
0:41 has a great Doppler affect
Sounds like a f40ph going to heaven
THIS IS THE BEST K5LA I HAVE EVER HEARD!!!!!!!
Hauntingly beautiful!!
That is probably one of the best sounding K5LAs I have ever heard.
Same.
I honestly want more of this! This is easily the best K5LA I’ve ever heard!
Do you happen to know what unit it came off of or at least what type?
I don't think so. It's black, not blue or silver.
Alex Paumen If it's black, then it's almost certainly an F40PH K5LA.
Finally found the K5LA sound you used in one of your videos a while back lol.
Truly awesome!!!
Man that sounds MUCH better!
that thing sounds incredible!

Alex Paumen I can't even tell you how much I agree with you! 😂
Wish we could clean cdtx 8312s K5LA its sounded horrendous for years now
I'm with y'all. It sure would be a nice gesture, with the added benefit of that nostalgic early K5LA sound as a reward for the hard cleaning work 😎🎺
Sneak into the yards and replace all the raised letter K5LAs with this beautiful K5LA!
WOW that is so Beautiful Sounding!!!!
Freakin' badass echoes!!! Best K5LA recording on RUclips!!!!!
Great horns! This brings me back to the days when I was just starting out as a railfan in a way few other things could.
Beautiful horn!
Yes, this really is the best K5LA on youtube... Jesus Christ in a taxi-cab... =o
great sound!
@CoasterFan2105 Original owner did not know, but odds are heavy it was a F40PH. For the era that was all that Amtrak was getting.
To protect it from things from getting into it...
when you get it done, tell me so i can get it
Beautiful!!! :D
7 years later, this is still one of the best K5LAs around. Wish I still owned it...
P Martin I get Nostalgic

Is there an "A" stamped into the #3a bell, if not than its definatly an late 70's/early80's model
I think it's only a #3a if it has the A stamped into the side. Otherwise, it would be a #3, right?
Alex N No. There is no #3A bell with A stamped. This model is off of a P40DC.
This horn belongs in Washington to get those amazing echos!
Sexiest horn I've ever heard besides the RS5T

makes you cry? okay, that's a bit obsessive.
Reminds me of the Amtrak Carolinians I record for RUclips great horn
Very nice sounding horns.
I like the newest gen k5's but it's good to hear old gen k5la's too.
Did you have a Large Bore #5 on this one?
Big bore?
@Hightrain12 Go ahead. Just give proper credit.
@Hightrain12 Would it sound correctly? With the Doppler effect and echoes?
How did you get ahold of the horns? Sounds great!
Are you just using a graham white valve to the the horn to fire, or something else?
What are the chances it is from an F40PH?
Or a P40DC?
hunter dawso P40DC. It was off of 25 before it got uprated. It used to be 808.
