  • In this video we go out to an existing customer's house to work on a failed Goodman furnace. I have followed up with this customer since the repair and there have been no more issues with the furnace failing to fire after a couple of follow ups with the customer. The gas valve did not hesitate at all on the follow up fires. I did mention the hesitation to the homeowner. He decided to let it ride unless there were more issues in the future.

    Nice call. Very thorough work flow. On the small brushes for those ports, I picked up a set of them at Harbor Freight. They come on a ring. 5 different sizes, all small size and I have already used them. Same issue. Clogged port. You'll find them in the wire brush isle. Small packet hanging on back board. Cheap too. My HVAC life put a call out for subscription help so I subbed to your chan. Already like what I see. Good vid.

      Yeah, I have a set from Harbor Freight as well. They are longer than what I have stashed in my bag though. Thanks for the heads up. Good looking out.

    The old switcherooski.
    I was just in that neighborhood yesterday. That guy just keeps adding on more and more every year to his Halloween stuff. He must spend a fortune on it.

      That switch you recommended is sweet! Yeah, it seems to get bigger and bigger. Must have lots of expendable income.

    I know I'm quite late, but that trap should be primed and if it isn't you'll have draining issues as the inducer motor will pull a vacuum through the drains.

      I did prime the trap. Mentioned it in the video. I have seen them fire fine though without the trap being primed on a first fire of the season. I always like to prime them though.

      @@JakePorterHVAC Yea it's a rare case I only mention it cause I've gotten a call back from it. Didn't notice you did it in the video my apologies!

    How often do you find a pressure switch that actually failed?

    • @JakePorterHVAC
      @JakePorterHVAC  3 месяца назад +3

      Definitely have found them. Don't know how often though. Never tracked it. Goodman pressure switches from Costa Rica like to fall apart. Literally crumble. The terminals along with part of the plastic will break off the rest of the pressure switch. They are probably the type that I have to replace the most. I work on lots of Goodman though. Older furnaces had more durable pressure switches in them. My 29 year old 90+ furnace still has the original pressure switch. These newer ones are built like trash. We just got another Goodman dealer here. The old York and Bosch dealer moved to Daikin and Goodman. Just a FYI, other manufacturers are using the Costa Rican pressure switches now as well. They are not built well.

      Not very common but you do find them occasionally. I went to the same furnace on three different calls. Every time I would go it was the same issue. Runs good until it gets near freezing and then it would actually up. I thought at first it was under sized flue piping but eventually the pressure switch failed completely. Since I replaced it, they haven't had any issues again so far.
