Over the years, I've noticed that some people love to flash large bills. I don't flash cash where I live. It invites pick pockets and other criminal types.
Great video Ted it’s better to be safe than sorry as HVAC technicians. Our main concern is customer safety and if you feel the unit is not safe you explain it to the customer and you do the right thing you did the right thing as always. Great video. Stay safe out there Ted
Good job Ted, I've adjusted many of those regulators, and none of them smelled like gas with the adjustment cap off. They're not supposed to leak. That cap is more of just a dust cap, and keep fingers out of it... diaphragm is leaking on that one.
Only a well seasoned and experienced tech can fish a screw behind the gas valve with his fingers and manipulate the camera at the same time without dropping the screw. 👍🏻 I like that new Klein ratchet driver kit, but not as a regular use screwdriver
Another great one Ted. So many would have looked at the age and said, "yeah, time to replace." You tried to save it - it just couldn't be saved. I would love to see the finished product once the replacement is done.
“We dont necessarily need a light” said no warranty service tech in my state (victoria, Australia) Wish more techs shared that mentality Ted. I appreciate the work and your videos give me motivation when i start hating the industry
Good job, the Goodman stamped steel burners have the little flame jumper to jump to the next burner during ignition and I have found that quenched area full of lint giving delayed ignition there not the best furnace although they do leave you bleeding with all that sharp metal.
Yessiree...that gas plumbing Christmas tree is a contraption. The shaking is likely the heat exchanger due to cracks and weakened. I'd have thought a longer nut driver would give your left hand the room to twist it right on in...also less chance of the socket slipping with a longer shaft driver as you twist it. Looked like there was room for one anyway. Yes...time for a new system, review of ducting, returns, filter ideas, etc. Too bad...that system looked to be in good condition.
Klein makes an earth magnet with key chain mount doesn't fit every size too or extension but I've found it will magnetize just about any too long enough to put difficult screws in. Not a bad 5 -10 dollar purchase
Those old Goodman furnace s in the hx there is a couple of screws that either came loose or someone didn't put back. Those screw dn the hx in the cabinet. And liability is the key, you don't want to be a liability of someone dies or no one wakes up. Red tag when in doubt. Good call Ted.
There's a Klein Tools model 32304 screwdriver that's HVAC specific. For tight spaces, there's also "Klein Tools 65200 Ratchet Set, 5-Piece Mini Ratchet Set". Amazon offers both.
I wonder if Mickey-rat crawled in there some time ago and passed, unbalancing the blower. There are two more videos to make out of this; the changeout is one, and the post-mortem is the other. I don't know if it would quite fit on the stubby, but there are magnetic collars you can get that go on the shafts of screwdrivers to make the tip magnetic.
Hey buddy I got a question I has train about this and my other factory representative I've been having problems here in South Florida well actually mid Florida what's the lizards getting over and around behind the circuit boards and shorten them out I was told by train don't put any kind of wire mesh or anything around them to keep them out they said it will impede on the airflow and caused the board to overheat which sounds okay I guess but what do you think to keep the losers out this is only on package units and split units with condensers outside with boards ever since colvic hit it's been difficult to get boards especially for some of the older units so if I can avoid it by not having the lizards short amount and cook them out I would rather do that let me know
What is the purpose of the extra regulator in the attic? Should be one outside at the meter, and one in each appliance. Was the gas line undersize, and they had to Jack up the pressure? We have two stage propane, with a high pressure regulator at the tank, and a low pressure regulator at the house. Is that the case here?
My GMP100 was 28 years old and still running when I replaced it. At 17 years, the burners would intermittently go out right after lighting. I had replaced the flame sensor the year before because the ceramic had cracked. Eventually, I replaced the control board and that fixed the problem.
Bad ground connection to the burners can also do that. I was thinking with all that shaking going on might have made something come loose where the burner housing bolts onto the heat exchanger plate, or ground wire screw came loose.
Being a mechanic I see so many techs that could benefit from a 1/4 ratchet with a couple extensions and universal joint. Like behind that valve, even easier with a cordless 1/4 ratchet with flexible extension would have been easy. And even a cheapo harbor freight would easily hold up to sheet metal use.
Hey Ted what replacement options did the customer go with for indoor and outdoor? I’d imagine these days with the outrageous pricing of equipment single stage looks very good these days hahaha. Take care Ted
i had one i looked at yesterday, that was tripping the high limit fault at 109F not 120F, but it was tripping it quicker than i could probe up and check to see if it opened up. i wound up bypassing it and monitoring the temperature with my temp probe till it satisfied.
carry a personal co detector and if it goes off call in the fire department. they'll happily deem it unsafe and shut it all down, well them and the gas department both.
Ted, there might have been something in the fan blade that made it out of balance. A chunk of insulation, a piece of paper that allowed dirt to build up, etc.
I had one just like it, even same year. I pulled the burner assembly every year to clean my flame sensor until I got tired of if about 5 years ago and replaced my furnace LOL - ratta tat tat what you're seeing with the gas regulator and gas lines is out of code here in TX. Can't do it. Black Pipe only i believe.
Yes there will most likely be a follow up video for this one. I like to take apart the furnaces and look at the heat exchangers if they are not obvious.
@@jrt2924 He goes back on some of them to do QC, and does film the new install and goes over what was done etc. Probably doesn't have time to do them all, or homeowner goes out of town or something right after the install was completed.
Could probably save a lot of lives if they simply made CO detectors mandatory, in any building with fuel burning appliances. They are some places, like here in Ontario, Canada.
Sometimes do what I do I just take some mustache wax stick it in there and that'll hold the screw long enough sometimes that by a homeowner you live and learn i guess
Ted to the rescue. Love your videos. Can’t help but wonder what those arm chair bandits will say about cycling power like that but who cares what they think. Keep up the great content Ted.
yeah, it's saying "my heat exchangers sections are loose and flapping in the breeze". AKA, she's gone and an H.E. or whole furnace/system. it's either rusted, cracked, screws fell out, etc.
Anyone who uses a so-called leak stop is absolutely a pure hack. You are never going to do any good by adding glue to a refrigeration system. I’m sorry that you feel the way you do however, leaks need to be found and components replaced or repaired. Just because Something Happens in one video does not mean that is the entire history of the relationship or the repair. Careful what you assume. Thank you very much for watching!
@@TedCookHVAC If you were hired to replace the system and the leak was in the piping through the walls would you replace all of that piping, above sheet rock, or put sealant in the line? I'm curious because most of the games as you would call them would add the sealant.
Sealant ??? Really ??? What a JOKE... No I would never use a so called "sealant" .... sorry man but you are seriously a hack if you use any of that stuff.

It’s a pleasure to watch you work, and get just a glimpse of depth of knowledge you’ve acquired over years of servicing these beasts…
Ted I've noticed that the $100.00 dollar bills clean flame sensors better than other $1.00 bills.
with the way inflation is going, will need a trillion dollar bill to be able to clean a sensor soon enough.
Over the years, I've noticed that some people love to flash large bills. I don't flash cash where I live. It invites pick pockets and other criminal types.
When it fired then went out, I knew that $100.00 bill was coming out! I really enjoy your videos and commentary!
Just casually pulls out that 💯😂
you got me trying to look around the corner and help you put that screw back in LOL.

Ted I worked on 2 of those goodmans this week. One was working fine (28 years) and the other had a cracked heat exchanger (29 years)
Good job Ted, I've adjusted many of those regulators, and none of them smelled like gas with the adjustment cap off. They're not supposed to leak. That cap is more of just a dust cap, and keep fingers out of it... diaphragm is leaking on that one.
...which was probably getting incorrect pressure into the burners.
Ted, is it ok to use one dollar bills to clean flame sensors? I haven't seen one of those one hundred dollar bills in my area since Biden went in.

I'd be interested in knowing what that knocking noise was too ... Please keep us posted and thx for posting ...

Just a suggestion, I would recommend taking micro amps before pulling the flame sensor to save you the hassle.

I’m surprised copper is allowed for gas. Not in my neck of the woods.
Copper is the interior gas line of choice in most of the country.
Same here in Australia, most gas line is copper, or more commonly these days, yellow PEX
Not in mine either. Black Iron pipe ONLY.
@@christopherhaak9824 not in Northern Illinois . L.p. is usually ran in copper though.
What’s the problem with copper?
Why does always take a 100 dollar bill. To clean the flame rod
