Enjoy the ride with Brandon Sanderson! Since you asked, here's a guide on how to read his books:
- Usually best 1st options:
Mistborn Era 1 (Final Empire, Well of Ascension, Hero of Ages)
Elantris
Tress of the Emerald Sea or Yumi and the Nightmare painter (I advise to start with one of the other 2 options tbh)
- 2nd
If you started with Mistborn, finish the full trilogy and then move to Warbreaker and Elantris, order in those two doesnt matter
If you started with Tress, Yumi or Elantris, move to Mistborn
- 3rd
At this point you shoul've read Warbreaker, Elantris and Mistborn era 1 - It's a great time to start Stormlight Archive (personally, i'd say read only the first 2 for now: Way of Kings, Words of Radiance)
-4th
Big suggestion to read Arcanum Unbounded, it has some stories and lore from the worlds that later link to other books. Optionally, you can skip the story called "Mistborn: Secret History" and read that on step 6 since the book in step 6 and this short story spoil eachother. and the book first is the way the author intended it (publication order)
Mistborn era 2, except the 4th book (so, read Alloy of Law, Shadows of Self, Bands of Mourning)
-5th
Finish Stormlight Archive (Oathbringer, Rythm of War) with a novella in the middle (Dawnshard)
-6th
Finish Mistborn era 2 (The Lost Metal) and read Mistborn: Secret History if you haven't yet
Finish the other stand alones (Yumi or Tress if you haven't yet, then last The Sunlit Man)
You can also re-read Tress and Yumi if you had earlier, to catch some of the references that you missed going in blind!
I am almost done with all of the books (i'm on step 5) but just like you, I started with Tress - In my opinion you won't regret it. But i highly recommend a re-read after all the other books.
My favorites are Warbreaker, Tress, Hero of Ages and Words of Radiance!
As a massive Sanderson reader, I completely agree with this.
I understand when people recommend to start with mistborn, but it makes me nervous because it's the only Sanderson I haven't enjoyed so far 😬 think I need a reread, perhaps the audiobook?
I can't get over the pug laying there asleep! sooooo adorable🥺
It’s so cute 🥰
He’s a lil mamas boy, that’s for sure! ❤
OUTLANDER- please do a series on them - I love these, anxiously waiting for #10!!
I love the detective series! I think I am on book 7 or 8 of the Alex Cross series.
Nooo! I also LOVE detective thrillers!! Im just a you tube watcher though...lol Thats one of the main reasons I watch you ...I was like finally I found someone else who likes detective type stories!
You are not the only one who loves Detective Thrillers. I love them 😊
Me me me I enjoy detective thrillers! I also really like domestic thrillers which also seems to be rare lol. That daddy book guy David Baldacci has a few crime thrillers too that you may enjoy.
I love detective thrillers. I love detective DD Warren in Lisa Gardner books
Detective fiction is my favvvv.
Tana French's books are phenomenal. Kinda like literary thrillers. Most are set in Ireland.
I wouldn’t worry about reading order for Sanderson’s Cosmere. And actually, Sanderson himself recommended Tress of the Emerald Sea as a good starting point.
I agree wholeheartedly, BUT if you want the word from Mr. Sanderson himself, he has a video on how RUclips channel he uploaded about 3 months ago with a general guide ❤
I agree with this. Tress is a great starting point
Tess you can read anytime but not a true representation of his work because it's a cosy fantasy and he isn't really known for that.
Tress of the Emerald Sea is a stand alone that takes place in the Cosimir (extended universe). It is the only Sanderson book I've read and understood the worldbuilding just fine. From what I understand there are different worlds with slightly different magic systems so you don't necessarily need to read other Cosimir books to understand this one. It WILL have a character or 2 from this book in future books allegedly but that isn't necessary for the enjoyment of this book.
Hope that helps :)
Omg! The Outlander show series is sooooooo good!
I love detective thrillers! you are not alone lol
The Outlander audiobooks are very well done. 😊
Omg Beth we are always on the same brain wavelength - I set a goal to get into the Brandy Sandy world this year and I started with Tress based on a friends rec, but now I’m into the Mistborn series and loving it. Brandon Sanderson has a video on his RUclips that is his personal updated recommendation for reading order that I’m now following and loving.
I also am rediscovering Stephen King, just finishing Doctor Sleep, wish I had the room to collect like you 😮
I HATE to do this to you a second haul in a row, but fragile threads of power is the first book in a spin off trilogy. I think it’s the Shades of Magic series
😂😂😂 I do have the first in that series, but I haven’t started it yet. So now I know!! 😜
Curious to know if you have read the Maya Gray series by Molly Black (FBI Suspense Thriller)...Not that you need another series in your life if you haven't, LOL, but I enjoyed it and thought it might be up your alley.
Beth I am one of your crowd. I love detective thrillers/mysteries.
Detective thriller fan here! Just finished book 2 of Kate Burkholder series, love Pendergrast books from Preston and Child, Three Pines from Louise Penny, and Tami Hoag!
I really wanted Tress to win the buddy read vote for on the hour! Dying to read it. I’m still excited to read the butterfly garden though lol
David Baldacci is amazing!! Will Robie and Memory Man series are some of my fave books of all time!
I also just picked up the 1st (only) Veronica Speedwell book. Fingers crossed, I like it! Dreamcatcher is really good! I also enjoyed the movie. I, as well, need to read Duma Key. There is much debate on how you start the Cosmere. I started with Mistborn, and I have all the white UK editions. I love them!
Maybe I’ll finally pick up the city we became when you do 😂 and I love detective books!
Beth I love the detective thriller books. And yes alot of the are series.
Perfect timing to read the outlander series!! The Book Refuge is currently doing a readalong of the series! And we are currently on Voyager! You have a month and a half to read each book, followed by a liveshow book chat. You should join the fun 😃 I'm on my first read thru the series too and am loving it. Voyager is really good, can't wait to see what else the series has waiting!!
Oml I love your content so much🕺 I started watching when you uploaded the first of your bookshelf ultimatum and you’re absolutely hilarious, I wish more book content creators were as realistic and FUNNY as you, I especially love when you talk about certain funny excerpts from books cause I do the same thing especially to people who will never understand what Im talking about lol. Before I get off topic just really wanted to put it out there since I always watch your videos on my tv and never get the chance to write a comment so I just wanted to tell you how much I love your content and admire your reading style, it’s really relatable and quite nice to see someone who has such a busy life still make time for themselves to read, it’s a good habit I wish more people had especially ( me.. ) parents! lol I only recently started reading heavily again around last year and since then I have fell into a slump on book 8 or 9 of pretty little liars, however your content pushes me to not drop the series all together, so thank you for that and I look forward to more videos from you 🫶🏻💕
Ps, I’m 17 and haven’t found a book RUclipsr as funny as you ever. if we are not including the gays 🫰🏼🥰
I read Duma Key and really enjoyed it. Character driven novel so maybe the description and dynamic of those characters made me like the story. Looking forward to know your reaction. I can’t say more without spoiling the story. Dreamcatcher🤔😳😐Well, I will watch your video about your opinion.
I haven’t watched much videos lately but it was nice to watch this one. I enjoy your book hauls and reviews🤗
I just currently started Dragonfly in Amber- i heard there was a read-a-long !! I read books 1-3 when they first came out but didnt continue and i dont know why but i remember loving them!
❤📚 I love the Outlander series. I've read, and own, books one through five. I NEED to get on the rest of them! Yes, Tress of the Emerald Sea!!! Standalone. I loved it.
If you've never read classics I highly highly recommend Frankenstein by Mary Shelley. It's really accessible, super interesting, and there's a lot of content that you can analyze, annotate, and just think about.
I also highly recommend the short story The Yellow Wallpaper by Charlotte Perkins Gilman. It was published in the 1890s and the author sent it to her doctor as a testament to how bad women's health care was.
I need to get through the Outlander series as well!! Would totally join some sort of readathon to be caught up before her 10th book comes out.
I also always say I’ll go on some sort of book buying ban.. but then Target and Amazon always tends to do their buy 2 get 1 free deal right after I speak that aloud. 🥲
10/10 would do a Brandon Sanderson readathon of some sort too. Tress sounds so fun!
I just thrifted seven of the Outlander books! I am so excited to read them. Someday, lol.
Oh, score!! I’ve never seen the hardcovers at the second hand store I go to. And the paperback ones are always so rough! I’m hoping these books last for many years! Can’t wait to dive back in them myself 😜
@@BethMorvant Yeah. the only problem with my books was that some of them were paperback and some of them were hardback. I'm a hardback girlie at heart, so I'm hoping that if I like them, to get them all in hardback.
It is fine to start the Cosmere with Tress of the Emerald Sea, however you have to read The Darker Shade of magic trilogy before reading A Fragile Thread of Power 😅
Just for the Summer was 6 stars for me!!!!!!! ❤️
Yesss!
I am the same way with reading new books well after the hype has died down. 😂 Why do we do this??? I am trying to get better with it too. I felt it when you said, “it’s not as fun” when we read it after the hype. 😅
I know that you love Fairydale as do I so i purchased Veronica Lancet's new book… Mayhem & Minnie! It sounds great! ❤
Sooooo, I have some recs.... Also, I love you. 😂 OK, here we go. Abby Jimenez needs to be on your auto buy list. Also, Ali Hazelwood (at least for adult romances). Altho I did love Bride. #justsayin sooooo, I found a detective series that is on KU that I loooooove. The first one is Shadow Falls and I'm on book 4. Highly recommend. 😁
I’ve read two Ali Hazelwood. One I loved, the other felt too copy paste. I do have a couple more of hers on my shelf to read tho! I’ll have to check out that series, I’ve never heard of it before! Thank you so much for the recs 🩷 and for watching, of course 😜💕
@@BethMorvant oh ok. Yeah I don't think they are the same. Or maybe I just love the humor so much, I don't notice. But I do usually read her books with at least months in between. And yes, check out that series. It's great!
My favorite Stephen King book is Later.. granted it’s the only one I’ve read lol but I really enjoyed it! I’m like you too with Brandon Sanderson. It can be overwhelming!
I have seen so many positive things about Brandon Sandersen books but have yet to read any. Curious to know your opinion on some of his books in the future!😊
It's really interesting to me that you want to read more books while there hyped whereas whereas other book influencers want to stop reading books while they're hyped and start reading things they've never heard of or only years later after hype
lol well I mostly read non-hyped stuff. And I sometimes get fomo of all the gushing and memes and fan art that I can’t relate to because I haven’t read those things yet. 🤷🏻♀️ so I want to be able to join in on some of the conversations while they’re still happening, if that makes sense.
Dreamcatcher is what The Troop wishes it could be! I really enjoyed it. So much it put me into a slump. 😂
Edit: or book hangover if you will.
Edit 2: Brandon Sanderson post a video on his YT that’s called where to start from 3 months ago. Then where to start Cosmere 2 months ago. He does suggest Tress first but idk if that’s because he just came out with it.
Oh thank you for this!! I guess I need to go subscribe to his channel 🩷
I enjoyed the Troop so that makes me excited to know that the Dreamcatcher is better 😜
Juniper Books has really pretty dust jackets for the Outlander series if you like them to be cohesive.
Oh I’ll have to go check them out! I like how the covers are just solid colors, but the colors don’t even go well together 😵💫
Brandon Sanderson has an updated 2024 reading order video on his own RUclips channel!
Happy reading.

The fact that I have so many unread books 😂
I'm sorry?? 😭😭 How does Gaius Aurelius Constantine Heliogabalus Thrax translate to freaking Robert?? 😭😭
Hahahahaha idk but idk what I’d do if it wasn’t because I cannot even try to pronounce his real name
@@BethMorvant I would fully just skip over his name every time I had to read it 😂😂
I think you will ban that ban on buying books
