  • Both of these care are amazing in their own way! I absolutely love the STI and wouldn't currently trade it for anything. What do you think?

    I have an 03 blobeye wrx with the 2L EJ and 5 speed transmission. It's on STI springs and tuned to just under 300 hp with bolt-ons, so maybe you could say it's got positive elements of both. In Australia we got the wrx and sti much earlier than the states, so there are a lot of gc8 models and 207 STIs around. Only switched to the EJ205 when it became standard in the hawkeye. Lol the Japanese knew Americans are obsessed with bigger engines, even if it's not always better.

    Great video as usual.
    I started with an 06 WRX and it was my dream car for the finances I had at 18. Looked fast and was easy to drive.
    Two years ago I had the opportunity to buy an 06 STI, a blue one with forged engine, coilovers and safe tuned to 400hp. It is much harder to drive, attracts more cops and the clutch gives me a headache. BUT, it's my dream car. When I was a kid I always played with a blue Impreza, so now owning an STI turns all the cons into pros.
    There aren't many of these left in Sweden, so I'm glad I was able to buy one. Have some videos on my channel regarding this car.

      That’s awesome! I’ll be sure to check out some of your videos. These generation sti’s are definitely a bit more challenging to own than most people think. But it’s still absolutely worth it

    WRX is more comfortable but I feel that's where it stops. If you had both and drove them in a similar way, the STI would easily be the more reliable option. A thing to note is AU delivered WRX (GD) would run on 95 RON, STI is 98 RON only, so more expensive along with higher fuel consumption. WRX is great, STI is collectable.

    not quite right, though mostly right for the USA i guess
    GD was 01-07 in Japan and Australia, and the model years were different
    bug eye 01-02
    blob eye was 03-05
    Hawk eye 06-07
    Japan and Australia also had the 2.0L ej205 in wrx's.
    But they were much better than the USA ej205.
    Mine was build late 02 to be a my03 and it has AVCS, stronger internals, etc. and came fitted with a torsen LSD, none of which you got in the states, in fact you still had the bug eye in 03.
    The ej207 was only ever fitted to STi
    STis and WRXs in aus and japan got 2.0L motors until 05, in 06 australia went to the worse 2.5L motors that the US got too, whereas Japan stayed on the superior 2.0L motors.
    eventually the type RA was the first 2.5L that can compare with the 2003+ ej207 in terms of reliable horsepower
    really you guys in the USA got fucked but also Australia was Subaru's testing grounds and our car import laws just require it to be passed in Japan, Europe or USA so we got the cool shit.
    270000 KMs on my original 2.0L ej205 here and its still going strong, but the transmission did finally grenade itself. Dropping a 6speed in this weekend.

      also the blob eye (03+ here, 04+ there) was much more tunable then the bug eye but it was less idiot proof. It had the capability to make boost way faster and would immediately do that, overboosting to dangerous levels without a tune. but if you were fucking around with boost without knowing what you were doing you pretty much deserve what followed.
      the STis ej207 was far, far more tunable then any wrx motor. the 257 was a mixed bag but generally far worse than the 207, mostly because it was essentially a bored out ej207 block.
      Shocking to find out that taking material out of the engine block made it weaker...

    • @Puma6922
      @Puma6922 26 дней назад

      lots of other differences too actually
      our 5 speed a 4.44 ratio so our 5 speeds were very close ratio boxes, which made them very fast but >3k rpm on the highway
      my 6 speed im getting has much longer ratios

    • @Puma6922
      @Puma6922 26 дней назад

      also the sti was a lot more reliable than the wrx.
      the wrx had much worse headgaskets, particularly on the 2.5L models.
      headgasket issues werent much of a thing at all on the 2.0L models, nor were the ringland issues, piston melting issues, etc. prevalent on 2,5s

    As long as you keep up with maintenance both are pretty reliable stock. Its people that start adding mods and throw a off the shelf tune from their accessport and expect everything to be okay. EJ's are very special and unique engines. Do it a favor and get a real tune once you start modding.

      I have owned a 07 wrx for 6 years it’s on stock block modded heavily and it’s been on a etune from torqued performance.. it’s got 177k. Not sure how people blow these cars up. I guess it’s from not knowing how to take care of your car.

      @@boostfeed_ I have ID1050x injectors, 340LPH fuel pump, Cobb 3 port boost controller, Perrin short ram intake, upgraded top mount intercooler, GFB blow off valve, full 3inch exhaust from turbo was catless recently got a catted downpipe. Stock turbo stock block and it’s tuned for 18psi of boost. I do have a blouch 16g I want to put in it but I don’t have the money for a retune yet. I’ve been running that setup for 3 years now. I have beat the shit out of it but in the same token I make sure my oil is always good.

      My stock ej255 is pushing 320hp with just a Sti turbo and supporting mods. My other built Wrx swapped Sti is pushing 500hp on e85 with no problems
