    I have a VA WRX and can check off most of the boxes. First manual (learned daily driving it and still using that same clutch), head unit and speakers have both been upgraded, and I do rip on the car a decent amount (within reason and when it is safe to do so). Maintinance is always done and the car has been tuned for the parts on it so I do look after it especially since it does get driven spiritedly a decent amount.

    • @boostfeed_

      I bet it rips! I think the tune is the. Biggest part to putting everything on. Without it, that’s when parts start to go. I’ve had a catless downpipe that’s been waiting to be put on for months now but I’m trying to get the money for a tune still

    I had gotten a VA when I was 16 I’ve ticked off a few boxes: first manual, got a no name axle back, and would rip the hell out of it any chance I could get. I’m more tame with my VB, I do a couple of small rips every so often, gonna hopefully get a cat back in a few weeks.

That’s what I did for a few years and then I started buying Subarus with either a blown motor or something wrong with it I’d fix it and resell it for 3-4 times the money I bought it for.

    29 here, since they stopped blaming our generation for everything, I don’t know if I could be considered young anymore - but I still tick a lot of the boxes. Jumped in headfirst and got my 2019 STI a few months ago. First MT car too. Already came with a lift kit, Morel subwoofer + Alpine amp, and Invidia exhaust from the dealership. Swapped out the front speakers with some Arc Audio speakers from a local shop and plan on doing the back speakers next. Cars a blast to own and drive. I’m glad I only owned beaters in my early 20s because I know for a fact I wouldn’t have been able to care for this car properly back then. Only things I’m lacking off your list is the intake and tune. Those will come further down the line once I’m more comfortable with the platform and understand what it does.

    For the bugeye and blobeye, the STI engine is actually more reliable. It is made of higher quality parts, and they are still 2.0L blocks. The hawkeye was the first 2.5L engine Impreza. And it is notoriously worse than the previous 2.0L engines. At least in Europe, all of our pre-hawkeye WRXs and STIs are all 2.0L. But the STI has forged internals and is all around just higher quality.

    • @boostfeed_
      @boostfeed_ 29 дней назад

      So here In the states, the first sti we got was the 2004 and it came with the 2.5l. The wrx’s had the 2.0l until the 2006 model year. I’ve heard that the early 2.5l are more reliable than the new 2.5l blocks but I don’t know if that’s true

  • @samisuhonen9815
    @samisuhonen9815 Месяц назад

    The number 1 thing that young Subie owners do wrong, is bolting on modifications without getting a professional tune. Subarus got this undeserved rep of being an easy tuner car. Probably because it was really easy to get more power out of them. For sure, that is correct. But the hard part is making it reliable. You really have to get a professional tune for ANY part you install anywhere between the intake and the tip of the exhaust. These engines are the princesses of engines. They have really low tolerances for having the wrong kind of tune. And especially WRX engines and transmissions, are not fit to run higher boost than factory tune. So young owners either get the intake, BOV, and exhaust. But neglect a proper tune to account for those changes. And they end up getting an engine knock and 5 leaks. Or they get a tune to increase the boost and power of their WRX, but they blow up the non STI engine... or more commonly, they explode the 5 speed transmission of the WRX that is already questionable at best for the power the car makes stock. Seriously that 5 speed WRX transmission should not be in that car. And even if you own one stock, do not launch it with a clutch drop at high RPM. Do not try to drift with clutch kicks even on gravel. The stock WRX trans, is not strong enough to sustain the stresses of high RPM boosted power spikes. Like seriously even just a BOV. You think it's harmless. The air exiting the intake system just makes a louder noise, right? Wrong. WRX and STI cars have a recycling bypass valve as stock. They also have MAF sensor that measures the air taken into the exhaust. The car has a stock tune that calculates fuel amounts to be injected, based on how much air was taken in. And as you let off throttle, the stock BPV recycles that air back into the intake where it keeps looping through the still spinning turbocharger for a few seconds. But when you install a BOV, that air exits the intake system with a loud woosh noise. The stock tune of the car still thinks you have that air in the system for a while, since the stock BPV would have recycled this pressurized air back into the intake system. So it calculates way more fuel into the cylinders than you actually have oxygen to burn. And the engine runs rich for a few strokes every time after you make the BOV go PSSSSH. Now in some engines, this does not cause major issues. You get worse gas mileage and your car has more turbo lag any time you get off the throttle. But it's going to be okay. But the Subaru flat 4 is not the most forgiving of engines. It does not like running rich or lean. It should always be tuned to run as clean as possible, to avoid developing leaks or knocks. So in reality, that cool BOV you installed, might have just cut your boxer engine's lifespan into half. And you don't even realize it.

    • @boostfeed_
      @boostfeed_ 29 дней назад

      I totally agree with you. I have always had pretty good luck with Subarus and I’ve always thought it was due to being on stock tune with no heavy mods, or a pro tune where everything was accounted for. For some reason, the BOV sound has never really appealed to me. I appreciate one when I hear it but I’ve never thought about putting one of my car. I have a downpipe and up pipe waiting to be put on my sti but am waiting until I can afford to get a proper tune for it!

    Looks are subjective and i happen to like the two tone blue interior. While many sporty cars like the STi get abused, incorrectly maintained or modified without tuning for new parts and end up blowing a headgasket it’s not something they suffer from. In fact, unlike the infamous N/A 2.5 sohc engine (which is the one that really used to blow headgaskets and created that stigma for Subaru) they come with multilayer steel headgaskets from factory. Rev hang? I think that’s more like something specific to your car. They do leak oil…specially from the valve covers but again…maintenance. Don’t worry, my other car is a Toyota with less miles on the odometer and it’s got a few leaks too, and trust me, Ive seen lots of blown k20 and k24’s, if you treat your car like a race car you’ll have race car problems. I agree with you about the drivetrain being noisy at very low speeds when taking a curve. All I’m saying is you should first fix the christmas lights show you got going on in your cluster, check what is causing your rev hang, get well versed about these cars and then do a "What i hate” list. 😂

      @boostfeed_ Месяц назад

      I appreciate your intel! A “what I hate list” can certainly be coming haha. I have since gotten the cel and and others gone off the dash which is good. These cars can be but I totally agree with you that if you treat it like a race car, you’re gonna have car problems. Mines just a daily driver for me so I hardly ever really get into it and beat the crap out of it

    Do you dry the car? Cause if you don’t that would cause water spots. You also want to rub the clay bar more than once. Not just a drag across.

    • @boostfeed_
      @boostfeed_ Месяц назад

      I honestly didn’t dry it at first but then I started doing thing and it didn’t help a whole lot. I also did you go the spot 2-3 times but I just didn’t put it in the video. It helped a little bit but it honestly got to the point where I didn’t have time to keep dealing with it so I haven’t tried in a while

Completely revamped and redid a lot of work and put in a lot of hours (loved every second learning this car), and now at 96k miles, I'm running pristine. Just take care of them. I have a 99 2.5rs, 02 wrx wagon, had a 04 wrx and never had a problem with rev hang until i got my 04 sti, its something to do with the drive by wire system doing it for emissions, ive read somewhere in a forum about someone being able to tune it out but i havent been able to figure it out, the rev hang is a real mood killer when driving

      3 years into owning my 2020 limited, and all I’ve done are oem+ things; polyurethane rear shifter bushing, shifter springs, clutch spring, braided clutch line, better fluids, forged clutch fork/pivot, upgraded throw out bearing, paint matched trd fender fins, front lip, drambeenie spoiler risers, and a 4th brake light. Honestly, the car drives perfect and looks super nice with those handful of cosmetics that I almost want to leave it alone now. But now I’ve got wheels and a lot of suspension mods I’ve been holding onto so I can start being more competitive at autocross, so I’m excited to see how much potential those upgrades are going to unlock, while I save up for a baller Fujitsubo header back exhaust system.

      @@ruinedmedia3053 hell yea I bet the gear box feels great! The cool thing with the sti is it had enough power to still hsve some decent fun with. It’s gonna sound great once you add the header back exhaust

      @boostfeed_ The shifter is so notchy and mechanical feeling, it amazing! A little bit of transmission whine and the shifter sounds nice and chunky with a little bit of a metallic clunk. Only downside is it wants me to be extra precise now, so no getting lazy with my shifting anymore lmao. And fingers crossed the Fujitsubo system lives up to my expectations! I have sensitive hearing so I spent a long time trying to find the best system for my needs, that won't give me a headache on the daily. The nice thing about 2017+ BRZ & 86's is they have a different diff gear ratio that gives the car a little more torque, so for me, that plus the slight bump in power from it's revised tuning is plenty to have fun with in it's stock form, so im willing to make that little hp sacrifice by getting a system that has a catted header to help tone down some additional unwanted frequencies.
