Another issue of being a collector. The duplications / re-releases and the double dipping problem.
Should we keep previous versions or get rid ?
Do you keep numerous versions / older formats for your favourite movies ?

Your solution was presented in one of your earlier videos - put them into folders and dispose of the plastic cases (or sell them on ebay). You will have more space, a more organised collection and no need to let go of them. No need to buy anymore. Your mind may still crave the hit of buying more stuff, but maybe go for smaller items. / In terms of my own movie/tv collection, I downloaded most of what was missing from my dvd collection onto an external hard drive. I then copied it, so I had a backup. This saved an enormous amount of space. Rather than shelves of DVDs, I now had two external 4tb hard drives and a few Caselogic wallets with DVDs.

      @PhillwithadoubleL  5 месяцев назад

I’ve thought about plonking some things onto an external hard drive but the worry is that it turns into another ‘thing’ where I feel I need as much as possible over actually just having the content that I want.
The re organising is a journey for me at the moment. looking at lots of different options as I work through the things I already have. It’s more about fighting that addictive collection and accumulating habit that I’m trying to work against.

Great channel Phill! It’s good to see someone talking about the ‘perils’ of collecting for a change!
I only keep doubles of my top ten films really, mostly because of 4k as I want the best possible version. It’s good to have a clear out, maybe sell all of your un-needed dvds?! I might help help break that cycle! 👌

Thanks Robin, glad you enjoyed a slightly different look at collecting.
I’ve started to move and clear out some things. Breaking the cycle is in process and I’m finding a little more clarity step by step.
I think once I’ve cleared out most doubles will be gone. Like you, maybe only my top ten movies that I ‘may’ keep doubles of. Well, unless it’s some kind of extra or feature I ‘need’ to keep something for.

Hey again Phill. I share your pain. Weve spoke before, and I am also an avid movie lover. Recently I have had a shift of priorities in life.. here is my own personal take on collecting (anything) .. its great to start out with, and enjoy amongst like minded friends / community, one upmanship etc, .. however there is a point where it turns inward to a solitary pursuit, and less about the enjoyment of the thing more about the must have item. At this point I would class it as a sickness. Ive been there and done it, I used to run a succesful retro game store, believe me ive owned almost everything you can imagine (gaming wise), but it all just got silly - completing collections, then extending to import, then new/sealed,.. about 15 years ago I sold the entire lot and the £ was enough for a few holidays and a car. I now have just a tiny selection of stuff (games and movies) that I know I definately like, I dont "collect" anymore, I just find for myself its a rabbit hole I dont wanna enter again. All my dvds are in sleeves in a folder now, and games.. mostly on a retro emulator with a handful of titles on a shelf tastefully next to other stuff. Having worked in retail gaming shops and dvd shops in the past we always had regulars that came in and had to have the new release of anything horror, 80's, korean, steelbook, region 1's, .... always with the "better not tell the mrs" comments lol. I guess what my point is, own it and love it, but dont let it own you - good luck ☮️☮️☮️

I agree, it is like a sickness when you look at the traits and behaviours.
Thankfully, making the videos is helping me consider what I’ve been doing and take a good look at things. For the first time in many years, I’ve got things on the move and clearing some out.
Funny you mention retro gaming. I still have my old N64. Struggling letting it go and always in the back of my mind that it might be nice to use and collect for again. But… when consider life / free time. My gaming would more likely fall to the newer games on PlayStation over the retro gaming. The nostalgia is good for minutes. Then I wanna be Kratos again. I know this and yet, at the moment the thought of letting it go just worries me. I can’t put my finger on why. Need to give myself a deadline to clear it out.
Plus, I don’t want to be suckered into starting to collect for it again when really…. I don’t play it any more. I can get most of those retro games on the switch if I wanted.
I need to focus on what I enjoy now rather than what I ‘might’ve enjoy in the future or trying to relive 20+ years ago memories.
I even know where I’d spend the money if i traded in. Which is where my focus seems to be at the moment. Getting better with equipment and software for these RUclips videos !
CEX trade in video coming soon I think!

I say keep em all since say a disc gets scratched, cracked or just does'nt play anymore due to disc rot. At least you have a backup. This is even more so if the title is OOP or not streamed anywhere. I'm glad Blu-ray discs don't scratch as easily as DVD do. If you're tech savvy you can even backup your movies.

I then set aside the movies I did have a personal connection with and the rest I put in a pile and looked over them once again said the same thing and let them go. It felt rather good to do that. I’m purposely “double dipping” for my favorite movies or those I know are popular ones. I just got into 4K collecting less than 2 weeks ago. My passion now is to replace my favorite movies with the new format and upgrade DVDs, and DVD-Rs of other popular movies to BluRays. I won’t sell any of the older DVDs or BluRays I have. They will be an “insurance policy” for those if the new 4K of a favorite or popular movie goes bad and can’t be replaced. My new 4k player upscales my older formats to look like the next format above it.
I can remember the same thing happening when everyone was replacing their VHS tapes with DVDs thinking it was the best thing that would ever happen for home video. Then came BluRays and now 4Ks. I’m never getting rid of any of my physical copies of anything, music or video.

Completely see your reasoning. How do you store your titles ? I’m struggling for space as it is. Can’t imagine being able to keep everything 😔

@@PhillwithadoubleLI sometimes regret selling and giving away my VHS tapes in garage sales. I didn’t have storage space for everything after they’d been replaced with DVDs or DVD-Rs. If you mean the discs when you say “titles”, it’s because I now live in my late parents’ house and plan to make my tiny house on this property a library building for my physical media collection. There’s space in my new house that my parents didn’t use for storage. My collection is not as large as some I’ve seen on RUclips, but I don’t buy everything available either.

Hey Phill, it is me commenting again. You are not alone, and it is not just you. As I have said, I am a notorious double, and sometimes triple dipper, or even more than that in rarer instances if it is an all time favorite.
I had to laugh when I heard you say that the Thing is one of the films you keep dipping into. The movie that I have dipped the most on is the Thing, I have dipped six times for it over the years. I got the DVD long ago, then the studio bare bones blu ray, then I got the Scream Factory blu ray with the slipcover. The fourth one was me getting the Scream Factory limited edition steelbook, which had the same exact contents as the slipcover version. I didn't need two version of the movie by the same label, but because it is my favorite movie I let it slide.
Then last year, when I got into 4K, I got the deluxe 4K box set by Universal with the poster, soundtrack, and everything else from the UK oop at a good price from one of my favorite indie stores. That is intended to be my final version. When I got that in the mail I was elated and excited to have such a great limited 4K set of the Thing.
But wait, there is a sixth one, and this one makes the least sense. OrbitDvd sometimes lists rare items, one night I saw a brand new copy of the Arrow limited edition blu ray set, the same one that you show in the video, pop up for more than I paid for the oop 4K Universal set which comes with more stuff. I knew it made no sense, since even the region B blu rays came with the Universal 4K deluxe set. But being a huge the Thing fan and because I love Arrow box sets, I impulsively bought it. I got it for the different artwork and the poster inside, when it came in the mail, instead of feeling excited like I did with the 4K Universal set. I held it in my hand and was asking myself why I bought it just for the different art box and the poster inside.
I have also dipped many times on the first Phantasm, Black Christmas, and some other movies.
Well, recently as of last year I started to get frames to decorate the home with my posters from my limited sets. I hung a few up, Phantasm, Phenomena, and a print of a photograph of Vincent Price my girlfriend got me years ago. I also got a large the Thing poster, an out of print Black Christmas Scream Factory poster, and a reprint of the classic the Good, the Bad, and the Ugly poster. I ordered some other frames for those posters, and have yet to hang those framed posters up. But I intent to hang them up over my collection in the living room. I also have a small odd sized Fulci's Zombie poster from an old DVD, and a daybill poster of Tourist Trap. I have wanted to frame them for almost fifteen years, but they never fit in proper frames. I bought custom frames for them, and I am going to put them up soon in the bedroom.
Back in early March, when it was announced by Scream Factory that they were putting out Killer Klowns from Outer Space on 4K, my favorite B movie horror film when it comes to horror comedy and absurdity right along with Brain Damage. I usually get Scream releases slowly over time. I had never ordered direct from their store. If you order direct, you get an extra slipcover, and a poster or posters in certain bundles for a few dollars more than the release price on Amazon. I never cared enough to order from them to get their posters.
But then I saw them put up their two versions of Killer Klowns from Outer Space, the slipcover and the steelbook each with different posters. The slipcover version came in a "smaller" bundle with an extra slipcover featuring art of the pizza delivery scene, with two posters and a sticker. And the limited steelbook with Slim on the front with cotton candy cocoons came with the poster of the cover of the steelbook.
I knew it was insane, and it did not make much sense, and I would not have done it for any other Scream Factory horror release. But I placed my first order with them, and I bought both the double slipcover version with the two posters, and the steelbook with its own poster. Two versions of the same release in different packaging by the same label!
I absolutely did it for the posters, because they are all the same size, 18 x 24, and I want to hang the pizza delivery one with all of the klowns on it in the living room above my wall of shelves of my collection alongside the Thing, Black Christmas, and the Good, the Bad, and the Ugly. And I figure, if I get tired of looking at it, I can then hang Slim with the cotton candy cocoons up in the same frame, or put that one in the bedroom. The third poster is the standard theater artwork.
I am obviously a big Killer Klowns fan, what really triggered me to make the purchase for the pizza scene poster, there was a shirt last year from my favorite horror shirts company called Fright Rags, they came out with a limited pizza pie shirt that came in a pizza pie box designed after the movie. I wanted the shirt but I was too slow to jump on it. The artwork on the shirt is much different than the movie scene, but it references the scene on the shirt, and it reminded me how I wanted the shirt, and I decided the scene would look great on the wall. I have been ordering from Fright Rags since around 2010, and I have around 14 of their shirts. They make the best horror shirts out there and I just pick up a design or two every year, and it has become a mini collection thing I do.
After placing that impulse order for the two versions of Killer Klowns 4K, I realized it was overboard for one movie, even for the posters. But I told myself I can always sell one version of the movie down the road. I just really wanted those posters.
It was about after that I started to slow down, I had placed a few Arrow pre-orders, Carrie, Invasion of the Body Snatchers, and City of the Living Dead. But after they came, I decided I am going to take a break from buying unless it is another critical release because so far there is nothing else that is urgent coming out.
But yeah, I am guilty as charged with double dipping and more depending on the title. If it is not in my top favorites, but I still like it, I have in many cases bought the DVD and upgraded to the blu ray. But I haven't gone crazy on many of the other ones like I have the Thing, Phantasm, Black Christmas, and Killer Klowns from Outer Space.
And speaking of the subject of collecting, my late grandma who passed away years ago was a big collector of designer teddy bears, art glass, and dolls. She got so crazy in her collecting that even though she had a very good paying career with the state, she filed for bankruptcy twice over her collecting. I would guess she spent at least over 100k on her collection in her lifetime if not more. At one point she had a whole garage and a closet full of her collection, most of which she never opened and kept boxed away because she bought so much she couldn't even put it out to look at it.
She ended up leaving her huge collection to me after she passed away. I am needless to say not into dolls, bears or art glass. I am keeping a few for sentiments sake, but I have been slowly selling her collection over the years on Ebay to people that actually want it. Not only am I not into it, I just don't have the space for it. It takes forever to sell it though, as the market for such things is very small, I have probably sold half of her collection. I still probably have over $20,000 value in her collection sitting around. But no one wants to buy it the last few years. I have only sold a few of her things each year for the last few years. I have bears, dolls, and art glass worth $100 or more each, and I will get people offering me $20 for a $100-$200 item of hers. In many cases I have receipts for what she paid, guidebooks for their value, so I know what it is worth.
Out of respect to her memory and all the money and effort she spent on her collection, I refuse to sell her stuff for next to nothing, and while I have no space for it, I would rather keep her collection stored with the listings active and wait for someone that is willing to pay for what an item is worth. If an item sells, it sells, if not, I will wait twenty years to sell the rest if need be. I bring her up because she is a great example of how collecting anything can get out of control, and how you should never let it get to the point where you have to file for bankruptcy over it. And even though I go overboard at times, I have kept my collecting more under control in comparison to her.
Anyway, I am rambling again. If my comments are long, it is because I tend to hyper focus on the things that I enjoy because I have aspergers, for me it is horror, and I suppose that is why I have focused my collection largely on horror, sci-fi, and animation and why my collection is not as diverse in genre as many others I have seen online like for example your collection seems to be more widely varied than mine. Yeah, I have classic dramas, crime, spaghetti westerns, comedies, action, adventure and other films in my collection, but not as many as other people I have seen have.
My girlfriend's parents are not into horror, and because of that they have never shown an interest in my large wall of movies. Lucky for me though, my girlfriend enjoys horror almost as much as me, she isn't obsessed with it like me, but she has enjoyed watching many of the films in my collection with me over the years.
Don't feel too bad about doubledipping to upgrade to the newer formats, so many of us have done it, if it is a film that you absolutely love, then it is worth the upgrade if you enjoy the upgrade. And you can always clear out the older duplicates for more storage space like you have been doing because as you said it brings you clarity and you get on the path to having a more curated collection.

Halloween is another I frequently dip into.
Not sure if I showed in the video but some of the titles I still have on laserdisc too. The Thing and Halloween included.
One of the things I do think about with the collection is who has to deal with it when I’m gone and what happens to it. It’s kinda morbid to think about but it’s one of the things that made me consider what I’m keeping hold of and for what reasons. If it isn’t getting used then there just no longer seems a massive reason to be keeping hold of everything… particularly when they’re double and I’m not going to use another version. Sometimes I do keep a double if there’s exclusive content I want to keep but everything else… I need to limit it down.
My problem now is… taking the time to start listing items on eBay. I cleared a bunch to CEX on trade but there’s also some I know the worth of and I know eBay would be the best place to get the best value back. It’s then just down to that time issue.
I don’t want to break off doing these RUclips videos just to be able to list things on eBay 😂
I will get to it… I need to get to it. Perhaps make a video of me listing things 😂 2 birds, 1 stone !

@@PhillwithadoubleLI saw some of your laser discs in one or two of your videos, I can't recall if I saw those two though.
I love the first two Halloween's, the third is interesting as a non Michael Myers film. But as far as Michael Myers goes, I don't quite care to follow Halloween for him beyond Halloween 2. I lost interest after that.
I get your thoughts about who will have to deal with it when you are gone and what will happen to it. While morbid, I can see how that is helping you consider what you keep and why. I do feel that there is no point in anyone worrying about what will happen to the things they enjoyed when they are gone. We all go eventually, and we won't know what happens to our stuff unless we make arrangements. I wouldn't let such thoughts get in the way for anyone enjoying what they love. I have occasionally thought about what would happen to my film collection when I am gone, I have thought about how it would be nice if it went to someone or a place that will enjoy the cinema history of it all. But I have never dwelt on that long, because it seems like it would be so hard to arrange, how would you find someone who cares enough to want it. So, I don't worry about that. Although handling my late grandma's collection has left me dealing with it personally which is why I have thought of it. I was the only one in the family that had space for her collection, so I took it with me.
It can take a long time listing things on Ebay if you have a lot to list, finding the value of an item, especially taking quality photos, writing detailed descriptions, etc. My main experience is listing my grandma's collection. She collected Boyd's bears, Annette Funicello bears, dolls by various brands, and Fenton art glass.
Unlike with movies and games, you cannot carry in a teddy bear or a doll to a store and trade it in! Ebay is the only place for that sort of thing. And even then, it is not like trying to sell a more widely desired valuable item. It is a conundrum, when the items are worth a lot, but the market is so small that you cannot find the buyer. I have a metal shelf that is ceiling height full of her stuff, and in the hallway I have boxes stacked with more inside them. It is way more clutter than my movie collection, but I know it is worth a great deal of money. It was selling well for about six years then it just stopped selling likely because the economy is bad and as mentioned the market for her stuff is not a wide demographic. I have resigned myself to waiting as the years go by hoping the rest sells over time.
I have tried to show appreciation for the dolls, bears, and art glass, but it is just not my thing. There are a few pieces of art glass I keep out because they are pretty. But overall I hold my sentimental value with more simpler things that she left behind than designer bears and dolls.
I have never really done trade in much for my stuff, because I am aware they give you less than half its value. I would definitely advise even if you take your time, if you have releases that you no longer want that are worth more. I don't suggest you trade them in. Put them up on Ebay at your own pace when you feel you have the time. Because if you trade an OOP release in they will just then sell it for what it is worth after giving you half of what it is worth.
One tip that I learned from listing my grandma's collection is that for most categories Ebay takes about 13-15 percent of the total final sale value with shipping included. If a title is worth a lot, and if you want the full value, and you need the money, factor in Ebay taking their cut. That is why prices on Ebay are usually priced up for pretty much any collectable, and other online auction sites are similar. For my grandma's collection, I put up a price with best offer to factor in haggle room, so I can hopefully get an offer close to what it is worth with fees included. With most of her stuff, it is still worth at least what she paid, so I try to get close to what she paid. And when I clear out a movie I no longer want the same principle applies, I try to again get as close as I can to what it is worth if it is a valued OOP title.
If you are having fun making your videos, don't stop making what you enjoy to spend long boring periods of time making tedious listings unless you really need to sell it as soon as possible.
And I would say that eventually making a video of you listing things is a good idea! There you go! You have another idea for another entertaining video!

I used to sell off the duplicates, but now it doesn’t seem worth the effort. You can’t sell them for much more than .50 cents to a dollar. You can donate them or give them to a family member or collector. The thing about physical media today is that’s it’s getting harder to find. I fear that in the near future even more so. The studios want more control to stream, re release in theaters etc, and with physical media that causes those efforts to not be as controlled or successful. So, it may not be a bad idea to keep what you have, or share, but I still think it’s a good idea to buy the movies that you like and upgrade when possible to the best format on your favorites. I, like you have owned my favorites on VHS, CED videodisc, Laserdisc, DVD, Blu-ray and 4K. History repeats itself so maybe in the future another format comes along that revives physical media. For now protect your collection.

You are *certainly* not alone! My plan on double-dipping generally (and FWIW I do have a plan!) is to put any 'upgraded' title (i.e. format improvement) into either the 'sell/exchange' box OR the 'store because it has unported extras' box (which might also cover unique collector packaging).
The plan obviously is then to pass on those I don't have a reason (self inflicted reason) to keep. However I accept through pure laziness I now have so many I am overwhelmed by the thought of taking them into CeX (or whatever exchange shop is best).
I also confess the 'keep for unported extras' though I think it's fair, never actually has a point because I can't remember the last time I actually picked up one of those discs to watch that extra... I don't have enough time for watch films or programmes let alone extras (especially ones on old, stored away discs).
I do also have a couple of titles where I do a "collect all the versions" though, luckily because Nova Media, WeET, BluFans etc are *very* expensive, that only applies to 3 or 4 titles!
I am determined this year to clear out superseded versions that have no reason to be kept (though occasionally I might put the new 4K from the Amaray in the old Blu-ray steelbook before passing on the BD and plastic (though generally I must say it annoys me to have the wrong disc in the case even when it's the right movie!).
Sadly (and I think my wife will be disappointed) I don't think it will make as much difference to the free space as she thinks it will as they're already off the shelves and boxed away...😢

Of course, I’ll still keep some double for the reasons you mentioned but I need to be more considered around the reasons why I want to keep.
Actually thinking of doing a video with the state of how I’ve hoarded some titles. It’s not just Blu ray. There’s also the laser discs and I still hold onto some old gaming consoles.

_"The Struggle is Real, Phill !!"_ I've so far spent well over $2,000 on my collection just during this past holiday season alone. Nearly all were 4K's with Slipcover or Steelbook. Additionally, since I purchased >90% of these titles during massive sales, on many titles I purchased both the slipcover AND the steelbook editions. _That's how truly pathetic I am._ And because that wasn't enough, I also bought 2nd and (in very few cases) a 3rd fk'ing copy of a steelbook if I really loved it. Both these additional copies intended for future Gifts to friends, as I know that many of these steelbooks will one day be well out of print (I already have many from years ago that were cheap in their day, and now fetch outrageous prices on eBay.)
In total this binge season I added at least 70 titles to my own collection, plus a ridiculous backlog of 'spare/gift' units. Heck, I just spent another $200 just this past weekend on a new binge shopping run. I too feel the inner conflict as others do in the community. Why do I do this? I generally only choose films that I truly have interest in seeing _more than once,_ but honestly when I see a beautiful slipcover or especially steelbook, I'll give that high consideration just for that aspect alone. I've wasted, I mean invested, Plenty of $$ on such titles.
I admit it's an addiction, but I've come to terms with it in my mind: When I see a film (always at home now) I typically try to make it a small 'event': I pull out the media, look at the slipcover or steelbook, hold it, read it, enjoy the artwork and review its film specifications, ...Everything. Take a few minutes with it. Soak it in. Seriously, a lot of work is put into these films and this little piece of media + artwork is my own piece of homage to that effort. AND they're fun & beautiful! My latest revelation is that I'm going to get a little picture stand and just prop my media on that stand, over to the side of the TV, during my screening. This will be the Marquee for my 'movie event'. Just like when you go to the theatre and stare at the poster before you walk in. Except, this at home is so much better.
Obviously I'm not even covering the technical merits of physical, like bonus features (which as you duly point out are not always same across new releases, and I LOVE these things). And better yet, discs having *_FAR_* superior audio bitrates than streaming. I do like streaming too, but only for its immediate convenience on things I don't care to watch more than once. Bcuz that right there is also its downfall: when you can just sit down and *Press Play* on a whim, well to me the whole _Theatrical Experience_ gets killed right along with it. There's no build-up to the event, and therefore there can be No nostalgia for your experience; it just feels 'empty'. It's not necessarily bad, but it certainly does not 'add' to the experience. So My Conclusion: I love physical media, that's just not going to change bcuz I'm set in my ways, and so I buy whatever The F*k I Want! Life is for Living!!

I’ve this week been sorting through the DVDs. Lots for trade / charity. Sleeving those that aren’t on Blu ray yet. Movies everywhere but hopefully be on top and clearing out soon.
Then, when dvd is clear I need to look closer at the Blu ray and these pesky doubles.
I’ve found that making these videos is helping me think through my reasons for collecting and keeping. It’s quite cathartic.
Plus, it’s helping me connect with other like minded folks with some great suggestions

Mission Impossible: 1 disc DVD and 6 years later there release 2 disc SE DVD with the bonus disc. It also include new cover and disc art, but i whant it for bonus disc and i only pay € 1,00 for it. I pay Fl 43,45 (19,50 €) for 1 disc DVD at start of my collection (2001).
Bandits: 2002 DVD release with extra's(Bought in 2003 for € 4,99) and 2004 DVD version with same front cover without extra's. Last one was a gift.
I have BD/DVD Combopacks too, but i count them as Bluray.
The other double ones are movie's that i only collect on VHS and deside to buy on DVD too and in one case on VHS and BD. 20 Bond movie's (Till Tomorrow Never Dies, CR1967 and Never Say Never Again) that i have on VHS also on DVD. I also have first 2 Jurassic Park movie's, Independence Day, The Mask on VHS and DVD. The Batman movie's i have on VHS and BD.
I have one movie on VHS left that i whant BD/DVD Compoback from: Fantasia (1940) and mabey some day i stil whant to have The Rock (1996) on BD (If there release new edition who include audiocommentary).
My moost expensive Bluray is € 15,00 and that be for 4 disc 3d Edtion with slipcover of The Hobbit 2. Last couple of years twice i pay € 10,00 for 2 disc Bluray (i only did this because with second title of 6,00 and 3th title for 5,00 i pay 21 in total anf feels like delayed buy 3 pay 2.) and 2 disc 3D bluray with slipcover for € 10,00. Climate is changed 2-3 years since i started in 2012-2013 and those days with only 1-2 (3) local stores left and only 1 online store. For dvd's and start of my BD collection i spend more because it was fresh and there be more to buy. Iam happy with everything that i can stil buy, but there are stil some releases that even more difficult to get. Where are all those lefts overs for example.

I get rid of all doubles and keep the version with the best picture. Often times the extras on DVDs are just 5-10 minute long featurette of the cast talking about the making of the film, and are not worth keeping once you've seen them once. The only time I will keep a DVD when I already own a Blu-ray is when there is a good commentary track not found on newer versions.

    • @PhillwithadoubleL
      @PhillwithadoubleL  7 месяцев назад +1

It’s always those audio commentaries that seem the most troublesome to get moved across to a newer release. I noticed the Michael Mann commentary for Miami Vice wasn’t ported across to the new 88Films release recently.
Some of my doubles have been sheer laziness I’m not organising the latest releases properly so I don’t go back and pull out the older version. Then others… no idea why I’ve felt the need to keep hold of them.
Now I’ve pulled them all off the shelf for the video it’s giving me chance to get better organised.

    • @kensonnezumi
      @kensonnezumi 7 месяцев назад +1

Some of the DVD commentaries can be quite good and difficult to part with. I have a few movies with unique commentary tracks (Cat People) or additional picture detail (Eyes Wide Shut's unmatted 1.78:1 ratio full frame DVD). In those cases I buy a standard double-disc Blu-ray case and pair the old DVD disc with the new BRD and artwork. @@PhillwithadoubleL

Seeing my friend next week and me gonna try and raise £30-50 inc a blu-ray or 2, like thelma and louise Roxanne, Mississippi Burning and Misery my old dvd is Region 1, and both my players will not play it, slightly annoyimg when i wanna upgrade an old 70s dvd but the film has not been upgraded yet, TRAGIC

I was looking at upgrading the Thelma & Louise DVD to the criterion release Blu ray yesterday. Just waiting on a criterion sale at the mo.
Thankfully I have a region free player for the Blu ray and dvd. I’ve needed it as often used to import so a old chunk of my collection is region locked.

I had to hold off a pick up the other day because I couldn’t remember if I had it or not. 😂
I need to start using a tracking app or something.

I wish I was just a double dipper but unfortunately it's all my fingers and toes so what's a 10 dipper lol

Maybe trade your doubles with a buddy for something you don't have

Absolutely. The doubles are getting either traded / sold or given away. There’s no need for them if I have a superior version. If there’s a particular extra feature that’s worthy of being kept I may keep for that reason but it’s likely that most will just be cleared out.
