Are we missing the fact that this is basically the Tim "Ripper" Owens story? Tim was in a Judas Priest tribute band. When Halford left someone sent the band a tape of Owens. He got the gig, and (I may be wrong here) his first album with them was Juggulator. When Halford wanted to come back Owens left the band. Tim was also a vocalist for Iced Earth, replacing and being replaced by Matthew Barlow, and sings in the Dio's Disciples band (basically Dio without Ronnie, though they do have a hologram).
The film was supposedly approved by Priest, and then wasn't, so changes were made. I remember watching this and thinking, "This is the Tim Owens story!"
Fun Fact: In the film, Marky Mark goes to Seattle and starts singing Grungey Alternative singer-songwriter stuff. In real life, Tim Owens also sang for a band called Seattle, doing covers of Grungey Alternative singer-songwriter stuff.

A brilliant (& personally chilling) poignant scene by a motion picture for rock music fans!!....as were many in this film!! The construed juvenile scenes were cute. An exceptional production of a simple story created & executed perfectly by all those behind it and cast in it! An undersold yet timeless cult film that didn’t get the recognition it deserved.
