Ahhhh nostalgia... I was growing up in the 1980s. This is my first favorite episode of the series. My second favorite: Cinderella. Thanks for the post. You brought back great memories.
My childhood! I actually bought these on dvd back in the early 2000's I had loved them so much on Nickelodeon as a child. So happy to see them here so I can share them with my nieces and nephew.
Staring Eric Idle I expected this story to be comical, but it was actually very dark and disturbing. Though the dialogue is spoken in rhymes, the frankness of it all is bone chilling.
This rendition of The Pied Piper was directed by Nicholas Meyer who went on to direct Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan and again with Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country.
There's more to it. Corruption by those in trusted societal positions costs the people who trusted them the most. Also, if the social group isn't doing their absolute best, they can be enthralled and lured away to their fates by sweet lies of an outsider.
Each character stands real... the piper hypnotizing under an occult veil Long back in my younger years The pied piper story was taught by my teachers As a lesson In my school of boys Lamartiniere When a person is betrayed by peers all are avenged with tears, Like Hamelin holocausted with piper's curse, dare not to play any political affairs The mayor repented for not giving the deserving share lately searched for piper to hear now wishing to give him gold and silver. Once realizing that it was a lost endeavor they expiated when their children were gone forever Actually you remember the words of piper in action That he shall protect the lame boy from any unnatural selection As rainbow in vision is always an illusion and the pleasant sights that children were taken for was just a sweet poison and nothing more. Sadly the boy did not realized that he was never deprived, as those withdrawn children who went to the mountain missed their parents and gaurdian. With all promises the lame boy was given That he was the only one forgiven
Yup. It was in the 1980's that the late James Horner made a name for himself. Including this motion picture, just before he lent his music to Don Bluth's "An American Tail".
He first did the score for Star Trek II The Wrath of Khan and Star Trek III the search for Spock. He did Cocoon and Cocoon:The Return, Aliens and Avatar. He did Titanic and The Amazing Spider-Man. He was killed in a plane crash in 2015.
Hamelin Town is flooded with rats and the Mayor announces Ten Thousand Gold coins as a reward to those who dispose off all the rats from the town. The Pied Piper played his flute and all the rats follow his tune right into the river. The greedy Mayor refuses to reward him. The Piper teaches him a lesson

My absolute favorite of all the FAERIE TALE THEATRE stories!
I totally agree . The best of all the tales ! The children paid for the parents play .
Mine as well, apart from this I even liked Rip Wan Winkle as well.
Anyone else who saw this in 2022? So amazing!
Time has tried to wash a way tales like these. And im ever so grateful that people like you help make them exist still. Thank you.
+spirals 73 Yes....

Back when Nickelodeon was good and versatile, now it’s all Spongebob.
I love that all of the dialogue is in rhyme!
this is the scariest tale in this show
So beautiful...yet so fragile...rest in peace Shelley...you are now free of your demons.

It's a poem by Robert Browning.

I loved this tale. The rhyming made it very easy to understand. 😅
corrupt corporations have been a thing since the 1300's and before. this is deep thanks for posting.
Same . Such heavy advice in children's tale .
Never make promises you cannot ever keep
Megan W. you are incredible! I ADORE fairy tales. Thank you.
Same .
So many wonderful actors in their prime.
Moral of the story: A PROMISE IS A PROMISE, A DEBT IS A DEBT. NEVER MAKE A PROMISE TO PAY A DEBT YOU NEVER PLANNED ON PAYING OR ELSE.
Like Shelley Duvall said at the beginning, "Woe to Hamelin if the Piper's not paid."
But how did they get those rats to do all the stuff?? And why do the rats all sound like birds?

+Megan W..Oh Really?
I've always loved this story
Promises and pie crusts are made to be broken is short-sighted .
that song still haunts me
46:54 WHOA, WHOA, WHOA! I didn't know Walt Disney Studios recorded James Horner's music for this picture!
It's a gooden and we do love a gooden
Each character stands real...
the piper hypnotizing under an occult veil
Long back in my younger years
The pied piper story was taught by my teachers
As a lesson In my school of boys Lamartiniere
When a person is betrayed by peers
all are avenged with tears,
Like Hamelin holocausted with piper's curse, dare not to play any political affairs
The mayor repented for not giving the deserving share
lately searched for piper to hear
now wishing to give him gold and silver.
Once realizing that it was a lost endeavor
they expiated when their children were gone forever
Actually you remember the words of piper in action
That he shall protect the lame boy from any unnatural selection
As rainbow in vision
is always an illusion
and the pleasant sights that children were taken for
was just a sweet poison
and nothing more.
Sadly the boy did not realized
that he was never deprived,
as those withdrawn children
who went to the mountain
missed their parents and gaurdian.
With all promises the lame boy was given
That he was the only one forgiven
I feel so sorry for the crippled little boy left behind I know the feeling
Yeah. Me to bub.
Howyaduing - I KNOW! T-T I wanted to hug the boy when he described the place he was promised to be taken. *Hugs boy*
dont feel sorry for him feel happiness the legend says the kids that left w the pie piper became slaves and some even sexual slaves in bagdad
Yes . He danced them all to Asia and the middle East . To beyond the Carpathian mountains .

In a twisted kind of way, the lame child was the lucky one.
My child I shall terrify--before I say, "Good night, good bye."
It's music so amazing
The performance also . It had lots of heart .
41:17-41:22, Poor woman.
The actor who played Jack Marshak from Friday the 13th tv series is in this episode! Cool!
The Piper is Good but he is also cruel to the cruel
how are they gonna swim through the deepest water in the very far off lake
36:50 poltergeist homage
Dang. I thought all the comments might rhyme.
Maybe y’all just did not have time.
Same here. 😂
it's very bad has happened
Good story ❤❤❤❤

What you gonna do brother when Hulkamania runs wild on you!
👍👍👍
The piperkep his promise to the boy
"Tall & thin"
Eric Idle must weigh 16 stone.
"with sharp blue eyes , each like a pin . . . "

My brother was one of the children in this episode. They housed the rats in the room next to the children
