OMG OMG OMG this was the episode I was looking for the past 30 years !!!! I was about 5 years old when this was shown in India in 1990-91 on the Govt run Doordarshan channel. I was too small to even remember what was going on in any of the episodes or even the name of this series. But I distinctly remember that Platform thingy floating amongst the stars. Over the past 30 years, I kept wondering what was that all about. Only a month ago, I found the name of the series is Faerie Tale Theatre and I have been watching every episode till I got to this one what I was looking for. To the uploader : the 5 year kid inside me thanks you a million times. 🙏
"Cold be hot and friends be kind. When love unites the heart and mind." This story and its message are so wonderful. It is interesting to note that Gerda (Melissa Gilbert) and Kay (Lance Kerwin) had acted together in an episode of "Little House on the Prairie" many years prior to the filming of this episode. I wonder if they struck up a friendship in real life?
Oh wow! This was my absolute FAVORITE episode as a kid! I remember vividly my mother renting me this VHS from the library everytime I was sick. It always helped me feel better. Thank u so much for uploading!! Brings back so many cherished childhood memories 🤗👍🏻🥰🎭🎬📽🎞⭐🍿📼👏🏻👨👩👧👦🎗💯
Not knocking Frozen, but with so many stories about boys saving girls, it might have been nice if they could have stuck a little closer to the source material for one of the few fairytales that has the girl saving the boy.
The Snow Queen has Gerda going on a quest to rescue Kai while most Disney movies have princes saving the princess. This has gotten better and Frozen was still great, but it might have been nice if they could still make this basic story, perhaps with Elsa as a mysterious figure who children in another kingdom have heard about but don’t know a lot about her and she can have a similar role to the way Fairy Tale Theater did it.
I remember these programs from the 1980's. Yes, I'm a relic of 52, haha. Faerie Tale Theatre seemed to have a limited budget but Shelley Duvall made them always seem stylish and lovely ... good sets, costumes, makeup, music, props. Too bad the episodes were not shot on film, instead of video tape (most likely another expense they bypassed)-- but that's just my own personal preference. There's always a fun cast. This one is no exception: we have Lee Remick (Anatomy of a Murder, The Omen), Lauren Hutton (supermodel of her day), Melissa Gilbert (Laura Ingalls of Little House on the Prairie), Lance Kerwin (Salem's Lot, James at 15).
I'm 41, and this was one of my very favorite shows from the time; still is 😄 I love these so much, and getting to see some of my favorite, now passed, actors. I rewatch these at bedtime sometimes, ah the cozy childhood memories 🤗
That's just Fairytale Theater. They weren't trying to traumatize young children on television in the early 80s. Was still nice to have these growing up.
Not a fairytale. Its a dominion. Look how the earth, water, light and air holds itself together within a universe with no gravity. Samething here, look how the cold air from the snow queen's domain doesn't interfer with the summer lady's territory and vise versa. Dominions are real and everybody has that inside of them, its just waiting to be released so it can work for you
I would have never seen this if not for Ms Duvall's passing. What a shame. A-list actors, high production values, creative approach towards the original material. This story in particular is a very loose adaptation of the original story by Hans Christian Andersen but it works just fine!
Is it just me or do Kai and Gerda look similar to Kristoff and Anna in Frozen? I know Frozen is loosely based on the Snow Queen, but the physical similarities between the characters is kind of a funny coincidence.
This isn't the version I watched and I'm struggling to find the one I did.. I just want to watch the scene where the glass snow falls into his eye and i can't find it for the life of me
This version is actually a very good representation of the character. She is SUPPOSED to be in the role of mentor, that's the whole point: she's not just one-dimensional and scary.
My mother convinced me for 30+ years that I dreamt this. The relief/release of knowing it exists!!!!! Rewatching.
How beautiful and magical to see this again! 💫
I've been looking for this episode for 20 yrs.
It’s an episode? ( I’ve always thought that it was a short movie 💀)
I loved fairy tale theatre. This one is the best.
I haven’t seen this since I was like 10 years old (age 43 now)! This episode made “The Snow Queen” my lifelong favorite fairy tale.💙❄️👑💙
So magical and enchanting 💫
A wonderful journey back to childhood!

R.I.P. Lance Kerwin. He passed away yesterday.

She was breathtakingly beautiful and freezing as the Snow Queen
A beauuuuuuuutiful fairy tale.
I miss you Shelley Duvall 🥺❤️

This fairy tale served as the inspiration for the Disney movie, Frozen.

I used to watch this daily!

Yess but i really love fact that these episodes was filmed on video tape instead of film... it's more magical
@@vannity8 Looks like a daytime soap to me but if you like it then that's cool
I remember watching this when I was little, I just now remembered it, so I looked it up!
Do you get the message inside it?
I like how this fairytale episode has some educational content in it like learning about the seasons and nature.
Thank you for posting this. Thank you Shelley Duvall.
Love this tv serie 💗💗💗💗
Omg...I was searching for this since ...I don't know.
This is the best Snow queen movie I remember as a kid.
Thank you, I love it❤
👺 Kai & Gerda moved into a 'Little House on the Prairie' where they lived happily ever after, free from space goblins and that mean ol' Nellie Oleson.
😂
Well they really changed the story just to make the snow queen not evil. I don’t know how much this added to the original fairy tale.
That's just Fairytale Theater. They weren't trying to traumatize young children on television in the early 80s. Was still nice to have these growing up.
Rip Shelly
dude looks like he BELONGS in this fairytale
casting director made a good choice

Gerda And Kai Are Best Friends Just Like Me And Darington.
OMG! I think that is same actress who portrayed Laura Ingils Wilder?
You're absolutely right, that's Melissa Gilbert and she did play Laura on Little House on the Prairie 🙂
Psych.... Melissa Gilbert is the older sister of Sarah Gilbert of the Talk, Roseanne/The Connors.
my favorite.
8:32-10:39, That goblin has turned Kai against Gerda by stinging his heart and eyes with shattered glass.
Now he’s bad, he’s very mean to dear Gerda, because his heart is now a lump of cold ice
The hidden word was immortality
Have amsisia?
Well just buy some roses from the sister of the ice queen 😉

Gerda and Anna have the same hair color. She is also based on the character Gerda. Kristoff is based on both Kai and The Robber Girl characters.
Shelley Duvall
Anyone know the name of the actress that plays the wolf girl??
very nice
I got nightmares from this fairy tale when I was a little girl, aside from The Little Mermaid. -Lor-
the snow queen is so creepy..........
I love the creepy factor - lends to how mysterious and awe-inspiring she is to Kai and the viewer.
So is this FROZEN lol the "snow queen" is elsa & "the lady of summer" is happy Elsa haha

The glass starts falling on him around 9:06 and goes into his eye at 9:08
@@undeadondine1977 thank u but still isn't the version I watched x
@@rachaelmarie8306 No problem ☺️ hopefully you'll find the right version.
I don't like adaptations that attempt to humanize the Snow Queen. One of the weaker entries in the series. Still has beautiful sceneries!
So Frozen...?
This version is actually a very good representation of the character. She is SUPPOSED to be in the role of mentor, that's the whole point: she's not just one-dimensional and scary.
Perhaps you don't understand who and what she is.
They did it in a different way in the 2002 movie.
Laura Ingalls
loooooool
isn't the snow queen evil
She’s so beautiful, mysterious, and cold like a snowflake ❄️
She's neutral. The Snow Queen is the inspiration for Elsa in Frozen
