      @@kimgrantphotography hi Kim thanks for this super video that is also pedagogical.
      I am a university instructor but my photography and videography interest and skills (from a very low level imho) exploded during the pandemic. When you did the recap I thought, exactly how I would do it after a lecture, recap some of the key points towards the end. Cheers!
      With regard to air quality this of course is generally the case...but...just like clouds can be at different levels the same can be said of air quality. Consider the fantastic sunsets we can sometimes get when volcanic ash is in the upper part of the troposphere but the air is much clearer in the lower part of the troposphere. Says the environmental studies lecturer.
      I use the clear outside app since it provides forecasts in tabular form which I prefer.

      Thank you Janet. I feel similar to you. I can usually tell when it's going to happen. It can take years of looking at the sky and feeling the weather to learn this. I enjoyed learning more about the process making this video though. It helps put those intuitive knowings together with the science.

    • @kimgrantphotography
      @kimgrantphotography  3 года назад +1

      Very much so - just reversed and you don't have the luxury of watching the clouds in the hours leading up to a sunrise. There can be a few differences though which I may cover in a future video.

    When filming the sunsets where I live, I've started using a Tiffin Pro Mist filter to get an interesting glow.
    Have you ever considered something similar for video rather than photos?

  • @marknichols554
    @marknichols554 3 года назад

    Great tips thanks, does pressure have an effect also? Under high pressure it is usually sunnier and may produce better conditions for sunsets, including lower humidity.

    • @kimgrantphotography
      @kimgrantphotography  3 года назад +1

      Yes - from what I've read the pressure makes up all the factors I've mentioned. With high pressure you get sunnier more settled weather and low pressure brings with rain and wind. I imagine somewhere between the changes in the pressure works best for sunsets. If it's been high for a few days, you've got little cloud to add interest and little breeze to clear the air but low pressure can have too much cloud. Changing weather usually brings the best light so if you see the pressure changing, that should be a good time to head out.

    • @kimgrantphotography
      @kimgrantphotography  3 года назад

      If you want the whole rainbow in shot, you really need a wide angle lens. I think some phone may have a wide angle mode but I am not sure. You can get great shots with just half a rainbow though :)

  • @hjones451

    A sunny day that doesn't end with a sunset, will normally produce the best sunrise the following morning.
