The 102 seems like it has a bit more top end but the 87 sounds fuller with a nice top end.
The 87 also has a transformer which add a little harmonic character.

I have to say raw wise it doesnt sound better by much, but drop in a mix its really nice. It's also probably good for people with voices that are prone to sibiliance. Also looks way better HAHA.

Just got the 87r2 a week ago and have had tlm 102 for a year now… i will not be using the 102 anymore.. the 87 is drastically better in the 2-5 k range… also captures more depth and width of vocal. Barely have to eq
I find the 87r2 is more pleasing. TLM102 is alittle harsh to me at times.
I've tried both, they're both really good mics , however the WA87-R2 is better for vocals, because of its punchy mid section, the TLM 102 is better for other applications.
It is difficult to hear the differences between these 2 mics in this test. Could you do some side by side comparisons with singing vocals and acoustic guitar please? With enough video run time for each test to allow us to hear the differences? Thank you!
That will be hard. Unless I got a singer come by. Maybe in the future like a month or two time

appreciate the honest reviews I just picked up the new WA 87 R2 have not been home yet to check it out I think for the price I'd get a brighter accurate mic like baby bottle blue for $300 rather than the TLM 102 save the $4000 for something else
Personally i think WA87 is better then TLM102. Both as a raw and mixed voice. But if you get a WA87 already, theres not much point to get another brighter mic unless you have a singer that needs it.
How do you like it?
I feel like TLM102 is better when it comes to loud vocal but overall WA87 sounds more pleasant to ears:)

Yah I prefer the wa87 r2 more. It’s less harsh and overall slightly smoother. I rarely use my tlm102

Which one you prefer between this and wa-251? Which one is more brighter? Which one has warmer low end in your opinion?
Im actually not to sure. I remember when I compared the w251 with the tlm102, it was as bright but smoother. While the WA87 felt slightly darker but fuller. So if based on this thoughts, the WA87 is probably fuller and slightly warmer while WA251 is probably brighter and smoother.
@@ZPProductions how about self noise? So wa87 is darker and warmer than wa251....
@Firdaus Fadzil WA251 was rather similar to the tlm with a little mid boost. Self noise is very similar so no difference.

I went to buy the nueman 102 and it was sold out they had to order it so the guy just kept tellin get the warm audio wa 87 which was sold out to they had to order it as well but the guy just kept tellin me to this wa 87 it’s a version of the 4000 nueman but for some reason I still feel like I shoulda got the nueman I feel like I let the guy talk me out my dream mic that I’ve literally been wanting for years what do u guys think I made the wrong decision?
If it isn’t a TLM 103 you were wasting your money. The WA87 is close to the U87 so why regret getting something initially that’s better in the long run?
Definitaly the TLM 102 ... better color, more substance and it captures more depth in the voice. It's as if you get a more complete, living "picture" of the voice

I hated the r2 version, was was just brash sounding and hollow, no strong mids , the r1 version was better for sure
Why did you like the tlm102 more? In every sample wa-87 r2 sounds richer and warmer. Got a TLM102 thinking about replacing it with the wa-87 r2
@@gangs0846 the tlm has a good sound without compression or eq and it takes eq very well, the wa87 r2 for me at least was very harsh sounding from the get go, and i didnt like how it took eq. I could find my self using it on something else like a drum room mic.
I recently bought the stam 87, but its based on an older version of the u87 so its not as bright as the current modern u87ai, if you can afford the extra money its a great step up from the warm 87 r2
