Mike usually gives a useful hint at the beginning, in this case the clever routing of the gain structure. Great! Btw, I just bought this. Tried it on a sidestick/snare channel and left me smiling. The deesser cleaned the hihat bleed without clogging the sparkle of the drum. I´m impressed.
I have been searching for a good walk-through of the Voxbox since I added it to my system. I am a voice actor and use it solely for getting the perfect sound of my voice. This video is just what I was looking for. I did notice however in the demonstration in trying to show the different settings using the EQ that the XMFR was in the bypass mode. Other than that, this video was very helpful.
Hey Mike Did you record the original vocal using the UAD onboard mic pre's and what Mic did you use? I trying to decide if I should use a nice clean mic pre like the Grace 101 (bypassing the UAD unison) and then use the Manley VoxBox to process later.
Cheers! I will look into them a bit more. They do not market their product very well on the pro side, only on the consumer side. It makes me hesitant to demo their emulations.
I've been hoping for this in plug-in form. Supposedly U2 uses the real hardware unit on Bono's voice sometimes. I'll wait for a sale maybe though. It's a bit pricey!
Hi Nikolas, Not sure what their deal is with Manley on that. Some plugins rarely go on sale except for December and June. If it launches not on sale, that may not be a good sign. Pricey, but a great plugin! Cheers! Mike
I demo'ed it, and loved it right away. I tried to emulate the sound with various of my other UAD + Non UAD plugins, but it seemed to win almost all the time. I have this tendency to fall in love with new plugins, so I'm holding off for now, but what is your verdict compared to other chains? Do you believe this is superior? And did you buy it yourself Michael? I always come to your reviews to find an opinion. Thanks!
This one is amazing and I did get it. The fact that you can track with the whole chain as a Unison Pre makes it worth the investment. All of the Unison channel strips have compressors that would not be a first choice for tracking vocals. This is the only one that does. That's the difference to me.
Hello Mike! I've recently purchased the Apollo twin duo and I want to purchase a plugin. I'm a Hip Hop artist (Emcee) and I want clear and clean vocals. Should I purchase the Neve 1073 or Manley Voxbox first? I will eventually overtime purchase all of the UAD plugins but I really need a plugin that will take my vocals to the next level now. Thankyou Mike!
Of the 2 I would take the Manley VoxBox because it is a full channel strip with compression and EQ. You can dial in the sound you like, stroe it as a preset and be good to go for all your vocal work. The 1073 is also amazing but offers less flexibility. Cheers! Mike
What I hate about UAD is that I simply have no way to even demo there products without the hardware. I can't even tell for certain if I'll like it because I can't even try it :(. My own vocal chain consists of bx console, Presswerk, that new Waves VoiceCentric and enhancers like the SPL Vitalizer. It sounds great, but I'd love an authentic vocal channels strip like this outside of UAD's gated community. Hopefully another company will take advantage and make something more openly available.
Hey Gabriel, The UAD platform is a great investment if you have the cash to get in and I highly recommend it. I think as a company, overall, their emulations are the best and I love that they stay true to the original look of the hardware. This is their specialty and what they are known for. Cheers! Mike
UAD has never been an option for me because they're wayyyyyy overpriced. For the amount of money that their interface cost and like 4 of their plugins for a vocal chain you could have a Focusrite interface, a Warm Audio WA12 MK2 mic preamp, and a decent hardware compressor that will give you a REAL hardware vocal chain. I bought the WA12 MK2 mic preamp, then I bought the LL2A compressor limiter from Little Labs, and a Tonelux EQ5P Parametric EQ with a Fredenstein lunchbox, and those pieces came out to 2,400 bucks. That's the price of a UAD interface!!!! 😂 😂 😂. I don't see why ANYBODY wouldn't just go with hardware over UAD. If you're spending 300 bucks on a single plugin which is what a lot of UAD plugins cost, you might as well just invest in the real deal. Just my opinion.
Yes, great question. I've been trying to accomplish the sound of the vocal, previous to this, for years now. Always love that "Brandy" sound. Could never figure out the chain. An answer would be most helpful. Thanks

Thanks for the awesome videos man! Huge fan of your channel.
This unit is very easy to deal with. I'm hesitating between this one and the Avalon. The tweakability of this one is awesome.
It's amazing how you can hear those little details. Great video. I look forward to watching more of them!
Thanks Taggart!
It's sounds great on line acoustics too :) amazing
Great video. Thanks for listening to the request for zooming :)
I love the 5K res of my screen but it means I have to stay conscious of zooming. Thanks for reminding me.
Cheers!

Great Vocal! And Nice Track !!! Where can I hear the whole Track ??
Don't believe this has been released yet. I will contact the producer.
Mike you are the best! :-)
Why don't you review some IK Multimedia TRacks as well? I saw you have them in your menus ...
Cheers!
I will look into them a bit more. They do not market their product very well on the pro side, only on the consumer side. It makes me hesitant to demo their emulations.
Many UAD users use them as native alternatives though. Their emulations are top notch too.
+Michael White Always best! BTW IK Mmedia are very good plugins for sure!
Another great review Mike hope all is well buddy
Thanks Santo!
All is great!
