You were right from the very beginning, this car was a disaster, but, you are getting it back into shape. Great work as always.
That it has been every inch of the way
I hope the person who owns this car realizes how fortunate he is to have you turn this thing into an actual car. I am sure he will treasure this car forever. To say your knowledge and skills are enviable is quite the understatement. Keep up the fantastic work sir!
Hopefully it will make a good car in the end or it will kill me trying lol
I really feel your frustration at this point, but I admire your patience , your skills and your knowledge. I am hoping the person that did the hankering job is watching your series and is ashamed of himself. God has a place for people like this. Amen
@@paulmatthews3706 I hope they are also there's no reason for how this car was
You are doing an awesome job on the Mustang. Your attention to detail is amazing. Your honesty, work ethic, and kindness is honorable. You are what people hope they get when buying or restoring their dream car.
I appreciate that! I wish more people cared in this industry
YEP,there's a reason they are called "Rustangs" folks!!!
I comment, therefore I am. You publish, therefore I watch. Love your work ethic, more power to you!
Thanks for the visit Paul
You are one really nice guy and do great work, if it is wearing you down then take a break from it for a few days and spend time with the family. Catch up on the paying jobs, the Mustang is a slow time consuming job but you have done the worst of it please don't burn yourself out on it keep doing the great work buddy.
I'll be a lot better once I get past all the surprises it's hiding I found even more that will be on the next video. Wish I could afford a vacation
@@HotRodGuyGarageoh boy re upcoming vid
I really enjoy your progress. Your explanation of removing parts is excellent.
Keep battling on
Glad you like them! And I sure will
Dash parts removal; HRGG has videos of the whole cowl ass'y being replaced, maybe grab those parts of said vid and, paste in so arrows indicating where the wiring harness, etc is installed
Watching your channel is not only educational it is entertaining...and I love Daisy!
Glad you enjoy it!and Daisy says thanks for watching
Yes, you can really hear the frustration and weariness in your voice. Completely understand how you feeling. Keep up the good work and the good fight.
It's rough on one person sometimes
God bless you, sir. I am impressed by your determination to do things right. I was a house painter by trade. I don't know how many times I tried to convince people to always have ceilings painted whenever they had the walls done. The ceilings always looked fine until after the walls were done. Then it took a lot longer to paint the ceilings after the fact. There were times I ate the cost because I couldn't leave the job half done. You are in the same situation 100 times over. Hang in there.
Thank you kindly
I think we all expected you to go all the way, because you have standards. 😃
No sense at just leaving issues
This looks great! It’s refreshing to see the detail work your putting into this car!
I appreciate that!
Looking a lot better, the good thing is your are doing your best to get it done right. Great job you have done so far.
Yes, thanks it's definitely been one giant mess
Getting better everyday! BTW, 65 mustang doesn't have a dome light. It has two courtesy/map lights under the dash. One on the driver's side under the lighter and the other on the passenger side below the glove box.
Makes sense probably why the have red chicken light's mounted to the dash bottom
I feel bad for the guy who bought it, there is a special place in hell for those kind of hacks. I am as guilty as anyone of using "less than appropriate" fixes, or whatever I have access to in order to get a car functioning well enough to get me to work, or get me home- but I damned sure won't sell them that way (or if I do, it is disclosed in excruciating detail). I've said it before, but this kind of car (as it was) moves beyond "buyer beware" and into the realm of "fraud, with intent to do bodily harm"
Absolutely agree with this
I feel worse for the Hot Rod Guy having to fix it!
Hey they tried there best to put it back together with a warn-out no-name adjustable wrench and a rusted-clapped out pair of channel locks. It' was real hard to getter tight, I will say I learn from you how you break things down as a mater of fact and your experience in invaluable that you share with us all.
If this was the best they could do oh boy 😂 , glad your picking up some useful stuff from the videos though
Another great video. You are a master and good teacher. I have learned a lot. Thank you.
Thanks for the visit , see you at the next video
As have I
Glad to hear
Man that car is looking great I can't wait to see you paint it. I see you do use good quality stuff so is should shine like a diamond
I'm hoping it will make him a nice car that will last many years
@@HotRodGuyGarage gotta tell ya I usually watch V.G.G but you caught my attention on this one. Never would have thought that car was that bad at first again great work
Thanks it's definitely been a mess
the head liner bowes in my 67 Fairlane had a different color dot on each bow so you could put the bows back in order from front to rear.
Most do, but most of the time rust or previous hackers take care of that mess
Gotta hand it to you--I'd have trouble going to the shop in the morning knowing this was what was waiting for me. Thx!
Definitely trying at times
You have gone above and beyond with this car. Your patience is admirable, at least on camera? 🙂 What a project this turned out to be for you. The window mechanisms look like a pain in the butt. I would imagine you'll get try and find reproduction or remain for some of the pieces? Probably the dash pieces, too? Anyway, good work ethics on your part. 👍
Meant to say *remanufactured* not remain.
This cars been a definite test of doing what I feel is right, and yeah you can get just about everything for these now I just can't get over how there's not one thing unturned and put back incorrectly
Yeah, whoever did the work before sounds like they didn't know what they were doing at all. Probably lost the bolts for the piece they removed and just used whatever seemed to work, not to mention using their fingers to start the fastener. Geez, I'm sorry you have had to deal with this fiasco.
@HotRodGuyGarage up to and Including a new body; although Dynacord apparently has had some issues with panel fitment etc which could've been almost as labor intensive as this red Mustang to make right
Hang in there, you're gaining on it. I just hope the owner appreciates all your doing and keeps it inside when he isn't driving it.
I admire your honesty, integrity, patience and work ethic. My hat is off to you! Keep up the amazing work. Getting closer to an amazing finish with every video.
I appreciate that! Hopefully it will make a good car in the end
You sure do have a lot of patience! Love your sarcastic remarks! LOL! You're doing a great job! The Mustang is going to be gorgeous. I hope your customer appreciates the amount of work you've put into it.
This car has been the ultimate test of patience that for sure. Hopefully it will make a good car for him in the end
You can buy an interior screw kit for most classic cars on the internet. When I painted all the interior pieces and replaced my headliner in my 56 ford I bought the interior screw kit.
Absolutely and no reason to use whatever was laying around
At least that Mustang is consistent quality from bumper to bumper 😂
Quality was job zero
@@HotRodGuyGarage quality has to be even considered to give it a number. The seller apparently didn't consider it. Sadly.
You've saved an old girl.
Sure trying
The car looks great .It will be a nice car when done!
Thanks, and I think it will be too!
I’ve had several red cars and loved them, but I would not be able to stomach painting this Pony red again, especially since it’s not the original color.
I've been trying to get him to go white lol just for my sanity
The owner is getting a total restoration. Get it back to original specs or as close as possible and enjoy it. Resale red got him once, it would be great in its original colors. But it his car and his $.
@@gn3881 I agree
I commend u Russ keep on keeping on cheers 🥂 😊
Always, thanks for the visit Dave
@@HotRodGuyGarage u are verry welcome sir cheers 🥂
Hang in there! I know this car has been a royal pain for you. But, you are getting so close to being able to paint and assemble.
It should start going quicker soon
Can’t improve on the previous poster’s comments. The pristine work continues, just brilliant ❤😂🎉
Glad you like them!
You are almost out of the storm and as I said before, you definitely are over the hump. You have turned this piece of junk back into a car again. The guy that owns this car needs to be super thankful for your hard work. Keep pushing sir.
I found one last hoorah of Hackery that will be in the next video so hopefully there isn't anything else unexpected.
This car has been a complete course in body repair. It’s amazing what you will find previous have done to make it look good enough to sell.
It's getting to that point for sure
Your right a nice starter car and use the red one as a donor would have been the way to go, hind sight is 20/20, but a good driver,oh yeah but a safe one
Safe has been the #1 goal
Professional work as always, admire your patience.
Thank you very much!
I think it's amazing that you can buy a kit containing all the correct body hardware and fasteners for one of these cars, packaged and labeled where they go, but some people would rather pick up random hardware store screws or whatever is on their workbench or floor and just guess.
Do you, by any chance, have a room at the shop where you can go and scream into the void off camera? I've loved Mustangs practically since birth but I don't have it in me to even start attempting what you do.
I still don't understand why rig everything up when you can literally get everything from a catalog nowdays for them!
Any chance you could get me in touch with whoever hacked that thing up?
At this point I'm respectful to the current owners wishes on that that could change
The last 'restoration' is likely not the first one in the 60 years this car has been around. A lot of this was 30+ year old body shop hackery. Crank it out quick and blow on a coat of 'resale red'.
I hope the owner is fully appreciative of all the work you have put into this car.
I think he does, we talked about color scheme today
Know your frustrated but very entertaining for us and very informative. Keep up the good work !
Thanks, will do!
...is the owner gonna go back with gold color...or red....good video...little steps ..itll be nice in the end...👍
He is leaning towards red with white stripes, I'd like to see it opposite with white and red stripes
I vote for gold with a black vinyl roof. Keep up the good work!!
It's more then likely going back red but I agree
Never ending surprises
Your not kidding
Guess what? I am in aw of you mechanicl abillity, you have a natural tallentto put straight what these bodgers have tried to do to this vehicle. Once agin your experttse and hounesty is comming through, the owner will be exstatic with the resulting finished Vehicle. I only wish i could have owned or even driven a 65 Mustang, my favorite was the 69/70 Mach 1 Mustang, which i seen in Chester back then, My Dream car.
Thanks for visiting again John, I try my best to make sure what I do is there for the long haul
I rebuilt vent windows on a 72 Chevy Truck. Lot of work. You imagine having that job at the factory installing those rear windows?😂
No joke
Awesome work again. I noticed there's no insulation in the roof. Maybe that's what the towl was for 😂😂
Could be
This car is the "gift that keeps on *giving* "
I wish it's gifts would stop 😆
@@HotRodGuyGarage - Get out in front of it, and with a firm voice say "No ..Stop... bad" Yeahhhh I know. Very likely it wouldn't work on Daisy either 😄
I tried that 😆
What a cluster! But you are doing a good thing!
Sure trying to
I guess after stripping of the red paint on the interior then you will start maybe to put it back together
I sure hope so, the plan is to finish all the body work, test for everything and start spraying paint
Man...the poor guy at the factory who had to assemble vent windows all day.
Absolutely
With all the messed up, hack job done to this car makes me wonder if the person put this much effort to do a hack job or were they way in over their head about how to repair it properly. Either way, your friend got screwed over, run over, beat down, stomped on, and robbed when he purchased this disaster. Til next time, you and Daisy have a great week.
That's a question we may never know, they went deep to halfway do everything one it. And yes he absolutely got robbed on this car
You sir are one patient man and I feel your pain with trying to correct moronic workmanship.
Thanks it's definitely a test of patience
Another excellent video and thanks for posting. A new OE style hood lining for this car from TMI is only $60 and they are remarkably good quality. What were the factory body and trim colors for this car? Wimbledon White exterior with red (or black) interior would be my choice. More power to you, Steve (New Zealand)
Noted! The car was factory gold with vinyl roof and id assume ivy colored interior
This was a perfect example of lipstick on a pig's ear. Does the motor even work properly ?
The motor and trans seems to run fine
Every time you find something it's like 🤨😐😬😮😩!
I'm ready for the surprises to stop 😆 and a spoiler for the next one they haven't yet
Like an onion,layer after layer
Absolutely
Cake, cake has layers. Lol
I actually like the fact you didn’t have it sandblasted. That can create other issues. I have one that was blasted by a previous owner and left to sit. Has surface rust all over the car. Factory panels have some sort of rust protection on them I guess and when they are blasted it takes all that off. I’m sure the guy that owns that car appreciates all the honesty and integrity. I would think he will be happy with the finished product. Is he going back with red or a different color?
The only thing with blasting is it needs to go into a epoxy immediately after it is cleaned out and done on the absolutely dryest day. He is wanting to stick with red but do white Shelby stripes, me personally I'd like to flip those colors
@@HotRodGuyGarage White with red stripes would be more unique. That would be good looking. But can't blame him for wanting to stay with the red. Red, white, and black always look good.
Oh dear, nothing seems to be good on this car. Seems that every part needs tending. At least you have got stuck in and are doing a very good job.
Tell me about it, everything has been messed up in some way or another, hopefully we're near the end of the surprises
The self control not to go off on a rant and 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬 is admirable!
I don't have that kind of control or patience 🤣
Getting closer every week that goes by to get that thing out of the garage.
Thanks, hopefully by Christmas he will have a shiny present under the tree
65 & 66 Mustangs had two footwell courtesy lights. No dome light. Pony interior cars had a light in each door too.
Noted, with this car I question everything
👍
Thanks for the visit
Where the harnesses are concerned, a new set of harnesses for the car would sure beat a fiery ending for all the money he spent...
It's definitely getting a new harness
He said- punch the guy who put it together in the face multiple times lol.
Absolutely at that point most days 😆
If I were the owner of that car, I’d be there helping you.
It would be nice sometimes
It would be a good time to install some dynamat or something similar to the underside of the roof if the owner is interested.
It's going to get something
It sure looks like they gutted the car before doing that red paint. Why they'd go to that much trouble on a shell that was so hacked up just amazes me. You'd expect to see everything masked around (badly) and the old color left alone under the hood, in the trunk. Wonder what it looked like before they "fixed" it? Finding the mud dobber nest under the headliner, I gotta wonder if the car was just a rough shell pulled out of a tree row when they started on it.
There has been a ton of unanswered questions like that from me also, why replace everything so poorly when it was obviously at the point it could had made a great car the first time!
I still think the car may not had been that bad before they hacked everything up
At least the inside if that roof isn't too bad.
Surprisingly so
this car..... I can't believe this freaking car. Whoever did this should be embarrassed and possibly face legal action.
That first statement is what I say to myself everyday and absolutely they should be ashamed
So i have a question....a question ive thought about for a long time while watching all your series on this car. The question is...are you letting the car owner know what he owes you in each stage of this cars repair? " i just tore apart and repaired this item...now you owe me this" and so on and so on?. You have literally rebuilt this entire car from the ground up. The car owner must have much more cash than good sense. Again, i still cant help but going back to my thought of a lawsuit here. The car owner obviously got scammed big time and youve done a great service of documentation of all the problems this car has. Looking forward to the next video. :)
I bill weekly, he is in on the whole process I know what he wants in the car so that's why I'm building him after we went past just fixing the structure. I've done a lot of my own calls at my cost to make him have the nicest car he can afford.
Pandora's Box .The Mustang with a thousand stories
Absolutely
About how many hours do you have in it at this point? This car should have been used as a parts car, but honestly, i dont think it had any decent parts to give up!
You are doing a fantastic job and I'm really enjoying this series.
Thank you.
Roughly 7200 hours to this point
@@HotRodGuyGarage I think you meant to type 720 and not 7200, although I'm sure it probably feels like 7200! I think 7200 would be somewhere around 300 days.
@@stlfomoco I just rough added it's been here 6 months now , there is some weeks I literally work 7 days on it so I've got a lot but I'd have to go back to the beginning and add it up. What he gets billed and is seen is significantly lower then what I've actually got in it
@@HotRodGuyGarage it doesn't matter. It was just for my own curiosity and I'm sure to you it seems like you have 10 times more hours in it than you actually do. It's one of those projects that never ends. Hang in there. You doing a great job and the end result will be worth it.
@@stlfomoco I'm going to do a total cost, loss, labor time video towards the end of its stay
I now truly understand why that Mustang shell should've been cherried out and, the red car being an excellent parts donor; up to and including even dropping a few $ on a new correct wiring harness, proper tailpipes, etc
It would had made a great donor for sure , It definitely going to go together as right as he will let me make it
another question.... that red paint in the interior is not how an early Mustang should be, body color did not carry into the interior. Are you putting it back to how it should be or does the owner like the body color paint inside the car?
It will be going back to a correct color scheme
Wondering how much all this good work will cost the owner ….
@@robertcowie8230 I've slashed my rate, and slash the labor to try to help him out but it still isn't a cheap endeavor
No jewt on the inside of the roof i bet it was noisy an hot I would replace the headliner
Probably couldn't tell due to the metal flapping in the wind 😆
@@HotRodGuyGaragelike shaking a box of bolts. Lol
Absolutely
The owner could have bought a REALLY nice 69 Mach I for what he'll have in the body work and purchase price of a $2500.00 car... it's getting to be in good shape now, but the labor must be horrendous by now
Absolutely possible in reality this car should have went to make other mustangs live and the. microwaves but I guess it wasn't it's time yet, he has saved a ton by me helping him out
Wow what a rip off to the fellow who bought the car based on the bright red paint I hope he is put out of business
The car sadly it's too commom any more for flippers to take advantage of some one just wanting s old nice car
Good on you for all the effort or really complete rebuild of the car
Most people will not know the effort you had to put in to the Mustang
Good on you .
Great work with the time9 and mess you started with
Keep up the nice work
My 1st car was a 65 mustang and they will always hold a special place
It's definitely been a long test of patience. I've never seen a car as hacked up as this one in my 30 years in this industry not one single bolt or one single panel wasn't messed with of messed up in some way! It should make him a decent car he can be proud of
Its kinda amazing how much time those people spent perpetrating this "restoration"
It's been a absolute mess
"repair" screws with #10 thread and #8 head are all over eBay which saves welding up screw holes
Noted it's a mess
It's funny seeing the issues with those stupid clips giving you fits...funny cause they have done the same to me on my 65 pickup. All they had to do was tack the friggin square nut itself to the clip vs they basically snapping together. great for assembly...holy hell to take apart 50 years later. The ignition wiring plug is the same too...and yes i would replace the harness if it's that bad...it looks like most of its tape wrapping is gone anyways.
One thing i honestly would inquire given where the stripped car is at now is see if the owner wants to go with a different color then red...the gold with the white/beige interior is a sharp combo.
One last thing...with all of that terrible potmetal...where was this sucker assembled at ?? It has definitely spent some time around the beach or rustbelt as badly pitted as it all is. It makes you wonder what the original fenders and quarters looked like.
Your attention to detail is absolutely not going unappreciated...anyone with a classic car should be as blessed as the owner is in having you do all of the dirty work.
Hang in there...whats left to pull...front suspension and rear end...I hope that those haven't been screwed with by the hack master.
The clips are horrible when they have been either rusted or messed up in the past, He is wanting to go back red since the seats are red and white. And there is no telling on where it initially came from
I was surprised that the roof was alright with the hood lining out one plus I guess other bits not so I wouldn't be trusting the motor either could run hot leak oil or be low on compression diff will probably wine you just couldn't trust the build your work first class though.
I'm definitely going to check the motor out but the car ran well and didn't smoke or rattle
Almost looks like it would have been harder for the hackers to do things the way they did than to do them correctly. Do you think they knew what they were doing and were just sorry, or were they idiots?
Definitely was done the hard way around
Buy a new headliner for a $150, the one you pulled out looks like the $60 special.
Absolutely spend more time cleaning it then buying a new one
Windows and regulators are AWFUL.... BTW.... since you took all the glass out it is an OUTSTANDING time to replace the rollers... mine were $2 each (late 90s) but they save a LOT of grief later... ALSO... if you know where the guy lives that did this... I can assemble a flatbed full of chain-swinging hillbillies on pretty short notice (most are kin) and it would probably only cost you a couple cases of beer and some gas... BWWAHAHAHHAAAA!
Absolutely it one thing I don't like messing with if I can help it. I may take you up on the offer 😉
After you finish the car and get paid......tell the owner you'll need additional payments for aggravation. 100 dollars a month for the rest of his life.
Id rather see him drive it everyday
If you were doing all of this for yourself , that would be one thing, but to do it for someone else is taking a few years off of your life.
Absolutely, I'm like 10,000 car builder years old by all the work I've done over the years and I definitely feel it 😂
Is he going after the company that sold him this turd of a Mustang
Not sure at this point
Face made for voiceovers 😂. Need a better camera angle.
Been called worse I don't have feelings to hurt 😆
HRGG puts on his 'Daisy' face; so to speak, she has a glare that could curdle milk
i've got a 65 notchback sitting outside in okla, wouldnt have been one tenth this trouble, im glad you stayed with it. btw what you think of the hecho en mexico 302
Absolutely there is tons of great donors shells this car could had lived on as.
