      @@DaysofPainandVictory I'm in the middle of rebuilding the motor in my 01 2500 Suburban, one chewed crank and 2 cracked blocks later I'm finally making headway. Then I can get back to finishing the motor for my Wagoneer.

    Just found your channel ,subscribed,watch ed this video. I swapped a 360 into a 82 cj7 20 years ago. Very reliable engine, I assembled and installed the engine. Used 20w oil for break in. Switched to Mobile 1,ran this for years. Still runs great, good oil pressure, good power. I installed a Quadrajet carb after trying Holley and Edelbrock. Probably the best upgrade, awesome off road, idles great. Once you get it turned its good to go. Two years ago I installed hei distributor, another good upgrade. Live in Michigan and we used to go to the offroad parks, not as much now. I did a frame off restoration about 8 years ago. Wrangler tub, Wagoneer axles, spring over, 36 swampers. Love the AMC, all my buddies said put a Chevy in it, that amc won't last. Lol.

      Thanks for subscribing! That’s interesting about the quadrajet, might need to give it a shot! Every time I hit a big bump this thing dies with the edelbrock, I think the floats bounce too much. Still better than the holley I had on it, the holley couldn’t handle hardly any hills

      I drove it again today, should have the video out Friday, still dealing with some carb tuning. It sounds good, but feels pretty gutless which is kind of a bummer. I've also been driving the Impala all summer so that makes everything else feel slow haha.

      @@DaysofPainandVictory for sure did you put an Edelbrock on that,I had one on my 401 and had it tuned right once but it always ran rich..I got so tired of fiddling with it over the years that I finally put a fitech on her and it has never run better,I will never go back to a carb,looking forward to all the vids and congratulations on the new property.

      @@jeepguy518 thanks! Yeah put an edelbrock on it, I’m gonna mess with the metering rods and springs, I got the on on the impala dialed so I think I can get this to work for now. I’d love to put the Holley super sniper on it some day

      @@DaysofPainandVictory if you plan on sticking with the carb for a bit get the off-road Needle kit for it,I had a 1406 flood on an incline one time and it killed the motor,bad thing it was muddy so I started sliding backwards and since I have power breaks.....well let's just say I was standing on that pedal 😂

    I had a 68 wagoner. I put a 350 Buick in it that I rebuilt on a budget. I did a lot of port work on the heads and an rv cam in it . Even with the cast iron intake and exhaust it ran very strong.

    • @DaysofPainandVictory
      @DaysofPainandVictory  3 года назад

      that vintage motor probably had a lot better compression than the late seventies motors, the Buick 350 in our 77 electra is GUTLESS!!! I think its rated at like 155 hp haha

    Serious question: did not using break in oil, with zinc, wipe out the cam? I’m getting ready to pull the 360 out of my J-20 to replace the cam, and give it a “refresh “ and honestly this is best video I’ve found on budget amc rebuild. Keep up the awesomeness!

      I like it! definitely an improvement from stock but it's still kinda gutless haha. If I ever build another amc, I want to do different heads to bump the compression up a bit, I think it would make a big difference.

    I'm considering rebuilding my 304. Your video has me concerned because you were so careful and still stuff melted down. Why exactly did your rebuild fail?

    • @DaysofPainandVictory
      @DaysofPainandVictory  2 года назад

      Biggest issue is I didn’t use a zinc additive in the oil which is crucial for breaking in a flat tappet cam. Secondly, I may not have gotten everything as clean as I should have, although people have definitely had success in dirtier builds. I would highly recommend having a machine shop tank your block, blow out the oil passages, etc at minimum. That’s what I did the second time, engine is running great, so much fun!
