This is not to question the design at all, I like it. Would there be a reason for or against routing oil from the cooler plate to the thermostatically controlled valve first, and then to the add on filter and cooler, there by preventing cold oil from going through the add on filter until at optimal operating temp? If I understand correctly, it would still be filtered by the factory filter in this scenario. Perhaps it's just not necessary, not enough flow reduction from the 2nd filter to worry about it. Thanks for your work on the EcoDiesel!!
This design had no effect on cold start performance, the spin on filter is the same one that has been used for 40 years. It has its own built in pressure valve. Millions of engines using this filter have been just fine during their cold start.
We no longer offer the full kit. If interested in the oil cooler plate those will still be available. Brandon Jacobsen D & J Diesel Performance and Repair

Are you talking the plate that attaches to the motor with the hose fittings? If so, do you have a suggestion to what external cooler to use?
