I like Andrew Sullivan, and I did enjoy this immensely, but at times I feel that his self-assigned label of conservative is a bit of a stretch. A conservative who's voted left for the past 30 years? Is it possible that he's turned progressive? I wonder if it's possible that he's merely trying to reach out across the aisle and pull right-leaning individuals towards the centre. Which is fine -- and perhaps admirable -- but the 'I'm a conservative so think like me' act may be more of a rhetorical technique than any real description of his actual political allegiances.
This is a fair question, but I do think his Catholicism is what he'd point to, to confirm his conservative social values. He did some great 2 hour + long sit downs with Christopher Hitchens on the CSPAN show Washington Journal. Happened in the other 2000's and are super informative of his values which he still holds now.
