The personification of a tasteful ballad laced with the soft and engaging voice of Gordon Lightfoot, a singer of the first tier who has not succumbed to contemporary tendencies toward noise, indecipherable lyrics and poor delivery. Mr. Lightfoot is a world treasure for those who enjoy true excellence in vocal presentation.
Worlds Fair 1970 - Canada Pavillion = 180 screen surrounded us with the song of Gordon Lightfoot "Softly". I fell in love with Gordon Lightfoot that day and was never so proud to be Canadian half a world away as a 15 yr old.
He came to Britain about that time and I could not believe how magical he was, composer, singer and guitarist,, not even Elvis had his sublime gifts. I am 81 now and have been singing his songs in Manchester pubs for only two years . Of course I can't match him but I try to catch his spirit, and people really like his songs.
.Hey you know ...i have listened to GORDEN FOR YEARS..Sometimes just sitting around the fire place feeling the good music...have a few good memories of his music...
Andy Parker Lightfoot is truly a household name for so many.. always has been and always will be! Such an amazing songwriter-singer of timeless tunes! Thanks for commenting :)
Merci John, les premieres prestations de Gordon étaient sublimes et oui monsieur Dylan le considere toujours comme son écrivain préféré, and something that is not often said is that like the Mcgarrigles he had a big influence on Quebec artists at the time.
Thanks a lot Stephen! Lightfoot is amazing :)) What a career the man has had! Those two songs are gems among gems! There's an amazing vid for the Edmund...

Beautifully done video. It so fitted the song .. one of my favourites. Thank you. I'm sitting here crying. He died about three hours ago.
He remade this in 1975. I put both versions in my Lighfoot playlist. Thanks for uploading!
So many to choose, has to be one of his very best.

I LOVE Gordon Lightfoot (at concerts twice!) Nasty side thought; (after Chornobyl)"softly...we glow...in the dark!"
Gordon Lightfoot and bossa nova are a nice combination.
A sweet song coming from a sweet person
Ah, that one was so, so pretty.
