Hello all, Hope you will enjoy my music channel. I do not believe music from the 60s and 70s is better than today's music. In fact, the age old statements, "They sure don't make music like they used to" or, "today's music is crap" is ridiculous in my opinion. There was "good" and "bad" music back whenever and there will always be "good" and "bad" music in the future. On that note, I believe that people are missing out by not exploring new and "different" material. In addition to making a number of videos which are folk and light rock oriented, I have playlisted music from many different genre and periods from the 60s to present. I find it extremely interesting how musical styles are often related and how music evolves. Thanks, John

Bruce Cockburn: Sunrise On The Mississippi (1994)

Bruce Cockburn's "Sunrise On The Mississippi" was first recorded on his 1994 album, Dart To The Heart. The song was re-released in 2005 on his all instrumental recording, Speechless. The video includes footage of Canada geese that frequent a nearby pond here in Vancouver, BC.. not the Mississippi, but these awesome birds do winter along waterways in the southeast US. Hope you enjoy Cockburn's a...

Bruce Cockburn, Foxglove (1973)
Просмотров 9319 лет назад
Bruce Cockburn released the instrumental "Foxglove" on his 4th studio album, Night Vision, in 1973. The song was re-released on his 2005 all instrumental album, Speechless. The tune has nothing to do with the plant digitalis (foxglove); rather, the title the influential musicianship of Fox Watson who played fiddle tunes on guitar with alternating bass and open tunings to very good effect. The g...

"Beautiful" is the 9th track on Gordon Lightfoot's 8th original album, "Don Quixote". While my video/slideshow might be anything but beautiful, the lady that inspired this effort is indeed a most beautiful soul :)) Thank you for watching and listening... especially you, dear lady :)

A great Oasis tune for a very dear friend. Swallows soaring on high are an awesome sight! Hope you enjoy the video :)) "She Is Love" was released by Oasis on their fifth studio album, Heathen Chemistry in 2002. The song peaked at #2 on the UK Singles Chart. This track is also included on the compilation album, Time Flies (1994-2009). It's likely that Noel Gallagher borrowed sentiments from Khal...
James Taylor: Something In The Way She Moves (1968)
Просмотров 17 тыс.10 лет назад
A wonderful James Taylor song for a wonderful dear friend! Something in the way she moves, or looks my way, or calls my name that seems to leave this troubled world behind. And if I'm feeling down and blue or troubled by some foolish game, she always seems to make me change my mind.. And I feel fine anytime she's around me now, she's around me now almost about all the time. And if I'm well you ...

"Foxglove" was first released in 1973 on Night Vision, Bruce Cockburn's 4th studio album. This version is from Speechless, Cockburn's 2005 all-instrumental album. Cockburn notes that the song was inspired by musician Fox Watson, who "rendered traditional fiddle tunes on guitar in a graceful finger style that seemed to float like the wings of a gull". The video includes footage (as shaky as it i...
Bruce Cockburn: Love Song (1971)

"Love Song" was recorded on Bruce Cockburn's second album, High Winds White Sky, in 1971. The album was remastered and again released in 2003. The video includes photos of tallgrass prairie (and naturalized "prairie" garden) in southern Alberta and Saskatchewan. I focused on wild and cultivated "coneflowers" or "black-eyed" susans (which can be brown, green, orange, red, yellow, etc.). Summer i...

Looking out my bedroom window right now watching cars pass in the distance on Carefree Highway.
In 1971, when I was in grade 4, our teacher taught us this song (perhaps some words were changed) and we performed it at a Kiwanis festival. Now at age 62, a couple of lines popped into my head and I HAD to find the full lyrics; was I surprised it is a Gordon Lightfoot original.
John, I just recorded this song. I'm going to borrow your video if you don't mind. Great job!
Revisiting: Bruce's is a Canadian treasure and so are these incredible historical photos! This video is put together so well! Thanks again! 🙌 Bravo! 🌹
What a wonderful & unique Tenor voice, all his own......literally....and He strumming that exceptionally melodic Gibson 12-string Acoustic..!! It was such an Excellent combination of Melodies & Beautiful music...!!
I’m 64 and I love the song as well. It just gives me this warm fuzzy peaceful feeling.
This song reminds me of my late uncle. Sometime in the early to mid 2010s, I was at my uncle's house for a family get-together and he had this music playing. Sad to say, my uncle passed away in August 2021 of a heart attack. Just the sound of Gordon's voice convinces me my uncle is saying "How's it going, big boy?" next to me. I miss you, Uncle Charlie. Thank you for the memories, Gordon Lightfoot. You rest in peace as well.
Who's listening in 2024? So beautiful. God bless.🙏💕
One of the greatest song ever written
So true my friend. 😊
I was born in 1977. Mom and dad had this album. Listening to it is funny cause it's one of my very 1st memories.
I can remember the first time I heard this song, when it was new: I had just flunked out of college and I was driving to my new job as a railroad track laborer. It was cold and still dark and I was lost in a very small hill town named Universal. Even then I thought it was an uncanny name for a place that was little more than a crossroads with an old roundhouse in the middle of it. Maybe they were thinking of a small universal joint holding everything else together The song came on the radio and I was immediately struck by it, something which hasn't happened too many times in my life. Gordon Lightfoot's songs have a very satisfying grown-upishness about them.
Carefree i-o-way
Carefree Ioway
Girlfriend stayed to death in the wilderness haha
The only way you can really understand this song is if you are Canadian and or you have lived in the far north of Canada for lengthy periods of time. By God's grace I am and have done so. When you spend a really lengthy amount of time distanced from City and immersed in nature you start to flow with the nature and it starts to become a part of you and you start to become a part of it. I know that sounds corny and cliche but by God it's true. Rest in peace Gordon Lightfoot dear friend, proud Canadian and without question one of the greatest musicians of all time. You are sorely sorely missed. Canada was a much better place with you in it. Nevertheless your music will live on through millennia.😢
Read the comments. I was thinking similar things
Superb music video!😅
excellent tune IMHO....
Wrong. Been overruled over who's at fault for grandma's nature....and step uncles blindness. Still disagree. Two days b4 yesterday has preponderance over the end of yesterday. More like hopeless hiway
Carefree Highway, Sundown, and I want to rock & roll all night and party everyday are my three favorite Gordon Lightfoot songs.
It's in Arizona
I heard Gordon Lightfoot and his trio as a teenager, about 1967 or'68, in a small Vancouver club. Such intensity, such a tight band and great guitar bckgrounds, I'd never heard anything like it. R.I.P Gordon and thanks for never giving up your musical principles.
This is the year my mother died and i am a coal miner's daughter he died when i was 3 of black lung and in 74 i decided that i would leave west Virginia so when i got to 16 1977 i did so and this song went with me my driving force. Love you Lightfoot step lightly into heavens band forever missed 😢❤❤
First major breakup of my life at 28 and this song sums the feeling up well
This song came out while I was in school- my formative years- and it was a favorite of mine. I couldn’t wait to graduate high school and leave the town where I grew up and all of its problems behind. Even now, I love to move to a new place every three years or so or take a long road trip to clear my mind. I’m not sure if this song had a huge influence on me or if it was just written for me! 😆 Either way, it has been my theme song.
A song that reminds me of my first love, Linda. It did when I first heard it when it came out and it still does these so many years later. I think it is one of his most beautiful.
I want this at my funeral because it is a reminder that life is fleeting but it goes on….
I have always LOOOVED this song by Gordon !!! So , thank you for this video ,including song and lyrics , John !!😊
Liked him when I was young. Now love his songs the longer I get in the tooth!

Thanks so much for posting that slideshow of photos. That's my youth, driving from Manitoba through to the Rockies on the carefree highway. What a gorgeous land we have. Everyone needs to take time to soak that in.
Commuting on I 80 to San Quentin
Great video and picture collage! And great tune, of course! 😊
This was the first song I heard when I lit out of Utah, as a O.T.R. Trucker. . . And I had a SMILE A MILE WIDE. Left all the heart ache behind in Seattle 2012. A dream came true. 😄
