The switching between the modes is actually affecting your transmission as the transmission is adapting to your power while driving. It learns what shift pressure needs to be applied depending on a few input parameters. When switching the modes, the transmission needs to learn again, and your shift quality varies. So best would be to leave it at a power level. Just FYI.

The Piggyback ECU, on the other hand, is changing the torque, and therefore, the pressure needed to realize the shift times calibrated. That's not a big deal for the transmission as it can learn how much pressure needs to be applied. But that happens over time. When you often switch from the 184 to 240 map and vice versa the transmission needs to adjust every time. Until it's finished your shift quality will be altered.
You have a point, but with BMW in particular it's not that big of a deal, as it has multiple programms re-configed already Normal, Sport, Sport+, so if you have a 2 or 3 additional power-map modes it would be recommended that your drive in Normal the lowest power and in SPort or Sport + the highest power map.
@mrnihad170 The standard maps won't affect the adaption of the transmission as the transmission has its own shift parameters for each of them. The transmission is not aware of the altered engine performance of that Piggyback tune though and therfore always needs to readapt. If you have a proper ECU Tune, the correct torque is still provided on the can and the pressure maps will still fit.
The design of this BMW is just so much more cohererent, balanced and good looking than what they're building now. It's not just you Max, this is better.

5:14 - That's probably not true, 320i (184 PS) is not a de-tuned 330i (252 PS) At least in G20, from what I heard, the 330i features: - lower compression (for higher boost) - different pistons - there is something more, but G20 318i (156 PS) and 320i (184 PS) are similar to each other, while 330i (258 PS) is not. You can get your 320i to around 240-250 PS or so, but 330i can be pushed to 300 PS I guess.
Gotta love the f30 bmw generation, still got the old school beemer feel to it, I might go g21, or I just keep my 320im manual, til we get the future of cars sorted 😅
i got the bmw g30 520i remapped to 260hp not the fastest on the start.. but when im on motorway doing 60 70 mph you press it it goes to 150mph pretty easy and much quicker than any 530d

@@flixchen86 it's from november 2017, 84,200km when I chipped it to ±250hp. The gearbox was also chipped because of the combi-deal. Which also definitely helps. I've put a k&n filter in it and changed the oil to 0w-30 LL4 and cerratec additive. No problems yet at 97,000 km. Edit: it hasn't impacted daily fuel economy either. But flooring it will have it guzzling fuel. In Germany I was cruising at 200kph 3000rpm. Didn't take much effort to take it to 240kph. But I didn't want to push too much with my girlfriend next to me.

It will be very nice if you can make the same stock/tuned comparison with the f30 330i. I have 2018 330i xdrive and i still can't decide whether to tune it or not. But even in stock form I've tested it multiple times and it goes pretty good.... 1/4 mile in 14.0-14.1 sec and 100-200 in 17.0sec...
I have F31 328i xDrive 2013 model and it goes easily up to 250km/h on straightline, with little downhill it goes to the end of tacho with now hesitations This kind of surprised me, becasuse with the tune it should go sort of same?
I have a manual 120i F20 from 2018. Mine is able to get 242 on the speedo, and it hits a wall there because is limited, and that with 184hp, cant imagine when I tuned it being able to get even 300hp.

Bij BMW zaken als achterraampje wat niet meer open kan op de touring modellen, een generiek iDrive touchscreen dashboard, goedkopere materialen etc etc..
Inderdaad. Het is op véél vlakken merkbaar, doorheen het gehele interieur en bij alle nieuwe modellen. Ook zijn er bepaalde zaken optioneel geworden die in de vorige generatie(s) of in de pré-LCI standaard waren. Ik ben best teleurgesteld in de kwaliteit van m'n 2023 G20 LCI, met als veruit het meest irritante punt het Harman Kardon sound system. Ik heb zowel de pré-LCI G20 met HK gehad als nu de LCI G20 met HK en het verschil in geluidskwaliteit, basvolume en totaal volume is gi-gan-tisch. Zozeer, dat ik binnenkort toch even naar de garage ga om te kijken of er iets mis is (ik vrees van niet). Als die-hard muziekliefhebber is dat iets wat me echt énorm stoort. Ik denk dat ik binnen een paar jaar voor m'n volgende wagen, voor het eerst in 25 jaar (om de 3-5 jaar een nieuwe, dus al best wat exemplaren gehad) naar andere merken ga kijken, tenzij BMW zich herpakt

Would you recommend driving a 320D or 320i? Is the gearbox the same ? It seem thats the automatic gearbox is rowing a bit much. Like looong course before changing gear.. I'm looking to buy a S3 Touring but still can't decide what to choose. Diesel consumes less and it's supposed to be used for long travels so it's maybe a best option ?
These F30/F31 320i's can be much faster. Had an JB4 on my F30 320i (one of the early cars with the N20 engine) and did 0-100's in about 6 seconds. Speedlimiter was still there (240 on the counter was about 230 real). Big disadvantage with the JB4 was that the car was very picky on fuel. 98 was a must and ever then it sometimes cut power, 102 was without problem (but expensive and pretty difficult to find). I would prefer a real chiptune with these cars., they get a little more than 330i power out of these (~280hp).
Ik zou geen piggyback doen, maar er gewoon mee naar een goede tuner gaan zoals VanDrie. Dit soort oplossingen zijn niet altijd even vriendelijk voor je motor. En je zou toch wel wat meer dan 240 uit een 2.0T moeten halen toch? K20C2 of zelfs de L15B7 halen meer..
I’m surprised this car has 240 horses and can only hit about 230. I once did 230-235 on the speedo with a 1.5 TSI Allspace Tiguan, with 7 people in it! That actually surprised me to my core. Took it’s sweet time to get there but it did! Considering it only had 150 horses and should be worse in terms of power to weight ratio, especially considering it’s an suv and quite heavy as well. I’m just surprised this BMW can’t do more. I recently also drove a Cupra Formentor2.0 TSI 4x4 And it definitely feels and seems faster then this 320i, despite it only having 190hp. I think that any 4 cylinder combustion engine built by the VW group that you find in normal consumer cars, not performance, arebetter all around then anything 4 cylinder BMW brought on the market and it’s surprising because the M cars they build are the best and just great all rounders.
I had an 330i xdrive F31 from new 2019 to 2022. Tuned the car with bootmod3 stage 1 and xhp stage 3 when the car had run 10000km. At around 60000km the turbo gave up. I changed the turbo and sold it. Never liked the 4 cylinder, boring sound and really bad fuel economy for a 2 liter petrol engine. Should have bought an 340 instead...
I have the 330i Touring, 2L 252 PS, B48 Motor, can it be tuned without risk some engine problems? I would do it, and how many horse power will have extra? Thanks

I got 430i on B48 stage 3, regular high octane fuel, 370+ HP, If I'll be in Germany someday I'd like you to test it. On roads where I live i was running 280, but that actually wasn't maximum that car can handle I believe. I also had a few puls 100-200 and my result was 10.6 seconds.
BMW and VAG have more HP than official numbers. That is something already known. I guess you have 320, not 306. P.S. And let's don't forget the Torque (Nm).
I love your reviews Max, but regarding the new BMW designs, you and many others have blamed us Chinese too much. We don't get a say in what BMW sells to us. We don't get a say in what any luxury brand sells to us. They do what they assume will sell, and in recent years I think BMW has gone in the wrong direction. The younger generation in China likes their gimmicks but these people will gravitate towards domestic EVs or Tesla. People who buy German cars mostly want classy looking vehicles. As a Chinese consumer I am as much disappointed in recent BMWs as anyone and I wouldn't be the only one here in China. So please, blame BMW for not doing proper market research because I think the new 7 series and XM will flop in China big time.

I love that this still has a navi screen that isn't humongous and doesn't block your view on the road, unlike modern cars.
There is an even smaller screen option in this generation, which looks quite bad tbh 😂

I had a F30 320i. Tuned was pushing 270bhp. Was a good bit of fun and the spec i had was lovely!

So it was Stage2 with downpipe around 400-440nM ? Onyl ecu tune for F30, 320i you get 184 > around 250-255hp
But if it was tuned like these Autotop nl guys do, with that 90s style XDD with that uselss box, its like +25-+35hp

I have got the F31 330i with the engine and gearbox tuned. Quite fast for a 4 cilinder and its able to keep up with some electric cars as well

I have same model but 320D chiptuned, but the diesel is for sure faster from 180-240km/h. I see that petrol 320i quite slowing down after 180km/h.

it is not a detuned engine, internally they are different, the compression ratio on 20i is bigger than on 30i

my 320i was 7sec 0-100kmh stock and with tune 4.8sec
i made a tuning for my car. it went from 140hp (145hp real) to 205hp. From 370NM to 470NM real. It's like day and night now. It's a rocket.

Install DP, Xhp and MHD stage 2 and it will be a lot faster.
From 184 to +300hp is really not smart for long term

I think that any 4 cylinder combustion engine built by the VW group that you find in normal consumer cars, not performance, arebetter all around then anything 4 cylinder BMW brought on the market and it’s surprising because the M cars they build are the best and just great all rounders.

I had an 330i xdrive F31 from new 2019 to 2022. Tuned the car with bootmod3 stage 1 and xhp stage 3 when the car had run 10000km. At around 60000km the turbo gave up. I changed the turbo and sold it. Never liked the 4 cylinder, boring sound and really bad fuel economy for a 2 liter petrol engine. Should have bought an 340 instead...

I got 430i on B48 stage 3, regular high octane fuel, 370+ HP, If I'll be in Germany someday I'd like you to test it.
On roads where I live i was running 280, but that actually wasn't maximum that car can handle I believe.
I also had a few puls 100-200 and my result was 10.6 seconds.

Engine is mostly the same, but compression ratio in 330i is lower (for higher boost), pistons are different.

@@johanwetterwik32 The G20 uses a revised version of B48 engine, it produces +6 PS and +50 Nm (258 PS, 400 Nm).
Why you guys test drives these petrol normal cars, when we get some diesel? From older Mercedes, or new E400D, E450D etc....

320 diesel is got more torque.
@@RAMANOFFICIAL1 Torque will help if you are acceleratin between 2000 rpm and 3000 rmp...after that the kw are important

Not a great performance for 240bhp. My 435ix stock 306bhp does the 100-200 in about 14sec and this car around 25sec, so a huge difference.
4cyl vs 6cyl obviously.
BMW and VAG have more HP than official numbers. That is something already known. I guess you have 320, not 306.
P.S. And let's don't forget the Torque (Nm).
435i should have the last gen N55 with 320hp stock - I had the M235i and on a dyno with only a downpipe and no tune it did 330 whp.

I love your reviews Max, but regarding the new BMW designs, you and many others have blamed us Chinese too much. We don't get a say in what BMW sells to us. We don't get a say in what any luxury brand sells to us. They do what they assume will sell, and in recent years I think BMW has gone in the wrong direction. The younger generation in China likes their gimmicks but these people will gravitate towards domestic EVs or Tesla. People who buy German cars mostly want classy looking vehicles. As a Chinese consumer I am as much disappointed in recent BMWs as anyone and I wouldn't be the only one here in China. So please, blame BMW for not doing proper market research because I think the new 7 series and XM will flop in China big time.
