No matter how great the M3 is, it's aggressiveness isn't something I'd want on the daily, either this or an Alpina B3 touring are perfectly balanced between performance and usability!
Used to feel like that too but now i think the M3 pulls off the look. Because it’s a sedan, It looks much more proportional and it’s lines just manage to make the grill work. The M3 touring on the other hand is just perfection.
These grilles have to grow on you, its like BMW make the rear nice and the front tacky when it makes no sense. Like Bentley & Rolls Royce, the front are nice and the rear are ugly, one day they will work it out hopefully.
its not that bad if you dont need to have a registration plate in the middle of it, but most places require you to have it, still prefer the old ones tho regardless
I love my M340i, such a beast of a care. I've got Stage 2 as well, it sounds awesome, the B58 is one of the best engines, it's fast as hell but also comfortabel on a road trip
Most people forget that the M3 isnt just about more power and styling. They did major chassis adjustemnts etc. for the rear end etc. to get the same performance as the sedan.
Got mine in the UK last month (Saloon), bloody great car. I was always against BMWs, everyone I know always put me off them - decided to test drive this bad boy and bought it 3 days later lol
I can see they used the same interior-designer like most other manufactures - I think he`s called Mr. All-Dark? Thats very progressive, forewardthinking and uplifting ;-)

Great video! I see the car is wearing the M performance 795M 20" wheels, which are the same wheels that my UK M340i xdrive came with when i bought it back in 2020. Interested to know what tyres the car wears. Mine came with Pirelli PZ4 run flat * BMW homologated tyres (225/35/20 front / 255/30/20 in the back). I'm asking as BMW in the UK suggests that only star mark approved tyres should be used on xdrive models, other wise if any issues were to arrise with the 4wheel drive system or the transfer box would not be covered under warranty. I was thinking of changing the pirelli's with Michilin PS4s non run flats at the same dimensions but i cant find a star marked BMW PS4s at these sizes. I would appreciate any insight on the matter.
In the Netherlands the main difference between the M3 and M340i is the price.. The M3 is +/- 56K euro more expensive.. Baseprice M340i xdrive Touring 92K euro, M3 Touring 148K euro.. Big part of that is tax.. The Dutch government takes a lot of money from you when you buy a new car with high fuel consumption.. On the M3 there's close to 60K euro in tax.. On the M340i it's +/- 32K euro in tax.. That's why most people now buy (read: lease) the plugin hybrid models, because on paper very economical so low tax.. Tax on a BMW 330e xdrive touring is "only" 11K euro out of a baseprice of 65K euro (that's almost the same amount you just pay in tax for a M3).. As cool as the M3 is, it's not worth more than double the money over a 330e.. Same for the M340i, also not worth the extra 30K euro.. The 330e can also be tuned to close to 400HP and 700Nm, so in the Netherlands is kind of a nobrainer.. Thx to our (CO2 based) tax-system.. Buying on the second hand market is a different story though.. I would always go for a M340i over a 4-cilinder hybrid like the 330e, as prices are much closer.. Lots of initial depreciation on the M340i and M3's.. Another reason why not to buy them new in the Netherlands..
Just because of the M3 Touring horrible front grille I would go for the M340i and tune it just like this one. You got a better looking and sounding car, a Beast58 engine and you save a lot of money. What else ?
You can get 2-3 year older Bmw m5 f90 for the same price as m340i. The only reason I would go for m340i is if I need touring. Every other day, m5 is better value.
Max 2..you make a lot of sense.. understand the hype around the M3..but value money with upgrades is a no brainer.. front end of new generation BMWs are a huge design error..designed for Far East market I believe.. another great review..keep up the great content
I am stock M40i , but the gear box is NOT slow , I am sorry . you have another gear box programming , but how long do you think you keep that car healthy ?
@AutoTopnl So you claim, that ecu tuning is finally possible, i mean drivers are unlocked? I own M340i Tourin LCI from 7 months, and as I was told by my tuner there is still no option for that. It would be fantastic, as I have the same plans :-) ECU remap plus downpipe and intake :-)
Great to have a gearbox that changes so fast but I’m not convinced that gearbox will last long. BMW could have built that box but for mass production decided……… maybe not !
I don't know why I do prefer the M340i/M340d. I mean, I am definately not able to handle M3, especially RWD one. So probably, the one that I would prefer would touring M340i. I don't like the fact that BMW artificially limit the M3 touring, to make it more expensive. On the other hand, you have 374 hp M340i, which without must of a hustle can reach 500 hp and it will cost you about twice less than M3. The M3 G80 is something about 120,000 USD (starting) and the M340i is something line 60,000 USD.
Shit in my country I have only "plug in" option of m340i But this one from video I think is better than touring and for the difference in price we can do some after-market fixes and we have perfect car
if you had experience with several m340i, maybe you know is it common that charged icon which should be appearing on fuel consumption disappear? i have 21 model and was having it and after one of the visit in service, i stopped seeing it.
Depends on the mapper. A good mapper will do multiple dyno runs, and monitor everything from timing, fuelling, intake temp, etc, and every engine is slightly different, so a custom tune can get the absolute best out of one particular engine, while still keeping everything safe. My own M140i made 335bhp standard, then 411bhp/573nm with a custom tune, then 455bhp/634nm with a 200 cell cat. A map 'bought' from bootmod3 or similar is just a general map which will be ok for most cars, but not as good as an individual map tweaked to perfection by a good custom tuner.
For me, it's the ability to pull out the chip when I go to the dealer for service to keep my warranty in place. Popped it out for my 50k service and put it right back in as soon as I got home. Been loving my Racechip the last couple months. Best $700 you could spend on your B58.

340i touring with a tune and maybe exhaust if needed, is literally the Perfect vehicle
Alpina has one. The B3 with 495 horsepower. 0-100 in 3.7 sec 302km/u topspeed.
You not gonna 0-60 it every single time you stop lool anything under 6 seconds is plenty
