Goodbye Yellow Brick Road was nominated for best album but lost out to Stevie Wonder's Compositions. GYBR is a greatest hits album without actually being a greatest hits album with some of the best songs in rock history. Funeral For A Friend/Love Lies Bleeding, Candle in the Wind, Bennie and the Jets, Goodbye Yellow Brick Road, Grey Seal, Saturday Night's Alright For Fighting, and so many more. It's amazing that it didn't win the Grammy for Best Album. And one of the amazing parts is how quickly he and Bernie Taupin wrote it. Truly a music genius.
Elton John has ALWAYS been one of my FAVORITE musicians ever since I was a kid. It's VERY hard to believe that he's been doing music since the early 70s. He's had such a successful career. Some of my favorite songs by him were the ones that were released from "The Lion King" and his Christmas songs. Others were the ones from the early 80s. I wish him ALL THE BEST AND A GREAT RETIREMENT!! Thanks for the WONDERFUL music Elton!! I wish you ALL THE BEST!!
Elton and Bernie´s songs means more to me than I can ever explain. I went to all his four concerts when he performed live in Denmark, starting in early 1980s. If I should mention some of my favourite songs it would be. "Daniel" - "Sorry seems to be the hardest word" - " Your song" - "I don´t wanna go on like that" - "I´m still standing".
brendalg4 Indeed, it's very sad as time keeps going on, what people have enjoyed for generations are starting to die out, the modern era began in 1945 and 70 years later people we've known for so long are starting to die out, the 2010s are unprecedented. That's the sad part of the concept of time.
Elton and Bernie are the best musical duo in the history of music, togheter they wrote some of the most beautiful lyrics and music of our time!!Long Live Sir Elton.Hope to see you live one more time.
Wow. I’m so glad he gives America recognition. So often lately, America gets trashed, but I’m glad to know people like Elton can appreciate that America has seen the birth of many dreams.
Your legacy will still live on in our hearts Sir Elton Hercules John you and your songs 'Candles in the Wind', 'Bernie and the Jets', 'Rocket Man', 'Goodbye Yellow Brick Road', 'Don't go Breaking My Heart' and of course 'Crocodile Rock' have been the best. Best wishes for you and your little boys.
No, he said no more TOURING. He may do a one-off concert in some large city or play two songs at the Grammys or something; you never know. He's just no longer going to be going from state to state and country to country, living in tour buses and hotel rooms for 200+ nights a year.
Omg. Must go see Sir Elton John one last time. He is the ABSOLUTE BEST!! You have brought such joy to SO many of us. Happy 4 u David . I agree spend time with your husband and boys. Your Song is my favorite. 🎟🎶🎵🎼🎹Love u always! 💜🎹😚💙🎼👄
Sir Elton John, I was blessed to be able to see your last concert in San Francisco. Since I'm alive your music has always been it. Can't imagine a life without your music. I hope you know how immensely loved you are in this world and what a difference you've made. Thank you.
Respect to Elton John. ✊ he’s willing to take care of his kids. I’m a Christian, but I’m happy for Elton with his happiness with success and family. I saw his Rocketman movie. 10/10
Every time I hear a classic Elton John song, I immediately think of my middle brother who played Elton's albums just about every day back in the 1970's! Elton is a musical genius for sure.
I saw his last show at Madison Square Garden back on March 6th, and I have never teared up at a performance until that one. I so hope he realizes just how much his music and performances mean to people. If any of you get the chance to see a show (or a few) of this final tour - PLEASE GO! You will not be disappointed! We love you so much, Sir Elton and congratulations on one fabulous career!
I was born in 1960 - so the Beatles were what I grew up listening to, then they broke up which was very sad. Very soon Elton John came on the scene and he was like the new Beatles - his music was fantastic. As a kid my best friend and me would play his albums over and over - Yellow brick road was his white Album - This brilliant musician has brought a lot of joy to my life and millions of his fans - just one of a kind! The most wonderful thing is you can choose any song of his library and travel back into time.
I saw him on June 6th at Leeds Direct Arena, I’m so glad to of seen this icon live before he retires. To those who say the tour has gone on too long I say to them maybe they should think about how Covid hit and we got sent into the pandemic lockdowns, he also was unwell and then he had to recover from a fall on his hip. Give the man a break!
I saw Elton in concert at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles in 1975. Elton was touring in support of Captain Fantastic and the Brown Dirty Cowboy. Great concert!
I was so happy to have been able to be at a concert with him! i hope i can see the last concert in Denmark before he stops ! i started playing piano because of him in feb last year, i have listen to his music every day, i love him so much as a pianist
I hope Sir Elton doesn't stop recording. *Every* performer needs a break from touring to unwind and be with family and friends. But I hope he still continues to record and release new music.
I"d say Indian sunset is the only song that falls into that category. No "I've seen that movie too", no "Tonight" or "Ticking" or "Blues for baby and me" or "My father's gun", etc... !
Glad to hear he's going to continue making music. I'm of that generation , and I never figured on getting old and watching the celebrities of my age drop out of existence, it's kind of troubling in a way because you've grown up w these people, they've always been around, then here and gone, ah life, never know what it's going to throw at you, getting harder all the time.
Wow one of the greatest rock musicians that I grew up listening to and my parents grew up listening to is sadly going to retire and going on his last tour
Nope. Elton was not the biggest one! Elton was the bloody BORING and UGLY ones....he can’t even moved his bloated ARSE on the stage 😂 It would be FREDDIE MERCURY and GEORGE MICHAEL 🥂
Lion King was what introduced me to EJ and I have never turned back. Now I own all his albums from the 70s, a few from the 80s, all from the 90s and onward. He is a living legend and I was so happy he's still going to be making records and it's not his health that is the reason for him retiring.
He looks really good actually. And also the glasses omg i love them, they bring so much memories to how his career was in the 1970`s. His really one of the biggest legends in music, and just to have all the hit albums and singels his had. The concerts will be fantastic I think. :)
Your Song may be a defining song but that first album is a very defining album. In fact, I'd say every album he did between 1970 and 1976 or 1977 is perfect in its own way. No other solo artist, with the exception of Stevie Wonder, has such an impressive body of work in such a short period of time in that period.
he'll do this tour for three years. Then he'll take a year off & be a soccer dad, etc. Then he'll be back on the road because he'll be driving his husband crazy by being home all the time
Don't blame you for wanting to finish in America, the music in UK is amazing, awesome, as it has a lot of variety, I love our music so much, but it changes such a lot, so performers like Elton, Bowie, Beatles, Rolling Stones etc, etc don't get a look in as much as they did when they were younger even though they still have a HUGE following in UK. I would love to be one of the lucky ones to be able to see him in his last tours, but I can always see clips and will always have his music to buy. So to all those fan's lucky enough to go, have fun and it'll be something you will never forget. ✌💞😊
that is so sweet America gave him his start I really hate that I missed the chance of seeing a true legend play piano and belt out those soulful rock ballads please someone on this section tell me how was the concert I know he gave a brilliant show has anyone met him
Maybe. But he then released one classic album after another in the 1970´s. And compared to others his 80´s music was actually good and not that bad. many of his hits from the 80´s still aged pretty well, I think. :)
I agree with you 100% Just put on your turntable ( not a cd ) any Lp from Elton John 1969 - 1974 This is the best music Elton John has ever made. Sure to bring tears to your eyes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I like Elton's early 80s albums, particularly "21 at 33", "The Fox", "Jump up" and "Too low for zero" They are actually very good. But after 1986 things unfortunately went down hill. He then also got problems with his voice, and never fully recovered. I can understand that the Lion King era was financially very successful for Elton, but personally I don't really care for it from a musical perspective.
I'm 27 years old and grew up listening to nothing but classic rock and other music from the 50's to the 80's. I don't listen to rap, country, or basically anything made after Cobain died in 1994 (with the exception of a few great songs that have been made since 1994 in various genres). But because of my young age, it means that I don't get to see the bands that I love play live, either because they have broken up (Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin) or died (The Doors, Nirvana, Janis, Jimi, Canned Heat, etc). For that reason I buy tickets to every single classic rock concert I possibly can. I went to see the Eagles back in 2015 and then Glenn Frey died, bringing an end to the Eagles. I had tickets to see Tom Petty but gave them to my sister...then Tom died and I will NEVER get to see him live. I've seen Genesis back in 2007, Styx, Foreigner, Kansas, The Eagles, Roger Waters (which cost me over $600 per ticket, one for me and one for my dad) and just saw Billy Joel last summer. It was by pure chance that I came across the article in Rolling Stone that announced Sir Elton John was retiring. I literally stumbled across the article the night before tickets went on sale and got my floor seat tickets the next day. I can't wait to see Sir Elton live. I intend to raise my kids on classic rock just like my parents raised me, and I want to be able to make them jealous with all the cool bands I was able to see, because by the time they are old enough to go to a rock concert, every single one of the real rock n rollers will have unfortunately been long dead. It seems like we are reaching a point where we are losing at least two or three of the true rock legends each year. I'm sad to hear the Sir Elton is retiring, but at 71 years old it's not really surprising. I'm just so thrilled that I stumbled across the article announcing his retirement and was able to get great seats. Look forward to seeing you in November Sir Elton John!
No, because the majority of them are terrible. That's part of why I like Billy Joel so much. He has said several times publicly that he stopped making new records after "River of Dreams" in 1993 because he didn't feel like he had anything more to say musically, and because most of the new albums these old rock legends from the 60's and 70's are releasing now are terrible and he honestly believes that he couldn't write songs today that would be anywhere NEAR as good as the songs he wrote back in the 70's and 80's. I respect that level of self-awareness from a musician. Which rock veterans have released great albums since 1994 in your opinion? The only ones I have bought are the Eagles "Long Road Out of Eden" which was okay, not really even good and certainly not great (waaaay too country and they absolutely missed Don Felder's rock guitar), and Tom Petty's "Highway Companion" which was actually pretty solid, although again it doesn't really come CLOSE to competing with his pre-1994 albums (actually pre-1995 because he released Wildflowers in 1994 and that WAS a very good album). And while I haven't bought any of his new albums, I have heard some of Paul McCartney's new songs and I actually liked them, although I don't know which album/albums they were actually from, just that they are post-2000 for sure, some even post-2010. Other than that I can't think of any. AC/DC has released 4 albums since 1994, none of which were even decent IMO. Van Halen (who I never really LOVED as a band) has released 3 albums since 1994, all of which are TERRIBLE. Their latest in particular, 2012's "A Different Kind of Truth" was absolutely HORRENDOUS. The "hit" single from that album (called "Tattoo") was so pathetic and so corny that I can't even listen to it without shuddering in disgust and turning it off. I would love it if these rock legends were still releasing albums that were every bit as great as their classics were. But I think being young, wild, crazy, drug-fueled and sex-crazed rock stars was ABSOLUTELY a HUGE part of their songwriting inspiration. And since they are all now old, with families and are drug-free these days, that inspiration is LONG gone. You can't write badass rock songs about getting the Early Bird Special from Denny's now can you?
It sounds to me like you're just doing what most bitter classic rock fans do: irrationally romanticizing the past, and prejudging a lot of albums based on how new they are and whether they were the first things you heard from a particular band. I also don't understand why so many people under 30 throw Nirvana in with so many older bands with ten times the talent.
Alex S dude there are plenty of great new bands out there.......you really should expand your musical taste a bit. Start with a band called my morning jacket....listen to an album called circuital. It’s really good
Well what were you expecting? Think of how concert tickets cost on average, and realize this is a farewell tour for one of the biggest-selling, living pop stars (second only to Madonna).
kamaboko1 yeah that is the sad thing for people like me who bought his very first song and have continued following through the years. As a carer, I would never be able to pay those prices to see him. Still, I have his albums.
Elton John touched my life ever since I was a little kid. From "Rocket Man " on. 🎼🎸
Me too
It's time for Bernie Taupin to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in the non-performers category.
OttawaNow you are so right!
Agreed.
Couldn't agree more. He's the best.
Yes, why isn't he in there yet?
ABSOLUTELY !!!!!
How in the world does Elton have only 5 Grammy's? That's totally insane.
I was surprised by that too.
Goodbye Yellow Brick Road was nominated for best album but lost out to Stevie Wonder's Compositions. You forgot Jamaica Jerk-off. Best title on the album and one of the highlights.
political correctness ...... Barry Manilow only has 1 ..... (Fanilow here) ..... :/
Fergie has 7! Ughhhhh.

I hope he does some teaching. The man is a living university about the history of modern music.
That is what is the saddest part of the older generation passing on.. the lost wisdom
brendalg4 Indeed, it's very sad as time keeps going on, what people have enjoyed for generations are starting to die out, the modern era began in 1945 and 70 years later people we've known for so long are starting to die out, the 2010s are unprecedented. That's the sad part of the concept of time.
Sandra Nelson good idea. He can warn them off coke.
Mike Brown He stopped that shit a long time ago.
How and why? You're acting as if he's mozart
I just saw him last night in Dallas. Best night of my life. The most magical thing I've ever been a part of. He means everything to me. Such an idol
They would have to pay me to watch ?
Everything he said about his sons warmed my heart to pieces
Elton and Bernie are the best musical duo in the history of music, togheter they wrote some of the most beautiful lyrics and music of our time!!Long Live Sir Elton.Hope to see you live one more time.
And l guess to
Wow. I’m so glad he gives America recognition. So often lately, America gets trashed, but I’m glad to know people like Elton can appreciate that America has seen the birth of many dreams.

Amelia Beckley ... It's candle not candles... And it's Benny not Bernie... I don't even like his music and I know more about it than you.
My first concert was Elton. 10/21/80 at the Seattle Center Coliseum.
No more live performances Elton? I guess thats why they call it the blues
+Benji Martin - Or they call it knowing when it's time to retire because your voice is no longer the same. :(
No, he said no more TOURING. He may do a one-off concert in some large city or play two songs at the Grammys or something; you never know. He's just no longer going to be going from state to state and country to country, living in tour buses and hotel rooms for 200+ nights a year.
@@geezerbill I don't think Elton John lives in your bushes.. I am sure he flies.
Clever 👏👏👏😄
Oh I love that song!! "I guess why they call them blues". I been listening to that song all day😊
I have to see him before it's too late and can't anymore your songs will carry on in my heart and radio speakers I love you Elton John
Simply a VERY good person. Sir Elton shows a lot of empathy for people and I've always admired him.
Thank you Sir Elton John for an amazing catalogue of music!
Legend. I respect his decision.
MynxLynx: I respect him no matter his sexuality. I mean he’s calling quits after 4 decades of touring
Every time I hear a classic Elton John song, I immediately think of my middle brother who played Elton's albums just about every day back in the 1970's! Elton is a musical genius for sure.
elton is such a legend i stg. i’ve always heard ab him but i recently got into him and i love him and his music. he’s crazy talented!!
A very talented man.
You can say that again!
I saw his last show at Madison Square Garden back on March 6th, and I have never teared up at a performance until that one. I saw Sir Elton John in Perth 2019 it was a life's dream, another tick off the bucket list.
I was born in 1960 - so the Beatles were what I grew up listening to, then they broke up which was very sad. Very soon Elton John came on the scene and he was like the new Beatles - his music was fantastic. so much fun watching your concerts elton john.
Nice to see him finding joy in his children since they did come late in his life - good for him!
Good on him ! His gift of music will continue .
Wow, I thought his last concert would have been Albert Hall or Hyde Park. Thank you John for starting and ending in the US.
Not only is Sir Elton John a true legend on earth. He is a truely wonderful human being.♥️
I was so happy to have been able to be at a concert with him! i hope i can see the last concert in Denmark before he stops ! i started playing piano because of him in feb last year, i have listen to his music every day, i love him so much as a pianist
He deserves a break and to enjoy the rest of his life with family. What a run!

SIR ELTON JOHN 🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧
He's so amazing I absolutely love him so much
Love Him forever
You are a phenomenon! Love you Sir Elton!
Just watched “ rocketman “ wow what a story. Respect only one Elton! Very proud!
What a fabulous interview and a truly wonderful gentleman.
I hope Sir Elton doesn't stop recording. *Every* performer needs a break from touring to unwind and be with family and friends. But I hope he still continues to record and release new music.
He goes further with recording cd's, only no more touring!!!
That's good, that he still plans to continue recording. I've been listening to his music since I was a boy in the early 80s.
He will carry on recording and do tv appearances time to time.
That's good news.
I imagine. It takes a long time to get one song perfect enough to be released on to a record, CD, etc.
Elton is one of the artist that u wish will live forever
MY IDOLE I LOVE YOU FOREVER
I hope for this final tour that Elton digs out a few album tracks and “lesser” known singles. The die hards last chance to hear some of these tunes!
Astrosjer my thoughts exactly! I'd love to hear Roy Rogers and Sweet Painted Lady
What he calls his old chestnuts. His setlist will be interesting.
I"d say Indian sunset is the only song that falls into that category. No "I've seen that movie too", no "Tonight" or "Ticking" or "Blues for baby and me" or "My father's gun", etc... !
Elton John as a human being is amazing 💖💗
LEGEND!!! Thank you for inspiring me Sir E🎹🎙🎹
I love Elton John Music alot
I can't wait I'm excited
Your is caught my heart when I watched the movie. What promises to make to a friend.

Absolute legend!!
Truly the greatest artist of all time.
Awesome man!!

Wow one of the greatest rock musicians that I grew up listening to and my parents grew up listening to is sadly going to retire and going on his last tour
INCREDIBLE ARTIST
ELTON JOHN THE BIGGEST QUEEN OF ENGLAND 🇬🇧

Elton I've loved you and your music ever since I was a little boy hope you keep it up and I ain't been little boy and since the early seventies
When he comes to Philippines again Ill go there no matter what!!
He played piano on my favorite song that he didn't sing on. "He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother", which was done by The Hollies.
His albums are genius! The real king of pop!

Love Elton but it's been a real hit and miss with his music since 1980
Maybe. But he then released one classic album after another in the 1970´s. And compared to others his 80´s music was actually good and not that bad. many of his hits from the 80´s still aged pretty well, I think. :)
TELEVISIONARCHIVES. That doesn't mean all his songs of those times sucked, you jerk.
I agree with you 100% Just put on your turntable ( not a cd ) any Lp from Elton John 1969 - 1974 This is the best music Elton John has ever made. Sure to bring tears to your eyes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Do you grandfather in any albums made by Elton and other rock veterans made since 1994?
Hang in there. I'm hoping Techno Hip Hop will fade away and popular music get back to actual music.
It’s really good
There is a mistake, “Candle In The Wind” is 1973 not 1974.
I never want to hear 'tiny dancer' and 'your song' ever again!
Ticket prices are insane. In my town nose bleed are $295.00 and floor seats are $1175.00! Elton, I like your music, but not that much.
Well what were you expecting? Think of how concert tickets cost on average, and realize this is a farewell tour for one of the biggest-selling, living pop stars (second only to Madonna).
Bill M lol, I wouldn't go that far!!
Bill M No. the best living musician.
kamaboko1 yeah that is the sad thing for people like me who bought his very first song and have continued following through the years. As a carer, I would never be able to pay those prices to see him. Still, I have his albums.
kamaboko1 it’s just disgusting greed
