I think the saddest thing about Freddie's death and the same can be said of our current pandemic. Freddie's death JUST preceded the cure.....Many other's who contracted AIDS in 1991 (like Magic Johnson) survived because they found the cocktail in time.....I'm certain they will find a cure or at least a vaccine for COVID-19 but not before many deaths.....

My dad has a friend who worked for an Italian tv channel back then and he went to London for an event. They went to a dinner in a restaurant with his crew one night. Freddie and some of his entourage and friends were there at one table pretty close to them. My dad's friend recognized Freddie, and being a big fan he asked a waiter to deliver a bottle of wine at Freddie's table. When Freddie noticed the bottle was offered, he stood up, went to my dad's friend table and shared it with them. They spoke for a minute and then Freddie asked my dad's friend for his home address. He didn't realize why Freddie asked for it but he wrote it down for him. Then everyone went back to their business. A few months later, 2 tickets for the Wembley '86 concert came in the mail.
    That's how Freddie Mercury was.

I remember watching Queen: Days Of Our Lives documentary, and Roger Taylor was just 300 yards away from Garden Lodge, and Peter Freestone phoned him, and he said, "Don't bother coming, cos he's gone", and that was on the 24th of November, 1991. That statement made me cry. Sir Elton John made me cry, for Freddie Mercury, again, when he said some kind words, about Freddie Mercury, too. Brian May said something similar to Sir Elton John, and that made me cry, again, for Freddie Mercury.

That was Freddie Mercury in a nutshell. He knew he was dying, he knew he wouldn't see Christmas 1991 but he still made sure he bought his friends and family Christmas presents. He also donated a lot of his money to charity. He was a very generous man. I have read various storys too about how he would secretly send familys who were going through financial struggles money without them actually knowing where it came from.

I remember thinking what am I going to do with my life when Queen have walked off stage. I remember when Freddie died I was so heart broken and even today if I am in Company and a song such as Those were the days of our lives I turn it off or change the music I just can not listen to him. I don't mind if I am on my own That day Freddie had 80 thousand people in the palm of his hand one thing for sure is no one in that stadium can say that they were not impressed by Freddie and Queen and no political leader in history has ever really done that. Freddie Mercury transcended gender and sexuality and anyways he was probably more of a man then is possible.

Great interview! Elton is one of the last of the great British artists. David Walliams did himself proud, he never interrupted and so the interview just flowed nicely. Elton was brutally honest in revealing his flaws and as the same with all of us, sometimes it just takes something bad happening to another person, that we look within ourselves and we go on to become better human beings. Thanks for uploading.

Even Elton's words made me cry .. !!!
Freddie was so special, kind, generous and adorable ... !!!
Brian said he never heard Freddie complain about his illness or condition ... !!
Freddie was not a perfect human being ... but he was extraordinary in many ways ... so gifted, so creative ... !!!
The only things he regretted being so close to death was that he was unable to continue writing music.
As he said to Peter Freestone: "I have so much music inside that I can never write ... !!"
Dear Freddie ..., you are a legend
We still love you all ... !!!

I didn't know much about what was going on other than brief bits on the news but I took notice of Ryan because of Elton's involvement with the family. Ryan was a couple years older than I was. His situation humanized HIV/AIDS for me. Before then it was just an abstract thing, it wasn't personalized. I met Jeanne White a couple years after Ryan passed. So much has changed since the HIV epidemic started, we've kind of reached a stalemate with our drug therapies but it's still a serious chronic condition. Hopefully we can reach a point where there are no more new cases in coming years.
We need to focus our efforts on reducing HIV in the black community. I've known far too many black college students become positive here in the Atlanta metro area. They know the risk but they don't feel the risk. Some who have practiced safer sex make one error in judgement. I get it. I do. Condoms don't always feel necessary but trust isn't always well placed. Prep isn't always easy to take either; I know that from experience. I know there are investigative efforts to find other methods of prep.

That Ryan White story was so beautiful. Wish they’d put that in “Rocket Man.” It would have been so poignant vs. him just being burnt out and devastated by John Reid.
I mean, it was a great scene - how he left Madison Square Garden. But a transformative meeting with Ryan White’s family followed by a return to the madness, then culminating in the walkout at MSG would have been incredible.
