I was talking to my buddy the other day who had NO idea that Jerry Reed could play guitar. and not just play guitar, but was one of the best guitar players of all time. he was stunned.

I was a Jerry Reed fan since I was a kid. My dad was a truck driver so you know he took us to see Smokey and the Bandit when it came out. I didn't even know he was a musician until I saw him on Hee Haw. I always get funny looks when I'm in a discussion with people about great guitarists when I mention Jerry Reed but I tell them to really listen to his playing and it can't be denied that he was a great guitarist. I think his comedic nature is the reason his guitar skills get over looked but that's one of the things I like about him, he looks like he's having a blast while performing. RIP Snowman

The most amazing thing to me about Jerry Reid is the song he wrote and played, Guitar Man. I love his music though, recommend listening to the song Amos Moses guitar part is killer! Then you have East Bound and Down from the movie I saw about 8 times at the theater as a 12 year old. When your hot your hot, She got the Gold Mine I got the shaft.

Greg Koch's playing reminds me of Jerry Reid re-incarnated. They both just seem to have a ton of fun doing what they do and it seems completely effortless even when they get complex and their simple stuff seems complex until you break it down. Great job. love your stuff.

Yep. Legend. He and Roy Clark were my earliest guitar heroes and got me playing. Lots of great musicians that aren't entertaining. Lots of great entertainers that aren't musicians. Jerry Reed (Hubbard) was that rare combination of great musician and great entainer. When I'm in Nashville I try to go by and pay my respects to him.

Jerry’s right hand technique was something that influenced my playing. The Glen Campbell show, Hee Haw, Roger Miller, etc were a part of growing up in the 60’s and 70’s for a lot of us. That’s why some of us play guitar, because of the great players and personalities that we saw on television. Jerry was a guy that was confident and cocky while being entirely disarming and entertaining. Chet was obviously the most revered of all the players that were on these shows. A guest appearance from Chet was a big deal for us, and everyone else. Roy Clark was the player that my Dad wanted me to emulate. He played the local clubs in the Baltimore/Washington area. I don’t think my Dad ever saw him live because he didn’t go to bars, but he knew of him somehow. Looking back, what a wonderful thing it was to have the opportunity to see these players every week. A major influence on my entire life. Thank you Dave for showcasing a few of Jerry’s licks. You had to have the entire package to appreciate Jerry. It was his delivery, his attitude, and his sense of humor that made him a star.

Jerry Reed was the real deal for sure and a great guy to boot. A story about him not backing down to Elvis and his boss Colonel Parker about signing away his credits for a song Elvis was doing of Jerry's called, guitar man. Not many people could say no to the King and live to talk about it.

your tone in this instance kinda sucks, sorry. it's flubby and clipped. needs punch. you can't "model" that tone in, you have to play clean and really snap the strings with authority. try say a tiny terror with the gain dialed way back, to like 10 o'clock, with reverb.
    nice CME shirt btw!
