The 2min recording of Jerry Playing The Claw in '67 changed the guitar scene forever.... at least for me when I heard it on the radio the first time. ... WOW. It did for the gut string guitar what Chet's Windy and Warm did for Gretsch. IMO. RIP Mr. Hubbard. Thanks for posting this Brooks. Love the fact you are carrying on the tradition. Chet, Jerry, Buster, and now Thom, and so many others are gone... we miss them all so much. But you give us something to look forward to.
Thanks 李荣凯 leon ! At some point I'll do a lesson on "Just Another Rag" - it will be here in my TrueFire channel when I can get around to it - truefire.com/h2475
Hoss!! Yessir, your "Claw" is the reason I can say I can REALLY Claw now! I love the way you dig in to them low strings in the signature lick... I lost my nails ripping through "breakdown", but when I get 'em back, I'm pulling out the old nylon string to try to make them POP like you do - B.Ro, "YOU GOT IT", & can't wait to see you in November - KEEP IT UP!!! 🤟😀🤟
This video helped me so much. Im finally actually learning to play the song. The correct picking pattern really helped alot. I already had the left hand down from learning it wrongly a few years ago lol. So this definitely helped. Appreciate the in depth video FREE video. Truly doing the lords work my friend 👍🏻
You are a tremendous teacher! I checked your truefire courses and I'll try them. But, I really just want to learn more Jerry songs - Breakdown, Don't Think Twice, 500 Miles, Guitar Man. No one teaches Jerry songs on Truefire, or sells anything like this lesson. Please! Can you offer Jerry song lessons? I'll buy, I bet others will too. Regards and thank you, having great fun and hope to see you play someday.
Hi Bo, I have a channel on TrueFire (different than my courses) it has 400+ video lessons in there and I teach in detail with transcriptions these Reed tunes: "The Claw" ""Fine On My Mind" "Blues Land" "Stump Water" "Funky Junk" "Jiffy Jam" "To Be In Love" "Swarmin" and more! Come check it out, plus there a lot there in terms of developing your fingerstyle techniques. Here is the link - truefire.com/h2475 Thanks, Brooks
T H A N K Y O U ! What a wonderful present is this (a full lesson) for us 'finger pickers' to keep our dreams alive: one day we are able to play a song like this one (ode to Jerry Reed). Brooks, you are a wonderful teacher! (Berklee and your mentors) I like your work very much (on true fire and the work of your friends TE, Gareth Pearson, Joe Robinson etc) and of course the Buster B Jones songs. To keep Buster 'alive' , I try to play his wonderful songs. But it's... hard and it takes years ;-) We always have to "get to work". Buster loved to teach and his dvd's are wonderful, but I dream for that day you are able to make a kind of tribute lessons of Busters work (with all those cameratechniques nowadays). You explain for example about the right hand techniques, but in the tribute songs it comes all together and what Tommy always says: learn songs. We amateur fingerstyle guitar players need people like you and for example Emil Ernebro, not only for their knowledge and learned skills, but we always need guitar heroes to improve ourselves. I always find it striking that the real good ones are very modest people. Brooks, thanks to keep "the dream" alive.
Hey there, Casey. Yes the G# is what he plays on the original recording. Helps to slow it down when listening back. ruclips.net/video/vtmb-m4eG6w/видео.html
Thanks! There is a transcription and performance in my TrueFire channel - going to be adding a breakdown of "Silver Stride" there as well. Thanks for watching! Here is the link to my FINGERSTYLE TOOLBOX channel on TrueFire - truefire.com/h2475
WOW!!! Awesome. I have Rheumatoid Arthritis and my nails are brittle and won’t grow, would I have better luck just using finger tips or plastic finger picks? Thanks so much for posting this video!!!
Thanks for watching and I'm glad you asked! I've got a full video breakdown+ TAB/Notation just like this one for "Stump Water" in my TrueFire channel, here is the link - truefire.com/channels/fingerstyle-toolbox/stump-water/l23240 Maybe someday I'll post it for free here on YT but right now that lesson is accessible only to members/subscribers of my TrueFire channel, the Fingerstyle Toolbox, which is full of dozens of tunes and hundreds of technique videos - more info here: truefire.com/h2475
Hi Gaetano, yes a transcription of this and many other tunes comes with a monthly subscription to my TrueFire channel. truefire.com/h2475 Thanks! Brooks

Thanks for sharing this, you do a great job, I'm going to work on this, let you know my progress 👍
Thank you!
You bet!
Awesome 👍
Can you do Mr. Lucky by Jerry Reed. That's such a cool tune and your the best fingerpicker online.
Very good playing. I notice you play a G# on the E string coming out of the E chord going to the D. I never saw that move when Jerry played it.
Hey there, Casey. Yes the G# is what he plays on the original recording. Helps to slow it down when listening back. ruclips.net/video/vtmb-m4eG6w/видео.html
What's the odds you got a tutorial for Jerry Reed's Hard Times?
Nice one Brooks, any chance you could one of these with Silver Stride? Hope so!

I use the nub of my fingertips, you’ll soon get used to it.
Please could you do a lesson like this on stump water? I'm stumped (excuse the pun).
Great lesson though👍

Is a nylon string guitar easier than a steel string to play?
