Remember its a way of life not something you just try but through time excell at and it becomes your normal routine. When you get discouraged because you hit a plateau don't fret just mix it up a bit and do what works best for you. 16/8 method is a popular fasting method so look it up if you like but its basically this. For 16 hours of the day you don't eat and only give yourself 8 hour window to eat. If you time it right you will be asleep for 8 of those hours so you only go 8 hours awake without food. When you do eat make sure its healthy. Properly proportion your plate. Healthy fats, healthy carbs which should be the least on your plate along with protein which should be the most on your plate. I really appreciate this video. Being an almost 51 years old martial artist and working out hard several times per week, I realize it's the little things we do on a consistent basis that really make the difference. Thank you Sir, for posting this helpful video!
I'm 66 in June. I started doing this about 2 years ago, then got hurt. I was determined to get back to this. Today, I was finally able to do my first. I'll be doing this regularly again. It's SO rewarding to the body! (And watching carbs)
So glad to see an older gentleman in tip top shape, reminds me that as I get older I have no excuse. I either care about how I look and feel or I don't!.....Thank you!

This is the first time I've been here. I'm just 31 and really admire as well as respect how you Uncle keeps your body fit and great knowledge sharing. Like !!!
amazing! i believe this will go well with my agoge diet, i did lose my belly fat using that diet, however i will do this to give it some shape. thanks for the info!
There's no specific exercise that "targets" belly fat. Do ANY cardio, just burn calories. Walk 30 - 60 minutes a day, that's all you need to do. And eat fewer calories.
I'm 53 years old I sprinted for years and weightlifted since I was 44 none of that stuff help with belly fat. What did help is when I started intermittent fasting 2 months ago and with NO EXCERCISE AT ALL I lost all the belly fat that revealed all the muscle tone I accumulated underneath. And I researched and found out that stubborn belly fat is a result of insulin resistance... Not the lack of exercise.
@@milkfluff At the time I did 18hrs fasting to 6hrs eating window Split. Then as my weight came down I moved to 16:8 then 12:12. It's been 3yrs I don't Int-Fast Anymore .. I exercise but not frequently. BUT the 30lbs I lost ,..I NEVER gained it back.

I pulled a hamstring twice. Sprint builds leg/calves as well. My younger brother told me to do some laps around the track to warm up everything up including your heart. Then.....STRETCH!!’ Especially primarily your hams and calves. Then you can sprint. It worked for me
After reading scores of articles and watching HOURS of videos, this is the first time I have truly understood the concept behind a caloric deficit and exactly why/how to apply HiiT to my workout. You look amazing and are an amazing instructor. Thank you!❤
Great Video, Starting in May of this year, I realized I needed to make a change for myself, and they key as you mentioned in the beginning of this video is Caloric Deficit. I have been obese my whole life, and tried every gimmick out there, then I realized it cant be that hard. I figured, that our bodies burn X amount of calories a day, and I needed to make sure I was eating less than that, so I started doing some research. I wanted to lose weight and I found out from several sources that the food you consume (Diet) is 80% of the weight loss mystery. If you burn more calories that you consume then you will lose weight. If you add exercise to that mix, you just enhance your results. I have lost 30 pounds since May of this year. The simple fact is, it is not hard. It is work, but it is not hard. Thanks for the exercise tips, I will try those in my home.
During this time of Sheltering in Place, I've been able to stay consistent, working out at home. I'm 60, and have dropped 13 lbs, incorporating this ab routine with my other forms of exercise, and keeping track of what I'm eating. Thanks so much!
I seriously needed to see this! We're in extended lockdown right now here in Australia, and that's made exercising at home really difficult. Not any more after seeing this! I'm about to go to bed but I've got this video saved for the morning and I plan to hit my abs as hard as I just hit that bell! Thank you, sir!
@@robertalvarez3245 It's a struggle some days but I'm doing ok thanks for asking. Grateful that lockdown is more or less over and I can exercise outside again.
@@time4jesus that’s good to hear. Don’t let the plandemic interfere with your health. Same here, I’ve always been in great shape but here the last year I haven’t been quite as active but after watching this video, that’s it, time to step it up. Take Care and God Bless bro
Man respect.. I’m 41 not in shape anymore And recently I just felt old slow lazy and overweight After watching ur videos really inspired me to start to work out again Because to start is the hardest
Daniel. Took me two years to lose 30 pounds of fat and gain 10 pounds of muscle. Just do some exercises and do them regularly. I had shoulder and knee injuries and used my Total Gym as rehab before moving on to free weights and exercises like this video. Refrain from sugar, stay away from junk food and try to eat healthy and drink lots of water. You will see results in a few short weeks and the new you in the mirror will keep you motivated. Good luck.
Just wanted to add my thanks as well. I am just about to hit 60 - and have been working hard to lose the excess weight around my middle for the last 5 years. Prior to that over several years of sitting in classes at tutoring schools and university to learn Thai - and then spending the next few years writing my first book in Thai - all that sitting around added about 12 kg to my guts and blew me up in the heaviest I had ever weighed. So I started on reducing and have worked it right back down. But still have a little ring of belly fat that has proved really stubborn. And I have been trying to work out what to do next. And I think your exercises - and your great explanation for why they work - are going to fit the bill. Thanks for the tips. Greatly appreciated.
Semper Fi! Thanks Mark, Thank you so much for getting me back on Track, after 10 yrs of Dialysis, Recent Kidney Transplant, 4 Spinal injuries, n losing 130lbs later, Im down to my last 15-20lbs and plateauing, this is by far the Best comeback training. Im a 12 yr Army Vet n gained a ton of weight after getting out. You have given me the motivation to not give up. 30 yrs of Martial Arts, but gave up teaching cuz of my weight. You are truly a blessing to Vets, who are struggling with similar Medical issues n have given up. I am working hard to get to my ideal weight and help motivate others, who are struggling with similar issues. For me this the Best way to do it, cuz we are not gonna stop eating. Just eating healthier. Again Thank you again for being a Great motivator. I am now 66 n counting. My goal is 150! US Army Vet😉🇺🇸🙏🪖
Thank you for this motivational video. In my youth as a soldier we did those same exercises as well as others. Now, however, I am 58 and frankly lazy. You have given me motivation to get back in shape! Thanks my brother.
This guy looks great for his age! I know my personal trainer used to show me how to do mountain climbers by using the workout bench instead of the floor. It really works!
Excellent, honest video. 53 this Nov and have decided to get back to some physical exercise but most channels on YT seem to be aimed at people like my son & daughter who live in the gym. I first learned about Mark a couple of years ago at 54 with I guess would be the precurser to this program "Get Abs After 40" and "Six Pack Abs". I have always been in pretty good shape, somewhat athletically inclined but never had a "ripped" physique. I did the program for a while and actually started developing a solid core, obliques starting to define and I became a believer. Because of changes to my life situation, I didn't continue but saw enough results to that point that I knew - know - once I refocused my mind I would get back to the progress I experienced. I am totally a believer and supporter of Mark McIlyar. Even though he is an alumni of t.u. ;) ;)
God bless you and your HONEST info here. What you say amounts to a life style and changing to it. NOT just dieting and exercising for a given span of time.
Wow. Outstanding. The hell with home gym equipment, here's what I've been looking for. Mark, I appreciate this input. Outstanding video. I have some fitness and activity goals and I think this is key.
I will be adding these to my routine - I am 50 next year, so I want to get ahead of the fat before it gets a chance. Thanks Mark. Subbed to your channel due to this video.
Interval walking is great for 50+ people. I walk as fast as I can for 60 seconds (140 steps), then I brisk walk for 45 seconds. I started doing this for 20 mins, I'm now up to 40 mins and i love it. i have lost 13 lbs and feel great. Enjoy 👍
Thank you so much for such a simple, really encouraging and honest video of how to get in shape for men over 50 like me. I really appreciate your candor and your message of encouragement.
I recommend less talking and cutting your videos to no more than 5 minutes. I don't have time for your videos at this length but would watch them if kept to a shorter viewing period.
I agree with a previous comentater you remind me of the legendary Charles Atlas and that's saying something! The trouble with Atlas RIP was that" know your limitations wasent in his logic" After booking out of a hospital having suffered a heart attack at 79 he refused to consider his limitations! To prove heart attacks are just a minor setback which could be over come by work out he went jogging on the beach and suffered another fatal attack when rushed to hospital! Im 78 and a stage jump around DJ but I know my limits! I think this app. Is brilliant and the exercises top shelf!
@@debbieburns-g2g I am shredded! At 54 there isn't a muscle that you can't see on me. I mix high intensity training with running, cycling and skipping. I fast 18-20 hrs 4 times a week. It took me about four years to get into the shape I'm in.
Hey Mr President you encouraged me to do those exercises. You are very convincing when you puff so heartily after the effort. I can understand that I am 53 myself and also puff after :)
Dear Mark, I find your enthusiasm and go inspirational and infectious. Agree totally with your thoughts. One thing i know that kills people is lack of movement. Sometimes the constant push to incessantly improve can put people off. But any way i love your work and admire the way you push to get people including me going.... 👍
Three very simple exercises of losing fat or burning it. Very intensify and hard to do it but enormous results. This three intensive exercises will be my Bible. Thank you, I've been looking for this.
I do a similar routine to your sprinting on a stationary bike after reading about a study--2 minutes cycling followed by 20 seconds as fast as i can followed by 2 minutes of cycling for a total of nine minutes
Belly fat burning is done in the kitchen 90%, exercise is just 10%. I lost approximately 88% of my body fat just by KETO & walking 10k steps a day - no sit-ups or any ab workout. No need to count macros. I didn't even have to sweat it out. ✌
It depends on where you are at on your fitness journey. For some guys, you hardly have to exercise because there's a lot of weight to lose. For others... getting exercise is just as important as the what you're doing in the kitchen. I hold both to a high standard for weight loss.
@@LiveAnabolic I never did any form of ABS exercise or any other than make sure I walk 4 miles a day that's all it took to to reduce my waist size from 36" down to 29". But 1 thing I made sure is keeping my KETO diet spot-on. That's how I reduced weight & got my lean body. I'm now below my ideal weight by 2 pounds so I'm pretty much lean.
@@LiveAnabolic I'm just sharing my experience because when I was younger I did extreme cardio but never got as lean as I am today just by walking 4 miles daily & KETO. That's the reason I DON'T believe you need to sweat to burn fats. But if you wanna lose weight faster cardio can supplement your diet but is only 10% effective. At least that's how it worked for me, just a total of 10k steps a day is all I did, sometimes I DON'T even reach 10k steps.
@@LiveAnabolic KETO is alot better on burning fats than any form of exercise because it uses all sorts of fat for energy. If you are fat & keto adapted you won't grow hungry anymore until you burn all your body fats. It's normal to get hungry when your body fat is really really low like I am now.
@@LiveAnabolic It's better to emphasize on DIET if you want to help people lose weight or burn fats instead of showing specific workouts & giving your video title as how to burn belly fats. A good video title would be "HOW TO BURN BODY FATS" (no need to place belly as it sounds more like as if we can spot reduce fats in a particular place we desire, again our body decides where it wants to burn fats & when).
Great video, simple and to the point. Does it matter what time of day these exercises are done? I.e. in the morning/start of your day, or evening towards the end of your day? Also, any recommendations on frequency (days per week)? or every day?
Thanks, Mark. The spare tire is an issue for me to I'm integrating these exercises into my daily routine. Also, thanks especially for the last tip on keeping a caloric deficit. I haven't done any caloric measurements before and I know that's part of the issue. I will say that I finally stopped eating those darned potatoe chips, yay!! It's a start. Thanks again for this and your other videos. Much appreciated.

Encouraging. I used to be a cross fitter working out daily for years.... then COVID happened. Gyms closed & I was super busy as a healthcare provider caring for a load of Covid + patients along w my regular patients. 1 year later .... I’m a slob. The gyms haven’t reopened. This is encouraging. Thx.
Well, how you doing? Did you make it back to healthy?
@@rgh622 I wish I could say that I’m back 100% but that ain’t so. Busier than ever due to the lack of physicians. Am back to doing body weight exercises like pull-ups etc. as a result I’m getting a gym in my detached garage
@@caleblauber1441 Yep, garage gym, that's what I did 2 years ago. Best decision I ever made! Now all I have to do is show up 4 mornings a week and magic happens. Down 95 pounds and muscle is showing. Good luck I hope it works for you too!

Great Video !!! I am 60 years old and suffer from a week core , being physically unable to undertake a usual work out routine , this should take care of my constantly weakening core , and will fit right into a daily routine . Thanks!!! I would love to see more !
This will definitely help, Gary! Many more videos like this one on the way for you!

Same here Jay. I just turned 70 last Wednesday. Always been active.

amazing! i believe this will go well with my agoge diet, i did lose my belly fat using that diet, however i will do this to give it some shape. thanks for the info!
There's no specific exercise that "targets" belly fat. Do ANY cardio, just burn calories. Walk 30 - 60 minutes a day, that's all you need to do. And eat fewer calories.
Eat healthy, fat will go away. Your body will appreciate it.

And I researched and found out that stubborn belly fat is a result of insulin resistance... Not the lack of exercise.
What is the intermittent fasting that you do?

I am so glad this video highlights how fit and athletic you can be as you age, you can age gracefully and I will always aim for that.
Thank you sir. I am looking forward to becoming a healthy grandpa one day. My 3 daughters growing up fast and need the energy to keep up with them.
God bless you and your daughters!
Thank you!❤
Love hearing this, Vivien! Thank you for sharing this
Same thing we did in the Marine Corps every morning! Time to start these up again. Go back to what works.
Thank you for helping all us old timers get healthy, you the man👍❤️
During this time of Sheltering in Place, I've been able to stay consistent, working out at home. I'm 60, and have dropped 13 lbs, incorporating this ab routine with my other forms of exercise, and keeping track of what I'm eating. Thanks so much!
Well done Derek
Thanks, Mikey! Trying to be productive and positive in this awfully strange time. ;-)

This is amazing I’m disabled fat and smoke to much. I want to quit the smoking and lose weight this looks like a great plan to start with
Awesome to hear, Ajarn! Keep at it. Consistency is key. We have a lot more videos on the channel that will help yu reach your goals too

Even though he is an alumni of t.u. ;) ;)

Glad you enjoyed the video, Moise! Appreciate your comment, man.
The best simple abdominal video work out EVER
